in 1999 when the war started in Dagestan shinji had to say goodbye to his Wife Asuka Islamović because he was going to join the Islamic Djamaat of Dagestan.

While the fighting between the Wahhabists and Dagestani troops was ongoing on 4 September, the first attack of the Russian apartment bombings occurred; 64 people were killed in a blast that destroyed an apartment building in the nearby city of Buynaksk.

Shinji has witnessed his first deaths in a war and had his first shell shock,after a while of fighting against the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation,this picture of shinji with a friend he made along the war was taken hours before the war ended and his whole squad got wiped out.

After running off back to his village which was nearby;his whole village was massacred,he ran to find asuka and all he could find of her was her lifeless body with a bunch of gun wounds around her…ever since that day shinji has never smiled even once.
