I’ve taken a driving lesson and my instructor showed me a odd method for parallel parking. I want to watch a YouTube video or read step by step instructions, so I can practice it before my next class.
The parallel park starts by backing up straight, I think almost until the driver is parallel to the bumper and then you turn your wheels right, then left, then pull forward.
Does this sound familiar? Does it have a name? Are there any YouTube videos out there that describe it?
(It is an odd method, because it takes you very far back, and it clearly it wouldn’t work for very tight spaces.)
Hi everyone! I drive a 2008 Nissan Altima. I recently had to make an emergency stop at a traffic light. After the light turned green, the cars acceleration was sluggish for about thirty seconds to a minute. Is this normal?
By emergency stop I meant that I think the ABS engaged and you could smell burnt rubber. Thanks!
I’ve noticed some rust starting to form on my truck frame, and I’m worried it might get worse over time. What are the best ways to stop rust from spreading or to prevent it in the first place? Any tried-and-true methods or products you recommend?
Learning to drive and repeated over and over in other areas, I've heard that high beams in fog reduces your ability to see well because the fog reflects more light back at you.
The other day I was driving at night in some decently dense fog and decided to see what the difference was, so I toggled the high beams on and off. To my somewhat surprise, when using the high beams, I could see farther ahead and pick out more detail. While the fog definitely was brighter, I also felt like I could see what was coming better.
Is there a threshold where it has to be insanely thick dense for that not to be true? Everywhere I've looked online seems to say that it always reduces visibility, so I'm confused
I like to give my blinker early when approaching the intersection or few feet’s before my exit off the freeway.
Is it bad?
Hi everyone! I just recently turned 18 last month and I’ve realized I actually have to start learning how to drive, so I can drive myself to college, work, etc. I got my permit in March and I’ve only been behind the wheel once (I know it’s not good). But I have really bad anxiety when I think about driving and driving on the streets sounds horrible to me. But I’m trying to overcome it and get my license. Since my permit expires and I do not want to retake the written test, I was wondering do you guys think I would be able to get it by February/March. Or is that impossible and I should just prepare myself to take my permit test again?
The first time I had to park behind a pick up truck and ended up hitting the curb and failed.
The second time I turned right and there was a school bus with the stop signs on. I kept going like an idiot because all I could think about was the person saying turn right here. I had actually been told to turn left but as I was going up the hill the merge was unclear for me and I ended up on the right lane where you can only turn left on the left lane. The tester told me to turn right because of that and there was the school bus. She didn’t end the test and I managed to 3 point turn and park well although I did get hit with an excessive maneuver.
I’ve done around 15 lessons (45 minutes) over the course of 4 months and I’m still a bit heavy footed with breaking and accelerating at times. I get anxious at intersections and when asked to turn, I’m 100% focused on that, which leads to bad observations. I don’t feel comfortable/confident with the movements of the steering wheel and how much power I’m putting. My parking is not consistent sometimes I can do it other times I can’t. I just can’t measure the shit straight. Even leaving the curb sometimes I forget to signal or I overemphasize checking the mirror and looking over the shoulder.
I do suspect I suffer from ADHD. I’ve had that in my gut for sometime. I don’t know. This is frustrating and I’m burning through cash with the lessons and road car rental.
Any tips?
Today, I was driving in Los Angeles in a dual right-turn lane. I was in the left-most right-turn lane, and a police car was in the right-most right-turn lane next to me.
When the light turned green, I started my turn. A pedestrian was crossing from the opposite side toward me. Once the pedestrian had crossed my lane, I continued driving, thinking it was safe to proceed.
However, the police car pulled me over and said I failed to yield to the pedestrian. I explained that the pedestrian had already crossed my lane, so I believed it was fine to go. The officer responded by asking if I even understood the traffic laws. Since I wasn’t entirely sure about the specific rules, I decided not to argue further.
After I got home, I looked up California’s pedestrian laws. It seems to say drivers must ensure pedestrians can safely cross the crosswalk. In my case, I did yield, didn’t come close to hitting the pedestrian, and there was some distance between us when I proceeded.
This whole situation has left me confused. Do the rules require me to wait until the pedestrian has fully crossed the entire crosswalk, even if they’re no longer in my lane? If so, this wasn’t clear to me, and I’d appreciate any clarification.
Today was first time i drove in the snow, work is 40 min commute, i was driving okay in country roads but when i came to the city i couldnt stop properly, my car was sliding. I was driving at around 30kmph but couldn’t stop in time for red light and ended up sliding in the middle of intersection. My tires and brakes are new. But the brakes were kicking back and felt resistance when I used them when stopping. What should i do, drive in low gear for cities? I drive automatic
Im a new driver, almost 6 months with my probationary. I was driving in my neighborhood to go to school when i see a school bus turning. I didnt see lights (though now i suppose they were in fact on) or the red stop sign paddle flashing or moving. They were turning slow and im going around 20mph because its a neighborhood, and theyre fairly close in front of me. I pass the bus which then made a full turn and i hear them honk. I immediately stopped and when i looked in my mirror to see the bus driver yelling at me and the red stop sign paddle flashing. I stayed stopped till the bus started moving again and drove to school. Freaked out and feel horrible about the whole situation because of the children i seriously did not know they were going to stop right after turning. I will admit through my mirror i gave the bus driver an ugly face but tbh i was and am scared. I didnt know how to react so i lashed out in anger. Which i know is wrong now that ive had time to think. Im ashamed and fucking embarrassed that i was stupid enough to let this happen.
Also, this car is under my moms name, so if i get a ticket or anything it would go to her right? Im clueless about all of this. Whats the penalty for this?
Hello,
I received a speeding ticket (Traffic Infraction) (74 in 55 MPH). This is my first ticket ever and the officer pressed that I plead guilty since I am out of state. Has any pleaded not guilty to the tickets and just paid the fine to close it out?
I called the court clerk and they mentioned if I plead not guilty it will be knocked down to parking ticket and no points would go on my license. Also, they didn't mention if I would have to go to court. Not really sure if I should trust them?
Hoping for some relevant response. Thanks
I'm in Ontario and want to know if I'm coming up on an intersection from a road with 2 unmarked lanes and the street on the other side is one lane, which should be used to go straight? I'm under the impression you use the right one but my friends say you stay in the left so people turning right on the red can go through. Are either one correct?
So my work has a while painted STOP and white line on the roadway. No actual stop sign, just the lettering and line on the asphalt, but its VERY visible. Right beside of this STOP is some parking. EVERYBODY runs that stop, they don't even slow down. It's to the point where if I'm parked there, I wait for any and all traffic to run the stop before I back out, despite that if they -actually- stopped, I'd have plenty time to get out and gone before they took back off. My question is, are these stops still legal? Like if I'm entering or backing out and someone runs the stop and hits me, is it their fault? I was curious being on private property and not the actual roadway. Thanks!
Edit This is in Kentucky, USA at a restaurant. We are the only business in the lot. Also added a comment with a link to a photo for visual reference.
If someone backs in to you going a couple miles an hour (side of the car on the front end) and there is no visible damage, can something still be wrong with the car? If so, what and what do I need to look out for? How would the car drive if something was wrong?
I have been overthinking this for hours. 😭 I have been looking up reviews of the sites I’m able to use to complete a BDIC course.
There are a lot of people saying they don’t receive their certificates, they get locked out of their accounts, have to pay extra etc and it’s really messing with me! I haven’t been able to find a site that doesn’t worry me. I do not want to waste my time, my money or have issues with getting points off of my record.
Please let me know of a good BDIC course that won’t screw me over somehow if you know of any! Located in MI if that’s relevant. TIA
Driving on a three lane highway (all in the same direction)...which lane are you in?
Hi all,
Daily commuter here. I frequently run into the issue of sun shining right into my eyes through the gap shown in the image.
Anyone else have this issue? Is it just my car model?
Any solutions?
Like I don't expect everyone to be perfect and never make a mistake but I'm talking about the people who are willing to put their lives and others lives at risk. Just to attempt to correct their mistake right then and there rather than just accepting they messed up and missed their exit or went the wrong way, and continuing on and correcting it later in a safer way. You can correct your mistake and find different ways to get back to where you need or get to where you're going that don't involve almost killing yourself or others.
I watched a video that talked about correcting understeering in winter driving. It said to stay of the break, stay off the throttle, and unwind the steering wheel to gain traction back. I'm a bit confused about what it means by unwind the steering wheel. What does it mean by this, and does this sound like a good method to correct understeering? For reference I use FWD.
Younger U.S driver here! Too long to read: scare of driving on the interstate after low speed wreck.
I’ve had my license for 4 years now, and now on my 4th vehicle … and struggling to not be scared driving on the interstate My first car I lost in icy conditions, that’s with following all the rules for driving in ice. Ideally I would have not driven but it was a flash ice storm and I had no one to come and get me. My 2nd car broke down on me and the part that broke was discontinued and I couldn’t find it anywhere. My 3rd car I got hit by a red light runner and the dude was uninsured and I didn’t have uninsured motorist coverage. It was beater so cost to fix it was over the price I got it for. Took me almost a year to save up to buy a new vehicle. My 4th car which is a truck, runs fine just has electrical issues and I’ve replaced almost all of the electrical parts minus the wiring. So it is now semi-dependable, I’m just still terrified of driving on the interstate. I do fine on country roads in my hometown and in the surrounding towns (55mph-65mph)
Any tips ? My college is 3hrs away and at the time I enrolled into it, I was not scared of the interstate. I been going to therapy so I have some strategies for my fear, a couple of them though I can’t do driving because I would have to close my eyes. And I now finally have a higher paying job I will start in January so not driving is not an option. I need the job super bad as 7.65 an hour is not cutting it. Anyway I just wondering if anyone else has experience something similar and have tips ? As I feel alone in my fear.
I have been driving for about 1 or 2 months now with most of my experience coming from learning with my dad and a lot of youtube videos on laws, etc. Even took a dummy exam a few times.
So today I was driving and wanted to turn left into the right most lane of the highway from an entry road, so for some reason I thought that if I positioned myself into the right lane it would have been easier to get into that right most lane, so I waited for the light to turn green and when I turned I cut someone off and they honked at me and that’s when I realized that i’ve made a pretty serious and stupid mistake being in the right lane to turn left.
I feel pretty guilty about it considering that at the moment I thought it was a good idea but it was incredibly stupid and dangerous. I could have caused an accident and it would all have been my fault!! But luckily I didn’t…
I’m trying not to beat myself up about it too much but I just can’t stop thinking about what would have happened if the other guy didn’t react quickly.
Should I forbid myself from driving? I really really want to be better and stop making bad decisions.
So this morning my lack of patience got the best of me , I put on my turning signal to illegally pass the school bus on the left. I proceeded to go on the opposite side of the road as I start to pass the bus I see they put their turning signal on to turn left to go down a street.I proceed to honk on my horn the bus is still turning . If I hadn’t pressed on the gas a swerved thru would have hit my back passenger door and taillights. I truly feel bad and my guilty is eating me alive for it . So will I get in any legal trouble. I live in Ny
Edit : THE BUS STOP LIGHTS WERE NOT ON WHEN I PASSED IT
Edit : For everyone that answered my question thank you.i was raised a honest kid and I have always faced the action of my consequences and this time will be no different. I am not proud of what I did and I deeply regret it. So thank you and for those you who dm me privately and called my racist slurs and you hope I die. I wish you nothing but the best and I hope you change your ways.
Anyone else have this issue? I've been learning to drive manual for close to 3 years now. I have a great instructor (he's a little on the strict side, nothing wrong with that, just yells a little too much) and the car is solid (VW T-Roc), but I've noticed a little bit of a trend; not always, but most times that I've maybe gotten less than 7 or 6 hours sleep, maybe I've only just made it to the lesson on time and perhaps it's been a week or more since the last lesson, I tend to drive much better than I anticipated; I'm attentive, I read all the signs in time, maybe only occasionally making the mistake of not reaching the allowed speed as fast as possible. After the lesson ends and I know I've done better than I usually do, I feel great, confident in my abilities and look forward the next lesson.
But the next time I'm behind the wheel, inevitably, I feel confident and I make shameful rookie mistakes; I stay in the left lane for far too long, not switching over to the middle lane when I could, while inching behind a car at an intersection I misread the driver's movements and stop my car on a pedestrian crossing, etc. The lesson ends, my self-esteem is shattered and I'm €40 in the hole.
Has anyone else had this experience? I feel like the more sure of myself I am, the more mistakes I make, the more I'm worried and unsure, the fewer mistakes I make.
My boyfriend has attempted to get his drivers license multiple times and for whatever reason something has to go wrong. This time he didn’t (we think) confirm his appointment. But he has everything ready to go and literally just needs the road test. Has anyone ever taken a same day road test? Or is that even possible? Next possible appointment dates aren’t until the mid-end of the month
just like the title suggests I have mild Intecual disability and I have had this desire now before I tell you there was a time I was probably about 14 if you were to ask me about driving at the time I would tell you no way to much multitasking to much to think about so I got a state Id in the meantime my younger sister gets her learners and eventually her drivers license now mind you well all of the sudden I wanted to start driving so anyway so I studied for the written test and passed the first time I took it then weeks later I finally got a lesson with my dad and he was ok i was nervous as a new driver and anyway so we pratice and then we wouldn’t be Consistent at how often we would practice sometimes we would even change locations to where like there is a lot of light poles like almost everywhere they were trying to get Me to pratice but anyways I did do some drivers Ed Joshuas law clases and behind the wheel instruction with a teacher and I had diffent people the 1st person so we worked on some things and we went onto a small loop that went around a mall And I was pretty good then after that she wanted me to drive back to the driving schedule which I was not ready for I was so scared 😨 did make it back ok but yeah the second person I felt did ok and and We focused on turning which I feel like was at my level and then the 3rd instructor we practiced at a neighborhood now this is when I started to feel comfortable and a little more confident in my driving so it went well then my parents just went on a cycle of pratice then waiting to pratice meanwhile when my sister would ask my parents would ask to drive they would say more yeses to her then to me it just didn’t seem fair in fact recently I was in the car My dad was saying my sister when she is here she needs to drive Some because we want her to make sure her driving skills are up my thoughts ok you talk about driving skills go up yeah what about me its been to long since I’ve praticed but anyway but yes but she got opportunity after opportunity me can I drive oh Jake we just don’t have time or Jake we just aren’t sure driving is right for you and One time they talked about maybe we will reevaluate I ask them I said well when are you going to do that and what are you looking for and they said I don’t know and i love my parents but I just don’t underst anyway so there was a couple of driving situations I will mettion 1 is one of the last times I drove I missjudged a turn where I was about to hit a mailbox I didn’t hit it but it was scary so with all of this in mind I made A list of pros and cons of driving I would love thoughts on how to deal with this desire to drive and thoughts like I want to drive pop up in my head all the time and it drives me crazy advice please

driving still stresses me out everytime i go to leave my house or come home, but how do i calm down?
i’m 20, live in florida, and i’ve had my license for almost 3 months. within these past 3 months i’ve ran probably 3-4 red lights (all accidents). how big of a deal is it? i know it sounds dumb, but im still learning how to drive overall.
For some reason I’m not able to focus and feel overwhelmed when driving at night. I’m not scared whatsoever. I know the road and I know when the road changes. I have no issues with merging or changing lanes.
I was traveling a lot for thanksgiving and this happened twice in the same trip where someone was blocking the left lane so the car that came up behind it just got behind me and started tailgating me like I was the problem. I hate it so much, especially because i would be nice and go around the person in the left lane matching my speed but now they’re tailgating me and being rude for no reason and I don’t feel like being nice anymore.
I do try to keep a consistant speed and at one point I had my cruise set to 75, the person in the left was matching my speed but I was going very slightly faster and the person trying to pass got directly behind me and started tailgating me. Why couldn’t they just keep their distance since I’m being nice and opening the road block ? I get that the person in the left lane is the problem but why tailgate me and take it out on me when I’m doing everything right.
I know I’m not supposed to pass on the right but if the person to the left of me matches my speed and creates a roadblock then I try to go a bit faster so people can get by but I hate being treated like the a-hole when I’m trying to help.
