Account Requirements

  • Your account needs to be 30 days or older AND
  • Your account needs a minimum of 300 Comment karma.

The only exceptions for the account requirements are if you are directly linking to a registered certified non-profit organization. For example, a 501c3 or NGO. Or if the fundraising site shows it's going to a registered/certified charity under the organizer's name.

The following circumventions will result in a ban:

  • Using a karma farming subreddit, such as Karma4You.
  • Unsolicited private messaging to push your campaign.
  • Posting your campaign on someone else's post.

Rules

  1. Posts must be more than just a link to your campaign. Be descriptive! Show evidence . This includes:

  • If this is for your pet, photos of your pet in question, with your username on a handwritten note in the picture.
  • School documentation showing enrollment if you are asking for assistance for school.
  • Redacted bills showing your situation.
  • Or other relevant documentation that can help establish credibility.
  • At minimum, please attach an unobstructed selfie photo of yourself(the submitter) with a handwritten note of your username.
  • Low effort posts that simply say to the effect of, "everything is listed in the GoFundMe" will be removed.
  • Please Flair your posts, once created. If you don't know how, just let the mods know and we'll do it for you.

  • Only 1 campaign per user. We want you have some personal connection to the campaign, and not submit multiples simply because they were in the news.

  • Reposts are allowed once a week. If a repost comes up too early, the newest one(s) will be removed.

  • Acceptable transfer methods for individuals are for crowdfunding sites only, such as GoFundme, YouCaring, etc. Individuals should avoid using crypto, or direct banking aps (like Chase). Paypal Pool campaigns are okay, but not regular Paypal accounts. 501c(3) and NGOs may use whatever method they wish. (Updated 1/27/2021)

  • Don't PM people to make requests. If you receive an unsolicited private message, please let us know!

  • Do not post politically-related campaigns. They're just too divisive.

  • Trolling will not be tolerated and offending users will be banned.

  • Don't bug the mods for an exception to the account requirements. None will be given. If you attempt to circumvent the requirement by karma farming or by commenting on someone else's post, your account will be banned.

  • No posting for other Redditors. No Alts. This is viewed as a circumvention of the requirements and the accounts in question will be banned. (New Oct 22, 2020)

  • Selling is only allowed by 1st parties directly. We do not allow selling by 3rd parties to benefit another organization, as there's no transparency to verify that the announced percentage of sales actually goes to the beneficiary. Only direct sales by the non-profit organization are allowed.

    • For a registered 501c(3) or other certified charity (such as NGO's in other non-US countries), the charity must be listed in a governmental web site for verification.

Please modmail us so that we can flair your post as a registered certified non-profit!

    For Everyone Else

    You must have both

    • Account age of 30 days or older AND
    • Comment karma of 250 or greater.

NOTE: We are specifically looking for COMMENT karma. The karma value you are probably looking at is a COMBINED value, consisting of both Link/Post karma plus Comment karma.

    To view your karma breakdown:

    • Mouse-hover over your username on desktop. This works for both the old and redesigned web site.
    • On the official Reddit app for iOS, view your profile, then tap the karma value shown.
    • On the official Reddit app for Android, you can't. Complain on /r/redditmobile.
    • On the unofficial Reddit App for Android, RIF (Formerly known as Reddit is Fun), your breakdown is listed on your profile screen.

The following circumventions will result in a ban:

    • Using a karma farming subreddit, such as Karma4You, or asking for/complaining about karma in a general sub.
    • Unsolicited private messaging to push your campaign.
    • Posting your campaign on someone else's post.

Comment Karma is directly correlated to how many comments you leave plus/minus any points as people upvote a popular comment or downvote an unpopular comment.

    Credibility, Community, and You

AKA, Why Do We Have Account Requirements for Individuals?

In an effort to make your crowdfunding efforts more successful here on Reddit, some background first:

In many of the gifting and fundraising subs, you'll notice that without a certain amount "karma" and an account that's old enough, you'll garner down votes or worse, your posts and comments get automatically removed.

    Why?

To many Redditors, this place is a community built on activity. The "coin" of the land here is your account, and how much you've contributed to the Reddit community at large reflected in post and comment karma.

As a general rule, Redditors dislike the creation of accounts specifically to fund raise or to make requests. It makes it seem like these people simply treat Reddit as some sort of magical internet wallet, and that doesn't win many friends.

The other reason why new accounts are so disliked is that they're often alternate accounts of established users, in order to hide their activity from people they know. While we do sympathize with those of you who have valid reasons, this privilege is often abused by those who create disposable accounts to scam people for a quick buck.

This trust issue doesn't exist in the same way with certified non-profit groups, as you can look them up online for verification, and at least in the case of 501c(3)s, their spending is transparent due to their required tax filings which are public information.

So if you're new to Reddit, welcome! Spend some time and look around for something that catches your interest and chat it up with others and become part of the community!

However if you're here for the sole reason of making requests in a hurry, please be aware your pleas for help will likely be ignored.

REMEMBER, CREDIBILITY AND COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING!

For this reason, the mods will not post anything on behalf of any user that does not meet account requirements.

    Rules

    1. Posts must be more than just a link to your campaign. Be descriptive! Show evidence . This includes:
      1. If this is for your pet, photos of your pet in question, with your username on a handwritten note in the picture.

Supporting Information Requested for Non-501c(3) and Non-NGO campaigns.

We aren't the government. We aren't a court of law. We definitely don't want you to give out information that could lead to identity theft. However, some campaigns are more successful when they have additional documentation.

    This includes:

    • Pet related requests: Photos of your pet in question, with your username on a handwritten note in the picture. This helps show you actually own the pet in question.
    • Education related requests: Documentation showing enrollment or acceptance if you are asking for assistance for school.
    • Redacted bills showing your situation. In some cases, a donor may prefer to pay a creditor directly on your behalf, so be prepared and find out if that is available to you.
    • If you are sharing a campaign for a registered certified non-profit organization (such as a 501c3 or NGO), you should say so in the post, and it should list that status on the campaign page/web site.
    • Or other relevant documentation that can help establish credibility.

Low effort posts that simply say to the effect of, "everything is listed in the GoFundMe" (or less!) will be removed.

How to Include a Photo or Other Supporting Info Document In Your Post

Because Reddit wasn't initially designed to handle photos when it was created, it has limitations in the implementation of photo support which don't work well for us. So instead we suggest the following:

    1. Upload your photo to Imgur.com or other photo hosting site.
    2. Copy the URL for the photo.
    3. Create a new post or Edit your existing one to include the URL to the photo.

Please make sure to include this, as it is the primary reason why posts that are otherwise fine get removed.

Advice On Making Your Campaign Go Further

Not all crowdfunding campaigns are the same, but here are some suggestions.

    • Make sure your campaign has been shared among your Facebook friends! You might think it's embarrassing, however your friends and family are more likely to care than internet strangers.
    • Show that you've exhausted all the other possibilities. A lot of potential donors don't like to give money when it seems like the requester's first and only solution is to simply throw someone else's money at the problem. Nobody is going to take your word when you literally only say, "but I've done everything!", when the actual reality is probably closer to "I've done everything I can think of", which arguably is NOT everything.
    • Show that there's a plan to use the money wisely. Often people have campaigns for their business ideas, but it doesn't really seem like they thought it all the way through. Tell people what steps you've taken so far, and what you're going to do next.
    • Be open to critics. If there's something that people ask about, you should not be dismissive. Provide more detail. There's a possibility that they know something you don't, or they have something different about their own experience that might be useful to you. If you simply brush off your critics, it shows objectively that you're not doing everything possible.
    • Review your own campaign with the mindset of a potential donor. Ask yourself, "Would I give money to this?" Or get a friend to review it for you.

    Questions?

Please don't hesitate to ask the mods!

... Unless you're trying to ask for an exception to the account requirements.

CAMPAIGN TO PROVIDE RATION BASKETS TO MALNOURISHED YOUNG CANCER PATIENTS. by Cuddles Foundation | Crowdfunding India

I am 14 years old and a Grade 9 student at the Chirec Intl School (CBSE), Hyderabad.

I have undertaken this campaign to support children (from low-income homes) who have cancer and their families with a monthly ration basket. A large percentage of these children are malnourished.

The right nutrition and being healthy is a critical element in the treatment of these children who go through the difficult journey of fighting cancer. Although there are several people and organizations which sponsor the treatment of financially stressed patients, there are very few that help out with an equally important issue - "THEIR FOOD AND NUTRITION".Children from low-incme homes are often malnourished.

Malnourished patients respond poorly to medical interventions such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and/or surgery, with increased episodes of toxicity, interruptions in hospital admissions, and inability to take timely chemotherapy in full doses leading to a poor response to treatment. Overall, malnutrition increases the rate of abandonment of therapy and doubles the risk of death due to cancer.

The cost to impact a child and their family for a entire month is only INR 4500. Kindly support this campaign and lets impact their lives.

Help to cover cataract surgery for both of my grandmothers, the cost of surgery range from 1500$ to 2000$

    Hi

My name is Pierina and I have created this campaign to restore the vision of my grandmothers who are in Venezuela. My two grandmothers, Maria and Berlamina (Mina) are suffering from an advanced cataract disease.

Fortunately it can be operated, but the cost of the operation ranges from $1500 to $2000. Although Venezuela's official currency is the bolivar, the country's economy moves in dollars and the costs of any operation are quite high for me.

A little over a year ago, I launched a campaign and we were able to pay for the surgery for one eye of each one. Thanks to that my grandmothers have been able to partially improve their vision. A few days ago we were informed that for January there will be a new round of operations at a reduced cost, around $750 each operation, so we have put my grandmothers on the list and we have started to try to raise the money.

Our families are to get as much as we can, but due the short time I'm afraid of not getting it on time, and lose the opportunity to do this surgery.

Is tipping the best charitable contribution? Keeps local, minimizes admin fees (ignoring tax issues)

Something I thought of today. As someone who has typically been annoyed by tipping culture, I realized tipping may be the best way to contribute:

    • it goes directly to the workers (hopefully).
    • No admin fees
    • Keeps your contribution (mostly) local
    • You sometimes get to see genuine appreciation, which encourages you to contributions 👍
    • No restrictions on how it’s spent. Use for groceries, gas, whatever

    Thoughts?

Urgent Advice Needed: Are Foil Emergency Blankets Dangerous for Homeless People due to causing overheat?

For the last few years during autumn and winter I have got in the habit of bulk buying foil emergency blankets when they are cheap and handing them out to homeless in my city as I am more able and likely to afford them than I am to have spare money though I do give that as well when I can.

Recently I attempted to give one to an older gentleman who refused on the suggestion that they were dangerous and caused people he knew to overheat to dangerous levels.

Has anyone here had similar problems or heard of others having similar problems, what are the recommendations of anyone who has worked with homeless charities etc? More or less should I stop doing this?

My husband had a heart attack a couple months ago, was in a coma for almost a week , died three times, and when he was able to breathe on his own and his vitals were good, he was given heart surgery. Since than...we have been struggling to make ends meet, especially with all the medical expenses keep piling up, medical insurance, and my husband losing his job. Now I’m stressing out, losing a lot of weight, my hair is falling out, and I've been thinking about things I shouldn’t.

I’ve really been trying, I'm taking all the advice that is being sent my way. I have a GoFundMe, tried donating at the Plasma Center (deferred again), DHS, cleaning houses, food banks, two jobs, etc. Unfortunately, we were told we were overqualified by $25 for any DHS assistance. The food bank, thankfully, still gave us food because we had proof that Jay was let go from his job because the doctor doesn’t approve of him working. So, he was fired because he couldn't do his job no more. The food bank verified this information with his job.

Even though I didn’t want to, I went and got another job. Out of the safety of my house (agonyaphobia), it’s been hard, but I had to suck it up. My doctor gave me another medication that will help me with my anxiety attacks, and it will go into effect within 30 minutes. The store manager has been really understanding and has let me wear my mask when I am working to combat my anxiety. The only letdown is that I wasn’t expecting to be getting only 9 hours a week since I was told we could make more hours at other locations (not true).

Jason has not been looking great and has been fainting while he’s sitting down too. He has been fainting 3-6 times a week now, so we have been in and out of the hospital. We initially assumed his shaking was normal due to the pacemaker's function and were assured by specialists that it was fine. However, it was not. After I decided to record him and show it to his physicians, the shaking worsened to the point where they stated he was having seizures. I feel like one day he's great and the next he's in the hospital for a week. It has been a year and a half, and we are still in the process of acquiring Jason SSDI.

I'm feeling emotional because I'm the mother and wife in this household, and everything is going nuts. I feel like a failure because I've been trying so hard with no results, even after getting a second job.  The medical bills are drowning us, the health insurance went up, our heat isn’t even on, behind on all bills…..like I’m really trying. What else can I do but keep asking for help? I wish, one day, that medical will be free in the United States.

The pacemaker is 1-5 years and we are doing everything we can to make it last. His diet has changed a lot, he’s been alcohol free for 5 years, smoke free for 10 years, and never done drugs. Exercising more with mines and my daughter’s supervision. So, I know he can surpass the timeframe the doctor has given us of six months to a year.

There is a lot of proof on my previous post in this group and on my gofundme page. Please, I’m begging, please help me ..even if it’s just words of encouragements and/or prayers.

How to Attach a Photo to Your Post for Rule 1

    Hello new users!

As we have requirements spelled out in Rule 1 on including some sort of evidence in your posts, we've created this post for those of you who need help with that.

    Rule 1 states:

Posts must be more than just a link to your campaign. Be descriptive! Show evidence!

    This includes:

    * If this is for your pet, photos of your pet in question, with your username on a handwritten note in the picture.

    * School documentation showing enrollment if you are asking for assistance for school.

    * Redacted bills showing your situation.

    * Or other relevant documentation that can help establish credibility.

    * At minimum, please attach an unobstructed selfie photo of yourself(the submitter) with a handwritten note of your username.

    * Low effort posts that simply say to the effect of, "everything is listed in the GoFundMe" will be removed.

Generally these are provided as photos or screencaps. Because Reddit doesn't allow an image upload with text, we generally suggest the following:

    1. Upload the photo(s) to Imgur.com or other image hosting site.
    2. Copy URL or Link to the photo(s)
    3. In the body of your post here, make sure to include the link that you've copied. It usually starts with http:// or https://.

    And that's it!

    Beware of Opportunists!

In times of disaster, it's not uncommon for many good people to try to fundraise for relief efforts, supplies and reconstruction costs. But you should be aware that unless it's someone you personally know and trust, it's also not uncommon for bad people to use the opportunity to make money for themselves.

Before you give, you should ask:

    1. Is the donation link directly to a relief agency or is it to a middleman? There's no easy transparency when it comes to the spending of funds in a crisis, which makes it easier for funds to not reach the people it's intended to help, so by avoiding middlemen, you can reduce this possibility.
    2. Have you checked the background of the relief agency or organization you're considering? Some spend money more effectively than others meaning that less overhead makes for more money being spent on victims vs administration costs.
    3. Is the agency or organization a registered non-profit or NGO? These kinds of entities have strict reporting rules to follow to show how their funds are being spent.
    4. Is the agency or organization providing a receipt? If so, you can often use it for a deduction on taxes for the current year. If not, the agency or organization is likely not a registered non profit.

GoFundMe will show that a campaign is benefiting a non-profit charity organization if it is created using their IRS EIN or charity registration number.

Even Paypal donation accounts will show they're owned by a non-profit charity organization, and generate a receipt.

While not every individual doing fundraising is attempting to defraud you of your money, you can give with more confidence by giving directly to a relief charity of your own choosing via their own web pages.

Husky diagnosed with rare autoimmune disease Immune Mediated Poly-Arthropathy. Medical Bills are over $8300.

    Hello everyone,

My 15 month old husky was recently diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called IMPA (Immune Mediated Poly Arthropathy) IMPA attacks the joints, it took the vets several tests including urinalysis, abdominal ultrasound, multiple blood tests, X-rays and Joint taps to finally come to a conclusion as her symptoms were severe lethargy, high fever, limping and lameness. This has costs us up to $8300 and the bills are still climbing. IMPA takes at least 4-10 months of treatment, and even then Juni may be on medication for the rest of her life. Please, anything helps.

    Hi r/Charity 👋,

I am developing an app that allows you to donate to your favourite charity whilst doing your everyday shopping, somewhat like "cashback" apps, but with the money going to charity.

When we launch, and after we've set up relationships with charities, we'd like to put their charity name, description, and logo on our site, so that people are able to select them as the charity to donate to.

Are there any resources/tools online that have all of these logos?

I got a list of ~170,000 from https://charitybase.uk/, but this is without logos (I also emailed about logos, as I couldn't see them on API, but not sure if it's actively maintained).

I've found some websites with a lot of charities on, but not all of them.
We're also ideally just wanting a small, square, icon for each.

    Thanks in advance 🙏

We are reaching out today with heavy hearts, hoping that you will consider supporting our family through a difficult chapter in our lives.

This is a long shot and in all honestly, quite embarrassing as a man brought up in a household where a man should always have everything under control.

Please visit a GoFundMe I've started in regards to my family, happy to provide any evidence needed for anything as long as it's not too invasive and shows personal credentials.

    Thank you all.

New to r/Charity? Read this first!

    Welcome to /r/Charity!

Got a charitable cause you'd like to share! This is the place!

    Requirements

For 501c(3) non-profits (US) or a Non-Governmental Organization (aka NGO outside the US)

    • For a registered 501c(3) or other certified charity (such as NGO's in other non-US countries), the charity must be listed in a governmental web site for verification.
    • A fundraiser that is being handled directly by that charity, such as the American Heart Association's Heartwalk or JDRF's charity walk, where you supply a link on their site for your team/yourself.
    • A crowdfunding site that shows it is directly benefiting a certified charity.

      2. School documentation showing enrollment if you are asking for assistance for school.
      3. Redacted bills showing your situation.
      4. Or other relevant documentation that can help establish credibility.
      5. At minimum, please attach an unobstructed selfie photo of yourself(the submitter) with a handwritten note of your username.
      6. Low effort posts that simply say to the effect of, "everything is listed in the GoFundMe" will be removed.
    2. Please Flair your posts, once created. If you don't know how, just let the mods know and we'll do it for you.
    3. Only 1 campaign per user. We want you have some personal connection to the campaign, and not submit multiples simply because they were in the news.
    4. Reposts are allowed once a week. If a repost comes up too early, the newest one(s) will be removed.
    5. Acceptable transfer methods for individuals are for crowdfunding sites only, such as GoFundme, YouCaring, etc. Individuals should avoid using Paypal, crypto, or direct banking aps (like Chase). 501c(3) and NGOs may use whatever method they wish.
    6. Don't PM people to make requests. If you receive an unsolicited private message, please let us know!
    7. Do not post politically-related campaigns. They're just too divisive.
    8. Trolling will not be tolerated and offending users will be banned.
    9. Don't bug the mods for an exception to the account requirements. None will be given. If you attempt to circumvent the requirement by karma farming or by commenting on someone else's post, your account will be banned.
    10. No posting for other Redditors. No Alts. This is viewed as a circumvention of requirements and both accounts will be banned.
    11. Selling is only allowed by 1st parties directly. We do not allow selling by 3rd parties to benefit another organization, as there's no transparency to verify that the announced percentage of sales actually goes to the beneficiary. Only direct sales by the non-profit organization are allowed.

Please consider helping my cat, Lucky, get emergency dental care. Any little bit will help or even just sharing the link with others. Thank you

    Hello,

My cat's Moon (https://imgur.com/a/3VqPpGl) & Lucky need to get dental care. I created the gofundme a little over a month ago, but have not had much luck. I'm turning here because Lucky's condition has unfortunately worsened and she will probably need immediate dental care.

The day before she had left a little of her food and then yesterday she had left a little more- not a lot but still noticeable. Tonight when I went to refill her bowl she had at least half still in it, which is when it became alarming. I added a little more food and added some broth to catch her interest and see if maybe she was just tired of it (I had it happen with one of my other cats before; she just wanted a new flavor), but she meowed a lot (she usually doesn't) and moved away from the bowl like she was scared and kept meowing. I tried to look at her mouth but she cried like she was in pain. I ran to the store to get some wet food and puree treats to try again. She refused and ran to hide when I put the bowl in front of her (the included picture is of Moon only because Lucky keeps running to hide- I don't know if she's still scared of when I tried to look at her mouth).

I called the vet and I'm going first thing in the morning to have her looked at. To say I'm worried is an understatement.

I know that times are tight for everyone, especially around the holidays. If you can donate even $1 I would truly appreciate it and if not, please consider sharing the gofundme link- https://gofund.me/732f3144

I hope everything made sense; it's late and I'm a ball of stress right now

Icy accident this morning. Anything helps… my car is undrivable and waiting on a tow truck. I’m at a loss…

I'm at a loss for what to do after my car slid over an icy hill this morning. One of my tires came off the axle, and now I'm waiting for a tow truck. Thankfully, I'm okay, but the repair costs are stressing me out. If you could spare even a little, it would mean the world to me. Please like, comment, or share this post so more people can see it and help out. Every bit counts! #gofundme

GoFundMe Campaign: Support Tatum and Philip, a disabled couple, relocating to safer and warmer housing

    https://gofund.me/4ffc6239

HELP A DISABLED COUPLE RELOCATE TO ADEQUATE HOUSING

Tatum Spears is a disability advocate who has been featured in numerous publications for her work as a disabled content creator and intersectional activist. Her fierceness, tenacity and dedication have allowed her to cultivate a community of fellow disabled people who are trying to navigate an unwelcoming world. She and her partner PJ have been together for over four years and have three beautiful kitties-- Flerb, Picky, and Mister. The five of them have been struggling to live safely in a WWII-era duplex that isn't up to code.

The duplex, built in the late 1940s, has multiple hazardous issues. It lacks functional heating apparatuses and air conditioning. The walls are coated with lead paint that is sloughing off due to excess moisture from their clothes dryer, which they use in the winter to keep warm. They also rely on their oven and numerous space heaters, and even then, they struggle to reach an indoor temperature of 70°F in the winter. According to Virginia tenant laws, this is illegal. In the past, their landlord has threatened eviction when confronted about his violation of Tatum and PJ's tenant rights.

I want to make a Website for a charity campaign and help it, which I find more efficient than helping physicly

I wanted to do charity, but I realized that simply cleaning streets or walking dogs won't make that big of an impact.

This is why I suggest another way of charity.

I'm ready to make and host an informational website for a charity campaign if it doesn't have one (for free of course) so it's money can be used directly for charity.

Here I'm looking for an organization that is ready to accept my help and discuss it.

If you are a person who is/has contact with the leader of a charity organisation dm me

We need help keeping our vehicle. My husband & I lost our jobs & have had no luck so far. We do Amazon & DoorDash but if we lose the car, we won't be able to do that to make anything either.

Our vehicle was repossessed a few months back & we were able to get help from a family member to get it back. However, we lost our jobs shortly after & now we are in danger of it being taken again. As I mentioned, we currently are doing AmazonFlex & DoorDash to make what we can for groceries but if it gets repossessed then we won't be able to make any money at all. I am not sure where else to turn but to ask for help as we have been trying to find full time jobs for weeks now but have had no luck so far. I am also in school to get my nail tech license, as well, so hopefully I will be able to start working at a salon soon! I was offered a position as a substitute teacher too but even if I started that today I won't get paid anything until Jan 15th because of the pay schedule & the holiday break. We haven't been able to pay out bills or buy any christmas presents for any of our family. I have included a screenshot of the email they recently sent me about the past due payments but I can offer additional proof if needed. There is currently a total of $2136 that is owed but even if I can pay half of it, that would buy me a good amount of time before repossession would be on the table. We have applied for what assistance we can but have not heard anything back yet for any of it. I am not sure if there is a rule regarding how to communicate but feel free to comment or message me (if allowed) if you are able to help. And as I said, I can log into the website & should be able to see further proof there of the amount owed, due dates, etc. Thank you for taking the time to read this & thank you in advance to anyone who is able to help.

We do not allow selling by 3rd parties to benefit another organization, as there's no transparency to verify that the announced percentage of sales actually goes to the beneficiary. Only direct sales by the non-profit organization are allowed.

In dire straits due to a chronic back injury which has made my health plummet, any help is greatly appreciated

Hello, I suffered a chronic back injury in 2022, went through everything you could think of to help fix it and initially it was healed but this October it came back a million times worse as they found out I have multiple pinched nerves in my back which in turn has caused my right knee to my foot to go entirely numb 24/7. My current situation is quite dire as I have no money to survive on due to having to wait for doctors to approve my leave and then wait even longer to get paid and get injections or surgery depending on insurance approval. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please don't feel pressured to donate, everyone has their own struggles in life, God bless. https://gofund.me/7c490b35
