bad grades and rigor>uchi??

here is my application exactly as admissions officers will see it:

Background: medium sized CT public high school just outside of new york city. middle to high income area. 26 AP courses but you can only take them in 11th/12th. honors and ap classes are weighted the same, and we don’t have A+s. freshmen “honors” courses are actually accelerated, and unweighted. gpa is on a 4.5 scale. no class rank, but >4% of students in grade are above a 4.2.

personal info: im cis female, mid eastern and european, and discussed mid east tensions in application. im autistic, which impacted my academic performance as i was only diagnosed over halfway through high school.

STATS: 3.83 gpa (and by far my biggest weakness on entire application). entirely due to my freshmen year gpa when i took accelerated classes and got B+s at a “regular level” weight. my history course was also taught like an honors class junior year because i was taking AP Lang and they send that cohort to a different “regular” US history. however im actually very proud of my gpa because i did it without tutoring (extremely common around here) and solely through grit. not that that deserves a medal, more so i feel great that i earned the As and A minuses that i DID receive. (i also put that in my application) SAT: 1510 (780 ENG, 730 MATH) 3 Ap Exams: AP Lang- 5, APES- 5, AP Spanish lang -4 (dns)

Honors courses taken: Acc geometry (grade 9) Acc english (grade 9) Honors biology (grade 9) Honors band (2 years) Honors english (grade 10) Honors history (grade 10) Honors spanish (grade 10) APES (grade 11) Ap English (grade 11 and grad e 12) AP Spanish (grade 11 and grade 12) Ap law and gov (grade 12) Honors physics (grade 12)

Awards:

  1. William and mary leadership award
  2. National merit commended scholar
  3. Regional band on flute
  4. Seal of biliteracy (spanish)
  5. “Rookie of the year” (band)

Extracurriculars: 1 out of 2 students from the public school system selected to serve on towns board of ed (will not disclose more for privacy reasons)

Held 11 supporting/ leading roles in school theater (did this year round)

Cofounded cultural student union and lead the cohort for my own ethnicity

Wrote a book of poems (120 pages) in 6 months

Eng tutor to students at my school, edited for and was published in school literary magazine

Self taught on flute and was invited to prestigious ensembles in school and in competition

Volunteer tutor non english speaking student

Unpaid social media marketing internship for local brand, did graphic design for clubs

Job as a swim instructor

Took care of sibling and household (working parents)

Essays (commonapp):

My personal statement discussed my life before and after my autism diagnosis. My whole life I’d been coached to stop “stimming” (physical outbursts of joy), so I opened by describing one of those vignettes, then moved in to getting the diagnosis and feeling a wave of overwhelm. Folks did not want me taking a heavy courseload post-diagnosis to allow for us to process and promote better growth. With this spare pocket, I decided to write my book of poetry trying to make sense of the world around me. I gained confidence and found a voice. Then, my teacher commended my test performance, and the stims involuntarily returned (end scene).

Additional info: This just delves into me wanting to use my middle eastern identity to help bridge the gap between unrest on college campuses and civility. Then I talked about doing my education independently and how that was empowering.

Letters of rec: Env science teacher who I discussed my strong intensions in the field with and who commended my grit and test performance Teacher who had me in honors history and who was the overseer to student union and the autism diagnosis in its first stage

I also had a rec from the chair of the board and hopefully I have made a pleasant enough impact on my local community

I applied ED to uchicago, early action to UNC Chapel Hill, Georgia Tech, UVM, UT Austin, and regular decision to UDub and UCLA. I’m going to apply to Barnard, Dartmouth, Florida, and CU boulder reg. desision. Either Bowdoin or Rice will be my ED-2 depending on which one I have a better chance at.

Forgot to mention: im applying as an env sci or studies major depending on what the school had. I discovered this about myself very late, hence the absence of research.

I know that my application really sucks. I dont need to hear that. I’d just like to hear…where do I have a shot???

Thank you kind reader :))

Can I still get into a top school (MIT, Standford ect or at least BU) with a bad year....

PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT

Here is my grading scale for gpa: 90-100=4 80-89=3 70-79=2 60-69-=0 60<=0 +2 for AP/DC +1 for Honors

Heres a recap of academics and such so far: So, Freshman year was a bit rough I ended with a unweighted gpa of 3.57 and weighted gpa of 4.57. I took a single AP, the only one offered APHG) got a 87 first semester and 95 second and a 5 on the exam. I could not do much clubs due to restrictions I will mention in a moment. some notable things I did do was 6th in state, Tx, for editorial writing, and codded a discord bot with 120k users.

Sophomore year (current) has been weird. I got all As and one in German, levels, for the first half of the semester (1 levels, 3ap, 3honors ) but so far for the second half I'm most likely going to end the semester with: AP: 2 As (APCSP, APSEM), 1 C (APHW) Honor 3 Bs Levels: 1 B (maybe b) [german] Some notablish things ive done this year:

I work at Kumon as a math tutor I started and programed a student lead STEM article site with 20 writers in 12 states with over 30k views I became president of the IPhO club Helped and maintain code for district level technology for admins ( a Digital hall-pass system and site for example)

Background: Neither of my parents went to a college I've been poor my whole life and have 7 siblings so food is not consistent we often just eat cheap noodles or pasta. I had lived in a hotel sense Freshman year and its packed and hard to do much. I have to share a bed with like 4 people, neither of my parents are employed and still up late mostly making it very hard to get consistent sleep or quiet time to study, I had no way to access the internet at home Freshman year, I now have a phone and laptop and my grades have tanked a bit from it. Furthermore, clubs have been hard and I cant do a lot of them because we have to spend gas money to get there or I have to walk 2ish hours home. My dad is a disabled veteran and my mom had two strokes and can not work.

I want to go to MIT, I know it's not easy and my grades don't reflect it, or at least BU. My dad is about to score a job and we should move to a house making sleep and studying easier. The following years I am taking all APs. I have not taken the SAT but I score consistently around 1410 with a perfect math score on practice test. I plan to test out of AP Physics 1 and take two next year and I'm also testing out of AP Precalc. My question is if I got only As (maybe a B or two) and perfect my SAT to around 1560 can I still have a decent shot at MIT and BU and will my past two years ruin my chances and maybe qualify for IPhO. If not what schools should I am for?

  • 9 AP’s, 4 DE, and 6 honors by end of senior year

(4 on Psych & APUSH)

(nursing is my intended major, but based on my EC’s I think i may apply under another major that fits them the best)

ECs: (gonna be very vague so i don’t get doxxed)

  • created a website that depicted how different illnesses would present in different demographics of people (information on this was provided by the help of a medical student who has done research on this

  • created an app at a fairly prestigious university in my state during their summer program that was designed for safety

  • leadership committee at a club in my school focused on maintaining safety regulations. i host educational events to inform the students in my school on impact of certain choices, (not getting too specific) which has caused a measurable reduction in their prevalence in my school by 10%.

  • receptionist for a small business, help the owner schedule meetings & create advertisements on social media, increasing revenue for the shop

  • HOSA, helped run blood drives & volunteered

(other club participation like NHS, etc that i likely won’t include since i don’t hold leadership positions)

letters of recommendation: from 2 AP teachers of mine from 11th grade & my counselor. i’m positive they wrote great things about me, i have a great relationship with my ap teachers.

honors/awards: (pretty weak)

  • an award for excellence for future leaders in the medical field (national award)
  • ap scholar
  • national recognition program (college board)
  • another national recognition program award
  • outstanding achievement in a particular AP class, only student selected out of the grade

essay: about overcoming a fear of public speaking & how doing so has empowered me to lead young girls in my community in creative/artistic & academic endeavors. (includes more elements about my unique community upbringing as well)

Chance Me for Georgetown EA

1440 SAT, 4.0 GPA Unweighted, hardest courses available at a difficult school, applied for Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences

I have OK extracurriculars, Rowing Team Captain (Most involved), Model Congress, Lead role in school newspaper, brand ambassador, assistant coach, peer tutor in advanced subjects, yearbook club

My essays were all solid, I think. I am confident that I wrote a strong essay for their special talent supplement and the 'why Georgetown' essay. My personal statement could have been better, but that could have also been a side effect from re-reading it too many times.

I am confident all of my recommendations are supportive. I have two; one from my U.S. History teacher from 11th grade who I have taken multiple electives with, and one from my chemistry teacher which I took advanced courses with.

I also have gotten "soft support" from the Rowing coach, meaning that he is writing a letter to the admission office in favor of my admission. Still, I am very nervous about the EA decision coming out next week and am unsure about my chances!

A side note, I am the only person in my class applying to Georgetown this year. There also has not been a single person to attend Georgetown in the last four years. (Each class is about 45 people)

Chance me for NYU ED1 and I’ll chance you!

Hi all!! I applied ED1 to NYU, I have been insanely nervous about getting admission, and with results coming out in 6 days, I’ve been more stressed than ever. Do you think I have a shot? I applied for a less popular major, which is Anthropology in Steinhardt, I also did pick 10 alternate majors, which are all “Global Public Health ..” My academics are painfully average but my ECs are very strong, as well as my essay and supplemental!

STATS: 3.55 UWGPA 4.0 WGPA Test Optional Top 20% of Class

EC:

  • over 7.5k+ work hours as a business manager since i was 12 years old, created three 5 star businesses in the DMV, make over $700k yearly, managed a staff line, housing for staff, finances, and community projects.

  • 2 medical internships at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. over 100+ hours of interning/research

  • Started my own food business which holds $13k in inventory weekly and delivered to 3k plus customers WEEKLY.

  • over 300 service hours at my temple and spoke to 500+ people about religion, learned an instrument to play for religious services. spoke to youth and created fundraisers for temple. (i’m a small minority in a small town; sikh).

feelin desperate. chance me for swarthmore, washu, princeton, dartmouth, andcornell

sorry for the mouthful but

  • African American (male) FGLI student who

  • is located in the midwest(specifically missouri if that helps w/anything)

  • is from a smaller sized high school (class grad size is <80)

  • has 4.0 UW GPA, 4.5 weighted

  • is class rank number 1 also

  • my school doesn't offer many AP classes before junior year, but I've taken dual enrollment courses full-time at my local college/uni with a near maximum course rigor (advanced drawing, advanced graphic design, microbiology, calc 2, 2 higher-level sociology and philosophy courses, engineering physics 1 and 2)

ECs include: freelance Design business with roughly $3k in profit per year, small and independent paid tutoring for precalc and physics, primary caretaker of my father and younger siblings during his cancer treatment, participant of a dozen art galleries and exhibits since 9th grade(two of those being hosted by a very prominent local artist), 4x consecutive winner of art city and statewide art contests, primary organizer of annual city-wide art fairs from 9-11th grade,

I didn't submit test scores because I was too busy to study for the school ACT this year (I ended up getting a 31 and chose not to submit it) but I also just took the SAT today which wouldn't help for my swat application though. I got a score of 1540 on practice test 6 if that's any accurate

my essay was about my curiosity, love of physics, the concept of entropy, and how it can't be stopped or reversed in the grand scheme of things. I tied this back to my experiences with helping my dad and our family through his cancer treatment and possible remission with examples of my ECs like the art and tutoring businesses to help keep the family afloat financially (kinda like the occasional "slowing" of entropy). I capped off the essay detailing how doing those things helped me strengthen my love of the arts and physics and how said curiosity still motivates me today (word salad sorry)

I got my two rec letters from my physics teacher, who highlighted my passion for the subject with some really good anecdotes, and my drawing professor, who essentially did the same thing and both teachers mentioned a good portion of my ECs which I think adds credibility? (I also waived my right to view the letters, the teachers just offered fo show me their docs)

but yeah that's it and I'm scared out of my pants for the next week and next 2 months by extension. am I delusional?

What schools should I apply to?

So I’m currently a junior in high school with a 3.2 gpa due to poor performance freshman and sophomore year. But so far i have mostly A’s and I project to have a 3.5 gpa by the end of junior year if I continue to do well. I have a 32 on the act and a 1540 on the sat. I am involved in nhs, stuco, newspaper, archery, some other school clubs, and I have 106 service hours but i don’t have any leadership positions. I want to major in either neuroscience or biology and I really want to go to a good school. What competitive schools would I have a good shot at?

Forgot to mention my course rigor is 1 honors class sophomore year, 2 ap classes junior year, and next year I plan to take 3 ap classes and 1 honors
