JHU ed1, us citizen residing abroad. Chance me

Stats:
o levels: 7A* 4 As, highest in school batch of 1000 students
AS 3 As 1 B
A2 1A* 1 A 1 B 1 C, Mentioned how my grandma who raised me passed away during the week I had 5 exams in a row (that were the biggest portion of my overall grade too), teachers LORs also mentioned this event I think, at least I asked them to.
Gap year as my parents couldn't afford to send 3 children in the same year (I am a triplet)

ECs

450 hours of community service over 4 years, an Outstanding volunteer award by the largest nonprofit in my country. Tested 400+ prisoners in sub-jails for COVID and hepatitis b

Haemophilia welfare center. Helped patients with learning how to self infuse clotting factors after receiving training by professionals. Helped sponsor treatment of a girl with Von willebrand disease. designed and pasted more than 250 flyers promoting financial donations and blood donations.

Future citizens club president, taught basic sign language phrases to students at my school and some teachers over the course of 2 months, this was an attempt to help ameliorate the communication problems deaf people face e.g in expressing their systems to doctors. Furhter exasperated by the low literacy rates in my country

Taught at a school for deaf children for 8 weeks, as a math tutor

Guitar lessons to Foster-care children biweekly over a year. By the end every student could skillfully play atleast 7 songs by artists like Nick Drake, Bob Dylan

Release music on spotify with 1k monthly listeners

Hospital director, illustrating my work at the hospital pharmacy and volunteering in medical camps overall. signed by a health minister 10/10

English teacher in 9th grade, has always been my favorite teacher, while it isnt as effective as a LOR by a uni prof or something, I really like hi writing and I believe he knows me best out of all teachers, 9/10

Other:
proficient in 2 coding languages, Learning Matlab nad how to use it for biology applications

5 online courses:
Pharmacology (harvardx) (certificate)
Cell Biology (MITX) (certificate)

I have made it clear throughout my app that public health at JHU has been my dream for a really long time, writing a seperate personal statemtn specifically for this college. My recommenders have also told me that they mentioned the university name in my LORs.

I like to think I have a chance but im very skeptical.

AM I LIKE COOKED COOKED? (NTU/NUS) Indian applicant

Hey there, a CBSE board student here. My stats -

93.8% (≈94) in grade 12 (94.75 best of 4)

Subjects - Physics/Chemistry/Maths/CS

96.25% in grade 10.

XXXX rank expected in JEE ADV 2025.

I also have some minor extra curriculars like :

  1. being a finalist at a national level debate across India TWICE

  2. scored a merit certificate in the Green Olympiad at national level.

  3. Helped teach some kids at community level, and was Head Boy at my high school.

  4. Good reputation among teachers (can get multiple letters of recommendation easily if need be)

————————————————————————————————

Do I have any chances of getting in NTU/NUS Comp engineering WITH tution grant?

before outright saying no, hear me out—

  1. I have heard of students getting CSc at NTU at 94.2% in Grade 12 cbse but without tution grant. And the NTU website suggests that CE is slightly less sought after than CSc. So it might be not that impossible.
  2. Since boards have gotten tougher relatively, the cohort average was apparently lower in 2024, according to some current students.
  3. I plan on relying on a good JEE ADV rank too which NTU appreciates.

****Can anyone here tell me please what rank in jee adv would strengthen my application enough to be on the safe side?****

thanks everyone pls dont be rude my first post here (i know there might be old posts but they are no longer relevant hence posting with my own stats, thanks)

Trying to cut down my college list

Hey! I'm an international student looking for a full-ride, so I'm applying to a bunch of schools but can't decide which ones to use for my 5 remaining Common App slots. Any suggestions on which ones would be a better choice?

Stats: GPA= N/A | SAT= 1570 | 6 A* 2 As IGCSE | 2A*s 1A A Level | Essays are Pretty mid tbh maybe 8/10 | ECs = Okay-ish Developing country so not many chances for that | EFC = 2K

Schools I'm debating:

  • University of Richmond (Demonstrated need& Richmond Scholars Program)
  • Haverford (Demonstrated need)
  • Rice (Demonstrated need & has merit scholarships)
  • Northwestern (Demonstrated need)
  • Amherst(Demonstrated need) -Little too competitive tbh
  • Hamilton (Demonstrated need)
  • Emory (Demonstrated need & Full ride scholars program)
  • Kenyon
  • Babson
  • Fordham (Presidential Scholarship)
  • Harvey Mudd
  • Macalester (Demonstrated need)
  • Lehigh (Demonstrated need & Full tuition)
  • Wake Forest ( Full ride)
  • University of Rochester (Handler Scholarship)

I do understand that almost all these schools are need-aware, and I know my chances are slim and all that. I would just like to know which ones I have a better chance of getting a full ride to. I don't care much about rank as long as there's good quality of education. I'm more than open to any other suggestions. Thank you for your help.

Chance Me For MIT and UChicago Early Action

Hey, I'm new here, but I wanted to see if I have any realistic chances at getting into my early action schools. I just submitted everything, and I'm already so stressed.

13 AP Classes total, scored a 5 on six and a 4 on two, with five more left to take this year

Class rank: 1/262 (not a super competitive high school, average Arizona public school)

Unweighted GPA: 4.0; Weighted GPA: 5.111 (6 scale at my school)

ACT: 35, Writing 35, Reading 35, Science 36, Math 33; SAT: 1540, English 770, Math 770

Extracurriculars:

- Founded and ran a small business for my esport since Sophomore year-crowdfunded $2,458, bought equipment, negotiated for a venue, hired employees, rank a Twitch stream, managed customers, etc etc (my highlight fs)

- Professional competitor for my esport, ranked 5th in Arizona and 568th worldwide with sponsorships

- Volunteered to help other esports tournaments including the biggest post-pandemic tournament for my game worldwide

- Founded and published a weekly newsletter for my esport in Arizona

- Certified schoolhouse. world SAT prep tutor

- Attended state Hugh O'Brain Youth Leadership Seminar

- Chosen for $1,000 scholarship to the Hugh O'Brain World Leadership Congress-attended that too

(Only got to submit the above to MIT because of the ec limit, the rest were just to UChicago)

- Elected NHS Officer and Student Council Class President

- Founded and led a school esports team as a freshman-placed 9th in the state championships

- Played Varsity Chess and JV Tennis for my school

- Worked as a private beta tester for multiple esports apps

- Studied the Beaver Works Summer Institute MIT coursework

- Led and managed Arizona esports official Discord server and Twitter accounts

Awards: National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist, AP Scholar with Distinction

Identity: Middle eastern descent, Arizona resident, middle class, queer (listed that on MIT application, not UChicago)

Essays:

MIT:

- Why MIT: discussed specific professor articles that inspired me relating to my major and how I wanted to follow in my friend's footsteps to become MIT Smash club president

- Hobbies: talked about my fascination with spreadsheets for fun (yes I'm serious)

- Academic journey: mentioned how I had to take virtual AP classes cause my school didn't offer them and how I applied stats/coding knowledge from school in my business

- Community: detailed how I arranged a $2,000 event for my business by bringing together people from across Arizona

- Challenges: talked about how I overcame an eating disorder after having to seek treatment in a medical facility for a summer and how it helped me learn how to better support my friends

UChicago:

- Why UChicago: mentioned another professor article that inspired me, talked about my interest in helping with their specific esports division, detailed how I loved UChicago from my time spent there at a summer convention

- Supplemental essay: chose an old prompt about my unique language, talked about how my specific texting habits changed a lot over time and how that gave me more chances for self-expression/changed how people saw me

Plan to study statistics or possibly business.

I know there are so many other talented applicants, but I really hope I have a shot! Don't hold back on the honesty though, I'd rather be up front with myself than get my hopes too high
(edit for clarity)

Chance me for NYU and BostonU!

- Attend a public charter school (no aps) with under 100 kids in graduating class

- Valedictorian, 4.0uw/4.5w (honors + dual enrollment)

- 27 ACT but I am applying test optional (thank goodness for that I was so stressed and put off study until the weekend before, I DO NOT recommend doing that.)

-ECS: law firm internship, non-profit organization internship (involved refugees and asylum seekers), model UN, varsity volleyball, volleyball coach, president of NHS, stugo, school newspaper, part-time jobs

-Essays: transferred midway thru junior year due to previous school closing and as a result faced new challenges. I connect that event and the valuable lessons I learned to an analogy about cars (don't wanna be too specific but I have confidence in it + my writing abilities). I also briefly mentioned how the lessons I've learned support my academic interests and career goals.

- LORS: I have a letter from my MUN Teacher who also happens to be my non-profit internship coordinator who knows about my passion for politics + government, so I know it's strong although I am not allowed to read it. Also have LOR from my government teacher who can also attest to my goals. My volleyball coach who has seen my growth as a student and athelete as well. Good relationship with my counselor, she was happy to provide LOR and school report.

-Major/Plans: Poli Sci major, law school after and plan to either work in politics or international law.

-Demographics: White, Female, First Gen, Middle Class

BTW both schools would be regular decision because spending that much money for school is not something I can be tied down to if I do get an acceptance. I've applied EA to all of my state schools and got acceptances from each and I know where I'll probably end up attending due to money and admissions decisions. I genuinely have heard so many mixed things about my stats so I need help knowing if I have a chance at NYU or BU, both of which are my top choices if I get admitted. Just wanna know if its a waste of money to apply to these schools. Also if you have an recs for schools that would match my stats please let me know which ones, I want to apply to more! I am applying for other schools not mentioned in this post, I just didn't see a need to include them. Anyways, thank you :)

LOR: one from my Calc AB teacher : didn't do well in his class lol but i've known him for a very long time bc he's also my robotics coach and so we're close and he's commended me for my work ethic and character outside of class 💀 (7-8/10)

A reminder for all of you!

Most of you would have submitted your ED and EA Applications, many would have started on the RD Applications. Many would be trying to enhance their ECA. Many would be prepping to retake SAT/ACT. I just want to remind you, when you look at that screen and don't see your desired outcome it is not the end of the world. College is only a small part of your life. There are things in life later on that would be more important that getting into MIT. No college defines your success. I work as a software engineer, I myself did my schooling from MIT and Caltech, pretty amazing huh? Lemme tell you something. I have co workers who have the same pay as me and same responsibilities and have done their schooling from state schools!

Did their college define their success? Today they are competing with the ones that beat them previously. It's not about your college name. It's about what you learn during college. College is just a medium to prepare you. Each University has good professors. In no way will you get let down by your education

You all have worked your asses off these 4 years and give yourself a pat on the back, It's what you've learned throughout this journey and how it had changed your life. It is about the preparation not the result

I better not see anyone depressed after their results or I will send an angry pitbull after you🤣

-Signing off

testing scores

I'm applying to a couple of schools with like a 20% (ish) acceptance rate. Overall, I have very strong stats (including almost all dual-enrollment courses), however, I have a question about my test scores.

I submitted my AP score report and ACT score to all of these schools. I have taken AP Calc AB (4), AP lang (2), and AP Euro (3) tests and I self-studied AP lang. Now, my ACT score is 31 in every category but a 29 in math. Since these schools claim to view everything holistically, will the AP Lang score be considered an outlier, or will it harm my application? All of my classes are Honors, APs, and College classes (including English Lang/Comp & math classes) and I have gotten A's in all of them if that helps.

I plan on submitting some masters' applications this month (UGA, FSU, Gatech) the thing is I am not going to pay for them (I am an international student i wanna save up on tax) my relatives in the US are letting me use their credit card. Would it matter and affect my application? the location where the payment came through?

WHAT SCHOOLS FOR SOMEONE WITH NO HOOKS LOL

Hi!

I'm pretty much the standard qualified applicant here. No hooks, not seeking aid

SAT: 1540 (740M/800EVBRW)

GPA: 4.0 uw, 4.78 w (on a 5.3 scale but whatever u get the idea)

Rank: 1/~225

Courseload: 12 APs, 14 honors courses (basically every course except required electives)

AP tests: 5s on chem, physics 1, apush, lang, precalc; 4 on csp (sophomore year)

Essays & letters of recommendation: I've shown my personal statement to many people (both randoms and qualified counselors and whatever) and the reception is extremely positive, I think it's really solid---9/10; my letters of recommendation are probably quite good also, I'd guess 7-8/10

What do you guys think is possible? I'm of course throwing out a couple of ivy-level applications just to see, but i'm really hoping i can at least snag a couple of options in the t20-t50 range (places like usc, unc, georgetown, w&m)

For context, applying for polisci

Chance me for mostly massachusetts schools

chance a desperate girl (please)

Hi! To clarify, my journey is not the best because I moved to America during sophomore year (don’t know if that’s a hook?), so most of my progress is shown in 9/11/12 grade due to me having to acclimate and learn english from scratch, still kept all A's but a B in 10th grade.

Demographics — Latina (recent US. Citizen) — State/Location of Residency: Massachusetts — Type of high school: small, catholic private school — Hooks: First generation, Female in STEM

Intended Major(s) — Neuroscience, biology if neuroscience is not offered. Pre-Med track.

Stats — Weighted GPA: to be determined, finished junior year with a 4.02 GPA. School doesn’t do unweighted. — Test Optional — Class Rank: 13/76 (school kinda messed up the rank this year, not including the years students were enrolled in other schools, so it’s very common to see lower grades in top 10 or so)

Coursework — Not allowed to take more than 5/13 AP classes. AP-Bio, APUSH, AP-CS, AP-Spanish, AP-French. — 5 Honors classes in math & english.

Extracurricular Activities (very summarized) — Book collector for donations: collected +120 and donated them to small english teaching places in low income-rural areas in the Dominican Republic.

— Research with professor: quality and manufacturing of medical materials, created new templates for the lab, researched + labeled +600 materials, presented my work at Harvard-MIT summer institute.

— Student Ambassador Program: self explanatory school club, gave a speech to +450 individuals at a fundraiser for financial aid aimed to prospective students at my school, my team got to raise 200k.

— Healthcare and wellness club founder: created a digital newspaper to spread awareness of common health issues around teenagers, interviewed 10 doctors and 3 patients of the issues covered. Relatively new and ongoing activity.

— Dance: (These are two extracurriculars i’m going to summarize) taught 40 middle school kids/2 grades dance, leader and choreographer of the dance team, presented at a christmas function to 250+. Founder and co-leader of kpop dance team, lead +10 practices, +6 solos, attended around 10 competitions, stopped due to immigration.

— Coordinator of Culture Exchange activity: Led and divided groups, coordinated decorations & research teams. Researched & spread DR’s history during assemblies to 250+, presented x9.

— 9th Grade class Vice President: co-led 8 meetings, lead an anti-bullying support group of 10 in which we made ~15 presentations, etc…

— Two more mixed extracurriculars (english classes, hobbies…)

Awards/Honors — Harvard-MIT Biomedical Optics Summer Institute Completion — Gala Speaker at Foundations (one speaker chosen out of all students at my hs) — President List + Honor Roll x3 — Highest Averages x3 (9th grade award) — National Honors Society

Letter of Recommendations AP-BIO teacher, geometry teacher and my mentor at my research lab (harvard med. school professor)

Essay TW: Personal statement about the independent scientific experiment that helped me overcome the self harm that came with my immigration related to my fear of cold water as a child. (to hard to explain but the essay is pretty easy to read and understand!!)

Schools — Wellesley College (dream school) — Amherst College — Williams College — Barnard College — Boston College — Boston University — Bryan Mawr College — Colby College — Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences — NYU — Northeastern University — Tufts university — Umass Amherst — Umass Boston

Thinking about if i manage my time (probably not applying) — Columbia, Upenn, Cornell — Umiami — University of Illinois Chicago

Thank you!

Northeastern, should I submit 1410 SAT with a low GPA?

I am applying ED to Northeastern (very last minute ik) and was wondering if I should submit my sat of 1410 if I had a low GPA (3.67). I go to a private school and have some extracurriculars and was wondering if submitting my lowish SAT would help improve my shot by any chance... thanks!

Cheezy common app that looks like I’m virtue signaling

I want to write my essay on stories i wrote for my brother and i don't know if that's cheesy. For some context i was the oldest of 3. My youngest brother is now 7 when we were very young when my dad died. I write stories for him because i wanted to instill in him some of the ideals i had been taught into him and i knew he loved stories. The world i built for him eventually become a 200 page book which i published and sold a decent amount of copys all 5 start reviews. I don't know if it seems super cheesy or looks like I'm virtue signaling
