Georgia tech in-state

GATech instate Business admin major interest Rural area

I have a low gpa (3.6UW), but with 12 AP, 10 honors, and overall good course rigor. Additionally I have a 1430 on the SAT and pretty great EC’s (started my own e-commerce business that is quite profitable , president of club & involved in service events, varsity sport, officer of business club, etc). But I’m worried about my chances since I have a few C’s in ap-level classes throughout high school. Yes, I will make sure to explain this the best I can in the additional information section. Both my essays and LOR’s should be quite outstanding. Just wanted to get some insight about my odds and if anyone with a similar situation has gotten in. I make it pretty clear in my app that GT is my #1 choice.

Chance a great student that did poorly 9th, 10th grade but excelled in the last 2 years of highschool and 1500 sat

Stats: Fresh:85.4 Soft:87.6 Junior:96 Senior fall grades so far:95

Gpa w fresh year: 91.25 Gpa w/o fresh year: 92.9(might get a teacher to round so I can get 93) Aps(only took junior senior): 7 Junior: APLIT(5), APCSP(5) Senior: APECON(macro/micro eco), APSTATS, APCALC AB, APCSA, APES. Haven’t taken senior tests yet but I am doing well in everything after like 3 tests in each class.

No rank school doesn’t do that

SAT(1550,800math, 750english)

I am a leader at my school and recognized by administration as a major school leader

I have worked for 4 summers while in highschool.

I have been apart of leadership training academy’s where only select people from my school were invited to.

I worked on issues regarding public housing.

What took up most of my free time was quantitative stock trading which I picked up and have tripled initial in less than 1.5 years.

Not sure what my essays will be on yet, I might connect to my growth through adhd and how I initially was kicked down by it but then eventually controlled it.

Personal: High income Cali instate Top private school

I want to apply to t20s since I’ve been told my app is compelling, because of my growth in grades and my personal development. Just rec what reach’s and targets I should apply to.

MAJOR: FINANCE maybe math or cs

History nonprofit EXECUTIVE leadership opportunities!

Hi guys, I recently found this small nonprofit called tjp . org, it's dedicated towards tearing down barriers to history which I found really neat. They do a lot of things apparently, but it looks like that they are mostly a history publication like the concord review I guess. To be fair, I only found this out because my friend is an editor there, so I thought I might just share this opportunity for all of you to find! Apparently they raised $200k+ so they are doing really well.

I don't know the deadline but apparently it's the end of this month. I think it's a neat idea!

some s&d small awards

AP scholar

(hoping to qualify for National Merit, college prep scholars for questbridge, will be submitting bioinformatics project to STS and other places)

Founded (vague intentionally) club that meets monthly; organized, contacted hospital, and donated (stuff) to sick kids at a famous hospital

club and high school swimmer

NHS officer

Work 3x a week as a lifeguard (to help my mom with bills and stuff)

Invited to national MUN thing

developing browser extension for fun in my (limited) free time (might release it to the public if i ever finish it)

i was accepted to cornell's high school engineering outreach program on full aid despite these "mid" stats and terrible gpa (for ivies at least lol)

(my group leader told me that the college gives a preference/boost to those who do this program, but the director denied this so im not sure)

Essays/LORs/Other:

here's a quick rundown of potential topics/my life:

in 10th grade 1st sem my grades plummeted because my mom got really sick with pneumonia during winter about a month before finals and i was really busy taking care of her (i was irrationally scared she would pass away) so i got really stressed out and flunked all of my finals and the tests leading up to finals 💀

dealing with immature older brother (basically i raised him despite being his younger sister which is a strange topic since usually you hear about the older sibling raising the younger sibling)

my grades arent that good because i go to a notoriously difficult school (filled with rich privelaged snobby kids who've never worked in their life lol dont worry i def won't use this language while describing anything💀) while also balancing home life and work

lore behind the philanthropy with my club (brief version: my dad (who passed away from terminal illness right before high school) was one of the patients at said famous hospital and i felt really depressed and lonely whenever i was there so i couldnt imagine how my dad felt when we weren't visiting)

recs:

i have a pretty good relationship with all of my teachers. While applying to CPS i will let them know im low income and any other background info. my counselor knows my situation very well.

should i bother with ivys & t10s in RD (low gpa + extenuating circumstances)

Im applying for the political science major!

Demographics

School: Rural high school with fewer than 100 students

Average ACT Score: 15

Average SAT Score: 900

Ethnicity: White asf (Middle Eastern, Slavic, and Hispanic)

Languages Spoken: Polish, English, and proficient in Spanish

Hooks: none, I’m a first generation immigrant but both parents went to college

Stats:

-33 ACT score (i suck at the ACT in comparison to SAT)

  • Expecting 1500+ SAT score (I’ve taken some blue book tests and did decent on PSAT)
  • 3.7-3.8 GPA (I developed a bone tumor, after surgery I had an infection that inflamed my brain. As it mimicked symptoms of ADHD, I was prescribed meds that exacerbated my symptoms. However, I have a 4.0 for my senior grades right now)
  • took all the AP classes that I could have at my school… my school only offers three, I took seven (self studied online)

Extracurriculars

  1. U.S. Senate Page: I was one of 30 students selected nationally for the prestigious U.S. Senate Page Program, where I lived in Washington DC for six months and gained firsthand experience in the legislative process by assisting senators with daily operations and engaging with the highest levels of U.S. governance.

  2. President and Co-Founder of a Nonprofit: Co-founded a nonprofit dedicated to supporting high-achieving, gifted, and twice-exceptional students in rural areas, providing resources and opportunities to help them excel academically. Our next fundraiser aims to raise $20,000–$50,000 to fund Youth in Government scholarships.

  3. Youth in Government - Senate President: Serving as Senate President in Youth in Government, I am currently organizing the next statewide Model Government Conference, which will involve over 300 students in hands-on legislative simulations and policy discussions.

  4. Founder and Developer of Voter notification app: I developed a digital tool that helps users register to vote, research candidates, and notifies them when to vote. Launching on the App Store soon, and I’m hoping to have at least 1,000 downloads before RD is due.

  5. Girls State Mistress of Ceremonies: Selected out of over 500 participants at Girls State for my superior public speaking skills (not my words, the program’s) to speak at a high-profile state event.

  6. Vice Chair of a High School Political Organization: As Vice Chair, I help organize events and i’m currently organizing my representative’s next youth out reach campaign event, and mobilize young voters, and lead advocacy efforts for progressive policies across the state.

  7. Peer Mentor: As a Peer Mentor, I tutor students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities, helping them improve their reading and comprehension skills. On average, I have helped raise their Lexile levels by 200 points, ensuring they achieve significant academic progress.

  8. Forensics State Qualifier: Qualified for the state level in competitive forensics, showcasing my strengths in public speaking, debate, and critical thinking through various events focused on communication.

  9. Independent Research in Neuropsychiatry/Polisci: Conducted independent research exploring the intersection of neuropsychiatry and political science, examining how cognitive and psychological factors influence political behavior and decision-making. However, I just found a mentor for this endeavor. It probably won’t be published anywhere (especially since I’m from a under resourced rural area) but I do genuinely love to compose research papers.

  10. Varsity Soccer/Sailing: I’m uncertain which of these two sports to include in my application. Also before anyone says only rich people sail, sailing is free where I live.

Letters of Recommendation

  1. United States Senate (not a senator tho!) 10/10
  2. District Attorney (my youth in government advisor who can also attest to my fundraiser) 10/10
  3. Science Teacher who has known me since I was 13 10/10

Awards\Distinctions

  1. U.S Congressional Award (Silver Medal)

200 volunteer hours 2. Girls Nation First Runner Up Out of 500 girls they picked two to go to girls nation, I was the first alternate. 3. YMCA Youth Advocate (hopefully) 4. U.S Senate Youth Scholar (hopefully) 5. State Senate Scholar (hopefully)

Chance Me Please (Asian Living In Barcelona)

Demographics: Male, Asian, International? (Live in Barcelona but have a green card for the US).

I go to an international school school in Barcelona (British School of Barcelona), arguably the most competitive high school in my region.

Intended Major(s): Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.

ACT/SAT/SAT II: 1570 on the SAT. IELTS 8.0.

UW/W GPA and Rank: 44/45 in IB. High school doesn't rank, but if I'd say I'm probably 2/200.

Coursework: IB.

I took Physics HL, Math AA HL, English A HL, Spanish ab initio SL, Chemistry SL, and ESS SL, everything is a 7 except for a 6 in ESS (I hate ESS).

Awards:

Winner of the International Victoria Piano Competition, won 1500 euros, a 40 minutes solo recital and a concert with an orchestra in Italy.

UKMT Gold Certificate.

UKMT Silver Certificate.

Attainment award for the best grades in the year for Physics and Music in my school.

Duke Of Edinburgh Bronze (Bruh I know right).

Extracurriculars: Include leadership & summer activities

Done a project with 4 students that designed and built our own flying-wing UAV that detects forest fire, wrote a proposal and a paper and is collaborating with government for testing and funding to survey a natural park. I was under the guidance of 5 university professors with one being a professor of Aerospace Engineering from a prestigious Chinese university.

Have a divemaster license (SSI Divemaster) and helps a diving center train new divers, trained 15 OW, 7 AOW, and 1 Rescue Diver already. I have 120 dives.

Got my snowboarding instructor license (CASI Level 1) and works part time during the winter. Snowboarded for 6 years.

Plays piano for my school band, performed at multiple music festivals hosted by the school, performed in our Barcelona campus (basically a new campus) grand opening with all the staff and CEO's attending. I also represented my school with another singer in a concert with all the international schools around Barcelona attending.

Math Society: Founded a society that teaches GCSE early-entry math students math to prepare them for their exam. (6 members)

Pantomime Society: Co-leader of a society that writes our own script and performs them in local public schools to underprivileged children to teach them English.

Tutors Year 8 (Grade 7) students math after school, charges money.

School rugby team player, I'm the only Asian in there somehow.

Play tennis under an ATP 500 coach for 5 years and competes in regional competitions.

I also play golf and violin but there's no big achievements so I'll just leave them here.

Some interests just plain hobbies are: Fashion (God I love it), Urban Exploring and Breakdancing (any Bboys here?)

Essays/LORs/Other:

Essay:

Probably 7-8/10? I'm writing about my life in Spain by using one of the pieces I played (Chopin's Ballade No.1 in G minor) as a metaphor for how my life progresses, as in the introduction correlates with my starting years in Spain etc.

LOR:

Headmaster, Executive Principal (9-10/10): He regularly watches my concerts and came to my 40 minutes one too. We are very close and he says he'll do everything he can to support me, absolutely my favorite staff member.

Physics teacher (9-10/10): He's very close with me and oversaw my development as a student because I barely work hard during these years lol I only started grinding this year. He also saw my projects and knows them really well.

English teacher (8-9/10): She used to use my essay as model essays when we were doing the GCSE and somehow believes in me quite a lot compared to other teachers.

Music Teacher (7.5-8/10): She is impressed by my piano skills and hosts a lot of the concerts if not all in school which I am always asked to perform.

Schools:

REA: Stanford University.

EA: Georgia Tech, Purdue, Michigan, Illinois.

RD: Rice, Princeton, Notre Dame, UC Schools (UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, UC Davis)

I don't have a lot of awards because Spain is just a hella lazy country and I've done all I could (sending emails to all those university professors and try to do my own projects rather than finding something that is low quality for students to attend).

Please give some advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
