After a year of trying multiple lakes, I fished my first one, in a little urban pond.
I fish rivers and lakes of pa, our state record is only 66 pounds so I am unlikely to catch any MONSTERS but I can still get some big guys. What lb mono should I run?
I don't know if these are og any interest totally honest I sell these pellets but I'm putting this out there in case anyone esp in the usa wanted to give them a go them selves be really interested in the results.
Super Pellets
2 Get a big barrel 60 or 90 L is a good size I use bud dustbins with clip down lids.
3 Add 20 L id pure fish oil , I use salmon oil but any good pure fish oil should do the job.
5.add any adatives you want to like Liver or amino extracts or fish saurce or anything else you think could work.
After 2 weeks take them out of the oil into a bucket keep them damp. You can either bag them up now ,you can use safe preservatives like salt etc with the pellets for prolonged storage but don't over do it. You can use them like this or you can move to the coating stage.
Coating ... First you need a thick sticky glug I make mine from a base if salmon oil 70% ( glycerine and molasses) 8 then add some more flavour.
Make your powder coating you can put alsorts if stuff in this but the basic mix I use is blood powder and liver powder if different grades of granularity normally mixed with fish meals if different types.
Add some if your glug to a plastic bag add some pellets I normally to 20 at a time to the bag trap air in the bag and stake covering the pellets in the thick goug.
10.then grab a big put in some of your coating mix, using thin gloves extract your pellets from the glug and drop them in the powder again trap air in the bag and stake till pellets are covered then lay them out on paper
towels over night to.oet the glug set.
Hope this is if interest to people.
Just wanted to show out this beauty
I think it’s a brown bull head but not sure. Put up a good fight on my kayak though so I’m happy
Accidentally got this little dude lol
How are yall bank fishing for channel cats in this cold I live in Utah and ever since about September the catfishing has been impossible
Hey gang just started to set out it own minnow/shad traps was curious if anyone could help a fellow man out with tips that work for yall! Thanks!
I just picked up a 8’ MH Berkley Big Game Spinning Rod and would like to use it for Catfish. I’m looking for a good reel to spool with 20LB Mono. Bonus points if it is saltwater rated as I might bring this setup to the beach when I travel.
I recently caught this channel catfish , but i didn’t have a scale with me.. how much do you guys think it weighs ?
Did I ever tell y'all about the biggest catfish I ever caught? It happened in the 90's when I was a teen, we didn't have a scale big enough to weigh it but we took a picture and the picture weighed 7 pounds!
Howdy y’all, I live right by the Ohio in southern Indiana, but don’t have a boat. Me and my boyfriend are dying to go catfishing, and are wanting to take a trip preferably no longer than a 4-5 hour drive. We wouldn’t mind renting a boat at all, and would be probably getting an air bnb wherever we go. I’m fairly new to catfishing, and am dying to catch my first flathead :) I know this time of year isn’t ideal, but we wanted to go probably early march. Any suggestions or advice is very much appreciated!!!
Live in tuolumne county and I've only ever catfishes in the summer. Ive been successful but I wanted to see if anyone had any good places within 2 hours away and any tips for winter fishing. I'd really appreciate it!
His name is Alfred Hitchcock

What’s up folks - just coming here seeking advice about winter catfishing. I am planning a trip to Illinois late this winter and planning when exactly to go and how to fish. Coming from Minnesota and would like to mix it up a bit from the usual ice excursions.
I am planning to fish two power plant lakes: Clinton and Powerton. Not looking for secret spots, but wondering if anyone in those areas has been having success lately.
I’ve heard the shad kill is a great time to find big blues. When does this usually happen? I’ve read both early winter and early spring.
What type of baits do you guys use in the winter? In the summer in MN I usually run live suckers, bullhead, crawlers, and whatever freezer-burnt meat I have lol. I know in IL you can use live bluegill, is live bait successful in the winter?
The two lakes I mentioned were where I fished when I visited the area a few years ago, open to other options. Any recommendations for other popular lakes would be great.
Spillways were my go to in IL in the summer. Do they still have a good bite in the winter. I would like to fish the main lakes too, but not sure if I want to bring my boat. Is the bank fishing alright in the winter?
Thanks in advance! Tight lines
I feel like most on this sub are in the Midwest and south, but is there anyone in PNW/Portland catfishing? I’ve always snagged a channel or two when sturgeon fishing, but I’m looking to target some blues as well. They’re rare here, but I want a chunky boy on the end of my line. Does anyone have any experience going after them in the Willy? If not, can someone offer some advice on what kind of environment they could be found in and how to bait up for them? I’m usually throwing out some herring or sand shrimp, but what else could be alluring? Much love y’all.
I know the general preference for catching blues is cutbait and for flathead is live bait, but both with eat both. Anyway, I'm just curious because I usually end up using bluegill or drum cut or live. But I know crappie would work very similar I just haven't got the chance to use it, I've also heard people really like using yellow/white bass for live bait. Any else I should know of?
I have a big bait fetish so I love using small to medium tip up suckers as bait. Wondering how many on here also has a big bait fetish. Can't be the only one.
