Currently torn between the BYD Seal and the Tesla Model 3. Although the BYD Seal has a lower sticker price, when the cost of finance is added in, overall there is a $5k premium on the Model 3.
The APR for the Model 3 is about 2.99% v it seems circa 6/7 for the Seal (i find their financing a little opaque up front) so lower sticker price is being eaten up in finance costs.
Preferred the Seal in driving but think that in the long run the Tesla will hold better value. Both cars will depreciate hard, and no intent to sell for a bit, but in the long run I do wonder if the Tesla will make up for the $5k difference on second hand resale eventually. Is my logic all out of whack?
I found the lack of stalks and the aggressive regen breaking on the Tesla a real challenge. Reading online peope say you get over it but it was certainly noticeable on the test drive.
If you want a car that can take you to far and beyond but also can be used as a daily, what would you choose?
Nothing serious off-roading, however, should be able to handle long distance gravel road with ease. Take the long distance commute - like an annual long trip to Uluru, Kangaroo Island from Sydney.
A diesel 4WD or an AWD like an Outback?
With the electric cars and the hybrids on the rise, is it wise to buy a RAV4 and drive it to Uluru?
What say?
I was approaching a just turned red light with initially no one behind me so slowed to a crawl in first gear. Then a Jeep grand Cherokee drives comes up behind me as I’ve got about 5 metres to go before I get to the red light and he blows up that I’m going at a snails pace. Why do people like rushing to red lights only to have to stop? Just to be clear we sat there stationary as his big fat head turned different shades of tomato for about a full 3 minutes before the lights went green.
So I bought the car in VIC and drove in the ACT. It only had 15km on the clock. Now's it 600ish.
I know the ideal scenario is not to drive long periods of time at the same revs, but surely it's not a big deal right? Or am I wrong?
Nissan seems to recommend break of of 2000km not going above 4k rpm. Seems a bit of a long time to me tbh.
This is my first new car EVER so I'm paranoid
Trying to save this prelude
My first car has been a good old reliable shit box. A 24 year old Mazda that runs like a dream and is super easy to pull apart for service and repair if needed.
I've had it for a few years now and after finished up studies and working I recently have gotten the itch for a faster manual. A more fun driving experience. Something that pulls in the midrange and has space in the boot. I looked at a couple Ford Mondeo xr5s but just as I'm a bout to pull the trigger, I think of old faithful and about the fact that I don't need a new car and probably won't need one for another 150-200,000kms.
I guess I'm just looking to hear experiences. Did any of you scratch that itch for a faster drivers car? Was it worth it?
Did any of you keep the old reliable slow girl? Do you regret not spending your younger years in a more fun car?
Any suggestions?
I currently have a novated lease with Maxxia and will probably need some tyres in the next 3 to 6 months. I’ve read that Maxxia has arrangements with several companies, including Bob Jane, Jaxx Tyres, and others. My question is: Generally, is the pricing of the tyres under these arrangements cheaper? Or would you suggest it’s better to source the tyres yourself and get reimbursed?
1.5L iVtec Vibe model.
-Roadworthy Certificate (RWC) supplied with sale.
-2x sets of keys.
-Registration number: ZPX968
-Serviced every 10,000kms.
-Major service carried out at 150,000kms which included new front brake pads and drive belt.
-New battery fitted January 2025
-Factory cruise control fitted.
-Bonnet protector.
-Tinted windows.
-Optioned with the full size alloy spare (not space saver) due to the car being used for country driving.

Bonnet does have stone chips as expected for a car used to travel regional kilometres.
Driving down to melbourne to inspect, is there anything i should look out for? Thank you
Does anyone know at what point when modding a car you need a mod plate or engineering certificate? For example do you need one if you’ve replaced the down pipe on a car? Do you need one if you’ve replaced the intercooler or for example with bmws if you replace the downpipe, charge pipe, intercooler and gave it a tune would you need one?
I have a 2007 Prius with nearly 300kms. It’s time to move on. However I parked my car a little close to our bins smashing off the side mirror (it’s taped on, and a good look).
And along with another smallish mechanical problem I am not super keen to keep putting money into it to get a RWC. Undeniably this is mostly laziness.
Any downsides to just selling it unreg and no RWC?
For me its a Hatch, as im a sucker for clean windows, and the rear wiper makes that easier in hatch.
Also think Hatch's look better, thou i think the CJ lancer sedan look better than the hatch.
This is possibly a dumb question but how do I know if a car I'm considering buying has completed its recall servicing?
Hi All. 18 year old know it all step son wants a new car for work. Current car is fine but I can't talk him out of it. 15k budget looking for a work ute , twin cab type. Any assistance appreciated. Cheers
What are we thinking the hammer will fall at?
Had a inspection done, looking to sell now. Does all of this stuff need to be fixed to get a roady?
where can i buy a westfield sports car in nsw? preferably within 5-10km of campbelltown if possible, but if not, where can i get one?
I need to get a roadworthy certificate so I can give my car to my brother, it is currently unregistered and he’s very handy at fixing vehicles. The issues are not major or dangerous in any way, just 4x4 mods that are not roadworthy (3 inch lift, 33inch tyres no rear seats) . Is there a way for me to get it registered or is it going back to stock. Cheers
Planning to buy this car, a 2014 model. Is there anything I should look out for? Anything i should be aware of? My mums been telling me a hybrid goes bad after 10 years, is it true?
I know it’s for a Camry, but it’s still something really cool that I’d like for mine. From what I could gather from old forums, it was a limited Toyota factory option, is anyone able to confirm or even say whether they’ve seen it before?
Hi! I’m moving back to QLD after several years in Japan. I obtained my driving license quite recently. I really like compact, boxy cars. My favourite is Suzuki Hustler, and was really excited to buy one!
However, I found out that Kei cars, except Nissan cube, are prohibited in Australia.
Since I’m a new driver and don’t know much about all the car models out there, was wondering if there are any models in Aus that has that kind of cute box car vibe?
5 door is a must.
Otherwise I’ll probably get a Suzuki Swift. Thanks!
just picked up a Grade 1 Yaris from the auction in BNE, driving back to Syd (not driving right now).
whenever we go under a bridge or through a tunnel, the radio turns off/resets, and sometimed all of the dashboard warning lights come on and tacho/speedo resests
wondering if maybe it had a tracker on it (ex Brisbane City Council car) and they've stuffed something removing it?
any ideas?
[edit 1] fault finding. the headlights were on auto so they were turning themselves on when we went through a tunnel. turning them on manually had the same effect. when they went to bring the car out they told us they had to jump start it. my USB adapter/phone charger actually has a volt-meter built in and is sitting at 13.5V so the alternator is working.
only 8 1/2 hours till we can switch the ignition off and find out of the battery is open circuit or something.
Hey guys,
Best Nugget in your area for $5k or Less!
Facebook, CarSales, Gumtree, Trading Post, ad on the back of a public shitter door.
What's the best or weirdest car you can find in your area for $5k or less!
Hi!
So I'm looking at buying a new (used) car and specifically looking at something that's going to be generally reliable and isn't known to have issues etc. (having some continuous issues with my current car and don't want to repeat lol) - I probably have a budget of around 10k so it would be on the older side (late 2000's/early 2010's)
Atm I'm looking at something like a Grand Vitara or X-Trail for a 4wd option.
If I go a sedan option maybe a Mazda 3 Sp25?
Is there anything anyone can tell me about these options and whether they would be good choices/are reliable or their experiences with them or if there are known issues for these models? Especially with the 4wds being a bit higher in kms in my price range.
Or if you have any other suggestions for what would be good to look at?
Thanks everyone!
