Cache taking up TONS of space. Is there a way to prevent this or store the space externally?

Hi everyone. I'm trying to combine multiple .cpt files into one. Altogether it'll be about 80GB. I have about 100GB of storage on my laptop. I have each separate .cpt file stored on an external drive, as well as the master .cpt file, which is also on an external drive. So none of these files are directly on my laptop.

However, when I combine the slides, the cache builds up super fast and it's causing issues where the slides don't transfer well or sometimes the file crashes. This is partially because I guess the cache eats up so much space. I clear it as often as possible.

What I don't understand is I might transfer a .CPT file worth 10GB to another .CPT file of 8GB, both on the external drive, but somehow it takes up nearly 50 GB of space. How is this?

Is there a way to avoid this? I am having a terrible time trying to finalize the project.

I am copying files from one CPT to another. But they are copying "dark". So white slides are black etc. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

I'm copying and pasting from one CPT to another as a way to combine all mini-files into one mega course. When I copy and paste, many of the slides are copying dark. Some slides with a white background and posting black; some images are posting 10 shades darker, some images are ither missing or completly black. I have no idea what's going on. Any advice?

Thanks!

Quiz with Randomized Questions

Hi! I’m new to Captivate. I’m trying to create a 20-question quiz from a 150-question question bank using Captivate Classic. I want the user to be able to take the quiz 4 times, and each time have a different assortment of questions. Would I accomplish this by creating one “pool” of the 150 questions and then adding 20 “random question” slides? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Any ideas on the easiest way to add Closed Captions?

I have roughly 100 video slides in a large project. Is there a seamless way to add Closed Captions to this? I have no idea how to do it. I was hoping the app itself could generate them, but the app isn't "there" yet lol... I know YouTube can create captions, but not sure if that would work. Also seems pretty time consuming. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

Quiz Results Not Showing on VR Project

I am running my published html file from AWS EC2. I wasn't getting the quiz results and kept thinking it is an issue with running on the webserver or the php file.

However, realized that in PREVIEW there is never the slide with "Quiz Results" that has the the choice of "Post Result". I can see the slide but it doesn't show up when I play.

Anyone had similar issues or any idea ?

There is a blank slide between the "Question Slide" and the "Quiz Results" slide.

I have not deleted anything.

The question was added via Hotspot -> add question. Report Answers is checked and Publish Setting -> Quiz/Reporting has Enable Reporting checked as well.

Thanks for ur help.

INDEX FILE ON HARD DRIVE

Hello All,

I can preview my project fine but when I save the published files to my hard drive, clicking on the index files and clickign on play, opens a black browser page !

I understand from reading a lot of helpful information from others that Cp projects need to be put on webservers or LMS systems to work but I thought one could save the files on local C drive and run the project by clicking on index file. Interestingly, after publishing to C drive, I get a message "Publish Completed successfully. Do you wish to view the output" ... if I click yes, the projects open in a browser window and runs fine. However, going into the local folder and clicking on the index file opens a browser window and clicking on the PLAY button does not load the scene but just a black screen !

P.S - Thanks to Lily and Paul Wilson for helping newbies. Paul's video on AWS S3 to upload published project on webserver is awesome ... but it would be good to know if opening the index on the PC's hard drive should or should not work.

Conversion of projects in different formats

Hi, I use both Adobe Captivate and Articulate Storyline 3. Wanted to know if there a way by which I can preserve the interaction and yet convert my projects into a different format like ppt or mp4?

Thanks in advance

Cp > Storyline

I am a longtime Captivate user who has worked freelance/contract jobs for almost 20 years. The all new Cp is not going to work for me so I am upskilling on Storyline.

From what I have experienced so far, the UI will take some getting used to and the keystrokes are lacking, but otherwise it will allow me to build custom elearning.

Any tips or guidance from other IDs who have been through this?

edit: the title means moving from Cp to Storyline, not Cp is better than Storyline.

New User to Adobe Captivate

Hello All .... new to Adobe Cp and reddit !

I am just starting with Captivate and hoping to learn from everyone's experience here.

I have a bunch of 360 photos from Insta360 One RS 1inch (about 100) that I want to compile for users to tour through an Industrial space and at certain points show them some safety issues and ask them for the correct way to address the issue. Original plan was for the project to be in two parts: A - users will tour the space in 360 view B - users will interact with safety issues by first identifying them and then fixing it.

However, I was told that only A could be done with 360 photos and B would need to be in VR by creating scenes. Latter can get very (very) expensive to build in VR since it would mean hand rendering all the scenes.

I wanted to use the scans/images from A for B. Hence, the plan was to use Matterport or VRDirect to create an interactive 360 photo experience.

Then I ran into Adobe Cp and seems like this is exactly what I should be using. So here I am.

Before I realize that tool like Cp exists, I thought I would need Adobe Premiere Pro, which is a NLE. However, I think I was wrong.

Some questions and really appreciate all ur help:

  1. Any reason that I would need Adobe Premiere Pro and Captivate subscription, or just Adobe Captivate is good for what I am trying to achieve ? Assuming I am only working with photos. Don't know if I were to throw in a 360 video or two, the answer to this question would change.

  2. Seems like there is a Captivate Classic and Adobe Capitvate ... and there seem to be significant compatibility issues. I am starting to crawl, so which one should I start with since I am not use to anything ?

Thank you all.

Is there an easy way to import one CPT into another (combine files)?

I want to import a bunch of files from one CPT into another (combine files). Is there an easy way to do this? I am copying each slide one by one but it's going to take forever this way. There must be a more logical approach. Using the current version.

Can someone help me fix an issue I have with video, quizzes, and functionality?

Hi all! Lemme start by clarifying that I'm using the current version, not Classic.

First off, I want to set a video on one of the slides to play automatically. I have read online I should make this an "event" video. I have no idea how to do this. To add a video, I used the suggested slides on the side. They have one for images, one for video etc. There is only one video option that I see. It comes with text I have turn off. I have checked every section of this slide, every area of the screen, and I do not see anything for "event video" or "autoplay". Anyone know what I'm overlooking?

Second, I am confused as to whether I need to alter the info for quizzes. I'm not sure if the default programming will suffice. For example, on the certificate page or quiz page, they have "student name". But where will they get the student name from? I looked in the priorities section and it says "student name from LMS" but I'm not sure if that's an instruction to the computer or if I need to edit any of that stuff myself.

Also, the course will have separate sections. I have saved each of these sections as its own CPT file. I see now, if I want than all part of the same course, I must important them all into one master file ("mega class"). But is there a simple way for the one file to recognize different sections? For example, each section has its own quizzes. If they're all part of one file, then they will likely be graded as such. Is there a way to have each section graded separately?

Sorry, I know that's a lot, but I really appreciate if anyone can help me figure this out. Much appreciation!

I want to combine several classes (different .cpt files) into one mega course. How can I do that?

Using the new Captivate. I am combining several "mini courses" into one mega course, which I want to be functional via SCORM. Right now, each class is saved as its own .cpt file. But I'm not really sure how to put them all together into one functional course. Can i combine them somehow? Can I create a like a menu where students can choose whichever mini-course they want to pursue first? Any suggestions on how best to handle this? Thanks!

If I use YouTube links for video instead of direct downloaded videos, can I still create a workable SCORM package?

I'm using Captivate Classic to create an elearning course. Orginally I was going to include my video files directly, but that creates large files that keep crashing, so now I'm thinking of maybe just hosting the courses on YouTube as unpublished videos and including the links instead (for streaming).

My question- 1.) I need to convert this to SCORM; will this work if I just include a link instead of the entire video file? 2.) If I just put a YT link, will the link be visible to students? My concern being, if they can see the links of the videos, they can bypass the SCORM package and just watch online.

Thanks for clarifying!

Articulate users can drastically reduce size of .story file using this automation

I am the founder of doctorelearning.com

Articulate Storyline users can now drastically reduce the size of large .story files in just one click with their experimental compression feature from https://doctorelearning.com
No more need for spending hours manual unzipping, searching for media and then using a third-party tool media editing tools. Check out the feature in action on YouTube with 4x compression in a few minutes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oLDJh3lb3ZY

Seeking feedbacks from community on the same.

TL;DR : One can do the same thing manually, but using our automation the degree of control on compression level and media type is high. Also manually where you spend hours will convert to minutes.

New Adobe Captivate vs. Articulate Storyline 360: A User’s Perspective

New Adobe Captivate vs. Articulate Storyline 360: A User’s Perspective

Introduction

eLearning development has evolved significantly in recent years with technological advancements in authoring tools. Knowing which tool is right for you is essential for creating effective eLearning courses. The new Adobe Captivate and Articulate Storyline 360 are two popular tools in the eLearning industry. In this blog, I'll compare them based on my experience of using them.

Authoring Tool Need Analysis

Before deciding on the tool, I recommend carrying out a detailed analysis of your authoring needs. It will help you identify the features that must be considered while making the choice.

Below are some questions that I use for the analysis before choosing a tool.

  • What type of eLearning content do you need to create? This will help you determine the features that are most important to you in an authoring tool.

For example, to create software simulations or template-based courses, choose a tool that supports these features.

  • What devices will your learners use to access your eLearning courses? For an audience that accesses content on varied devices, choose a tool that supports easy responsive courses.
  • What level of technical expertise do you possess? For a team that is not very tech-savvy or has limited programming knowledge, choose a tool that is easy to use.
  • What is your timeline for developing and deploying eLearning courses? For limited development timelines, you'll need to choose a tool that you can learn quickly.
  • What are the accessibility requirements? Some authoring tools offer better support for accessibility features and specific standards like WCAG2.1 than others. Choose a tool that meets your course’s accessibility requirements.
  • What level of collaboration is required for course development? For many eLearning development projects, collaboration is critical. If it is so, you'll need to choose a tool that offers built-in collaboration features.
  • What is your budget? eLearning authoring tools can range in price and flexibility of subscription from monthly to annual. Set a budget before you start shopping so that you can narrow down your choices.
  • What kind of customer support do you need? Some authoring tools offer comprehensive customer support, while others offer limited support. Choose a tool accordingly.

Thus, with a detailed analysis you can make a more informed decision about which eLearning authoring tool is right for you and your organization.

The Verdict

Both Adobe Captivate and Articulate Storyline 360 are powerful eLearning authoring tools with their own strengths and weaknesses.

I found the new Adobe Captivate suitable for all my rapid, responsive, and template-based eLearning development needs. With its readymade widgets and simple Interactions inspector, creating courses with advanced interactivities also seems easy. It has excellent features for creating interactive software simulations. I found the design options in the new Adobe Captivate to be helpful in creating modern-looking, beautiful, and aesthetically appealing eLearning courses.

On the other hand, Articulate Storyline 360 is a flexible authoring tool, that is useful for projects that require collaboration with stakeholders and SMEs. Its in-built integration with Review 360 comes in handy to streamline the review and feedback process during development. The similarity of its interface to PowerPoint makes working with the tool simpler.

Please share your experience with the two tools in the comments section below.

Conclusion

Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate are both powerful e-learning authoring tools that can be used to create engaging and effective e-learning courses. However, they have their own unique strengths and weaknesses.

Articulate Storyline is a good choice for eLearning developers who are looking for a tool that is easy to use and offers a wide range of content authoring capabilities. Adobe Captivate is a better choice for eLearning developers who need more advanced features and customization options.

Ultimately, the best e-learning authoring tool for you will depend on your specific needs and requirements. I recommend that you try both Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate to see which one is right for you.

Additional Tips for Choosing an E-Learning Authoring Tool

Here are some additional tips for choosing an e-learning authoring tool:

Consider your target audience: What devices will your learners be using to access your e-learning courses? If you have a mobile audience, you'll need to choose a tool that offers responsive design support.

Think about your content needs: What types of e-learning content do you need to create? If you need to create complex simulations or virtual reality experiences, then you'll need to choose a tool that supports these features.

Evaluate your budget: E-learning authoring tools can range in price from free to hundreds of dollars per month. Set a budget before you start shopping so that you can narrow down your choices.

Read reviews and compare features: Once you've narrowed down your choices, read reviews and compare features to find the best tool for your needs.

Help! Quiz questions are breaking navigation in New Captivate?

Been bashing my head against this for a bit and looking for some help if anyone can offer it. I have a fairly large project that features some medium to long vertically scrolling slides at the bottom of which are quiz questions. A few of these quiz questions are just a single option to confirm that the reader actually scrolled all the way down.

However, it seems that the inclusion of any of these questions causes navigation through the project as a whole to break. I'll test the project and reach a point where the slides will not progress. I can see that the rest of the project exported via the table of contents but I simply cant navigate to any slide beyond that point.

I've been unable to determine any kind of workaround or even a direct cause. Any and all suggestions or help much appreciated! 💖

Theme Color Configuration

Hello!

My team and I are trying to build a consistent "theme" or formally known as Templates, to jump from when building out courses and we're confused as to what the color configuration and system colors actually pertain to. I know there is a visual image next to it, but that's rather ambiguous and I was wondering if there was a text definition of what Color 1 controls, color 2 controls etc. Thanks in Advance!

Resources to help me better learn Captivate 2023?

I’m new to Captivate and I’m trying to scrounge up as much info as I can find to help better learn the program, but there doesn’t seem to be many YouTube guides or online tutorials up yet.

Can anybody point me in the direction of some Captivate 2023 reference material resources?

Animation interaction not working in Captivate 12 for me. What am I doing wrong?

Hi, I’m new to Captivate, so I downloaded the Captivate 12 demo and I’m learning from a book. I’m trying to add the wobble interaction animation (or really any interaction animation) to a photo, but when I preview the slide the picture just kinda flashes. It wobbles in the Captivate menu but never in the preview. I’ll walk you through my steps:

  1. I add an image

  2. I select the image, click interactions, and click “add an interaction”

  3. In the “Mouse” menu I select “Click/Tap”

  4. In the action menu I select “Apply animation”

  5. In the target menu I select my image and then “next”

  6. I then select “wobble” as my animation, and it wobbles just fine in the menu preview, so I click “done” at the bottom

  7. I click to preview the slide, click the image and… nothing happens. It just kinda flashes and turns dark.

What am I doing wrong?

Masters Project in Desperate Need of Feedback

Hello Instructional Design Experts!

I am in the final stages of my masters program and I'm looking for IDEs to review my instructional design project and provide feedback through a google form. My project is titled: Why is Cancer so hard to beat? Tumor Town

The product was created to to inform learners about how cancer cells form and spread in the human body. The course is targeted towards adult cancer patients, friends and family of cancer patients, and adults that are interested in and have no prior knowledge of cancer. I have used the medium of storytelling to alleviate some of the negative feelings associated with cancer. Your input will help me make the necessary changes before I finalize my instructional product.

If you're willing, please click on the embedded link to review the instructional project and then provide feedback in the Google Form.
