I have used Cantasia since 2018 and Snagit since 2016.
Camtasia has crashed on me twice in the past six days. Both times it occurred when I tried to save a cmproj file (which I then would export to a local file as an mp4 to publish for work). Both times it told me that my screen recordings and recorded audio files are, “Unopenable.”
In this month alone, Snagit has been inoperable at times and I’ve had to manually clear saved screenshots that weren’t fully rendered and thereby useless. I submitted a ticket and chatted in before finding someone online who had posted the aforementioned solve.
Having to deal with this the first few weeks at my new job has doubled or tripled my workload.
I still have open, unsolved tickets with TechSmith.
Any ideas as to a solve for Camtasia? Should I move on beyond TechSmith and look for new tools?
😢
So basically, if I put a picture into the corner of the screen, over the main canvas, how do I zoom in ONLY on the annotation in the corner of the screen without it growing and covering the entire main canvas? Thanks :)
I am working with a Teams Recording and when I render/export at 720 it is making this green matrix-y looking during some of the screenshare parts of my video. I have also utilized imported media, like images and annotations and they are appearing fine. Is there something I am missing?
This happens to me more often than I would care to admit. I flip between voice and screen recording pretty frequently and a lot of times I will get to the end of what I think is a screen recording just to realize it picked up my keyboard strokes, mouse clicks, and breathing.
Anyone else do this by accident? :)
Hello - looking for some guidance here, my typical voiceover workflow is to record 5-10 seconds of audio and then immediately listen to it and determine if it needs to be redone. When using TechSmith Audiate, with the three second countdown (every time I press record) plus what appears to be 30 to 60 seconds of “processing” that occurs at the end of every audio recording – my workflow is essentially ruined. I don’t even know if the audio is going to turn out the way I like it before having to spend almost a minute waiting for it to process.
1. Can I remove the 3 second count down (to match most other recording platforms)
2. Is there a way to significantly speed up the “processing recording” step at the end? I just need to HEAR my recording to even know if im going to keep it!
Title says it all. In Camtasia 2024, I have a project file that's about 60 mins long in 1920x1080 resolution with audio and when I export on my Mac the file size is about 1GB. On my PC with the same settings (as far as I can tell - the options between the two versions of the app don't match exactly) the exported file is about 350MB. Is there something I can do to get the file size down on Mac OS without sacrificing quality?
Thought I would share this as it's transformed Camtasia for me.
Its always been sluggish for me, even on a decent spec PC with 64GB of RAM, but this week for some reason it went near unusable. I dug into the settings and told it to use my GTX 1660 for hardware acceleration rather than the RTX 3060Ti. Don't know if it just likes that card better, or because one card is now used for the display Camtasia is running on, with the second card for rendering, but it's transformed the application. All the lagging and sluggishness navigating the timeline is gone, it's like a totally different program.
I run six screens, so have a pair of NVIDIA GPUs to give me enough physical ports, and up to now Camtasia was using my primary GPU, which drives the primary (center) monitor.
Telling it to use the 2nd GPU instead has made an insane difference. Task manager was showing Camtasia pegging the GPU at 100% before with the video paused and me doing nothing. Now neither the CPU nor GPU go over 30% during editing, and the application is properly responsive. It actually feels like I can interact with it, instead of making a change and waiting for the app to catch up.
I finally created and published an AI avatar video, which I posted only on Linkedin using Camtasia Pro. The objective was to inform and redirect Microsoft 365 users to the actual how-to video.
In video Part 2 below, I shared my experience and explained how I plan to use avatars for future videos. I even showcased the actual avatar video. The target audience for this video is Camtasia users.

I have a screen recording in my project (recorded from Camtasia). I want to move the cursor OVER TOP of a rectangle Sketch Motion object that's outlining a button I'm clicking. I figured this should be possible since the cursor can be manipulated and even deleted from the screen recording but I'm not finding a way to do this. Anyone have experience with this?
Quando coloco o vídeo raw no Camtasia nada acontece, mas após a renderização aparecem frames pretos ao longo do vídeo e, quando volto ao modo de edição, esses frames também aparecem na edição. Alguém sabe por que isso acontece e como resolver?
Solved:
Thanks to those who tried to help, although I think I explained myself poorly and everyone thought I had left gaps in the editing, but the problem was in the rendering because the entire video had this problem.
How I solved it:
For the record, I am using version 2022 of Camtasia. And it had presented this problem when I tried to speed up a scene. So this time I sped up the entire video to 1.02 and the black frames disappeared. But the acceleration is not high enough to be noticeable.
This was my actually posting requesting assistance but it's fixed, dunno how. details below
using camtasia 24 on a pc. recorded about 70 videos now all of a sudden the audio is lagging. i even separated it on a 20 min video and aligned it and a few mins later it's lagging again so this tells me that it lags more as video duration goes on. i recorded in logi capture and audio is aligned with video. im using a studio mic into a 286s processor and then into interface then into computer. audio/video is aligned in obs as well
Fixed:
i been fighting this issue for almost 2 weeks asking here was last resort ok so while typing this asking for help i tried obs and it was fine in there. then i imported the obs 2 min test video into camtasia and everything was still ok. then i left that video in camtasia and clicked record and recorded a 2 min video in camtasia and everything was fine. i closed camtasia, reopened it and did another 2 min test recording and everything is still fine.
so now i just started new project and new video trying to create a longer video as im typing this and talking in the video at same time and reading this post
ok it seems to be fine now, i even rendered it and its still fine any ideas? i changed no settings.
Im doing some screen recordings and want to save the temp recording across my work to my NAS. network is a 10Gbit. Camtasia keeps telling me there isnt enough space for some reason, i have about 16TB free. so then i tried to hook up a local USB drive though USB-C with 5TB free and Camtasia tells me the same thing. not enough free space. This is the first time ive tried to save to an external drive or across the network and im pretty confused as to whats going on. Ive checked their website for any info on this and didnt see anything saying that I cant save this way. Anyone have insight? TIA.
Happy New Year. Is there a way to crop out the black space in a project consisting of several videos and images on different Timelines so the final exported video has no black space? I know how to crop around each individual Timeline media only but not around the overall project.
In this case, I moved the different Timeline media around to minimize black space but would have preferred to move them into positions so I could: completely remove the black space:
I used Camtasia Pro - AI Avatar Generator in Audiate and Camtasia today. It was really cool.
It was easy and intuitive to create and export the AI Avatar to Camtasia using Audiate. Once in Camtasia, I removed the avatar's background and added a dynamic caption. However, I would like the avatar to move more.

Is there any outlook on release of Camtasia 2025? Has it been delayed?
On all my media clips, my workflow is to apply audio compression, drag the volume level up to the top, then apply noise reduction. Export all my projects to MP4. But they never sound loud enough. If I create a new project and import one of the MP4 files, I see the volume waveform is compressed, but only at 50% volume level. Anyone know what's going on?
Hi I'm on a MBP seqoia, and I used Camtasia in the past with other models and it worked well.
I have a problem with high CPU usage during recording a screen with a custom resolution (1920x1080) where there is high CPU usage that makes the entire laptop sluggish and unusable. Audio is also choppy.
MDS is running, i noted that, but I ran two tests.
Test 1 - MBP 2019 16" (core i9) - Recording the full screen
Result - No issues, everything runs flawlessly. MDS runs with no disruption
Test 2 - MBP 2019 16" (core I9) - Recording 1920 x 1080
Result - Unusable, high CPU from camtasia, audio recording is choppy.
I'm not sure what the resolution for this, keen to understand if there are other MBP 2019 users facing this ?
i have worked on a project for 4 hours and could not export it in the end due to some random error
i have used this app for many years and got this error for this flavour of error for the first time, not the first time getting export issues though
the worst part -- saved project no longer gets imported due to the same issue.. tried to reinstall the app countless times..
this was my last time using this app. came here to tell this so 4 hours of my life is not completely wasted.
TLDR: I need to export critical camrec files, only 2019 will do it and Techsmith refuses to sell me either a key or a subscription that will open my 2019 software on my new computer (2019 license lost with old computer).
Actually, that about sums it up. I've gone back and forth with them--I bought a subscription, but it won't unlock 2019. I've tried to buy a license key and they won't sell me one.
Their advice? "Try to by one from a reseller or an individual online".
So here I am, asking if anyone will sell me a 2019 key. Thank you!
EDIT: Poster below key didn't work out, so still on the hunt!
Hey guys, I found an annoying issue of when i record something with OBS and edit it on camtasia, i can't make a proxy video of that recording.
The "Proxy video" part is not available (yes it's in french)
It also says that the file size is 0.
I do have the possibility to make proxy videos.
Anyone already had this previous issue ? thx in advance.
I thought there was an article that said camtasia perpetual was going subscription only unless those go in on perpetual 1/1. Was it a marketing ploy and it actually isn’t going away?
Looking at Explorer, all the .tscproj extension files appear as a Folder instead of a File.
If I open it, it actually shows me all the files inside .tscproj instead of opening the the Cantasia 2024 app. Odd yes.
I have tried to reset the extension using "Open with" however there is no option in there to do so, presumably because Windows 10 is seeing the file as a Folder.
This also causes an issue when sorting in Explorer because it groups the files with the Folders.
Any suggestions appreciated.
Thanks
I am in need of a new mouse. My current one has become laggy and generally bad for finite movements and video editing. It has shown me just how important having a good mouse is when doing what we do. What does your setup look like? Does anyone have any recommendations for a solid, affordably priced mouse?
License question.
I own both 2020 and 2021 bundles. I've also been on the maintenance plan for 4 years. A couple of months ago I quit the maintenance plans and Purchased Snagit only. When visiting my TechSmith account i tells me I only own the Snagit 2024 version. Both my bundles are deleted from my account - and their license keys. I still have the license keys though in a document on my computer.
I thought I had access to my 2021 perpetual - but that might not be the case?
---------------------
See update in thread.
I actually have 2024 perpetual.
Problem is that the License overview on my TechSmith account doesn't clearly state it, it's only telling me that all my maintenance licenses has expired.
My track keeps cutting off at this point, after extending a frame earlier in this section. Why has the end of the group fallen into a grey'd out area that won't play? and how do I resolve this?
TIA, I feel like this answer will be obscenely obvious!
