My primary residence is in the US. Would the state of Berlin view my rental apartment in Berlin as a Zweitwohnung and charge me the 15% tax?
Where can one go to see the night life of Berlin today?
Besuch ist fürs Wochenende da. So wie s aussieht kommen sie auf 50-60€ für ein Wochenende parken. Gibt es in Moabit irgendwo die Möglichkeit kostenfrei zu parken? Bevorzugt Moabit Ost.
Peace
Here for the weekend and want to catch a bit of the game tomorrow if possible!
A verdict in Herrenberg has flipped the music school system upside down, and now up to 600 teachers in Berlin alone are at risk of losing their jobs, and up to 18.000 students could lose affordable access to music lessons. There are already 13.000 students on waiting lists who want lessons, and instead of expanding the possibilities like the finance senator, Stefan Evers, says he wants to do on his website, he is choosing to support the idea that freelance teachers should be let go instead of employed.
My wife works at one of the state music schools in Berlin, and has many colleagues who are at risk of losing the jobs they have had for decades. This verdict and the following actions of the senate put the future of music schools and culture in Berlin at great risk by gutting schools and tightly limiting children's access to affordable music lessons, particularly for low income families. These lessons at state funded schools are up to half the price of those at private schools.
If you'd like to support the music teachers and help save music culture in Berlin, please reach out to your local "Wahlkreisbeauftragte" (constituency commissioner) and ask them to reconsider the consequences of their actions. We also have an Instagram that you can follow, but I don't know if I'm allowed to plug that here, so I'll leave it at that.

Danke :)
Hey, my girlfriend is from Ukraine and had to fell to Germany in 2022. Lately she mentioned that she felt increasingly lonely and that she misses being in contact with other people from her cultural background.
Do you by chance know of any Ukrainian clubs / meet-ups where we could go? Clubs foe college students would be best but I'm thankful for every suggestion. Tips for Ukrainian restaurants, museums and other places in connection with Ukrainian culture are very welcome as well. Thank you :)
I have lots of German 1st edition base set pokemon cards from the 1990s. I'm looking to sell some of them while I'm in Berlin. are there any shops which buy these off of collectors? any other advice?
Hoping someone could point me in the right direction here.
I parked my bike to a pole, well within the sidewalk as well. When I went to get my bike today, I noticed that someone had parked by backing into my bike, well over the sidewalk. The pedal is now pressed against the bumper and the metal part is bent - will likely have to be replaced. The bike is now wedged between the pole and the car now and I cannot take it out without significant effort and maybe damaging the bike and the car further.
Right now I am trying to ascertain who owns the car, so I can maybe talk to them and settle it amicably.
In case this does not happen, what do I do? Where can I lodge a complaint? And/or claim liability for the repairs?
Does anybody know a service that can collect and dispose of old appliances (dishwasher + dryer)? I’m moving, have two dead appliances and the moving company will move them into the street, but I’m on my own from there. I can’t move them to BSR myself.
Im looking for a place to buy pre-owned Canon/Sony . Please suggest a place If you know any . Tried FB marketplace, lot of scammers . Thanks
I'm visiting a friend in Berlin for the weekend and have a return journey scheduled via flixbus from Berlin to Munich on Sunday night (9pm). It's supposed to arrive in Munich by 4.45am. I got a suggestion not to risk reaching Munich that close to my flight which is scheduled at 9am (Monday morning) i.e if there's any accident on the road, I'll be risking making it on time to Munich airport (need to reach airport at any cost by 7am as it's international).
Wanted to check if there are any folks who commute regularly and if I'm cutting it close? I can cancel and rebook or accept the price change (50 euro) for a 60 euro ticket (total would be 110 euro for Berlin to Munich 😔) if I'm really cutting it close.
Question: is Flixbus/roadway usually delayed?
Hello Community!
For more than a week 3 out of 3 train stations I have to use on my daily commute have broken escalators. It's not only limited to these stations, almost seems like they all broke simultaneously. Anyone else noticed an uptick of broken escalators lately? Is this like a repair offensive they are doing? It's just so bizarre to me so many broke down at the same time.
Im a gay man and Ive been living in Berlin for 1 year and I don't know anybody here ( besides my boyfriend ).
any advise on how to meet people here? Im currently not working, just learning German but still on b1 level
what do you think about Vereins?
Sorry another rant, I do not take the bus very often but some bus drivers are absolute assholes. Just this moment I saw again some dude stopping like 50m before the actual bus stop, not opening the front door (yea it was not broken, he opened it the next stop). Driving and breaking like an asshole, old people falling over. I get that the majority of bus drivers are not like this, but there is a sizable minority that are bad like this. So does anyone know why they behave like this?
I am in Rummelsburg an heard 2 or 3 quite loud “explosion” sounds and now seeing helicopters. I tried researching but no recent news still.
I'm on the 4th floor of an apartment building in Tegel and we just got trick or treaters. My German husband has never had trick or treaters before. We just moved to Berlin a few months ago. Is this something we should expect? Do we need to run to the store for candy? We didn't have anything to give to them.
Hallo Leute, where would be the best spot to trick or treat in Berlin with my little son now? I heard about around the us embassy. Is that tru, are there other streets?
