Petting zoo

Where in town can kids see farm animals up close? A petting zoo or a school program that you can walk around their barns/pens? My toddler has been asking to see cows or chickens everyday

Public running tracks / locations

Hello, I’m new to Bakersfield and just started picking up running. Getting over using the gym and I was wondering if there are any tracks open to the public. Also any good running spots around Bakersfield 👍

I need some recommendations I’m having trouble with my maf sensor I think but not 100% if it’s that or throttle position sensor. Also need to do a transmission fluid change.

Fires.

I see the fire bugs out in force already. Too many to be normal fire starts. In my opinion.

Riviera/Westchester area?

I’ve been living in an apartment in the southwest and now have the opportunity to buy a condo. There aren’t many condos on this side of town, and I’m paying a huge price for location if I decide to purchase over here- if I can even get an offer in before they get eaten up. I also work in this area and am a younger female who walks my dog daily.

There’s a few awesome condos in the riviera/westchester neighborhood (across from the museum and by the river, next to golden state fwy) It’s also way bigger than a lot of the southwest options.

I’m super torn because I want to get the best value for my money but also love how safe I feel where I’m at. I’m not from Bakersfield so I still don’t know too much about location. I have a plan to live in this condo for the next 5-10 years and will have a child at some point so it’s just a really big decision and I don’t want to make the wrong one.

Found puppy

this puppy wondered onto my in laws yard looking for food/water. I have posted everywhere and checked for a chip but no interest. We cannot keep him much longer and really don’t want to take him to the shelter since they euthanize all the time: he’s a sweet sweet boy. anyone want to give him a good home?

Office or Gaming Chairs in Bako?

Can anyone recommend a place in Bako that allows you to sit-in and sample office chairs or gaming chairs? I want to buy a chair that I will sit in for hours during the day. After being completely disappointed by a Herman-Miller Aeron Chair (the chair of my dreams), I really need to be able to try it out first.

Where is Zack Scrivner?

Read on KGET that he is NOT in custody. And he hasn't resigned. The D.A. and Sherriffs dept are covering all this up. Any other child predator would have already had their day in court.

Resource to find Grave site

My friend passed last year and I know her funeral was at green lawn on river blvd. I went to visit her grave site once with a friend a year ago, and wanted to pay her a visit but I’m having difficulty remembering where exactly it is located. I have a general idea.

Tommy Ash

Does anyone have any information on Tommy Ash? He was a drummer in many of the bands that are known for the Bakersfield Sound including Merle Haggard and Tommy Hays.

With summer coming up, what are options for hosting a child's birthday party indoors?

A canopy and swamp cooler don't cut it when the temperatures reach three digits, and most homes can't comfortably fit 25+ guests. I know my options are Flight Adventure, Chuck E. Cheese's, John's Incredible Pizza and other places with activities if I want to limit it to a small group, or recreational centers around town like Silver Creek, MLK, or Riverlakes if I want like 50+ guests.

I wanted to get your input on what worked well for you to throw a summer party while keeping your guests out of the heat: where did you reserve your space? did it have A/C? did you have a small or large group? could you fit a bouncehouse or games inside the room you rented? was the price reasonable? did you have to get insurance for the rented space? were tables and chairs included?

Thanks in advance

Retro Bakersfield History Lesson #1

Retro Bakersfield History Lesson: At Sail Thru, the very real burger joint featured prominently in Meet Me at Jimmy’s Arcade, the sodas were served in milk carton type cups. The cartons were held together with plastic clips that people with sports carts, my dad included, would use as clips for their rear window louvers. My dad had these on the back of his hot red Camaro. We had a drawer full in the late 80s. A second restaurant was added to Sail Thru around 1987/88, called Taco Taco, and it was the coolest fast food place in town. Tacos and Burgers, together at one magical and gorgeously built white brick building with a big waterfall at the exterior entrance. It was located at 4675 Ming Ave, across from the popular music store The Warehouse. The beautiful architecture of Sail Thru / Taco Taco was demolished in the early 90s and replaced with a soulless Taco Bell 😞 Meet Me at Jimmy’s Arcade is available in digital formats and paperback on Amazon or wherever you buy books. ❤️

People that don’t take the shopping cart back are total AH’s but ones that leave it in a parking space are real dicks. I’m talking to you Ecolab.

Highland High School parents: STOP making U-turns or 3 point turns that stop traffic! If your car/truck can't make a quick U, don't keep doing it.

I started driving my "niece" to HHS a month ago. Every day there's at least 3 cars/trucks that turn around after dropping their kid off and block other cars while they make a U-turn or 3pt turn while others wait for them. I guess they don't want to drive around the school or wait in the line of cars getting on auburn? Feels like it's some of the same cars each day. Today I watched someone, who could have maybe made a U, stop like 6ft from the curb and block both sides with a 3pt turn.

If you're stopping traffic with your turn around:

  1. deal with it and drive around the school like the rest of us.
  2. drop your kid off further away where the street is wider/less busy

3)pull into the front parking lot and loop around
