For those not familiar, some RTS games have a counter system instead of being rock paper scissors like aoe3, units have a type of attack, for example piercing, slashing, blunt, explosive, fire, magic, etc. And each unit has different resitance for each attack type. Like one unit can have 40% piercing resitance, 20% explosive resistance, 100% magic resistance, etc.
Im just wondering if it would make the game better or worse. At least it would make the game more "logical" to understand, cause i dont see why a dragoon and a musketeer rifle shot should be different, or a guy with a sword and a guy with a sword on horseback should not have the same type of attack. Would it make the game easier to learn or make it too complicated ?
Hey guys. For a couple weeks now I cant hear any voice lines in the game. I mean the Dialogue or the narrator in the campaigns. I still hear the voice over when I select units. But I cant seem to get the dialogue to work. I've checked the Sound settings but they're no help at all since u can't even disable the dialogue specifically. I've also reinstalled the game and thrown out any Mods I tried to make sure they're not fucking with the settings in some way. Still cant fix it though.
TLDR: Good game, much greater potential.
Hello, guys.
I'm mainly an AoE2 player but I've played every other Age of Empires game of the franchise.
This week I was looking at steam charts and noticed that the Age of Mythology (AoM) playerbase started decreasing and eventually got lower than AoE3DE's player base on october 30th.
I was already bored of AoM meta: too defensive/boomy, few unit options to each civilization, repetitive, lazy counter system... So out of curiosity I went to check how AoE3DE was doing. To my surprise, I found the meta very diverse and the counter system better than in AoM. I do dislike many units for being goofy like chinese and indian units. But in general I'm enjoying watching pro games, specially when casted by lionheart.
I hope the developers see the potential of the game, since AoM is getting so much investment and still doesn't get a player base as high as AoE3.
I have suggestions for the game but it's not the objective of the post. Anyway, looking foward to the next patch and DLC.
Best advices for beginners?
Well. Before you ask, I had an experience with aoe 3 when I last played the complete edition in the period of 2018-2022. And the most difficult thing I managed to do was to win a 8 FFA match in the moderate difficulty with bots. But now as we know. The legacy edition is simply put, dead. And I have forgotten how to play the game entirely. So, as I'm talking to the experienced crew. Are there any guides that I need to watch? Can you recommend me some streamers? Or some advices in the replies? Or did they change the game in DE at all, besides adding new civs? And preferably. I would like advices for multilayer. Because I never managed to survive for more than 30 minutes, lol.
NOTE: I haven't bought the DE yet. So I can't tell if they changed it or not.
I played aoe2, 3 and aom as a kid (mosty single player and campaigns). I got back into rts with aoe4 and have been playing the ranked ladder for a year (1100ish elo) but aoe3's setting was always my favorite.
How's the aoe3 ranked ladder? Is there room for a noob or is it full of seasoned veterans who have been playing the game for 20 years? Is the meta complicated and difficult to learn? I don't want to invest time into it and learn a new meta just to realize I can't keep up.
I was in a FFA and was trying to finish off a Dutch civ player but his explorer kept on reviving at the spot he died by himself.
Is that possible? Was that a hack or a card?
Hi aoe 3 veteran here but I haven't played for a while and I'm not up to date with updates etc. I have all faction dlc so I can play anything.
I'm interested what are right now the best factions for normal and treaty modes and why.
You can also share build orders or strategies if you want because I haven't mastered all factions but I'm quite familiar how the game works as I've played for years.
Thanks
Hey! So I have been playing RTS on and off for a decade now, starting with sc2, then CoH2 and now Aoe4 and especially Aoe3. My friend is a huge strategy nerd and begs me to play competetive Aoe3 with him. The catch is: I am totally awful at RTS games. The kind of bad player that cant beat the hard A.I. and is easily rushed because I cant decide when to build armys and what a big enough army is to attack, not even speaking of my resource managment and army composition. So, that out of the way, do you have advice for me to get over my problems? Or do you know a good tutorial that could help me? Thanks in advance :)
I want to watch some AOE 3 games on Youtube from people who commentate the games. Ideally a range of competitions, silly community games, etc. I see loads of these for AOE 2 but am struggling to find any for AOE 3. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I usually play skirmish against the computer. I've been playing since the AOE I in the 90s but never really analyzed some details.
I'm having a hard time finding how much certain upgrades actually increase. For instance wood cutting upgrades for home city shipments. If each shipment increases a certain %, in theory couldn't you get multipliers when you stack these shipments? Also upgrades like stables increasing hit points for cavalry.
Can someone guide me to a page that has the actual formulas of this stuff.
Hi! I ran into a problem with a mod in AoE 3 DE, if anyone knows how to fix it that's great. This is Death Disk's "age of realism", it is supposed to increase the number of fort construction limits by 5 for all civilizations. The problem is that I play with the Maltese and with them the limit does not change. I tried other civilizations and it works, just the Maltese it doesn't work, as if there was a bug. No other mode active so it can't be a compatibility problem.
If anyone has ever encountered this problem...
Correction: DUTCH/japan
Need to beat my brothers, pride won’t let me play a different civ. What troops are my best options to counter Swiss/Japan. I usually run musks/falconets.
Both: they both typically harass with some cavs early game and then build into their strategies. They play a lot more than me and do change up their comps but these are their most typical.
Swedes comp: he almost always turtles and then bum rushes with tons of pikes. They just ignore my troops and go straight for my economy. Recently he’s been using like 10 grenadiers to get through walls quickly. I can’t seem to kill them quick enough to stop them.
Japan comp: daimyo, archers and flaming arrow artillery. He usually builds his economy and will make a few pushes early. But his main strategy is to build big pushes of archers/flaming arrows and chip away.
Thanks!
Preferably in written form. Nothing against podcasts or youtube videos, but I find it a lot easier to read a guide than listen or watch one.
Why do people think AOE 2 is better than AOE 3?
AOE 3 has far better graphics, has a much better campaign, has much more exciting fights (cannons FTW!), and IMO more interesting civs. So why do people think AOE 2 is better?
Can't we choose maps in ranked ladder? Why is that?
Ps: I'm new to the game.
I, along with many others greatly miss the old game. Is it at all possible to get the servers re-opened?
Is there a dollar amount or some other way to get them back up and running?
Hello! I struggling to find build orders and deck suggestions. I don't want any turtling or FF stuff. I wanna ruuuuush.
I main ottomans but will probably try portuguese and italians as well.
Where can I ask the devs to remove the bug where if you instruct e.g. a culverin to attack a falconet, and the falconet briefly goes to fog of war, the culverin just walks all the way to where the falconet was, i.e. to the enemy army's frontlines....
It feel ridiculous for it to be like this, or is there some weird game dynamics reason it has to be like this?
I feel like bank in the day there was an interactive chart which you could clearly see each Civ's building, units, etc. by Age.
Does this type of chart exist anywhere? Trying to brush up on game knowledge, especially after I got smoked by Jaegers by the Mexican civ?
Hey guys, I am new to this game. I mostly play portuguese and recently I heard that you weren’t supposed to place 10 villagers to mills and estates if you were to play any European civs. They say seven is the most efficient. Is it true for both estate and mills? Or they have different specific numbers? Thanks xx 😙
Hey guys I was wondering which land maps have the most resources food and gold wise. I don’t like starting the game with bonus starting resources so it is imported for me to there is lots of animal and gold mines nearby. I’d appreciate if you guys share your experience. ☺️☺️ xx
