I'm noticing I'm pretty garbage at watching the map since it's so far away from my eyes, is there any mods or something that work with ranked that people use?
Folks and foes!! Any advice why reinstalling AOE4 is stuck? Recently AOE4 stopped working and decided to reinstall it, but know it’s worst… Gamepass Account used where I bought the game is being used to download the app once more.
I've been a huge fan of AOE since part 1. I picked up AOE4 about a year ago but I never really got into it due to other games I was playing.
I recently, within the last 3 weeks, started really playing the game. At first, I liked the French and the JD civ. I then started doing a little bit of research and learned about build orders, which I never knew about, and how the civs work in general.
I decided to play with the Malins, something about their low pick and success rate appealed to me. I felt going against the grain and starting with a harder civ would be worth it.
I practiced my build order agaisnt the AI and then when I thought I was decent enough I tried ranked and I got destroyed the first four or so games. Now, I can defend myself to a point but eventually the other players get the upper hand. Out of 11 matches in ranked I've won zero. The lowest rated player is faced (I'm bronze 1, obviously) I think was Gold 1 and the hardest was Silver 3. I decided to switch to Quick Games this way I can get a better feel for PVP and I'm currently have 4 wins and 7 losses.
I'm starting to get a little frustrated. I realize that at a certain point in the ladder Malians aren't viable anymore, but I figured I can switch civs at that point, or just double down and try to get past that wall, but it's getting a little hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I really enjoy playing with Malians. I think I'm going to try more feudal aggression to see how that goes. I do harass with scouts but it may not be enough. I'm also going to make sure I memorize my build order so I don't bu for any steps.
Should I just switch civs now, though? I'm willing to put in the work to get better with this civ but will it be worth it is my question....I guess.
Note: I had no idea the Malians were bugged. Also, sorry for rambling.
Hello! Wanted to ask a question here since I know we’ve got some devs in the community + plenty of golds with opinions. What are peoples thoughts on adding diplomacy in FFA games? Or adding as an option when setting up/searching custom and ffa games? I’ve heard that this is a mechanic in aoe2, and would love to see it as an option in aoe4.
I’m not sure how aoe2 does it, but it would be cool to be able to temporarily add somebody as neutral so that your army doesn’t attack their’s (if temp teaming against a guy who goes wonder for example). Or adding someone as an ally and can see through ally’s fog of war. Or to setup trade. etc.
Do we know if they are considering adding this?

I know beasty has made a cataphract build order for Byzantines.
Please... i beg for your merciful understanding, don't nerf the keshiks to 440 olive oil, don't make catas more expensive or play with their attack speed, please don't neef landmarks...! I mean, Other civs have cool calvary too! Just look at french, japanese, Zhu Xi (?), or even abba with camel riders!! Incredibly strong .... I can make 7 build orders on each! (Beasty wouldn't)
It's such a good day to not nerf Byzantines again. Nerf them after the new DLC (only if i find a cooler civ, I don't want to return to English to be bullied on reddit)
I know that now beasty has made a video with "free win" in title. But that's only for clickbait, afterall he makes a living out of it. Beasty doesn't want to nerf byz, Beasty is a nice guy, so you are.
Note: you may Nerf byz after the new DLC (only if i find a cooler civ, I don't want to return to English to be bullied on reddit)

I used to main ayyubid, when I switched to abba it was like playing on ez mode. They nerfed ayyub to the grave for some reason, although its still a good civ, camel archers are better than desert raiders in my experience, and the rest is obvious abba just has the far superior eco. Does ayyub need a buff? Idk, my opinion could be skewed because I’m a team game player, the meta could be different in solo. I don’t use Jeanne and I don’t really use French but from what I know Jeanne is a crappy French with a hero unit that got nerfed as well into their watery grave. Seems like there’s almost no point to these civs anymore
You start with 5 vills, 28% gather rate and 40% extra carry capacity and slower production rate, while your opponent spawns with 6 normal vills. Do you consider this a better start or worse? Ive had this argument with my friends last night and curious to hear your thoughts. Do you think the early game is where youre stronger and your window to deal damage? Or you believe this to be a weakness as eco scales differently down the line and should rush relics / tech?

Is wednesday smurf day ? or is it thursday ? appears to be everyday.
Smurfs are possible because steam allows multiple accounts and it is really an issue for people trying hard to improve but losing all their points to smurf accounts. This makes the game much less enjoyable. It is an issue that needs to be addressed.
It rises multiple points :
- why smurf accounts ? because people dodge games when they think they won't win, conq players can wait dozen of minutes before playing.
- why people dodge games ? because they dont want to lose their points hardly won, and the matchmaking is quite often very poor, you can face better players, win and get 19 points, you can also lose vs the same and 25 points would be retrieved as if the teams were equal.
- why points are hardly won ? because of conq3 250 apm+ smurf accounts at bronze level making life hard for platine and diamonds and so.
How to solve ?
- steam needs to restrict to 1 account
- steam needs to put in place bonus points when not playing, in the same way Starcraft 2 had this implemented. People would lose their bonus points first and not their real points. This gives latitute.
Playing vs much easier level is like cheating as you get undeserved extra points, and you destroy their joy of playing. It's like using maphack and it sucks real hard.
my last 2 games. The 8 last games were like this. I can go on and on.
Tried alot of them. Just dipped my toes into multiplayer for real a while ago. I have a hard time sticking to one. What made a civ click for you?

I’m just someone who plays Ottomans. So I have a lots of ideas. I’m not saying that all of my ideas should be added to the game. I believe that some of my ideas will make Ottomans better. I’ll share a few bugs at the end. MAKE OTTOMAN GREAT AGAIN
First of all, People think that after the nerf to military school, civilization is bad. In fact, civilization is dead after the nerf to Imperial Council. Exactly in this patch.

Imperial Council:
Tier 1-> “Mehter Drums” Mehter needs to give his movement speed buff to the area, not to the same formation.
In addition, I want to Mehter always be positioned in the exact center of the entire army and Please fix the movement problems.
Tier 2-> “Military Campus” In addition, may give one military school for free. Or may give a discount to the next military schools.
Tier 2-> “Timariots” Rename the Cavalry Archer to “Akinci” or “Timariot”. Make it fully available from the Feudal Age onwards. Delete this useless Vizier point. Please bring something else that is more functional.
Tier 2-> “Extensive Fortifications” Can be placed at tier 4. You can’t get it before Burgrave Rush anyway.
Tier 4-> “Siege Crews” It should have a direct effect without requiring a garrison. If it is +25% OP, it can be changed.
Tier 4-> “Trade Bags” Can be placed at tier 2. I miss Feudal Trade Ottomans.
Landmarks:
Istanbul Imperial Palace- It should be universal aura instead of ranged aura effect.
Mehmed Imperial Armory- Battering Ram’s base training time needs to be reduced to 60 seconds.
Military School Pricing:
In my opinion, making military schools cheaper would solve the problem. There is currently a feature that makes military and technological buildings cheaper as a civ feature. However, this feature does not affect military schools. If it does affect military schools, the price will be 100 wood and 67 stone.
Military Inducement: Military and Technology buildings are 33% cheaper.
Or they can make price changes specifically for military schools. They can change the pricing from cheap to expensive. Byzantine’s cistern pricing would be a good example of this.
Military School Ticket System:
Actually, the Ottomans needs radical changes. Maybe the ticket system would be a good change for Military Schools. I can give an example of this as Tanegashima Gunsmith in Japan. This system will allow us to produce tickets instead of units. In other words, instead of producing 3 spearmen from the Dark Age to the Feudal Age, it will produce 6 tickets. When you enter the Feudal Age, you can buy 1 Sipahi by spending 4 tickets. This will give the Ottomans a great tempo. We can accept the XP values in the Imperial Council as the basis for pricing. In addition, military schools can have a setting where they can continue production continuously, as they are now. An upper ticket limit can be considered against accumulating tickets and suddenly producing a lot of units.
Miscellaneous Ottoman Bugs:
Twin Minaret Medrese is not selected as a mill in the keyboard shortcut.
Extensive Fortifications;
->Extensive Fortifications do not refund resources if you take the Vizier point while there are defensive buildings deployed but not constructed.
->Currently, Stone Wall Towers do not get the 20% discount, despite being defensive buildings.
->Extensive Fortifications doesn’t affect Sea Gate Castle garrison arrows.
Sea Gate Castle’s Trade Protection ability bonus is maintained for 20 seconds after leaving the aura. It actually maintained for 15 seconds after leaving the aura.
A Grand Galley that acts as a military school can’t delete units in its production queue. Also can’t delete garrison units.
Do you have the same issue? I have matches against 150-300 mmr higher players (I even got matched with 450 mmr differrent player as well). And I dont even speak about smurf.
Just want to have a good more or less balanced fights with fellow dia players.

I'm trying to learn my way around ayyubid and it felt good eco wise, but I get butchered using desert raiders. What comp should I aim for if I want to fight in feudal and then what should I transition for in castle?
In my last game my opponent, playing Abassid, used horseman + spearman. I understand I should use melee vs horseman and archer vs spearman....but dude, microing this felt a bit overwhelming for me. I lost lots of units here and couldn't harass much... I went castle got relics, and tried to spam MAA but he attacked me before I could have a significant mass and I died before I could use all my resources. If I hadn't lost my army before, I could defend and have enough time. I had 3k good and 1k gold in bank.
What comps should I use for desert raiders vs each comp for feudal and castle?
The dude just turtled into imperial, no way to harass their villager or push then just flattened me with longbowman/xbow/maa/bombard combo.
What do you do againts this? Musofadi and sofa can't anywhere near the deathball, mangonel can't perform with the bombards. Without the musofadi, the maa destroy everything
All my opponent said is to push sooner, ignoring the fact that they turtled up with keeps and walls. All you can do is boom in that situation
i have lost an incredible ffa where i had like twice (350 pop) his army the whole time, max imp upgrades, mass maa cross springalds canons, the bees just dont die they tank so much, it s just a pure massacre, even canons like its useless they dont make much damage, and anyway he could also snipe em, there is no antisiege as english vs bees, or i dont know maybe i'm wrong but i really feel its op with big armies, dont even need rams or canon to kill castles just a click with bees and fire lancers...

I absolutely hate it when i as a dented gold player have to click a tiny tree to get my villies where they need to chop, can it be more automatic?

Spears are the best way to defend against french knight rush, but how exactly is the best way to utilize the spears?
For example when defending gold, should i make them patrol or stand still (V key)? If the spear can absorb the Knight's charge, is that exclusively for stand still or also for patrol? If they patrol do they return to their place after losing the knight in a chase?
What is the charge absorption radius??
I have this issue with french knights alllllll the time, i just can't keep with the way they raid from all places at once, towers and walls can't keep up. Any kind of advice or enlightenment is welcomed!
IMO there is 1 civ that needs some slight nerfs for team games, you probably can guess which one. Abbasid, Abbasid is by far the worst offender in team games with it almost being a hard requirement to have.
Really the thing that is most overtuned with Abbasid is there damn camel archers, they have too few counters while being able to harass really well and fight toe-to-toe with almost all units. The changes I’d want to see are:
Remove their bonus damage to handcanoneers and possibly spears too. No other ranged Calvary unit has these bonuses so why should the camel archer? Abbasid already has good archers that counter those units very well.
The only other thing I’d like to see changed for Abbasid is the camel movement speed, kind of crazy that a camel can outrun a horse, camels have great endurance but are much slower in a short distance race than a horse. This should also better allow horsemen to deal with them.
Overall both of these changes should add more counters to Camel Archers other than just archers.
Now I’m not sure how much these changes would affect 1v1 which is the main driver for balance changes, as it should be, so I’d be curious to see what the duelists think about this nerf to camel archers. I wouldn’t hate giving Abbasid some form of buffs to offset these nerfs, but I’m not too sure what those buffs could be.
