I'm coming to the end of a smut piece and I'm just getting all this doubt while editing because I'm usually a fade to black kind of writer. I am in awe of folks who write smut and decided to give it a go. Now, the internet has taught me I've never had a unique experience ever so I just want to check that there are people who get nervous before posting about smut out there, right? Like nervous there's too much detail or not enough or just cringey/clunky wording.

(Not sure if this question or discussion territory, I just need to interact with others lol)

I have a few friends who also write and we all have differing answers on this. Some say hell yes they do and others say that they hate reading it back. What about you?

Okay so this is the first year I’ve wanted to try out a daily prompt challenge. I know that during October there’s so many prompt lists for fanart and fanfics that come out yearly, but I’ve only ever seen any for fluff and smut, not angst. Are there any lists of prompts for this year for angst fics/oneshots? Or does that genera not have a yearly list, or an “official” list at all?

If anyone has any lists I’d love to check them out so I can participate in this this year.

I’m finally off the waitlist for AO3! While I’ve read fanfics on AO3 before, I’ve never actually used any of the advanced features (besides the advanced search),so what should I do first (besides posting a fanfic - I’ll do that once I’ve written one)? Anything important I should know about AO3?

hi! so i’m reading this fic that’s around 46k. the plot is super interesting and the characters as well. only problem is the author only uses the words: asks and says when it comes to dialogue. i’m in doubt if i should continue reading it even though it’s constant repetition or if i should just leave it be, move on to something else lmfao. idk help me out. this post is so stupid but yeah idk 😭😭

Today's the first time I actually used the AO3 report/abuse system, which I learned is at the bottom of the page, at least on desktop version. I've heard people talk about reporting AO3 works that are obviously not a fanfiction, or a placeholder "I will update this page in a week lol" etc but never reported that stuff myself.

Long story short, in my fandom a hugely popular character has seemingly been killed off which is causing a huge uproar/lots of social media posts crying, complaining, joking, theorizing etc about it. And also there's now "fics" in the fandom's AO3 section which are nothing but 2 million words or more of "X WILL DIE" or "X WILL LIVE" etc. One of them was fucking TEN MILLION WORDS.

So I decided to submit an abuse report. I successfully reported one of them, but when I finished the second one I got an error message saying "this page has already been reported, ao3 volunteers only need 1 report to investigate. Please do not submit another report."

It surprised me, I just didn't realize it worked like that. So if someone says they reported a story, there's no use in me doing the same to "help out." Wanted to spread the news, I guess. AO3 makes sure reports like that don't clog up their own inboxes either. So I got to report one of the "stories" first, but someone else beat me to the second one! I'm happy about it.

The hardest part of writing a historical AU is trying to make everything actually accurate. For example, I'm writing a royalty AU set in the 1300s. However, the main character has a dog in canon (who I refuse to not have exist in this AU). But, the breed of his dog didn't exist in the 1300s, so I had to do research into the breed's ancestors that did exist at that time period, and then pick the one I felt seemed most like the modern equivalent. Trying to find the right dog breed and which countries/kingdoms/empires had trade relations at the time is taking more time than writing. Anyone else experience this? Do any other AUs require way more research than you thought?

My two usual commenters haven’t commented on this chapter and I’m just a little anxious that I’m not doing this story justice. Sometimes I feel like im just not hitting the mark, I know that I am getting kudos and have gotten a lot of comments. This is just basically my first real fic and I’m out of practice with writing so I’m kinda losing my mind bc I feel like it’s not good. :((

On my main account, one of my series blew up and I gained a pretty dedicated following. Unfortunately, I started feeling bad about my engagement if I wasn’t getting bunches of kudos and hits and comments like I’d gotten used to (entitled, I know). It was making me feel like my work wasn’t good enough.

Now that I’ve been posting on a second account, I feel free. I’m not getting the engagement my main gets, but I kind of love it. I’m writing stuff I’ve always wanted to write but would have been nervous to post on my main and it’s making me feel invigorated and excited to write again.

I know engagement is validating, and I’m grateful for what I get, but posting to the void feels good. I feel like I can write for me again, and to me that’s reason to celebrate!

Pretty much the title. I'm currently editing my WIP and realized that while some chapters (not very many) have landed at about 4kish words, most of them are between 6k and 8k. Is that too long for single chapters? Or will readers enjoy the lengthy updates?

in this fic, true mates exist. you know this rule that they should mate as soon as possible. there is a conflict here. i believe the 100 came down on the day of Lexa and Costia's bonding ceremony. there are sooo many different parts here. echo is one of Lexa's personal guards. emori is a flamekeeper in training. echo and emori are costia's best friends. costia is indra's daughter. i believe when the 100 went outside of the dropship there was a lot of CHAOS. lexa, anya, lincoln, echo and emori all went into frenzy.
