There are probably better solutions over this antiquated system, but for me it doesn't get any better. I don't see myself moving away from it any time soon. Everything is so simple and intuitive. Must have created hundreds of animations with it by now.
CAT has nothing on Biped.
Hello fellow modelers,
It's been a while since I've worked with machine parts / hard surfaces, and I'm finding an issue that I've faced in the past, but I cannot remember how to sort out.
The issue is that upon exporting my model, and importing into another software (Mudbox or any other), it's being displayed with as if it was organic somehow (trying to smooth?).
In Edit Poly I've assigned the faces to 2 groups: side loops and front plane faces. In Max it shows good, but nowhere else.
I've tried with Weighted Normals (as I've remembered it sometimes helped) but I'm still getting this issue.
Does anyone know what is it related?
Thanks in advance!
On the left: Max. On the right, Mudbox and any other program.
I’d love some feedback on my project! If you have a moment, please check it out here: Hat Hanger on Thangs. Thanks!
I am asking for a friend using Vray 6 in 3dsmax.
Has anyone experienced anything similar? What could be the issue?
Strangely an interior archviz view hangs the PC but an exterior larger view full of trees and plants renders properly. If it was a memory issue wouldn't the exterior and larger image hanging the PC be the more probable scenario?
The same view has rendered properly until yesterday with more objects in it and no changes.
Tried checking memory use, it was within limits, storage has plenty of space too.
Sadly, they can't share any images from the project. Any ideas?
I set a UVW Map to my object but it doesn't affect the render, only the viewport. Anyone know how to fix this?
Hello, I've imported models from a game into 3DSMax, but I can't get my models to look like how it does in this other user's screenshot. Is there a plugin or some settings I'm missing so I can view the mesh and bones overlayed with each other and is shaded like it is in the screenshot?
second screenshot is how it appears for me, first screenshot how want it to appear
I don’t want to switch to blender. I admire it but i love 3ds max it just needs a few plugins to be top tier. My question is I saw blender has like an internal asset database you can add to and pull parts from when modeling. Does 3ds max have the ability to do that native. Like could I just drop files in there and pull when I need for creation like unreal engine as well?
If not I think this would be a cool plugin to create instead of importing all the objects I need when I just want a piece of a model?
Thanks 🙏 Let’s put 3DS back on top 🦾
why reflection glossiness is not visible in viewport and render both i am using 3ds max 2024 and v-ray 6 i have assigned material to the object i have also tried show shaded material is viewport and shaded material with map
This might be a simple move for some of you but i have edges i want to rotate around their own midpoint instead of the selection. is there a way to do this?
Hi!
I'm a beginner student to 3ds max and am having a bit of trouble rigging this car for animation.
The body of the car is grouped and the wheels are linked to the body - when the body moves so does the wheels. The wheels just aren't rotating.
The wire parameter function isn't working. Once connected, the wheel gets sent to somewhere random on the document and does not rotate. Pls help!
Im kinda new in learning the software and im exploring, but have you guys tried importing asset from FAB to 3ds max? is it normal to get a model that has no texture? Like this in the photo? or should i download the quixel bridge?
Youtube videos are also welcome, but I would like to know your approach! Superstructures and substructures, ect.
I am trying to figure out where the parameters summary in the rendering pop up thingy is. I just get the total animation and current task bar with nothing else. Normally it tells you stuff like time remaining or last frame time. I can't expand it down and at the end of a render it disappears so I can't even wait for the render to be done so I can mess with it because it freezes everything in max while it is running. I don't really know what it is called so I can do some research and figure out if I made it that way.
If I set up a render I would like to know if I can just go make a sandwich or do yoga or take a nap while the machine is working.
Even just the name of what that box is would help.
Thanks and be fun.
Hi,
In a previous post I said something along the lines of "you only need a good hdri and a good car model to make a realistic render with Corona" and just to see how simple as it is to create a decent base render, I put together this scene in about 30 minutes with the first free assets I could find. 15 minutes for some car materials and rest for the effects and render. Everything is straight from the Corona frame buffer. I'm not really experienced in automotive renders nor do I like cars but it was fun to play around.
Point is, modern render engines, especially Corona, is so straightforward, most of the time we only need to find decent assets and exposure to have a good base. That is, as long as you know what you want to achieve. Finding good assets and good references is everything.
All assets used are linked in the comments. Please share if you have tips to make it realistic so maybe it would be helpful for me and others as well.
Note: Smoke, motion, etc is fake. Nothing is rigged.
Edit: Added viewport screenshot.
Hi, I'm looking for an extensive and well explained tutorial on vehicle rendering in 3DSMAX, it can be Vray or Corona, or maybe another software that gives realistic results. There are tutorials on YouTube, but they are incomplete and not very explanatory and they don't have very good results. I understand that the best combination is 3dsmax and corona. I don't care if it's paid, thanks!
I am not sure where to start learning this program, and where to go next, the 3ds max learning channel feels out dated for begineers.
