Skin care is a pretty big deal, and we love subs like /r/SkinCareAddiction, however we felt there needed to be a sub that deals specifically with skin that's over 30. Share your questions, frustrations and triumphs!

Some basic rules:

  1. Please don't post here if you aren't yet 30 - we will be removing posts from people under 30. r/SkincareAddiction has a fantastic list of the other subs on Reddit where you will be talking to your peers: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/related_subs

  2. We can't (and don't) offer medical advice. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns about your health. Your post will be removed for asking about medical conditions (for example: a photo and "What is this?)

  3. No spam, self-promotion, direct product links or consumer surveys! If you would like to recommend a product, you may link it within a text post. Also, do not self-promote your app, blog, you tube reviews, cosmetic services etc. Please don't use this group for surveys or consumer research. If you are doing academic research and would like to ask for permission to post about your study, YOU MUST contact the moderation team before doing so.

  4. Discussion of cosmetic surgeries / enhancements / treatments is totally cool here.

  5. Selfies are not allowed EXCEPT on Selfie Sundays. If you are posting to ask questions about a particular area of your face, you must edit your photo so it is clear what you are concerned about, either by cropping the photo or by blocking out features you are NOT asking about.

  6. Be nice. Constructive criticism is cool, but acting like an ass is not. And do NOT post things like "How old do you think I look / am" as that never goes well.

  7. If you are shilling for a MLM company, you will be banned. Please see r/antiMLM if you want to know why.

  8. Wear sunscreen.

We recommend checking out the sidebar over at /r/SkincareAddiction for a comprehensive list of skincare FAQs, tutorials, and their excellent skincare Wiki. The folks at ScA have put in a ton of time and effort into their resources, so take advantage of them!

Tipping for facial

My facialist in NYC has her own studio and works alone. The facials are 145 + any added treatments. Should I be tipping on top of this? Since she is the owner I have gotten mixed reviews.

Super simple pregnancy routine

I’m pregnant with my 2nd (still in the first trimester) but I’m in need of a SUPER simple routine with 1-2 steps at night. Between chasing after a toddler and the normal 1st trimester woes, I am just so tired by the time I start to wind down for the day, I can barely get through the basics of self hygiene. I had bad melasma during my first pregnancy and tend to have dry skin. Which product(s) offer the most bang for your buck?

I have a red light mask I need to start using again (once the nausea and fatigue go away, whenever that is). I got the positive test literally the day before I was going to get Botox for the first time since before my first pregnancy, so any anti aging is appreciated too. Thank you!

Best “luxury” moisturizer for dry skin?

Hello! I received some money for Christmas and would like to treat myself to a nice, luxury moisturizer for my dry skin.

I’ve sampled Tata Harper and Elemis at duty free and love the supple texture/viscosity that just feels so much creamier than my daily Aveeno moisturizer. But when I look these brands up on Reddit they are not highly recommended? Quite a few comments about how they are “overpriced” but with no alternates suggested

So what do you think, what luxury face moisturizer is good for dry, sensitive skin?

Fitzpatrick 6 melasma?

Hello fellow estheticians! I have a male client who has what looks like hyperpigmentation beneath his beard in both sides of the face. When he shaves you can see it a lot more but in this photo his beard has grown in a bit so it appears a bit softened in this photo. Does anyone have experience treating this? Thank you in advance for any tips / guidance

Beef tallow

Hey so I have had dry red patches around my nose my whole life. It’s a constant battle to keep it moisturized. I found dermologica moisture barrier lotion to be the best!! But man the price point is high. I decided to try a beef tallow product. It contains tallow, honey, olive oil and beeswax. And my skin feels amazing. The red patches are gone. Skin is soft and smooth. It’s even lightened a red mark i had for a couple weeks (lingering pimple scar) anyway. In case you’re on the fence about trying tallow I recommend it!

Cerave vitamin C serum

Korean Relief Sun SPF 50

Cerave moisturizing cream

PM routine:

Wash face with Lanolin Agg Tval (egg white soap)

What was your experince. Is it worth the purchase?

Newbie

Hello everyone-Newbie here.

So I have PCOS and Eczema and haven't had a serious acne breakout since high school/early 20s (now mid 30s). Back then I just used ProActive and it would clear up after a few weeks (always had extremely dry school and large pores). So for my current breakout that has lasted for the last couple months I finally decided to reach out to my primary doctor and was prescribed the following which arrive this weekend:

Benzoyl Peroxide: (They said to use over the counter and recommend CeraVe Acne Cream Cleanser)

Tretinoin (topical Retinoid)

Clindamycin Solution (topical antibiotic)

Then recommended CeraVe AM and PM moisturizers due to the above medications could cause sun sensitivity and dry skin.

Additionally

I received a facial for Christmas that was absolutely amazing and put great moisture in my skin. The esthetician informed me my skin barrier was damaged and recommended the products she used on my face for continued use which were:

iS Clinical Hydra-Cool Serum and iS Clinical ProHeal Serum.

Then I also have the following that I started a couple weeks ago which is ProActiveMD and Hero Pore Release ( 2% Salicyllic Acid).

So my ultimate question is which ones to use during the day and/or night and in what order. Thank you

Eye Cream Tightening

Looking for an eye cream recommendation! I feel like the skin under my eyes is getting looser with age. I don’t have bags but would like it to be a little tighter and a little less of the “tired mom” look. Any recommendations? Not expecting a miracle and I’m willing to spend up to 100.

Paula’s Choice - Retinol + BHA bad choice?

I’m pretty new to actives but after some research I’ve settled on Paula’s Choice. I bought the two on the left, not realising that I’ve hit the spend limit and got a free BHA exfoliant too - yay 🎉

I know it’s bad to combine acids and retinols on the same day, so what’s your routine? Would love to know how long you have used actives for and results you’ve seen.

Further context- I have dark under eye circles and am developing forehead wrinkles. Skin is sensitive and eczema prone so a bit scared about the BHA.

Salicylic - Azeliac - Retinol combo?

Hi, I had issues about a year ago with ruining my skin barrier from using adapelene. I spent a long time in 2024 trying to build that back up using gentle cleaners and moisturisers etc and it really worked. In recent months I have begun getting acne again so have re-introduced some stronger ingredients with the following evening routine:

  • Gentle cleaners - Avene/La Roche Posay Toleraine

  • Benzoyl Peroxide facewash 4% (find this is good to use daily rather than the 10% one)

  • Bioderma Micellar

  • Paula’s Choice salicylic

  • Paula’s Choice azeliac

  • A313 every so often (but wondering if I can build up to more often - 3 times a week maybe?)

  • Gentle moisturiser - I find centella ones very gentle but moisturising.

This routine seems to be working, just wondering if the Salicylic - Azeliac - Retinol combo might be too much and I’m risking messing up my barrier again though?! I mean, it all seems to be so far so good, just worried after last time and it taking so long to get to a good place again 😫.

What are people’s thoughts? Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks!

How do you think the growing trend of herbal skincare is influencing the beauty industry, and where do you see it heading?

This suddenly struck my mind and i thought it is worth getting opinions of others, what do you think?

You people are life savers!

4 days ago I posted the picture on the left my bf tried to get out a deep blackhead and took off so much skin. A lot of people suggested the cicaplast by lrp and it has helped extremely well! I think there will be minimal scaring. Thank you reddit 🥰

Help with fine lines, acne, bumps, etc

Thank you in advance! Really appreciate this sub and have learned about a lot of product through here. I’m in my mid to late thirties. I had terrible cystic acne after stopping birth control in my late 20s. Hardly had acne before BC. Used to see a regular esthetician who helped me get my acne under control. She moved out of the country and I haven’t seen someone since, used to buy a lot of product through her too. My acne is a night and day difference from what it is now, although I would love it to be gone all together. I’ve used Differin before, it wrecked my skin. Prescribed by dermatologist, but got off it with advice from esthetician. I would say my skin is on the drier side. In this photo I am wearing moisturizer.

Ideally, looking to reduce acne and also help with fine lines (11s and on forehead) I also get these bumps on my forehead I don’t think they are acne they are just sort of hard under the skin?

Current routine Morning

  1. CeraVe foaming cleanser or acne foaming cleanser 4% benzoyl peroxide
  2. The ordinary niacinamide + zinc
  3. The Good Molecule hyaluronic acid serum
  4. CeraVe AM facial moisturizing lotion spf 30
  5. Sometimes bare minerals tinted moisturizer or tarte’s bb cream

Evening

  1. Man:yo pure cleansing oil (use if I wore tinted moisturizers or foundation)
  2. CeraVe foaming cleanser

I switch between these routines throughout the week after cleansing 3. Red and blue light therapy with a revive light therapy wand 4. The ordinary rosehip oil or first aid beauty ultra repair collagen cream Or 3. Mandelic acid and rice bran serum Or 3. Beekman 1802 Bakuchoil 4. The ordinary rosehip oil

Has anyone tried the Caudalie Resveratrol Lift serum ?

I've been eyeing the Caudalie Resveratrol Lift serum for quite a while now but sill hesitant to buy as it is quite pricey. I've seen a lot o review videos but most of them seem to be sponsored ads and I would like to hear some real reviews before investing so much money into one product! Thanks

Omnilux infrared light

Can you see the infrared lights on your Omnilux with your phone? I read someone say they could see half their lights were out with their phone. I'm able to see other infrared lights(on remotes) with my phone but I see nothing on my mask.

35 and virtually no routine!

Hey folks,

Kind of embarrassing but like the post says... I'm 35 and for the past 2 years I've been traveling out of my van and working around Australia. I basically have zero routine.

Morning:
wash with cetaphil + moisturize with Moisturiser Sunscreen SPF 50+
(https://www.coles.com.au/product/cancer-council-daily-moisturiser-sunscreen-spf-50+-150ml-3816310)

Night: ... same, the moisturizer sunscreen because i just dont have another product atm

I have fairly sensitive skin and previously when I found something that ~worked I kept using it but ofc this went out the window with traveling so much. I'm not a 10-step skincare girlie!
I don't wear makeup at all aside from the occasional brow fill in. Sometimes I use facial wipes in lieu of washing if needed (usually if i'm stealth camping) I'm wanting to take better care of my skin and develop SOME kind of routine now that Im about 50/50 living out of the van. My skin is generally good aside from hormonal acne from my period & sometimes working/sweating my glasses will create an irritation where they meet the skin - I'll usually use pimple patches to stop this.

I'd love to incorporate retinol because I find myself noticing my smile lines more often & am worried about neck wrinkles as I age. I also spend HEAPS of time outside (often i'm working 8-10 hours a day in the sun!) and would love to find a SPRAY sunscreen for my face so I don't have to touch it - construction is MESSY y'all.

Thanks in advance !!!!!kkk

Vitamin e for under eyes

I recently came across a TikTok of a woman using vitamin E capsules for her under eyes, and I used them and woke up with very red eyes and itchy. I was wondering if anybody had any experience like this or if I’m using them wrong? It may be too high a concentrate I don’t know.
