Skin care is a pretty big deal, and we love subs like /r/SkinCareAddiction, however we felt there needed to be a sub that deals specifically with skin that's over 30. Share your questions, frustrations and triumphs!
Some basic rules:
Please don't post here if you aren't yet 30 - we will be removing posts from people under 30. r/SkincareAddiction has a fantastic list of the other subs on Reddit where you will be talking to your peers: https://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/wiki/related_subs
We can't (and don't) offer medical advice. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns about your health. Your post will be removed for asking about medical conditions (for example: a photo and "What is this?)
No spam, self-promotion, direct product links or consumer surveys! If you would like to recommend a product, you may link it within a text post. Also, do not self-promote your app, blog, you tube reviews, cosmetic services etc. Please don't use this group for surveys or consumer research. If you are doing academic research and would like to ask for permission to post about your study, YOU MUST contact the moderation team before doing so.
Discussion of cosmetic surgeries / enhancements / treatments is totally cool here.
Selfies are not allowed EXCEPT on Selfie Sundays. If you are posting to ask questions about a particular area of your face, you must edit your photo so it is clear what you are concerned about, either by cropping the photo or by blocking out features you are NOT asking about.
Be nice. Constructive criticism is cool, but acting like an ass is not. And do NOT post things like "How old do you think I look / am" as that never goes well.
If you are shilling for a MLM company, you will be banned. Please see r/antiMLM if you want to know why.
We recommend checking out the sidebar over at /r/SkincareAddiction for a comprehensive list of skincare FAQs, tutorials, and their excellent skincare Wiki. The folks at ScA have put in a ton of time and effort into their resources, so take advantage of them!

Hello! I’m 28F, turning 29 soon. I’ve never had filler, Botox, laser, etc and would like to avoid it as long as possible. I’m genetically predisposed to having loads of wrinkles (my mom side). I don’t have any yet but I’d like to start a skincare routine that helps me to take care of my skin the best way. I don’t have any skin disease.
I have a combination skin, slightly on a dry side in winter. No acne problem. Pores and black heads are stubborn and persistent. Up until now I’ve been using simple brand like Nivea, Clinique for moisturizing never used anything else than an eye cream and facial cream. And SPF of course.
Help me please 💓
What has been effective to some degree so far:
Things I’m not willing to try because I done believe the long term effects are not worth the short term benefits:
I have melanoma and this seems to be the safest option
My holy grail is a few drops of argan oil to seal everything in after my skin care routine. Bottle is coming up on empty. I've been contemplating buying a large bottle of argan oil, sweet almond and jojoba oil. Does anyone here use any of these oils and have recs? I always seek cold pressed organic oils.
Edit: Misspelled argan in the title lol
I've been using Maelove's vitc serum for a while now, I typically buy from Amazon although I have bought direct from Maelove before as well. Each time ive got it in the past it's been some shade of orange, ranging from quite pale to medium orange. It gets darker as I use it obv.
This most recent delivery is completely clear, no pigment whatsoever, although it has a similar texture to previous batches.
Can I assume that it's missing the vitc??? I thought that's what makes it orange...
This started a few weeks ago and getting worse. Any ideas what’s happening?
Just about a month ago, my skin was plump, nasolabial folds were barely visible and I was my usual round face, big cheeked self. Now, it's like they appeared over night. I only lost a bit of weight, but I do have to mention that stress was indeed at a higher level than usual and while I did get some sleep, it was probably not enough. I just turned 30 a few months ago, can I reverse this at least partially or even improve it? I was so not ready for the gut punch feeling of no longer recognizing my face in the mirror, I don't even feel like myself anymore since.
For the first time in 10+ years I'm getting big painful pimples on my forehead and cheeks. I've got 3 pimple patches on right now, trying so hard not to squeeze these ugly bastards anymore. I usually just get blackheads and a few monthly cystic pimples on my chin.
I have no idea what's causing them! Hair conditioner? Daily sunscreen use? The makeup I wore on Halloween? Some diet or supplement change?
It makes me so mad!
Other than stripping back your skin care to old standbys, what do you do when you get mystery breakouts?
I'm late 30's/early 40's. My "routine" is basically washing my face in the shower, motioning after. I have an overnight serum I sometimes throw on my face before bed but not with any consistency. I'm trying to give a more dedicated focus to my skin care but there are SO many products, reviews, routines, etc. I have no idea where to even start figuring it out.
What I'm looking for is some key product types I should be using.
My skin:
Oily t-zone, dry cheeks.
Redness on cheeks (front part of my face).
Darkness, but no bags, under eye.
Overall dull skin.
Forehead/11 lines.
A sun spot that just developed.
I'm sure if you don't take care of your skin they will. Still I'm not sure what the odds of reappearance are . If you got them removed I'm sure you'd be extra careful to make sure they don't reappear.
I keep hearing about this brand. Is it worth the hype? Pros and cons? What product has worked and what ones haven't?
I just turned 32. I have kp, but outside my normal few spots of hormonal acne before my period and occasional regular acne, I've never had a breakout like this before including when I was a teenager. It looks similar on the other side of my face and some of it is cystic and painful. It goes up beside my nose too.
It started about 2 months ago and has been slowly getting worse and worse. I haven't changed anything about my life recently. I've been drinking more water and eating better actually. My skincare routine is the same as its been for at least a couple years. I'm not pregnant. I'm healthy. I change my pillowcase regularly, and my laundry detergent is the same as always. I wash my clothes after every wash. I use a clean laundered face cloth to dry my face every time after a shower or face wash. I haven't gotten off or on any new meds. I am a bit more stressed in the last couple months than normal, but there's only so much I can do about that.
It is really not fair that I have to treat wrinkles at the same time as treating teenage worthy acne.
I have started getting these bumps on my cheeks that can’t be popped. Only blood comes out. And they don’t go away either.
I only use niacinamid in the morning with sunscreen. Ceramides cleanser in the shower. And hyaluron acid in the evening with a moisturizer. I don’t use any actives.
How can I get these bumps away? Any advice is much appreciated 🙏🏼
Hey - Can anyone recommend a moisturizer or belly balm or oil they liked a lot for pregnant women? I read that there is not a lot that can be done with regards to preventing stretch marks, unfortunately, but I'm 16 weeks and my skin is already starting to feel very tight in that area as it's growing. I also have always had dry skin, so I need a good moisturizer regardless. Thank you in advance!
So I just got off accutane about a month ago (i had severe cystic acne) and now that battle is done and I reacted well to it now all I have is all this red blotchy patchy acne scar texture that I don't even know where to begin or how to treat....what treatment should I do to help minimize the rough redness and texture?
Ps it's definitely alot better than before but I'm still super insecure about it. In everyday life it looks very aggressive to me whenever I look in the mirror 😭.
This is just one side it looks very noticeable harsh face to face.
What are your Holy Grail eyecreams/serums and why, what difference have you noticed.
Ive never found something that wows me.
My concerns are, dark circles, sometimes puffy, too much smiling haha. But my main goal is to keep the skin healthy. Im approaching 40. I won't use retinol around my eyes.
I am looking for help and insight if anyone has an idea! I’ve added a few new products into my routine over the past few months with good results (skin healthy, hydrated, clear, minimal redness) and suddenly over the past few days it has become irritated, inflamed, and feels very dry. I am wondering if my order of products or the ingredients in some are causing this or if I need to just eliminate the new products and see if my skin improves.
My routine:
Night
1.Leaders Insolution Calming clear micellar cleansing balm
3X per week I use T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum (just worked up to this frequency)
2X per week I use just my regular moisturizer IT cosmetics confidence in a cream
1X I use nothing
Morning
4.ROC retinol correction deep wrinkle around eyes 5. It Cosmetics confidence in a cream 6. Black girl sunscreen SPF 30
Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions!!
Perhaps due to eczema or diet, pls help!
Hello! I have an appointment with my medical aesthetician next week. She is recommending micro-needling and a chemical peel at the same time. I’ve never had either previously, and I have quite sensitive skin.
I’m considering both, but am not sure if I want both done at the same time… I think I’d be more comfortable doing them separately and seeing how my skin tolerates it.
I suppose I’m wondering which would be the best starting point given my skin concerns. I am 37, I take very good care of my skin now and have a regular routine but also spent my 20s not taking care of my skin. I have some fine lines, deeper lines on my forehead & melasma (I used to be a sun worshipper and didn’t wear SPF). I’m also going through some hormonal changes in my late 30s which is causing some acne.
Would you start with micro-needling and a peel 2 weeks after, or a peel and micro-needling once the peel healing is complete?
Any insights would be helpful!!
So ever since I noticed fine lines around my eyes (crows feet area) I stretch them out to ''reduce'' the fine lines especially when I had to laugh really hard, I kinda try to reset that area and stretch the skin. I thought that stretching it would reduce these lines ever so slightly. Now I am thinking that I worsen it by stretching it. The more I stretch it the looser it will become right? just like an elastic band. Should I stop doing this?
Any suggestions for beloved skin and hair care products I can get while in Rome or Florence? Or suggestions for stores to look for?
I'll be visiting Italy next month and was hoping to find some fun products I wouldn't usually see or have available to me. I've seen people mention certain things they can only get in Italian or European stores and would love to try some!
