Bald Eagles and 2016 Elections

The bald eagle is the national animal of America, which is a symbol of courage, strength, and freedom. 2016 turns out to be the one of the worst years in US history. Lately, the bald eagle is unhappy of the future of America.

Two days of the election, two bald eagles are caught fighting in mid-air, eventually falling into the storm drain hole. The male is protecting the female from falling, but gives up and the female ends up falling into the drain. A few days after, the female dies. Many Hillary supporters made this metaphor of the election.

When an another bald eagle named Uncle Sam visits Trump, it attracts Trump. When Trump tries to approach the bald eagle, it attacks back. This is a metaphor that America hates Trump and want him to fail.

Who I Would Have Voted For If I Have Voted in 2016

I didn't vote because I thought it wasn't that important. I skipped on the primary elections. If I have voted in the primaries, I would have voted for Hillary. Back then, I didn't have any thought about Sanders even though college students are supporting Sanders.

I heard about same day registration for election day. I still didn't think about registering for election day. I told my parents to vote for Hillary, while my grandpa didn't went to vote. My aunt supported for Trump, but I know that move is a regrettable choice.

If I have known about Hillary isn't that trustable like Trump, I would have vote for a third party. If I have known about Johnson and Stein, I would make a protest vote to Stein because she is also liberal and the Green Party supported conservation, which is important.

Looking for the full transcripts of the three presidential debates between Clinton and Trump as a document

I was looking for the transcripts of the three debates. I've seen them online a few times but I'd like to have them more handy as a PDF. Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I figured I give it a shot.

Where can I find detailed results of the 2016 presidential election, separating vote-by-mail, early voting, and on-the-day voting?

The titles says it all. Is the data I am looking for even public ? I hope it is, but I have not been able to find it for any state so far. Ideally, I would like to find for every state a list of results by county, or even better, by district, with the results for vote-by-mail given separately. I'm interested about the effect (or absence of effect) of the non-secrecy of the vote by mail, and I'd like to run some statistical search. Thanks a lot.

Do not normalize Trump

In an effort to not normalize Trump, which much of the media is already doing, I started this e-mail list to remind us that Trump Is Not Normal. Just this weekend Hamilton was a bigger story than a $25 million settlement. Twice a month you'll get a quick reminder of the important Trump related news and how you can get involved. Other 'action' words Hilary could have used in her slogan - like 'Make'

Trump's slogan was 'Make America Great Again, Brexit's was 'Take back control'; What other 'action' words or phrases could Hilary have used to run a better campaign?

These words of action seem to be very powerful if you can find the right phrase.

Why elections do not matter as much as you might think

Liberals (ie Democrats) and conservatives (ie Republicans) are 2 sides of the same coin. At the end of the day, both are hardcore proponents of libertarianism (individual autonomy over government rule, which takes away the power of the government to prevent a small group of individuals from oppressing the rest; in fact this small group eventually ends up controlling the government as well, ie “establishment.” To clarify: like many political philosophies, libertarianism had good intentions, but it does not work, at least not when coupled with capitalism), capitalism, and nationalism (a backwards ideology that legitimizes death and misery as long as the victim happens to be born within certain artificial borders on a map. Also, let me clarify that by being nationalist they want to protect their national corporations, not necessarily their people as a whole. Also let me clarify that it is perfectly fine for everyone to keep their culture and customs as long as they don't force them on others, but I just think it is better if nobody would be discriminated in terms of political or economic decisions on the basis of which borders they were born within, which is unfortunately how the current nationalist system operates). When you think about it, liberals and conservatives only differ on peripheral issues such as the number of LGBT toilets (don't have anything against LGBT but I think it is a problem when the issues of a small minority are given more priority than issues such as world poverty and mass conflict, which are also more important to the LGBT community than LGBT issues), abortion, and whether to achieve their geopolitical interests through boots on the ground or airstrikes. Conservatives conform to the overall broken system and simply don’t care about the world, while liberals also conform to the overall broken system, but they want to temporarily offset their guilt by setting up random quotas in terms of refugees accepted or x dollars given in foreign aid.

No presidential candidate differs from one another in any significant and meaningful way. Even if a president is truly independent, that president would have his or her progressive policies bottlenecked by congress. You see, our freedom is only that which exists in name. It is an oxymoron to have capitalism and democracy intertwined. As long as there is capitalism, there can be no meaningful democracy. The elites who influence both the Democrats and Republicans to the point of practically controlling them do not rule us through traditional, direct authoritarian means, rather, they maintain their relative advantage by using their influence over government, media, and other channels to brainwash citizens into conforming. The most effective way they do this is by offering a tiny sliver of a hope to all citizens: that one day, you too, could be rich. But in reality, less than 1% end up fulfilling this hope. It is basically like playing the lottery for the rest of your life and resting your hopes on it. When people do not achieve this success, their anger is diverted towards silly, divisive movements such as BLM, feminism, meninism, racism, and any other ism which only advocates for the rights of its own members with blatant disregard, and sometimes even oppression, towards other groups. To clarify: I am not vilifying these groups: I think they have the right intentions but their energy has just been misguided. We need to all guide our energy together. Most of these movements are actually hailed as a positive due to their "promotion of free speech and right to organize" which are considered to be progressive because they are pillars of democracy. However, in reality, this is a classic divide+conquer approach used to keep the pitchforks away from the establishment, who are, in fact, causing all of these groups' frustrations. So long as people vote for presidents (out of the current choices on offer, which means 99% of all presidential candidates ever), who are all but puppets for these elites, there can never be true change, as they are directly legitimizing the system that creates their own misery.

No president differs significantly from another anyway, so choosing the "better option" is not going to make much of a practical difference in your life. The only thing that matters under this system is how much money you have, and no president will significantly cause this to change for you. Unless we stop conforming (which is done through voting in federal elections), there can never be change. If you want true change, stop permitting them to play us like this. Boycott federal elections as they exist. Do not legitimize their rule over us. Be a wolf, not a sheep. Don’t make excuses, take action. Don’t complain, fix. Don’t regret, live.

TL;DR: instead of falling for the tricks of the establishment and fighting against each other by joining divisive groups such as BLM, feminism, meninism, trump vs hillary, white vs the other, democrat vs republican, etc... let's all come together and address the real problem. I am not vilifying these groups: they have good intentions, but are just misguiding their energy.

I will leave you with a video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb5ivvcTvRQ

You do not have to agree with all of it (even I don't), but do you really not think that kind of thought is a step in the right direction? The way the world is going is not sustainable anyways, there will be conflict and/or mass economic collapse ahead, so we must think of change whether we like it or not. By cutting yourself off from the world a la Brexit and Trump, you are just sweeping problems under the rug, and intensifying them in the long run. I think that the views in that video are largely a step in the right direction. Whether you like it or not the world is connected and we have to learn to come together one way or another. Please don't randomly dismiss all of it because you think it is "not practical." The bottom line is that we need change, and we need to have the discussion. And by being occupied with fighting each other through divisive movements and puppet candidates, we are being brainwashed and this is taking away valuable time for that discussion. Change is inevitable. But why wait when we can start now? The longer we wait the more people starve to death or work in sweatshops or get blown to bits during war, or even in developed countries they become more prone to becoming victims of terrorism or suffering from increasing wage gaps and ultimately, economic collapse.

free 2016 election dataset

Can anyone help me find election results dataset by county? The best place I found was Dave Leip's www.uselectionatlas.org but it's so expensive.

If you have the dataset, would you mind sharing? I'm just a student and I want to play with the data :)

Thanks!

I'm wondering if someone can explain to me what they like about Trump.

I'm honestly trying to understand. From my perspective his policies seem inconsistent and I don't understand the appeal. I'd love to keep the conversation solely to policy, please. And I'm not looking for a comparison of why someone would choose him over another candidate. Just trying to learn through discussion. Thanks in advance.

Why do feminists dislike Trump so much? I don't get them

As a young woman I am shocked at the fact that so many women are against Trump and support Hilary Clinton.

Just look at how Trump raised his daughter, Ivanka. I've heard a few of her speeches and she blows me away with her knowledge and power. Do you think sexist man would raise his daughter to become such a strong woman?

On the contrary, there have been numerous rape allegations for Bill Clinton, which Hilary Clinton herself helped cover up. Bill cheated on Hilary, and she not only stayed with him but defended him. You call that feminism? Give me a break

So how do Trump voters feel that 5 days after the election, Trump is walking back his promises regarding Obamacare, the Iran Deal, and locking up Clinton?

Oh, and how he's 'draining the swamp' by choosing establishment Republicans and lobbyists for his team.

Discuss.

Hillary should be president because she won the popular vote.

Remember when Trump claimed the election would be rigged against him? And when he said he might not concede defeat in the event that he lost the election? Remember when Hillary supporters gave him shit for both? And now Hillary supporters are saying Hillary should be president "because she won the popular vote, our electoral college system is broken. #AmericaChoseHillary." Imagine this scenario:

Trump wins the popular vote but loses the election due to the electoral college system. He then complains about it, saying he should be president because #AmericaChoseTrump. Hillary supporters then call him a cry-baby and sore loser.

But it's reasonable to call the election system broken and call for a reversal of the election decision because it was Trump who won, right?

Where's the evidence that Trump won because of the working class?

All I see is demographics indicating most lower income voters voted Democrat / Republican in about the same rates on average as they have in the past 7 or so presidential elections. Also Clinton won over Trump in households with someone in a labor union.

What gives? Is it a confluence of anti-Trump sentiment and classism that makes the media want to ascribe this victory to the white working class?
