Welcome to r/VintageScooters. This is the place for fans of the classic Italian styled scooters that started it all.
Please use this space to ask questions, show off your scooters, post rally info and buy and sell scooters and parts. If you have a scooter or parts for sale, please put "FS" in the title. Just keep things on topic, which is 2-stroke, manually shifted, metal, kick started scooters from the 1940s up to 1982 or so. And maybe their clones. As always beware of Asian bodges (and please don't try and sell them here).

Just started assembling this motor today. PX 125 cases. BGM 57mm crank, BGM superstrong clutch, BGM 177 kit. New bearings, seals, cruciform, bushes etc.
Is it necessary to hone the cylinder and check the ring gaps on a brand new kit? In this case, it's a Pinasco 177 2-port kit.
Thanks!
Hi, sorry if I don’t have all the technical terms, English isn’t my first langage.
I’ve had an electric problem on my PX125. So I had it fixed (or so I thought). The mechanic changed the battery, the stator and the regulator. Few days later, same problem again, everything goes off. No lights, no turn signals, no fuel reading, no horn, nothing electric. I kept looking and saw some sparkles at some point under the steering I noticed the wires that go through the steering stem, and which move around it when you steer (such a weird design btw) seem to be pinched and the plastic is ripped and the bare wire in view. My question is: obviously, this is a problem, but can this cause everything to go off? Have I likely found the main reason for my troubles?
I'm here in San Diego, and I have 2 2001 Chetaks that I plan on selling. One kinda runs, and the other does not. The one that kinda runs I tried to register, and DMV said it would cost like $700 or so to get it registered because it hasn't been registered for so long. If a new owner comes along, do they need to pay that? I am in the process of reaching out to the DMV I just thought someone here might know.
I am trying to fit a horn on a 1962 Vespa 150 GL. The one I ordered doesn't line up with the holes. The bezel has an outside diameter of 74mm. In the picture, the top left mounting hole is aligned but the hole patter isn't big enough to align with the other homing holes. Are there bigger options? The horns i see listed are 72mm or 74mm. Thanks!
I picked up a 1979 P200E this weekend for $2500. It has a bit more surface rust than I originally thought but it is in overall decent mechanical condition. Starts in 2 kicks and idles easily. It has a sticking front brake and clutch, but has a new battery, tires & tubes, petcock, carb, fuel line, and CDI. Gas tank is completely rust-free, and came with the original manual, tools, and two sets of keys. Owner had it since the early 90s and has moved to a modern Vespa. I’m going to go through and fix what it needs right away then decide how far I want to go with restoration.
One strange thing I didn’t notice until after I was going through it, when I kick it, the motor seems to move a bit more than I think it should, and I may be crazy, but I think the rear tire is leaning a bit. I imagine that’s perished bushings?
Hopefully I got a decent deal and I don’t discover any other surprises. Can’t wait to dig into it once I sort the Vespa 90 for my brother in law. Thanks everyone here for your advice and ideas!
I’ve looked at Vespas around my local area and I’ve found a few px125s ranging from a few different years. Would it be a good choice for a beginner such as myself? I run basic maintenance on my current 50cc auto scooter, replacing lights, pumping tires, replacing and checking oil, brake fluid. Is there much more I’d need to know? Thanks.
Hello I want to ask all of you, good people, if you know a way to replace the swing arm bushings of a Vespa Primavera ('80) without removing completely the engine from the chassis. The last time I replace them was when I rebuilt the engine so I had it on the bench. I really don't want to disconnect all the cables.
Hello, I’m looking for a vintage Vespa that’s 125cc. Can anyone recommend any reliable/affordable models? I have a 50cc automatic scooter right now but I am looking for something manual and 125cc. Thanks.
I bought a "Complete Rubber Kit" for my 1962 Vespa 150 GL project and I don't have a clue where half of this stuff goes. Is there a guide or video that shows where the different Rubber bits go in the chassis, air box, etc? Thanks!
Hello,
As I wrap up working on this 1964 Vespa 90 I’ve been thinking to pick up a P200e for my next project and personal scooter. I found one that is local enough and under 3 grand. It’s in good enough shape where I’m not forced to do anything major to it. But that got me thinking, maybe it would be a good candidate for something a bit more unconventional. Not a full blown racer, but something inspired by that direction. Modest retro racer look with some power and handling mods.
Before I lay out a bunch of cash for this, I wanted to poll the experience of the people of VintageScooters. Is my idea ill-advised ?
