Kind of a weird question but still, (didn't get a satisfactory from people ik)
What did you do to contribute to Urdu Language? And what problems did you faced? If you didn't, why and what problems did you thought you will face that made you give up on it?
The reason i can ask this question is because I personally have done stuff to contribute to it so wanted to know what others here are doing.
This YouTube Channel is really nice, its creator is posting some useful videos to improve your communication skills.
Kab ashko se jud sakta hai, jo toot gya so toot gya Moti ho ya shisha, Jaam ho bull, jo toot gya so toot gya. Tum nahaq tukde chun chun kar daman mein chupae bethe ho, Shishon ka masiha koi nahi, kia aas lagae bethe ho
What is the meaning of jaam ho bull? Also if possible a context/explanation of this stanza would be wonderful! TIA
I hate just using English loan words. There must be a word for it in Urdu. Any ideas?
Update: we did it Reddit! https://ur.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/
I understand that Faiz is complaining to God that, for centuries, we humans have been paying our dues diligently, doing what is expected of us, and waiting for our prayers to be heard.
However, I am confused about the last line, “tore mandir mein jo nahin aaya vo to tumhin the.” Is Faiz saying that, despite earnestly fulfilling our duties, Man still falls short? Or is he implying that Man held up his end of the bargain, but it was God, despite His promises, who never showed up?
I know toba means repent or can mean disappointment or shock but astaphfirullah means the same when do i say each one?
might not be right sub to ask this in but i know toba is used a lot in urdu .

یہ شعر یا شیر نہیں، ببر شیر ہے😄
Hi everyone,
I am of Pakistani diaspora and grew up with speaking Urdu though it was my parents second language. I’m not as fluent in Urdu as I should be, however it would be great to get help to have this phrase translated “disabled is not a dirty word” into English.
A little context. As there’s a lot of ableism within the south Asian community I feel it’s important that south Asian people know that there’s no shame being disabled and there’s nothing wrong with using the word disabled. I’m disabled and it’s been extremely difficult to navigate life when people and from our community stare and ask why I use a wheelchair. I don’t owe anyone my medical history. Anyway, with this I’d like to use this phrase in my art work and create more awareness within the south Asian community especially Pakistanis.
Thank you for reading.
In ghazal "Go zara si baat par barson ke yaarane gae" by Khatir Ghaznavi, what exactly is the meaning and relevance of "Go"/"Gau"? Is this a Persian term?
Kaagaz aisi bani nahi jo tumhe nyaay de sakegi;
Tutt te sitare jaise tum kho na jao
Kahin tam bas meri yaadon mein na rehjao
TRANSLATION
(No pen, no tool is present to portray you
No paper crafted, that can give justice to you;
I wish you do not disappear like the shooting stars
I wish you don't just stay in my memories)
Sharma jaate hai phool chi jab hasti ho tum
Samundra to kayi gehre hote honge
Magar aankhon se zyada teri kaha hote honge
TRANSLATION
(Among the billions of countless stars, you are the moon
The flowers get shy when you just smile;
Many oceans may be quite deep
But none are any deeper than your eyes)
Chaihiye to aaina apni taraf kar lena;
Parchai jaise kahi tüm andhere mein kho na jao
Kahin tum bas meri yaadon mein na rehjao
TRANSLATION
(I may not be able to bring the moon for you
Although, you could just bring a mirror to yourself;
I wish you do not disappear like the darkness
I wish you don't just stay in my memories)
Uunchi hawaon mein lehrati patang jaisi
Binn paani ke baadal ki baarish ho tum
Binn kaaton ka wo khilta gulaab ho tum
TRANSLATION
(You are like the moon in the dark sky
You are like a kite flying in the free sky;
You are the rain for a waterless cloud
You are like a rose without any thorns)
Dikhti hai raat mein chamaktin nigahein tumhari
Bitt te kal mein to tum kahin tum phir kho na jao
Kahin tum bas meri yaadon mein na rehjao
TRANSLATION
(From amidst your hair
I see your eyes which shine in the nightsky;
I wish you do not disappear into the inevitable tomorrow
I wish you don't just stay in my memories)
Khamosh zulmat mein chupa noor ho tum
Phir bhi qareeb hote hai tum to sarr utthta hai
Agar kabhi nazren takra gayin to hatt ti nahi
TRANSLATION
(You are like the moon in the dark sky
You are the radiance in the silent darkness;
Despite this, when you are near, I cannot lift my head
Whenever, my eyes meet yours then they don't move away)
Sitaron ke mefil se nikli koi pari ho tum
Dubb te suraj ke shaam mein kaash tum kho na jao
Kahin tum bas meri yaadon mein na rehjao
TRANSLATION
(You are like the candle to the flying moths
You are like an angel coming from a kingdom of stars ;
I wish you do not disappear into the twilight sunset
I wish you don't just stay in my memories)
BONUS STANZA:-
Meri nazron se tum khud ko to dekho
Ye heera bhi patthar lagega
Log kehte honge chaand ka tukda ho tum
Mujhse pucho to chaand tumhara tukda lagega

Even diamonds will looks like stones to you ;
People may have told you that you're the piece of the moon

Hi everyone! I am taking a phonetics class at my university and for the final project I have to choose a speaker of my language of choice and analyze their speech. I would like to do a voice call with you and we would be working together trying to find words that highlight the sounds of your language. Please message me if you have any questions, even if you can't help me through a long period of time, even one meeting would be very beneficial. Thank you!
I'm tired of reading every ghazal of Ghalib for his beloved and not having a clue about her. I can't even be sure if it's actually a her or maybe Ghalib's family member or God. I wanna know his lifestory. Why is he such a hopeless romantic. What happened with the poor dude?
I want to put these words in my room. Literally everywhere - frame on the wall, on the door of my room, on my desktop's wallpaper, etc. Please help me translate it.
What do you think about this Ghazal that I wrote. (ps i have just started learning aruuz so the behar isn't correct)

بڑے گناہ کا ارتکاب ہے نقاب
شنیدن کہ رخسار شما تاباں از قمر
طالب دید کے ليے بڑا خراب ہے نقاب
محشر پہ رکھا ہے حقیقت نے بے نقابی کا وعدہ

وصل بھی اور حیا و حجاب بھی
معصومیت کا اچھا سراب ہے نقاب

I can read Urdu perfectly fine when it's typed out digitally, but I really struggle when it comes to reading handwritten Urdu. I find it difficult to recognize certain letters and words due to different handwriting styles and how the letters are joined.
Does anyone have tips that could help me get better at reading Urdu handwriting?
Thanks in advance!
Let me know your thoughts on it.
