    Transfer plan

Currently an orange coast college student veteran(navy)only have my core classes left trying to transfer over to ucsc for robotics engineering any advice for a future transfer on how to better prepare, do's and dont's, heads up's, would a 3.4 or 3.5 gpa be worthy enough, how to increase my chances of getting accepted, social life for a 27 year old, etc lol seems like a lot but I would really appreciate it šŸ™also if anyone here is a current robotics engineer major or if anyone knows of one I could get in touch with

    Iā€™m saddened

That i havenā€™t been able to hang out with the older students on campus. I feel out of place being an older student and living on campusā€¦i certainly couldnā€™t afford to live off-campus, but it be nice to be in a bubble where i feel comfortable and not shunned per se.

    Transfer Housing Question

Hello all, hope the weekend finds you well!

So I am transferring to UCSC in the fall 25' quarter, majoring in literature with a creative writing focus, and I have a few questions about housing. How does it fully work? I contacted the housing office and they gave me a complex, vague answer with a lottery system. I am a transfer student over 23 years old and looking for a single apartment on campus. I can (barely) afford it, and I am willing to hassle with paperwork. Do you guys know the availability of these kinds of apartments? Do you guys know if housing is reserved vs. assigned? I am aware of the housing crisis, but the questions remain.

    Thanks a lot!

    pre-med advising

hey! I'm a first year pre-med student and I was wondering where I could talk to an advisor about the additional classes I'll have to take for med school to plan everything out. I've been to my major advisor and college advisor and they didn't really help so...

    Easy PR GE

Has anyone taken any of the PR GEs currently offered? It's the last GE I have, and I want an easy class without mandatory attendance.

ECE 103/L with Yu Zhang curve

Just got my midterm scores back and I didn't do too great. Just wanted to see if in previous years the prof curved the final grade on top of the pretty decent percentage to grade distributions in the syllabus, or if that kinda works as our curve and there's nothing on top of that.

is it normally this warm this time of year?

I started in winter (so january of 2024) and remember many cold days. No reference for Santa cruz weather or weather in this region in general (i am from southern California). But here we are in autumn and it could be because I walk everywhere but I find I am warm or even slightly hot a lot more than Iā€™d like. I really want to wear my sweaters and warm clothes but itā€™s a gamble if itā€™ll be cold all day or just until 10am and the forecast never seems to get it rightā€¦

I know we had a massive heatwave here and although itā€™s technically much warmer where I am from (it was nearly 80f there yesterday!) i think here it is humid heat.

Forgot to get my driverā€™s license back from Cowell Coffee Shop, any way I can pick it up?

Hey all! I was at Cowell Coffee Shop on Thursday and for some reason gave them my driverā€™s license and then in a rush I left it there. Anyway I can get it back over this long weekend? Or do I have to wait until Tuesday when it opens back up?

    Looking for Drummer and Bassist!

Hey everybody! We're SLICKTROSYNTH! An electronic post punk based band made up of two UCSC students as of right now. The music is composed by myself and I have one of my friends playing the keyboard for the synth parts of the composition.

The goal is to have at least one rehearsal per week to lead into us performing live at various venues around SC starting sometime next year (Jan. 2025).

If you're a drummer, an electronic drum set is preferred, but we're open to acoustic as well. Also in need of a bassist.

Feel free to check us out on insta @SLICKTROSYNTH and send us a DM if you're interested. Beginners welcome!

(Our live setup would hopefully resemble something like this)

    Winter UCDC and the Election

Hi guys, Iā€™ll be frank, I got into UCDC but was naively expecting/hoping for Trump to not win.

Now that everything has set in, Iā€™m realizing Iā€™d be in DC at the Capitol during his inauguration.

Iā€™m a woman of color and Iā€™m scared tbh. Do you think I should pull out of the program? How long do you think his supporters will be there?

Iā€™m scared, mostly for my well-being and that of the women around me during the first few months of his presidency. I can only imagine itā€™ll be chaos.

I just donā€™t really know what to do and am looking for input from people who have done UCDC and maybe even been in DC during a transfer of power.

    PC Help

Hey brought my pc to campus and usually use a lan at home. But the reswifi or any other wifi networks don't show up and so I have to use my hotspot to redownload games. Trying to download bannerlord but it says it will take greater than a year. Any idea how to connect a pc to wifi? Also, downloaded the exe for reswifi and it says that the configuration was successful but the connection was not, as I am too far away from a router.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Transfer advice

Hi Iā€™m a current freshman here at UCSC but have already begun to think about transferring, Iā€™ve been thinking about this before I even accepted the decision. I know thatā€™ll probably get this post comment dogging on me but Iā€™m not here for that, I'm here for advice and guidance. The main reason for me wanting to transfer right now is because for my proposed major I put film, I still want to do film but instead as a passion not as a career, and currently I've been interested in the civil engineering and architecture fields. However, because of my past mistakes and failure to do my research, ucsc doesn't have any of those or even similar ones, So I come here seeking advice and guidance. I plan on transferring out for my third year, keeping up my good grades, building connections, and being involved(Clubs, Volunteering etc), so far I think Iā€™ve been doing a good job with those things and want to keep on building up a good resume. So basically I want to ask a couple of questions:

    • Since ucsc doesn't have the majors I want to switch too, can I and if so should I drop my film major and go to undeclared, or switch to similar major to civil engineering or architecture
    • I know transferring from a UC is difficult but is it something that is it something that you think people can do if they put there mind to it
    • How likely is it that I can transfer out of here, the list I currently have right now is one with schools of high regard so I just want to know yā€™alls opinion
    • For anyone who is currently in this process any tips, advice and guidanceĀ  and for anyone who came to ucsc and successfully transferred out any tips, advice and guidance

Thanks for anyone who reads this and leaves a comment or reaches out

    Senior exit lab

Hi guys Iā€™m planning on taking my senior exit lab soon and i have no idea how hard itā€™ll be. I noticed itā€™s 5 credits instead of the typical lab which is 3 or under. Does anyone know if itā€™s a lot of work. I was planning on taking all of my final stem courses during the same time

    Housing groups

So I really donā€™t click with my current 2 roommates, and theyā€™re already planning to apply for housing for next year with a group of their friends without me. I donā€™t have too hard feelings about them not inviting me because I already didnā€™t want to house with them next year. Will there be opportunities in the future for me to apply to housing with another group of people? Will there be people forming groups for sophomore housing that will be wanting an extra person? Because Iā€™m desperate not to be homeless and I still want to apply in a group of girls.

    Admission chances

I am an out of state student. Although I only have a 3.4 gpa (3.8 weighted), i also have a 1500 sat, strong extracurriculars, and a good (in my opinion lol) essay. i also have a very clear upward trend with my grades and circumstances that prevented me from getting higher grades my freshman and sophomore year, which I explain in my application. What do yall think my chances of admission are?
