Fishing Ticket/Citation - So Annoyed

Hey everyone,

I recently got a citation/ticket for fishing in a nearby neighborhood pond, not realizing the pond is owned by an HOA community that I do not live in. The citation is 'Fishing without landowner consent', $350 Class C Misdemeanor (same category as a speeding ticket.....right?!?!). I had my fishing license and everything in order, just did not realize it was 'private property' (no signage near pond). Very annoying circumstances to say the least.

Anyone have any suggestions/ideas on how to get out of this ticket?

DFW fishing recommendations

I’m taking a trip to dfw in mid June from Georgia, I’m just looking for some good fishing anywhere around the dfw area. I’m primarily a bass and trout fisherman but I’m up for anything new. Will also be stopping in Baton Rouge and mobile/gulf shores if anyone knows fishing in those places. Thank yall

Cut bait

Can you use gaspergou (freshwater drum) as cut bait or can you get in trouble for that?

South Padre: Massive Redfish Takedown!

https://youtube.com/shorts/nQ7ylXKZK9o?si=u06go2Vf4G6Zx1KV

Hey, fellow anglers! I witnessed a friend catch a massive Redfish a couple of days ago. He was using live shrimp at the very tip of South Padre Island Jetties.

Does anyone have a similar experience? Any tips or tricks you swear by? Let's make this a shared tale of triumph over the Texas tides! Don't forget to like, subscribe, and let's keep the conversation going. Tight lines, my friends!

Saltwater Gear Rental?

Hi everyone, my 8yr old and I took a saltwater fishing class and would like to head to the coast to try it out. We won't get to do this on a regular basis so I was hoping to find a place to rent gear. Any recommendations?

Modifications?

My doc said I should cancel my upcoming fishing trip to Rockport -unless- I can figure out ways to modify the way I fish to accommodate my spinal arthritis flare up. Specifically, he mentioned that casting and reeling in fish are the modifications that I would need. I already have the reeling in portion taken care of. Is there any kind of modification that would make it less strenuous to cast? Like an auto caster or something? Just hoping to save my non-refundable trip lol

Jon boat adventures?

Buying a jon boat tomorrow. Hoping to turn it in to a saltwater skiff, but I’m itching for a maiden voyage this weekend. Only has a 6 hp motor on it, which I’ll change during the rigging process. Anyone know of some good winter spots back in the marsh around East Matagorda, Christmas, or East/West Galveston bays? Wind looks like North-Northwest on Saturday and Sunday with speeds varying from 9 to 15 MPH. Monday it shifts east and stays pretty calm, 3-9 mph.

Red Drum Diet Research

Red Drums (Sciaenops ocellatus) love White Shrimp, Gulf Menhaden, and Blue Crab. In a study conducted in Galveston Bay, Texas, researchers examined the stomachs of 598 Red Drum.

They discovered that Red Drums primarily consumed White Shrimp during Fall, representing 60% of their diet by number. They also fed on Blue Crab, Brown Shrimp, Gulf Menhaden, and Mullet.

During Spring, the Red Drum diet changed from mainly shrimp to fish. The Gulf Menhaden made up 97% of the diet by number. In some cases, 100-200 Menhadens were found inside the stomach of only one fish, which could have resulted from tasty encounters with large schools of Menhaden.

Even though Brown Shrimp was abundant during Spring, Red Drum avoided them and preferred the Gulf Menhaden instead.

Although the main prey varied depending on the season, Blue Crabs remained a significant food source during both seasons.

Another interesting finding was that Red Drum didn’t select their primary prey based on size. However, in the case of Blue Crabs, the larger individuals (50-70 mm) were preferred, even though plenty of smaller Blue Crabs were available.

The scientist pointed out that the diet variance could be related to prey availability in each season.

This study can definitely help us tune our tactics to catch those prized Bull Redfish.

Anyone want to go in on a charter on the gulf?

Sorry if this is the wrong spot to post this.

My dad and I recently got back into fishing and want to go deep sea fishing, but a charter is very expensive for just two people. Would anyone here want to throw in for a charter down in the gulf? Maybe mid november? Anyone would be welcome, we’d just meet up at the charter, each pay our share, and catch some nice fish together!

Texas Ocean fishing for mahi-mahi in April?

I think the mahi-mahi season for Texas gulf is in early may, but what about late April? I want to plan ocean fishing for my in-laws. Is ocean fishing good in late spring like April?

I am going to Wimberley this weekend and want to do some fishing, are there any good public spots in/near Wimberley? I read you’re allowed to fish Cypress Falls but not Blue Hole.

New to saltwater spincast, need rod advice

Hey all.. Usually fish Surfside wading, but on the boat I head to Port O'Connor. I have used Shimano baitcast for 30+ years. last weekend some friends brought their spinning setups to Surfside and I tried them out, loved it.. made me question why I never wanted a spinning setup.

That being said, I was looking at the Penn Battle III DX 4000. Not sure which rod to pair it with.. I was thinking 7'6" MH-F, targeting speckled trout and red fish. I feel like the Battle III DX is the best bang for the buck in the $150 range. Going with 4000 because it cost the same as a 2500 and 3000. I don't want to go all out on a spinning reel/rod yet because I am not sure if I am going to even keep it. I would prefer a fully sealed system but the ones I have looked at are all in the $200+ price range. However, if it's worth it, I might.

(also taking reel recommendations)

Any recommendations on a rod for a 4000 size spinning reel? 7' or 7'6"?

Using live bait (shrimp or croaker), sometimes using cork, or 5-6" swim baits from Z-Man that weigh 5/8 to 1 oz.
