I need some guidance wakuu, my Tanzanian passport has lapsed, sep 2024. I am currently a resident of Australia, I have the option of obtaining an Australia passport but am on the fence as I know that would bar me from retaining my Tanzanian citizen and it's benefits.

Has anyone navigated this situation before?

Google informs the nearest Tanzanian embassy is in Tokyo, Japan. Their website seems to be unreachable when I tried. Some more information on other sites suggest, you need to physically attend the embassy.

What are my options?

Besides-

• Returning home- and 'God' knows how long I would have to wait to have renewed. - I have my birth certificate.

-Visiting the embassy in Japan—this seems like an exciting opportunity, but I’m unsure about the requirements or processing time since I haven’t been able to access their website.

Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

This is more or so venting to than an actual question, maybe one could offer some insight. I’m a Tanzanian that has spent the last 4 years studying abroad and only recently came back in the summer . I’ve noticed that over here cheating is SO normalized , like the men are NOT faithful at all 😂😭. Is it just that Tanzania is a secret polyamorous society or something? The toilets in the malls in Dar really sucks at hygiene. They smell like pee all the time and very very dirty. I mean people's civil use of these toilets is one thing and hygiene in general is another. Can something be done? Don't the administration of these malls see how crusty rusty and dirty these toilets are?? It's really annoying and disgusting🙄.......

I have work to do on Sunday…can’t stay there till morning so I decide to leave.

On my way out I meet this lovely young lady sitting down on the grass all by herself. I then I asked her…”do you need company ?” She says “No, am actually waiting for my Bajaj”

We then chatted for the next few seconds…I learned she’s both Tanzanian and Canadian…And that she lives in Mikocheni. I continue to learn a few things about her…before her friends arrive and I am forced to leave.

So I saw someone ask this question and it got me thinking about how people don’t realise how much swahili played a role in stabilising a nation of 100+ tribes.

Yes, majority of us can’t speak English, but if you look at Tz you will realise why it was best not to. Swahili merged us into a nation that isn’t tribalistic as it doesn’t belong to a ‘tribe’. Even the ethnic group ‘waswahili’ can’t come up to claim it. it’s such a loose term that literally anyone born in the cost can be considered mswahili, I’ve even seen Congolese people who say they are swahili.

Finally, I would also like to bring up the fact that Swahili was learnt by the older generation during early independence days. It’s not like the whole nation knew how to speak Swahili but look at us now, majority if not all speak it. If the time and need comes for us to learn another language, I’m sure we will adapt to it as needed. But for now, Kiswahili kiendelee kutukuzwa.

Ps. Did anyone else realise that Swahili words must end in a vowel ? I don’t know why it took me 23 years to catch that 😂

I live in Dodoma, I have a job which is so energy-consuming. However, I love to learn languages. But this city doesn’t have any French or German schools. I wanted to improve my english and do the IELTS but the British council hasn’t opened a branch here. I know you have to take exams in dar, the problem is my job, I must be present everyday except for Sunday. I also wanted to go back to school but my past universities, Udsm/Mzumbe both do not maintain branches here. My job is very low paying but I really need it. But again it’s like stopping me from doing things I like. Why is dodoma growing so slowly.

I have been using Telegram for the past decade or so, and to this day I wonder why it hasnt been a standard of communication among my peers like WhatsApp has. Recently I noticed that Telegram having connection issues, especially when I am in Tanzania. Now that I have been in the country for some time, it hasnt been working for over a month now. No one I ask seems to know what's happening with the app but I suspect there's a ban so I need someone to confirm if my suspicions are correct.

i noticed that sometimes when i tip the person may try to hide that they were tipped not in a negative way but almost like...it would be taken if it were noticed. for example, the waiter would walk me all the way to the car and get the tip, when prior i would place it in the bill holder...are tips shared in tanzania? dar and arusha specifically, do they go to the owner or establishment

How much does the following cost roughly

10kg of rice. (Or the standard size of big bags)

20kg flour. (Or the standard size of big bags)

10 litres of cooking oil

5kg sugar

Basic mattresses - any sizes.

Also, if it helps for context. In Dar, lushoto & Arusha.

P.S… if anyone owns a shop or has friends who owns a shop who sell these things. Please ask if they can help me with good cheap prices on these things. As the cheaper the cost, the more I can buy and help kids with.
