We love subreddit suggestions. Although we'd like to, it's unfortunate that we can't feature everyone. If you submit a request and no one gets back to you, please understand that it's nothing personal, we're just pretty swamped.

Nominating a subreddit

2. Older than 30 days.

3. Active userbase.

4. Constant posts.

5. Mods can nominate their own subreddits.

7. We do not feature subs that are at risk of being banned or quarantined.

These are guidelines, not rules.

March 17th, 2024 - /r/ImaginaryCityscapes: Awe-inspiriring artwork of all kinds of cool fantasy cities!

/r/ImaginaryCityscapes

209,904 virtual architects for 10 years!

Do any of you have their own little worldbuilding projects in their head that they think about when sleeping? Or are you all normal?

I don't know about the rest of you but I've had the same imaginary worldbuilding project bouncing around in my head for decades, that I started when I was just a kid. Nowhere near good enough for the likes or /r/worldbuilding unfortunately (or that's just what I tell myself because I don't have the energy or confidence to write stuff down) but it serves as a fun thing to imagine when I'm lying in bed or sitting on a bus or just hating the real world in general.

One of the perks of this approach to worldbuilding is that I am free to not give a single shit about anyone else's intellectual property. I see something that looks cool? Nice, now it's in my world. And when I'm looking for things to steal and add to the ever-growing pile of incompatible and nonsensical sci-fi tropes that is my worldbuilding project, I head to the Imaginary art subs on Reddit. Now there are a million of these and we can't feature them all, so I'll just highlight one of my favourites for today: /r/ImaginaryCityscapes!

/r/ImaginaryCityscapes is for artwork depicting really cool cities, from the big sci-fi megapoleis to the quaint magical villages and everything in between. There's no shortage of incredible artwork to be found in this sub, and it's one of my favourite subs to browse and escape from the world to. I just wanna live in a cool mushroom town in the forest, man. Growing cabbages or some shit. That's the life.

Here are some of my favourite posts from /r/ImaginaryCityscapes:

Windmill Town - Original artwork link - Imaginary cities don't necessarily need to be unfeasible! Now 'impractical' is another matter, but, yknow, who cares?

Temple Ruins - Original artwork link - I'm just a sucker for abandoned megastructures. And megastructures in general. Speaking of which:

A Thousand Plateaus - By the very talented /u/MarcelDeneuve - Big? Sci-fi? Vaguely threatening-looking and highly imposing? Good shit.

Omashu - Original artwork link - Just seems like a nice place, I'd love to go there and sell my precious, beloved cabbages to those who need them.

Hanging Gardens - Original artwork link - This one's just real pretty.

March 15th, 2024 - /r/iTunesDeals: Deals Hub For iTunes / Apple TV Movies and Shows

####/r/iTunesDeals

1,115 readers hunting for deals for 1 month!

/r/iTunesDeals is a subreddit primarily focused on discovering deals for iTunes movies and TV shows, typically occurring twice a week. We mainly post deals that are worth sharing, such as one-day deals and all-time low discounts. Additionally, we cover other areas like deals within the Apple TV store, including the free monthly Apple TV subscription for new and returning subscribers, recent news on free digital upgrades from Apple, and other news related to digital movies on iTunes. We also welcome discussions related to the Apple digital store.

A little backstory: I created the subreddit because the previous one kept getting restricted due to lack of moderation in the last 4 years. It went through multiple /r/redditrequest processes and changed hands 3 times, and I grew tired of it. So, I decided to create a new subreddit to serve the community a month ago. (This is primarily related to old.reddit.com: When I started a few weeks ago, I had no CSS experience. Since then, I have been exploring other subreddits, incorporating elements that appeal to me, and customizing their code for my own subreddit. Although the majority of my subscribers use new Reddit, I am simply doing this out of personal enjoyment as I love tinkering with it. In a way, I'm kind of glad that I got this opportunity.)

Here is a taste of what you can find on /r/iTunesDeals:

  1. List of more TV Shows Complete Series that are on Sale for $24.99 or Less
  2. Disney Classic Films not available on Disney+ $4.99
  3. Parks and Recreation The Complete Series - $24.99

March 14th, 2024 - /r/SketchComedy: The opposite of I think you should leave. In fact, I think you should stay and enjoy these hilarious videos.

####/r/SketchComedy

7,599 comedy fans laughing for 14 years!

A lot of people pine for the days of the internet from when they were young, but few tend to be specific about what they're looking for. To me the so-called "Golden Days" of the internet were back when there were like a dozen new sketch comedy channels on YouTube per day. When any group of two or three college dudes with a camera thought they could be the next Smosh or Collegehumor. Back when funny videos were sent to you by a friend because they thought you'd laugh at instead of by an algorithm trying to sell you drop shipped crap from Temu.

Like with music, I believe that the underground, less mainstream artists in this space are much more talented and interesting than the mainstream garbage that you see on TV. Yes, there are people on TikTok who talk to themselves and make funnier skits than anything SNL has done in years. There are also small improv troupes with like seven members and playing to clubs with six audience members doing bits better than any "Whose Line" game you've ever seen.

These are the types of videos I hope to promote on /r/SketchComedy. The niche jokes that only you and your buddies get, the insights you thought only you thought about, the really bad parodies make by people who just want to honor their favorite movie by poorly cosplaying it in a cheap Party City morphsuit covered in cardboard, it's all here.

Some of the finest sketches from undiscovered geniuses are:

  1. If Letterboxd was a Dating App...
  2. The First Openly-Gay Chick-Fil-A Owners
  3. The Shirtless Clown

This subreddit serves as a refuge for those seeking to cultivate peace, presence, and a deeper connection to the moment. With over 1.3 million members, r/mindfulness is a vibrant community dedicated to the practice and philosophy of mindfulness. It's a place where beginners and seasoned practitioners alike share insights, experiences, and encouragement.

I got a chance to chat with the moderation team of r/mindfulness to delve into what makes this subreddit a unique and vital part of many people's lives. Their answers reveal not just the essence of the community, but also the impact mindfulness can have on individuals and communities alike.

1: Who should join your subreddit?

r/Mindfulness Anyone who's ever felt overwhelmed by the pace of modern life or who's looking for a moment of peace amidst the chaos. r/mindfulness welcomes everyone, from those curious about mindfulness to seasoned meditators. It's for anyone who wants to learn how to live more presently, reduce stress, and cultivate a sense of inner calm.

2: How and why did you get involved in the subreddit?

r/Mindfulness I stumbled upon r/mindfulness during a particularly stressful period in my life. I was seeking strategies to manage my anxiety and came across this community. The warmth, openness, and wisdom I found here were transformative. Eventually, I wanted to give back to the community that had given me so much, which led me to become a moderator.

3: What inspires you to be active with your community?

r/Mindfulness Seeing the genuine transformations people experience. It's incredibly rewarding to witness members share their journeys, from struggling with anxiety to finding moments of genuine peace and happiness. Knowing that this community plays a part in someone's path to well-being is what keeps us motivated to follow our own paths.

r/Mindfulness r/mindfulness has evolved from a small group of meditation enthusiasts to a large, diverse community. We've seen an increase in the variety of content shared, from scientific studies on mindfulness to personal stories of growth and discovery. As the community has grown, so has the depth of discussions and the collective knowledge our members can draw from.

5: What are your plans for the sub in the future?

r/Mindfulness Our goal is to continue creating a supportive and enriching space for all members to explore mindfulness and being present in the moment. We’ll continue working to prevent advertising and spam in the community and look for new ways to support our members on their personal journeys.

March 12th, 2024 - /r/Nerf: or Nothin'.

####/r/Nerf

90,533 foam warriors blasting for 14 years!

/r/Nerf is a subreddit for all things related to foam blasters - Nerf, BoomCo, Off-brands, Water Blasters, Modifications, Homemades, Assassins, Office wars, and Humans vs. Zombies! For both enthusiasts and newcomers, it is the best place for discussions, advice, and everything related to Nerf modifications.

As someone not in the scene myself, I had to learn what 'modding' is in the context of /r/Nerf. Basically, modders alter blasters for many reasons - such as performance, aesthetics, or functionality. This ranges from paint jobs to upgrading/removing components to increase power and range. It's a really cool way to personalise your equipment and leads to immense creativity.

Other stuff on /r/Nerf includes the weekly Thrift Thursday, where people post thrift store finds, quite a few AMAs, blaster reviews, and [news related to the hobby](https://www.reddit.com/r/Nerf/search?q=Flair%3A(Hobby+News\)&restrict_sr=on&sort=new&t=all). For those invested in the hobby this subreddit will obviously be great, but as an outsider it's also really fun reading and seeing the creative inventions this great community can come up with.

For some insight into the subreddit from somebody involved in the community, I reached out to /r/Nerf moderator /u/roguellama_420 to ask about the subreddit and the hobby in general:

1. How did you come to join the subreddit?

/u/roguellama_420 I had been into the nerf hobby for a little bit and I thought I would check to see if there was a subreddit. At the time, it was much smaller (as was the hobby as a whole). I think we’ve seen a lot of growth over the past few years due to the hobby becoming more accessible and getting more publicity through YouTube.

2. Tell us about /r/Nerf! What types of posts are there?

/u/roguellama_420 r/Nerf is pretty much the front page of the blaster modification hobby at the moment. We are home to collectors, 3d printed blaster designers, folks who modify brand name blasters, and everyone asking questions for those topics and more.

3. For someone new to the Nerf community, what should they expect?

/u/roguellama_420 Definitely do your research if you’re looking into getting into the hobby- we’ve gotten so many options in the past few years, so I guarantee there’s a blaster you’ll have fun with. Also be sure to check this link, there may be a local club near you: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1KAg7rP6C93n0jN2JslCDq3L6iTE&ll=39.165980394100536%2C-101.94088154877741&z=4

4. Do you have a favourite blaster/modification?

/u/roguellama_420 For me personally, it’s gotta be my Rival Nemesis. I think the most popular blaster of all time is probably the Stryfe. Those are both nerf brand; some other brands are producing much higher quality products nowadays, such as the Dart Zone Outlaw.

5. Any favourite subreddit posts?

/u/roguellama_420/u/Hotkoin has been making really high quality, well thought out concept posts for a long time. Highly recommend checking those out!

6. Anything else you’d like to add?

/u/roguellama_420 Please search the subreddit before you post lol

March 11th, 2024 - /r/Amish: Reddit's community of Amish people from around the world.

####/r/Amish

192,997 Amish families harvesting their grain for 325 years!

/r/Amish is the premier Old Order Amish subreddit, where Amish people come to discuss their culture. Whether it's discussing things such as milking cows, feeding the chickens, or churning butter once or twice - there is a lot for the Amish to talk about. In order to really get to know them, however, I realised I needed to get into contact with the top mod, Jebediah, for an interview:

1. Thanks for agreeing to this interview! How would you describe yourself?

I'm a man of the land, I'm into discipline, got a Bible in my hand and a beard on my chin. But if I finish all of my chores, and you finish thine, then tonight, we're gonna party like it's 1699.

2. What is the average day like for someone who is Amish?

Hitchin' up the buggy, churnin' lots of butter, raised a barn on Monday, soon I'll raise another! Think you're really righteous? Think you're pure in heart? Well, I know I'm a million times as humble as thou art. I'm the pious guy the little Amlettes wanna be like, on my knees day and night, scorin' points for the afterlife. So don't be vain and don't be whiny, or else, my brother, I might have to get medieval on your heinie.

3. What's the worst part of being Amish?

A local boy kicked me in the butt last week, I just smiled at him and I turned the other cheek. I really don't care, in fact I wish him well 'cause I'll be laughing my head off when he's burning in Hell, but I ain't never punched a tourist even if he deserved it. An Amish with a 'tude? You know that's unheard of.

4. What would you say to somebody who wanted to come visit an Amish community?

If you come to visit, you'll be bored to tears, we haven't even paid the phone bill in 300 years. But we ain't really quaint, so please don't point and stare, we're just technologically impaired. There's no phone, no lights, no motorcar, not a single luxury. Like Robinson Crusoe, it's as primitive as can be.

5. Thanks again for the interview. Anything else you'd like to add?

We been spending most our lives

Livin' in an Amish paradise I churned butter once or twice Livin' in an Amish paradise It's hard work and sacrifice Livin' in an Amish paradise We sell quilts at discount price Livin' in an Amish paradise

March 10th, 2024 - /r/Oscars: And the Oscar goes to...

####/r/Oscars

58,151 nominees walking down the red carpet for 15 years!

Grab your popcorn and join the /r/Oscars subreddit as we celebrate the 96th annual Academy Awards! As winners such as below-the-line categories such as VFX get announced, leading up to the excitement of best picture, join in the /r/Oscars live thread and share your predictions, reactions, and thoughts as the show unfolds.

To get ready for tonight, here's some Oscars trivia!

  • It's not just Presidential candidates, this year at the Oscars is skewing pretty old too. For the first time since 1931, every acting nominee is over 30. The youngest is Danielle Brooks at 34, and the oldest is Robert De Niro at the age of 80.

  • Speaking of Robert De Niro, he has now set a new record for the longest time between an actor's first and last Oscar nomination (previously held by Katharine Hepburn's 48 years). With his first nomination being for The Godfather Part II in 1975, it has been 49 years since he was first nominated.

  • The Holdovers is the first Christmas movie to be nominated for best picture since 1948’s Miracle on 34th Street. 🎄

  • Wes Anderson has been nominated for best live action short film (for The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar), joining his other nominations such as directing (for The Grand Budapest Hotel), original screenplay (for The Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Royal Tenenbaums), animated feature (for Fantastic Mr. Fox and Isle of Dogs) and best picture (The Grand Budapest Hotel). However, he has never won an Oscar... so tonight is his chance to nab his first!

  • With Godzilla Minus One's visual effects nomination, it marks the first time a Godzilla film (of which there have been nearly 40) has ever been nominated.

So look at the nominees, check out the "where to watch?" thread, and join in on this year's celebration of cinema! 😎

Here is a taste of what you can find on /r/Oscars:

March 8th, 2024 - /r/TheBear: Yes Chef!

####/r/TheBear

129,797 chefs in the kitchen for 1 Year!

The Bear is a comedy/drama series that first aired on Hulu in 2022. A Michelin-starred chef inherits his brother's sandwich shop in Chicago, and struggles to handle the chaotic kitchen, debts that need to be paid, and unresolved family issues.

The show has been critically acclaimed for its writing and acting, and even won every Emmy that is was nominated for in 2023.

Personally I started watching the show after seeing this scene in an ad on TikTok. After watching the first episode, I was enthralled by the fast pace of the show... and very thankful that I have not worked in a kitchen before.

One of the mods of /r/TheBear was kind enough to answer some questions for us...

#1. How did you first get into the community?

Well, I first got into The Bear even before it became so popular and before it even released. I saw there was a series order for the show and was instantly intrigued by the synopsis and the cast and wanted to make a subreddit for it.

#2. What’s it like moderating the subreddit?

It can be tough at times as would moderating any other subreddit, but it’s also nice to see the discussions amongst other people who also enjoy the show.

#3. What are some of your favorite posts?

The memes, this sub can be very creative at times with their memes and I love seeing them suddenly in my feed.

#4. Do you have any plans for the future?

Currently no specific plans until Season 3 gets closer, but until then, I would say just maintaining the subreddit.

Normally at this point in the post, I'd highlight some of the top posts of the subreddit. But a lot of it is just thirsting over the lead actor, Jeremy Allen White.

Which...tbh...fair

March 7th, 2024 - /r/WowThanksImCured: Unsolicited advice is always good.

/r/WowThanksImCured

239,098 ill people rolling their eyes for 6 years

So, get this lads. There's a place where people give you completely unsolicited medical advice and it immediately makes you fell a whole hell'uva lot better! Sounds like a sham right? Sounds like it's too good to be true right? Sounds like you'll suddenly be cured by the morning, RIGHT?! Well, you're right. But, /r/wowthanksimcured wants to make sure you know that you're not alone. Most of the time when you get that unwarranted advice, you're facing some sort of mental health issue, whether it be depression (which you can beat by washing your face), anxiety, or drug addiction (you just need BALLS BRUH).

Needless to say, you, as the person facing all of these issues have heard it all before. Of course, your local WebMD doctors, your self-help gurus and the experts on everything want you to know that you'll be just fine by following a 3 step program.

  1. Just don't do the thing, dog.
  2. Literally feel better, you control your life.
  3. Turn to god, bro, it's literally that easy.

Realistically, both physical and mental issues take time to heal. Success is never going to be guaranteed. And while unsolicited advice from strangers can be both hilarious and just as equally devolve into a whole conversation about missing the point, the fact of the matter is that the internet is always there to throw in their two cents. Especially when they have no idea how the world works anymore.

Yes, that's right kids! You too can be successful! Just have a ton of money to make more money!

All this satire and more can be yours, just drop on by /r/WowThanksImCured today!

March 6th, 2024 - /r/myleftfoot: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step (of a foot).

####/r/myleftfoot

546 users checking out the sinistral trotter for 6 years!

We here at SubredditoftheDay can appreciate the dedication that daily posts require. Whether it's something seemingly simple like daily write-ups about subreddits, or posts like what today's subreddit does, making sure that there's a new unique post every single day requires some serious dedication. With that in mind, here is a subreddit I've been planning to feature for a while: this is... /r/myleftfoot.

Not a subreddit for the Daniel Day-Lewis movie of the same name, /r/myleftfoot is a subreddit dedicated to some guy's left foot. The 'some guy' specifically is /u/MoronTheMoron, and for over 6 years he has been posting a picture of his left foot everyday. If you're foot guy and this sounds amazing for that reason, more power to you, but I think that this endeavour is more like a cool unique piece of performance art. Why? When? How? What? How? When? Why? These are all great questions, and luckily /r/myleftfoot has a post for Frequently Asked Questions. Go check it out, some great questions on there. But to get some solid answers, I decided to go straight to the source: the man, the myth, the legend, /u/MoronTheMoron:

1. How/why did you start with this subreddit?

/u/MoronTheMoron https://i.imgur.com/qLWEIL4.jpeg

2. What are your favourite types of posts to make?

/u/MoronTheMoron https://i.imgur.com/haZlYZ4.jpeg

3. What's been some of your left foot highlights?

/u/MoronTheMoron https://i.imgur.com/C8EVHn5.jpeg

4. Why your left foot? Why must your poor right foot be left out? :(

/u/MoronTheMoron https://i.imgur.com/dO4UXAb.jpeg

5. Do you have anything else you'd like to add? 🦶🏻

/u/MoronTheMoron https://i.imgur.com/yxE49OV.jpeg

Thanks to /u/MoronTheMoron for the interview! To conclude, here are some random posts from /r/myleftfoot:

  1. Foot + Greg Davies

  2. MoronTheMoron's justified mild fury at SubredditoftheDay taking an indefinite hiatus just as myleftfoot was able to be featured (lol sorry)

  3. The most upvoted foot pic for some reason

March 3rd, 2024 - /r/PhantomBorders: Strange borders popping up in unexpected statistics!

/r/PhantomBorders

48,336 subscribers for 3 years!

"Geography is Destiny."

... Is a paraphrased, slightly bastardised version of a quote by 14th century Tunisian philosopher Ibn Khaldun, often attributed to Albert Einstein because of course it fucking is. I like this quote. Geography nerds might read it, roll their eyes, and start getting the 'well, actually' comments ready, but on the whole it's a very intriguing thing, how grography affects literally everything about the nations and peoples that rise and fall throughout human history. Country's borders aren't drawn just based on looks (well, as long as you're not a colonial-era European superpower), they reflect the people and cultures within them, and those people and those cultures form as a result of the geography they're based in.

This image makes the rounds on Reddit every now and then and I always think it is immensely interesting how there is such a clear correlation between millions of years old dirt and stuff that is currently happening today. For all the scientific progress we've made in our modern civilisation, we're still bound to the world around us, and even after uncountable lengths of time and history these things still show up in the form of these phantom borders. I don't know about you, but I find that kinda mind-blowing. So let's look at a sub that's all about this stuff!

/r/PhantomBorders documents examples of divides between different areas and cultures based on seemingly unrelated date. This can be as simple as illustrating different ethnic populations voting differently or as bizarre as century-old borders being clear from wildlife populations. If there's one takeaway from these posts is that there's usually a simple common link between many different results (relevant xkcd), and you'll always find healthy discussion about the nature of the exhibited boders in the comments sections, which is neat. Here are a few of my favourite examples from the sub:

March 2nd, 2024 - /r/Thatsabooklight: For all those fancy space-age looking movie props that aren't quite as fancy space-age as they may first seem!

/r/Thatsabooklight

128,856 eagle-eyed moviegoers making the lives of prop designers more difficult for 9 years!

Prop design is an often underappreciated part of the moviemaking process, and a rather misunderstood part as well. We might pay close attention to things like swords and wands and preciouses and all the big important stuff that gets screen time and attention, that gets designed by a team in concept form and then worked on and revised until it looks perfect.

But for everything else, all the minor background things that nobody's paying attention to, it's all about making it 1. Look good enough, and 2. Cheap. And that's where a lot of the most interesting stuff happens, when the pro designers have to sit down with a bunch of random crap and make something out of it all. Sometimes you get elaborately crafted sets expertly built atop existing infrastructure. And sometimes you get, y'know, a pile of junk that looks fine because hey, who's really going to notice that one random box you spray-painted for a pickup shot and then know what it is, right? Right?

/r/Thatsabooklight is a sub for identifying all those generic everyday items that get repurposed in movies and television shows as part of the scene. Sometimes it's just random background elements being cool-looking boxes repainted to fit the scene, and other times it's literally bits of the outfit the character wears in every single episode.

Here are a few of my favourite examples I've seen in this sub:

And there's loads more! So the next time you're watching a movie, take a moment to glance at the background elements and think about the fact that someone took the time to prepare each and every one of those elements by hand in order to make the shot parfect. I think it's cool the amount of sheer creativity that gets put into even the smallest details of the media we enjoy; whether the budget allows for great time and effort put in or not, there is still care put into every inch of these shots. And that's neat. Thanks, set designers.

Unless it's some worthless CGI-generated drivel that some VFX dude grabbed from an asset pack like most movies do these days. Sigh.

Now that I have smugly insulted all modern movies and all CGI for no reason maybe I will finally be kino enough for /r/okbuddycinephile to accept me

March 1st, 2024 - /r/InternationalBaseball: America’s pastime, worldwide

/r/internationalbaseball

4678 fans in the stands across the world for 10 years

It’s baseball season! Across the world, teams have started their spring training sessions in preparation to gear up for new seasons of baseball, and /r/internationalbaseball is here for finding out about leagues worldwide. Not only are there posts about the various national leagues, but also international tournaments like the Caribbean Series and, in the years it occurs, the World Baseball Classic.

I had a brief interview with the moderators about goings-on on the sub.

Do you find that the sub’s user base is worldwide, or more from countries where baseball is traditionally strong? For example, I’m American and found the sub around the time of the 2023 WBC.

I do. There is a good mix of International fans (I'm Canadian) and American fans with an interest in growing the game worldwide. Higher ups within various baseball federations from around the world have even taken part in the subreddit, which I love to see.

Is there more traffic on the sub when international leagues and tournaments are happening, or is it fairly consistent all the time?

There is definitely an uptick in traffic during tournaments, as there is more to talk about in general when these are ongoing. The subreddit has been seeing more traffic all around as well.

Which leagues tend to have the most popular posts?

I personally find that posts detailing events or happenings in growing/new baseball countries tend to receive the most significant traffic. Various Caribbean leagues seem to garner significant interest as well.

Anything you want to add?

Perhaps flares for various World Cup tournaments (not the WBC) if possible.

From Brazil to Bhutan, /r/internationalbaseball is the hub for baseball across the globe. See you at the game.

February 29th, 2024 - /r/PokemonZA: Back to Kalos in 2025!

/r/PokemonZA

6978 Lumiose City residents discussing the potential storyline and Pokemon to be featured since February 27, 2024

Every year, the 27th of February is Pokemon Day, which is the anniversary of the initial release of Pokemon Red & Green in Japan in 1996. In recent years this has been accompanied by announcements of new features and/or games. 2024 was no exception, with the announcement of the second game in the Pokemon Legends series, Pokemon Legends Z-A. The subreddit /r/PokemonZA popped up shortly after the announcement. (I’m a little surprised that the sub wasn’t already in use for a South Africa-based Pokemon community, but I guess because only tourists refer to South Africa as ZA. I digress.)

With just the initial announcement so far, the subreddit is small but growing, with posts speculating about things like what the starter Pokemon will be (if it follows the formula that the previous game in the Legends series, Arceus, had, the starters will be from other regions than the original games the Legends game is based on), whether there will be new regional forms, new Mega Evolutions, or even new Pokemon (or if the Eternal Floette will finally appear), and if the game takes place in the past or the future compared to the games it’s based on, Pokemon X & Y. There’s so much more to come for /r/PokemonZA, but it’s growing quickly. According to top mod u/madebypeppers, in its first 12 hours the sub gained 5000 members and had over 100 posts. That’s pretty formidable, and it’s only going to go up from there as the game gets closer to release.

February 28th, 2024 - /r/IsItFebruary29th: No. :(

####/r/IsItFebruary29th

3,656 loyal subscribers waiting for the special day to come for 5 years!

I'm sorry to be bringing you a sad post today. Here at Subreddit of the Day, we like to bring the awesome! Celebrate interesting communities! Shine a spotlight on the small, the big, the new and the old! However, today isn't one of those days. Today, I bring you sad news. Today, dear reader, is not February 29th.

Back in 2020, I saw this post on /r/IsItFebruary29th, declaring that day to be February 29th. Excited, I subscribed to the subreddit, eagerly waiting to see more. That's where the trouble started. The next day came, and it was a 'no'. Fair enough, can't be greedy, maybe the next day will bring another February 29th. Then the next day came and it was another 'no'. Then another, and another, and another. For the next few years, I felt such intense disappointment every time I opened Reddit and saw /r/IsItFebruary29th's daily post. Eventually, I stopped seeing /r/IsItFebruary29th in my feed.

Recently, I remembered this subreddit and searched it up, only to find the bot had stopped posting 11 months previously and the mod was inactive. With the urgency this matter demanded, I went to /r/redditrequest and got the subreddit active again. But do you know how long 11 months is? For over 300 days, this subreddit wasn't keeping on top of whether it was February 29th. Do you know how many February 29ths we might have missed? Between that and how long it's been since the last one, I've given up hope. So, go over to /r/IsItFebruary29th if you want to join in on the misery. It's coming up exactly four years since the last one, so it doesn't look like it'll ever happen again. :(

February 27th, 2024 - /r/ShittyVeganFoodPorn: A pint of Ben & Jerry's... and a scoop of nooch.

####/r/ShittyVeganFoodPorn

130,642 vegans not doing veganism any favours for 9 years!

Vegan food has historically had a reputation for... not being the best. Maybe less so now, but before the days of 'beyond' or 'impossible', restaurants often served a mushroom in a bun, claimed it was a vegan burger, and charged $10 for it. As a vegan myself, I'm no stranger to a 'shitty vegan' meal. I just roasted and ate a whole head of broccoli (it was delicious by the way). /r/ShittyVeganFoodPorn can often take it to a whole new level though.

For example, look at these "cauliflower wings". I initially assumed this was cauliflower frozen in chunks of ice, but nope! 'Super crispy baked cauliflower wrapped in rice paper'. Now, I'm not gonna lie and say that doesn't actually sound great, but wow. Its appearance is certainly unique. The top comment sums that one up: "This is why the non-vegans think we’re weird, cuz of shit like this dawg". Speaking of the non-vegans, there's also food that non-vegans serve up for us vegans, like this vegan meal someone was served at a wedding. Plain quinoa and unpeeled baby carrots. Or, here's another wedding meal. Broccoli, raw Brussels sprouts, and lemon wedges. Beautiful stuff, nothing could beat those two wedding meals. Just kidding, here's yet another one from a wedding. Literally just 5 green beans.

For some GreatVeganFoodEyebleach after seeing that, /r/ShittyVeganFoodPorn often has food that I think looks incredible. The rules ban "debating whether or not a post is actually 'shitty' vegan food", so I'll just concede that it's probably because my standards are low. But seriously, look at these IKEA veggie dogs, or this pizza. Kinda making me wish I had more than a whole head of broccoli for dinner now.

Here is a cruelty-free taste of what you can find on /r/ShittyVeganFoodPorn:

  1. not what i was going for (3544 upvotes, 195 comments)
  2. this is the worst day of my life (689 upvotes, 71 comments)

February 26th, 2024 - /r/pokeplush: gotta collect ‘em all!

/r/pokeplush

17784 Pokemon plush collectors making sure that sleeping Eeveelution is legit for 8 years

Pretty much as long as there’s been Pokemon, there’s been Pokemon merchandise. The trading card game is probably the most famous, with its 1st-edition Charizards worth thousands (and if you’re like me, you had one as a kid and lost it), but there’s also a dedicated following for the numerous plush Pokemon, and /r/pokeplush is where you can find all kinds of them.

I’ve got a decently sized Pokemon plush collection myself, but it’s nothing compared to what I’ve seen on the sub. /r/pokeplush has collections of all sizes, and even plush of all sizes. There are the rarities, classics, bootlegs, and homemade. (I’ve got a few handmade plush myself in my collection. They were things that don’t have an official version made to my knowledge, like shiny Poipole.) There are the rarities from Japan, like the Oceanic Operetta set (that’s three separate links, by the way). Brands like Build A Bear and Squishmallows have Pokemon collections, too. You can find Pokemon plush at almost any store these days.

From Kanto to Paldea, and everywhere in between, /r/pokeplush has all your stuffed Pokemon desires.

Yeah, before you head over there and start spamming whatever sick twisted links you have in mind, /r/OnlyFans is literally what it sounds like. /r/OnlyFans posts include this gorgeous selfie. Damn! There's also this over-40 still giving a perfect blow. Wow, how ventilating. Here's another model if you prefer something dirtier. February 23rd, 2024 - /r/hewillbebaked: the cats will be baked soon alhamdulillah 🙏🙏🙏

/r/hewillbebaked

48,141 cat crafters for 2 years!

This site is a big and confusing place, but if there's one constant across the whole of it, it's that there will always be another cat sub. Many new cat subs pop up all the time and all are delightful, but here at SrotD we try to only pick the crème de la crème of those, as to not induce cat-photo-overload hysteria amongst our readers from featuring a new cat sub every single day. Today's sub is a wonderful small sub that's been picking up in recent weeks, all stemming from this image.

r/hewillbebaked is a sub for cats that will be... Prepared. I'll let the posts do the explaining:

This cat will become a burrito

This cat will become bread

These cats will be fried

This cat will be knitted into a sweater

Do I need to explain why this sub is delightful? Go check it out and subscribe!

February 22nd, 2024 - /r/CaughtOnCCTV: Big Brother is Watching You.

*(Warning: The following subreddit is rated NSFW, viewer discretion [and keeping your job] is advised.)

(This subreddit features content that not all readers may enjoy, if your views conflict with this content, then do not proceed farther in this article.)*

####/r/BigBrother /r/CaughtOnCCTV

11,182 cameras capturing footage for 10 Years

Believe it or not, closed circuit television is far more common than you think. Every time you pass a building with one of those sir-curity cameras it's more than likely connected to a closed circuit security system. More often than not, some of the most bizarre and miraculous things end up /r/CaughtonCCTV.

For example, could you imagine getting struck by a 2 ton piece of steel and just getting up and walking away? Mind you, that's not the most bizarre, nor is it the scummiest thing that COCCTV has to show you. CaughtOnCCTV at the time, was one of the best ways for people to share CCTV footage to help provide evidence of wrong doing (especially when police need concrete evidence). Nowadays, it's more like a hodge-podge of whatever someone can find that's interesting on a security cam or dash cam, and something of a constant reminder that big brother is always watching you.

I messaged the lone moderator /u/BlitzBaller six years ago when this piece was originally due to be written and posted and had the chance to ask some questions.

##What caused the creation of /r/CaughtonCCTV?

/u/Blitzballer I'm quite interested in missing people, unsolved murders and crimes amd the most haunting sometimes are the ones where there is something caught on CCTV of the last moments of the victims or a glance of the bad guys. Now with CCTV all around us, it can capture amazing, scary, and even funny things too

##Has any of the footage featured actually been used to catch criminals? If so, did Reddit have a hand in it?

/u/Blitzballer I wouldn't say the things that are posted have helped catch criminals or any Reddit involvement as its a small sub, but i think the more things get posted or cross-posted the more people are aware of unsolved incidents caught on CCTV.

##What would you do if you were /r/CaughtOnCCTV?

/u/Blitzballer I'm quite a recluse really, with work and handling my baby son it would show me failing miserably at changing nappies.

##Do you believe in Big Brother, the notion that the government is always watching through CCTV?

/u/Blitzballer I saw something recently of a journalist who went to China to try and see if he could hide from the CCTV that China have. It didn't last very long... As an Englishman living in China that scares me as to how much our governments could see of us.

##I noticed connections between CoCCTV and other dark subs like WatchPeopleDie and MorbidReality, where does CoCCTV fit in?

/u/Blitzballer If its caught on CCTV, I think its worth posting, but obviously with a NSFW tag. CCTV captures the mundane as well as other nefarious things so nothing is really excluded. Obviously watching someone taking out the trash on CCTV isn't really exciting!

When you were here before, could you look her in the eye? Is she like an angel? Does her skin make you cry? Does she float like a feather in a beautiful world? Do you wish you were special? Is she so fucking special? Do you feel like a creep when you listen to Thom Yorke's voice? Do you feel like a weirdo? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may belong here.

...and by "here", I mean you may belong on /r/Radiohead! A subreddit for fans of Radiohead, funnily enough, this subreddit does extend slightly beyond just Creep. It's a place for questions, fan art, covers, reviews, and lots more Radiohead stuff. Their sidebar also links a useful beginner's guide to Radiohead and their solo stuff up until 2020, the /r/Radiohead community playlist, and also their Discord server. But wait, there's more! The Smile exists too! The newest project from Radiohead members Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood (alongside Tom Skinner), The Smile have just recently put out their second album, Wall of Eyes, and /r/Radiohead's keeping up with The Smile boys too! They also discuss other Radiohead solo material, including Thom Yorke's recently announced new score for Italian director Daniele Luchetti's new film, Trust.

All in all, check out /r/Radiohead if you wanna see what fellow fans are chatting about in 2024, keeping up with the band members. And if you're interested in getting into the band but don't know where to start, check out that beginner's guide to Radiohead I mentioned earlier, and if you have any questions about the band, now you know where to go!

February 20th, 2024 - /r/NightCourt: The theme song’s stuck in your head now, isn’t it?

/r/NightCourt

1003 defendants seduced by the glamour of it all for 10 years

In 2023, the popular 80s American sitcom Night Court was revived, with Melissa Rauch playing Abby Stone, the daughter of main character Harry Stone, played by the late Harry Anderson in the original. /r/NightCourt is Reddit’s home for both iterations of the show focusing on the zany antics of the evening shift of a New York courthouse.

A lot of the discussion on /r/NightCourt is about the revival, including discussion threads when each new episode airs, but there are plenty of posts dedicated to the original series. It’s interesting seeing the change in the primary carryover character Dan Fielding (played by John Larroquette), who settled down in the 30 years between the series and is now a widower. The only other surviving longtime cast member, Roz Russell (Marsha Warfield) has made appearances in both seasons, with popular original series guest stars the Wheeler family (Brent Spiner and Annie O’Donnell, with Kate Micucci playing the adult version of their daughter) appearing later in the second season.

If you’re a fan of either version of Night Court, or if you’re just curious about it after what I’ve written, come on down to r/NightCourt. Although if you have tortoise nervosa, please do your best to get there quickly.

/r/watchplantsgrow

91,980 houseplant-obsessed weirdos with timelapse cameras for 5 years!

/r/watchplantsgrow is a super simple concept: Videos of plants growing. Who'd have guessed?

Plants are cool for many reasons, and one of my favourite cool things is how they don't do anything for weeks and weeks and then I look one day and what the fuck it's got a new leaf where did that come from? Sometimes it's easy to forget that they're living things that are doing all the """staying alive""" stuff at all times just like the rest of us. They've all got little lives of their own, and /r/watchplantsgrow documents this clearly. It's filled with all kinds of cool timelapses and progress pics, and I'll link a few of my favourites here:

A beautiful Night-blooming Cereus doing its thing

Cacti are cool plants too!

Revitalising an underwatered plant (wish my plants would do that instead of just fucking dying all the time)

February 17th, 2024 - /r/ChatGPT: Unleashing the Power of Language Models!

Here's a bit of a different feature! One of the great technological achievements of the past decade has been chatbots such as ChatGPT and image generation such as DALL·E, but I don't think you'd be able to tell by talking to the average person. I was having a conversation recently about the newly unveiled Sora by OpenAI, which can create video from text prompts. I really thought this was years and years out, but here it is, and as a film student it's both kinda spooky and also immensely cool. The sense I got from my friends though was real pessimism and very intense cynicism: "that's terrible, why are they even making AI, it's like they're just inventing stuff for the sake of it", which I find wild because... isn't it at least cool? Give it a few years and I can see what an AI thinks 'A scene from A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) but directed by Stanley Kubrick' looks like. We're living in the future!

When I think of the term "AI art", for better or worse I don't think of potential cases of artists losing work, I think of ways I can use it and how insane it is that a computer can make something visually pleasing and seemingly understand what makes something a 'good piece of art'. With how ubiquitous AI-generated text has gotten over the past year, it's easy to forget how futurist even that is, never mind video or art. I remember being a child and checking out Cleverbot and being amazed by that. Is the Turing test obsolete now?

All of that rambling to say, I wanted to feature /r/ChatGPT and there's no better way to do that than to let ChatGPT do it itself. Microsoft's Copilot is powered by a better version of ChatGPT and has access to the internet, so it would probably have been better suited for this, but I decided to try it out with the original free version of ChatGPT that kickstarted the AI boom. I think it's pretty much making up most of what's on the subreddit, but it does seem accurate. Without further ado, here's /r/ChatGPT as written by guest-writer ChatGPT AI:
