I'm so excited to have stumbled into this community!

For many years now I thought I was alone with my crazy idea to create a present-day Starfleet Academy. But apparently there are at least 910 others who share my delusion! The latest Mars endeavor had spurred me onward and I began earnestly searching around to find kindred spirits. There just had to be others. Lo and behold! Your description of r/Spacefleet fit my ethos perfectly! Just knowing I am not alone in my dreams of space exploration is a great comfort.

I'm 42 years old and I have a 4-year-old son. I've told everyone of my dream that my son may one day attend such an academy as described in Star Trek. As I've gotten older, I got used to saying, "well, if not my son, maybe his son or his grandsons then..." It saddens me greatly that I live in a time where Captain Picard reflected on with the comment of, "The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force; we work to better humanity." The driving force indeed. But I decided that such forces can be changed when 911 people stand together and slowly steer humanity in a better direction.

Clearly I am a romantic. But it would seem that many of you are as well! I'm glad to have found you all!

r/Spacefleet! Who wants to go see a Delta IV launch Thursday from Vandenberg AFB?

Launch is scheduled for 1-20-11 @ 1:08 PM, from this location. I didn't find out about this soon enough to try and get on base, so I'm not quite sure where I'll be watching from. I plan to head down from the Bay tomorrow though, so it'll mostly likely be from somewhere north.

If you'd like to go as well, reply or send me a message!

Here are some websites for information:

SoCal Sky Lights

Spacearchive

Also, special thanks to this comment.

Edit: It looks like Jalama Beach will be the best place to view it from, but I'm not sure I'm willing to make that drive.
