About sleep apnea:
Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by abnormal pauses in breathing or instances of abnormally low breathing, during sleep. Each pause in breathing, called an apnea, can last from at least ten seconds to minutes, and may occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour.

I have so many health issues that no one can tell me why. I had an in home sleep study done and just got these results. Is this mild? Can it explain my severe fatigue every single day and my insomnia at night no matter how tired I am? I have severe body weakness and joint pain that only gets worse and worse. They are recommending a cpap and I don't want to get ahead of myself but I'm praying it works well and gives me some relief. I'm a 29 year old mom of two who went from working construction to not being able to function and pretty much homebound. Had to quit working and I haven't drove a vehicle in a year and a half because I'm so tired and have brain fog and disassociate and just didn't feel safe anymore.
Any insight would be so helpful.
Results showed 25 obstructive events, 55 hypopnea events, and oxygen dipping down to 84%, and average heart rate around 115 bpm.
TIA ❤️
Really want to avoid cpap and currently working on weight loss
But in the meantime what can patients with this condition do alleviate symptoms and get better sleep?
Found these vids on yt but idk if they work, has anyone tried before? Anyone have any tips and advices?

My PCP had me track my BP for two weeks and then wear a BP monitor on my wrist for 24 hours that took it every 15 minutes. My BP is extremely high 180/110 especially in the morning. It goes down some once I take my CCB. So she suspects I have sleep apnea. My husband of 25-years has sleep apnea with a CPAP. I am actually hoping I DO have sleep apnea, so I can focus on getting the night time BP lower. I have a telehealth appointment Thursday and they say if they determine I should have a sleep study, they will schedule it right away. My husband is terrible about upgrading his equipment and I honestly think the CPAP is not helping. If I have sleep apnea, will the first thing they offer me will be a traditional CPAP (or BiPap?) Do you have to go through all those before they let you consider the no mask machines or the mouth guards? If I automatically get a CPAP first, what will it be? Make model, etc? And is all this contingent on insurance? Thanks for your help.
I was just diagnosed today with OSA not sure what to make of my scores but they labeled it as mild. My symptoms over the past 2 years have been: depersonalization-derealisation, brain fog, extreme anxiety, panic attacks, depression, aches and pains everywhere, lightheadedness, and just feel like clumsy now with everything I do.
Please tell me these symptoms will resolve once this is treated, they ordered the CPAP today waiting for it to come in. I’ve been to every specialist and they wrote it off as anxiety and nothing else.. I was in the hospital numerous times due to my mental health when all this time my physical symptoms caused my mental breakdown.. I advocated to get this sleep study.. never stop fighting for yourself.
OSA (obstructive sleep apnea)/2. Excessive daytime sleepiness PSG with mild obstructive sleep apnea, AHI 8.2 events/hour, RDI 13.6 events/hour, nadir saturation 81%, time spent below 90% was 1.5%.
MSLT showed that the patient slept during 5 of the 5 nap trials with a decreased mean sleep latency of 3.1 minutes. There were 4 out of 5 SOREMP's during the nap trials for a mean REM latency of 12.6 minutes.
Bless you all, Happy Holiday.
I’ve slept next him in bed for over 4 years and this is definitely a more recent development. The first couple years we were together he rarely snored, and he definitely never did this puffing thing. Maybe about a year and a half ago it started which is why I think something is going on. It’s constantly on and off through the night and it’s so annoying. He breaths in with his mouth closed, then breaths out puffing his mouth making a “p” sound. He snores somewhat regularly too now. He will sleep a long time and still be so exhausted. He’s complaining all the time how tired he is. So if there is potential this could be sleep apnea I’d love to convince to consider it and get a sleep study. Has anyone else with sleep apnea been told they do this puffing thing??!
For the past several months, I've had somewhat fragmented sleep. It's improved gradually, but I still wake up a few times a night for seemingly no reason. Some nights, I'll wake up several times, though that seems to be happening less and less. I have my EPR set to ON and at 2. It was set to 3. I noticed a very slight improvement.
Here's last night's analytics. One of my better nights. Oscar graphs: https://imgur.com/a/bKH4oMP
I had a second sleep study done over this past summer. Again, low AHI, but still not fully rested. I had about a dozen or so RERAs and some snoring. Is there anything that jumps out at any of you? Any improvements I could make?
Hi folks,
So, I was diagnosed back in August with moderate OSA (25 AHI). My oxygen levels were all in a normal range during the study and seem to continue to be so (based off of my apple watch... I realize it's not 100% accurate). I did a 3 month conservative approach following my first consultation after my first sleep study. Dr said because my oxygen never dropped below 93 I could try conservative measures (side sleeping, nose strips, room humidifier etc). I did a second consultation and they said I could continue with another 3 month conservative approach... I opted to try CPAP therapy in hopes that it will provide some improvements in my overall sleep (and overall health improvements moving forward). I don't have many of the typical symptoms but do seem to wake up a fair bit (again, according to my apple watch sleep app). I have my second sleep study (CPAP fitting/titration) scheduled for January, likely get a machine/mask in Feb to start the journey.
My question is this... I realize that it takes some time to adapt to CPAP and that process can potentially leave people fatigued for some time while adjustment takes place. Since I have an option to continue with another 3 month conservative approach with follow ups I'm wondering if I should hold off on starting CPAP till summer. I'm a teacher and have July and Aug off. This would give me (hopefully) more time to adapt without it affecting my work day.
Any thoughts?
Thanks! : )
In USA, France and Australia jaw surgeons have recently denounced premolar extractions for causing sleep apnea in at least 40 percent of their clients.

When i sleep on my back my average AHI is 22, or else its around 12.
If i sleep on my side and get around AHI 12, will i feel slightly better as i have AHI 10 less than sleeping supine?
Has anyone been tested and gotten a positive diagnosis after getting a high RBC and hematocrit? My RBC was 5.11 (above 5.10 is high) and hematocrit was 47.3 (above 45.0 is high)
Ok, funny terms for when you conciously, or unconciously, rip your mask off. "Free Sleepin"?
Hello all. My wife and I are fairly confident that I have been suffering from sleep apnea that is gradually getting worse. I'd like to get a sleep study done and see about getting a CPAP or similar treatment.
My issue is that I don't have insurance, so this venture will be entirely out of pocket. I am prepared to incur the expenses, but that doesn't mean I don't want to find the most affordable option. I also do not have a regular physician, so I don't have a doctor to recommend me to any particular specialist or anything, so I'm investigating this on my own and seeing if anyone else has gone a similar route.
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations of what route to take to keep things affordable, but guarantee I'm getting proper diagnosis? I've seen lots of affordable at-home tests online. Are these legit, or should I go the route of actually going to a lab for an overnight study? Will the at home tests have options to follow up with purchasing machines if necessary, or are they just for "yes or no" diagnosis purposes, and then I'd still have to go in and see someone anyways if a machine is needed?
Anyone know any good sellers of TSD in Australia?
There are solutions to apnea but obviously they are specific to the spot where the obstruction is. How can I figure out which it is? I know it's not central.
Hello everyone,
I have good adherence to my cpap, low AHI, and I use it for about 7-8 hours per night. But it doesn’t help with my fatigue. My doctor doesn’t understand why it’s not helping with my fatigue and just says I’m depressed or something lol.
But I realized that I don’t dream when I use my Cpap. It’s been so long since I dreamed. Could this mean that I’m not going into restful sleep?
Can anyone recommend a good smart watch to track oxygen levels at night? I’ll need one for activity tracking also, but I’d like to have one that can track my apnea, heart rate etc which one has worked very well for you and is worth it? Thanks!
I had a sleep study done at home but the results were inconclusive so I will need to go in the office to do an overnight sleep study but that won't be until three weeks from now. I was told they found an event where I had 70% oxygen level but said it may be a fluke. I sure hope it is but then I noticed today that I don't inhale often. On average when laying down in bed like right now I inhale 8 times a minute. I exhale to the point where it feels like I'm holding my breath but that's where it goes and I'm not forcing anything. I'm scared to sleep but I've been this way for as long as I remember so maybe I shouldn't worry but idk now. Any advice on what to do or what your experiences have been would be wonderful. Thank you for your time 🙏
Hello,
Have anyone used sleeping sprays by hoop? Does it improve your sleep?
I am having sleep trouble for past one year due to anxiety of not being in relationship/getting married and family problems, I m 30+ male.
Or should I go for medication?
Without getting into the numerous health issues I have, keeping my CPAP clean is nearly impossible. On top of that, I'm a side sleeper so the mask is always uncomfortable no matter what one I use. Looking at alternatives, my options are a month guard or surgery. I can try the mouth guard but I'm not sure if that's a good idea since recently my jaw has been popping, around the TMJ area. I feel like a mouth guard would make it worse. And it seems like everyone agrees that surgery isn't really effective.... Is there nothing else? I'm on a new medication to lose weight and I know that might help, but if it doesn't am I just screwed?
Was wondering if anyone knows what’s wrong with it. I’m guessing it’s broken but not sure where to take it to be repaired.
My wife has mild/moderate sleep apnea and just recently bought a ResMed CPAP machine (I'm not sure of the model, her sleep clinic recommended it to her). She uses it with a nose mask (she tried full face mask but it didn't feel good to her, nor did a different nose mask she tried).
Normally, everything's pretty quiet. What happens though is that she's a back sleeper, and when she rolls onto her back, the area around her mask starts sounding like it's got an air leak...there's a whooshing noise that's sort of in time with her breathing. If I sort of shake her a bit, the noise stops abruptly, but then resumes very soon afterward.
She's got an app that shows apparently the mask seal is good. The sleep clinic has no explanation for the noise and they say everything the machine is measuring looks fine. My wife's theory is that when her mouth opens, the pressure increases, causing the noise. She's tried one of those jaw straps that closes the mouth, but I guess it's not working for whatever reason.
I really don't want to have to wear earplugs to bed every night. Any ideas? :( I can post a video of the noise if anyone wants to hear it.
I use a BiPap machine and I'm trying to dial in the settings. But for some reason lately it's like I feel weird pressures in my cardiovascular system with my left arm almost like numb and tingles. Also somewhat I feel like a percolation in my blood stream. Idk if its anxiety or something significant, but my brain just sends alarms and makes me scared of using the machine until I get my settings dialed in. Idk what's happening.
Anyone have similar experience?
Been on my cpap for about two years with no issues. Diagnosis was moderate with ahi of 15. However the past couple weeks have been hell. The aerophagia from the cpap has gotten so bad that I believe its created a case of diverticulosis. Im wondering if anyone else has had these types od issues and what helped them. Tonight Im trying an upright position with no cpap.
Hi all. I wanted to share my ongoing experience and hopefully find some answers.
For around 2 years I have been having severe sleep problems. I get a very weird sensation in my right lung. It's a horrible feeling. It feels like a tickle, or small spiders in there.
The sensation build up and up, getting stronger and completely unbearable. I cant say it's a pain, its really uncomfortable, and I can't cope with the sensation.
As the sensation increases it feels like their is no room in the air.
I get a massive urge to jump up and gasp for air , I do this, lie down again and it starts again. It's back to back constantly all night until I guess my body gives in due to exhaustion?
I cant sleep. I'm.so tired. It's really scary. I also get a really uncomfortable feeling across my shoulder blade and around, same side..
I've been back and forth to the doctors and they say it's anxiety. I have anxiety this isn't it.
Could this be sleep apnea?
I am not diagnosed but I have high suspicion and I'm getting a study done, one symptom I have though is so odd and I can't find much information about it.
The only way for me to describe it is basically puffing my breath out of my mouth like I'm blowing out a candle or something. My wife catches me doing this and sometimes when I'm falling asleep or waking up I notice myself doing it. I don't know if this is related to OSA or just something weird I do.
I have really bad tmj and I think a tongue tie release will help my situation but I do have a narrow palate and ressced jaws so I don't want to further worsen my sleep apnea when I don't have tongue space. What do you guys have to say thanks......
I recently had an at home sleep study and my AHI essentially came back not a problem but my pRDI came back as 12.1. Would it be worth it to push for an in person sleep study? I'm not well researched on the topic but I have a large family history of it and I really want to get to the bottom of my symptoms.
I’m 17f, and was “diagnosed” with sleep apnea and now have a CPAP. And I’ve never been one to be superstitious, but I truly think they misdiagnosed me or are just trying to get money.
I don’t snore, nor have I even snored. I never wake up gasping for air. No one has noticed passing in my breathing while I sleep or choking. I don’t have any of these issues, and people have reported that to me. I don’t wake up with a dry mouth or sore throat. And this is all 100% true, I have none of these symptoms.
The only thing I have is daytime sleepiness and waking up throughout the night. But again, when I wake up I don’t feel out of breath. I just wake up randomly. I can only see myself having like, insomnia and hypersomnia. I fall asleep a lot throughout the day and am exhausted. But I’ve also been told I could have just narcolepsy type two or whatever that is.
I also have a range of other issues, like depression and ADHD and a whole lot of other stuff which also could attribute to my sleepiness. But I take my meds so dw, but again that could also attribute too.
I’m not embarrassed about the CPAP or anything. I’ve tried so many different head pieces, nose pieces, modes, etc, and nothing works. I’ve been on it for around a month and a half. And it is just so uncomfortable, and I still wake up throughout the night. It has not helped with anything. My sleep has not gotten any better. Any thoughts about this? I don’t want to sound like those people who always refuse their diagnoses, but I can’t understand this one.
Diagnosed with mild sleep apnea with a home study( ahi was about 7 and insurance refused an in lab study). Been using cpap consistently for 3 weeks now with no improvement in symptoms. My cpap is also reading that I am having 0 obstructive events but my average ahi is still about 8 with all central events. Can’t get in with the sleep doctor for three months. Any suggestions ?
My sleep study was scheduled for next month but had to be rescheduled for the Spring. I suffer insomnia and sleep apnea. Sometimes I get a normal 8/9 hours. And sometimes I'll sleep 20 hours, and get a small wake break, sleep another excessive amount, be awake for maybe 8 hours. Sleep another 8-16. That was me this weekend. I missed two shifts at work. And I slept through the whole weekend (Friday-Sunday)
I saw a sleep specialist today about my excessive sleep and he said that it's not out of the norm for someone with untreated apnea to sleep excessively. He said that without the sleep test and diagnosis he can't give me advice on what to do.
I'm getting sick of missing days at a time. Does anyone have any advice on holistic treatment until I get the machine later next year? I have nasal strips which might help. I'm a mouth breather at night so the strips help with that, I think. Any other advice would be great.
I just can't wait to get a machine later.
