God Butcher, an Elder Scrolls story (Skyrim fan-fiction)

NOTE (This a head canon of events continuing well after a specific playthrough of Skyrim. The events of the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and all of its vanilla content, including DLC's [Dawnguard, Dragonborn, Hearthfire] exist within this storyline, a fan fiction, and exists solely for entertainment. (This particular storyline is called "God Butcher", beginning in 4E 277, after the "Companion" crisis in 4E 216, after the events of "Dragonborn", of which encompasses all experiences within the Skyrim video game, including canonical/non-canon experiences pertaining to Nethusi No-Name of Solstheim, later known as Gorr, the Black Butcher of Skyrim. (These tales chronicle the last Dragonborn on Nirn, his struggles to defeat the Thalmor, a World Eater, mad vampires, bandits, forest faeries, all on top of a life weighed down with destined responsibility, power, loss, and love. (NOTE. These tales are of my own strange, sometimes nonsensical take on the Elder Scrolls series as a fan, and are in now way meant to offend or pirate the works of Bethesda and the Elder Scrolls video game series. Please feel free to comment and critique.)

4E 277 Lakeview Manor   A fleeting scarlet sun sets over the horizon, bathing the northern sky in resplendent red clouds. A carriage pulls away from the palace, carting an aging couplet of orphans saved from a bitter childhood decades before. They turn and smile at a gray skinned man watching from the balcony. He waves, kindly, and takes a tired breath as his children disappear into the woodland dusk. His crimson eyes leer downwards, observing an opulent ebony headstone at the foot of his garden. A mighty shield sits beside the grave, and beneath, the bones of a once great warrior. He had met this woman long ago and accepted her wolfish blood into his very veins, allowing his heart to swell with affection for the first time in eras. Her name was Aela, and they were married nearly seventy years earlier. The God Butcher returns inside, hearing the quiet hum of an empty home. He recalls his time with the Huntress, his darling; how they would drink and know each other in the early summer mornings atop the palace’s tower. He remembers the soft voices of his children beckoning for adventure and love and gifts and gold, the tapping of a dog’s tail against the dinner table. What was once a warm abode filled with merriment and the promise of love is now all but abandoned and hollow; a tomb for an aging warrior who’s mortal loves are destined to die before him. The Dragon of the North, Gorr, fills his horn with cool mead and passes through his chambers. He runs his fingers over trophies from varying Jarls and Daedra alike, eyeing precious armors and crafted weapons from a time long past. He fills himself with nostalgia and ale, drinking to remember and forget simultaneously. He laughs before a chest filled with scales and bones. He studies the angled masks of ancient priests, a book bound in elven skins, a staff wriggling with small tentacles. He slumps to the ground with his horn in hand, feeling a swell of righteous pride and overwhelming grief. He had done so much years before, and yet there were no more adventures to be had. Gone were the days of danger and dragons. He had seen to the end of the World Eater, banishing the monster into the darkest recesses of time and space. He saved the sun from a mad vampire, defeated the first Dovahkiin at the summit of a forbidden realm. He had liberated the Nordic homeland and defended its borders against the Legion and Thalmor alike. Gorr took advantage of this peace and cultivated his family with the Huntress, feeling the tender embrace of family for the first time since he was a small boy. With his children grown and elderly, with his beloved buried, within an empty palace, Gorr drowns his memories in ale. He curses the Divines in drunken fits, crying hysterically, laughing to himself. He begs the demon of knowledge to strain his mind and remove all thoughts of his absent family. He pleads the god of time to send him back to earlier days, if even for a moment, to see his wife before existence took its toll. With a broken, ageless heart, the drunken God Butcher entreats every known power to end his suffering indefinitely.
