Best boxing gyms?

I live in Pretoria east and I want to learn how to box. Does anyone know any good boxing gyms in the area? I’d eventually like to start sparring too.

Ford geeks and nuts - Help?...

Dearest Ford geeks of, from and in Pretoria. I have recently acquired a low-km Ford Ecosport Titanium, and looking to attach a tow-hitch to the Blue-wildebeest.

Attaching the hitch is no problem, but I'm not a fan of the wiring jobs these people do, I have heard and seen horror stories on the wiring side, endless electrical problems (for some).

I dug deeper on the subject, and found that Ford left connectors and wiring just there, and was probably only one harness for all trim-levels.

I have found the wiring for the tow-module, under the passenger back seat, got access to a PDF document documenting the pinout on each pin and connector. I can confirm that the wires are there for CAN, etc, but will have to verify if the one connector circuit is hot/switched. (12v power)

I want to get the tow-module for this car, and just install it, to keep everything in spec, as the manufacturer intended, along with the 7-pin trailer connector.

Has anyone done something like this before? My car has the spot for the tow-module, probably just plug and play installation?

I did some Ford things in the past, such as replacing the ACM on a Kuga, recoding some as-built values for the ACM, and it was working.

I do have a Forscan cable, it is working rather nicely, and coded some values for the Ecosport too, such as the powered socket to turn off after 5 seconds, not an hour. I also enabled some features on my Fiesta (since been sold), and done some service procedures as well on the Kuga. (Also been sold)

Is there someone I can talk to, call up, or something, to see if this endeavor is possible?

Life in Pretoria and South Africa in general

Hello everyone! I am in my 30's and was born in Pretoria South Africa, and emigrated to Canada 10 years ago. While life in Canada has many advantages, and I am forever grateful for what it's afforded me, I still find that a part of my heart longs for Africa. Sometimes these feelings are so unnerving because it causes me to doubt that emigrating and uprooting my life was worth it. No one aside from a born and bred African understands the pull of the Motherland on your heart. Help me make sense of it please. What is life like in 2025 in Pretoria, and SA in general? Did the country go downhill even more, or is everything fine?

Here are some pros and cons about living in Canada...

The upsides of Canada: -I emigrated with my household, so my parents and siblings are here -I did my post-secondary here, went to a well-respected school for my studies (Interior Design), I have a decent job, and have established a career network. Interior Design is a perfectly adequate profession here, whereas in SA, I think I would probably be looked down upon for not being something more 'grand' like an Architect, etc. -Canada has universal healthcare, and I never have to worry about paying for necessary medical treatment -The police are actually competant and can do their jobs. They also DO make you feel safer by just being around, whereas in SA, you have to ask yourself just how far down the corruption route each individual officer could be -Safety in general. Canada is so safe. I don't have to think twice about leaving my house at night to go somewhere. If I found myself alone in a parking lot at night, chances are, it would be just fine. If I wanted my window to be wide open at night, my biggest concern would be the bugs flying in. Driving alone as a women, at night, downtown, is not a problem. You get the idea... -AMAZON. You can get just about anything delivered to your door -Proximity to the US. Visiting the US is far easier and cheaper from here than from SA. American products are more readily available than they would be in SA. -Currency. I earn in Canadian Dollars.Technically, on the global scale, I am at a financial advantage compared to many of my peers in SA. Also, travelling internationally is far more accessible from here than it would be from SA. -I am a Canadian citizen, so my passport gets me into most countries worth visiting. A sad exception is North Korea, which I would love to visit. Just kidding

The downsides of Canada: -The weather...oh my gosh. Please never take another day of sunshine and heat for granted. Some of us would kill for that weather again -The average level of intelligence (of actual Canadians...we're excluding the smart immigrants) seems lower than what it was in South Africa. General intelligence is horrifyingly low in the Canadian Gen Z generation. -This is related to the previous point, but general appreciation for the arts and literacy is much lower here, and it shows in the general intelligence level. Perhaps it was the circle I moved in when I lived in SA, but the appreciation for playing an instrument, and reading good literature was higher than what it is here. -The humour is just not the same. South Africans can find the humour in just about anything. -Sometimes as an immigrant, you just don't fit. You think differently, you act differently. It can be extremely unsettling. Sometimes, I long for that old sense of just being at peace. However, that could also have been as a result of being a very young adult, unaquainted with the stresses and responsibilities of adult life.

I hope I haven't lost anyone along the way, but these are just some of my thoughts about my situation. I apologize if it sounds like I'm complaining about many things I should in fact be grateful for, but sometimes it just helps to put your thoughts out there and ask for feedback. Any questions or comments would be appreciated.

Cheers

Job hunting as a recent engineering grad—what actually works?

Hi everyone! :) .. I recently graduated from the university of Pretoria with a degree mechanical engineering however I’ve been struggling to find any sort of job. I’ve applied on LinkedIn and Pnet etc and haven’t really received much feedback.

I was wondering if anyone else has been in the same position and what worked for you or if you know any companies around Gauteng that hire fresh graduates even if it’s an unpaid intern position I’m willing to gain the experience for now.

Must Do Things

Hello everyone. So I am moving to PTA on Saturday and I was hoping that I could get some guidance from long time residents and locals on cool things to do. I think I was in PTA last in like 1999 so I am basically a blank slate. Any recommendations (restaurants, bars, museums, theatres, parks, sports) would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone could recommend any gyms around Mucklenuek besides virgin active zone and planet fitness that would also be greatly appreciated!

Help me pay my outstanding university fees 🙏🏾

Good afternoon

I hope this message finds you well. I’m reaching out to share my current situation and ask for your support. I’m struggling to cover my outstanding university fees as showed in the screenshot. Education is incredibly important to me, and I’m determined to complete my studies.

Recently, I shared my story on Reddit, and many supportive individuals advised me to create this GoFundMe page. I truly appreciate any assistance you can offer, no matter how small. Even a contribution as little as R5 can make a significant difference in my journey.

If you can’t contribute financially, sharing this message with your network would mean the world to me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Your support means everything!

Here are the account details for the university, please use 202001443(My student number) as a reference number when making the payment.

Account name: SMU

Bank name: Standard Bank

Account no.: 071244395

Branch no.: 020909

Ref no.: 202001443

Warm regards,
Joy

Last Resort Cry For Help

Hello,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to reach out and share a bit of what I’m going through in the hope that someone may be able to offer advice or assistance.

I’m a second-year IT student, majoring in Network Engineering, and I’ve been fortunate to have support in terms of moving and securing a job. However, there’s a major obstacle standing in my way right now: I still owe R4k for rent and have additional fees for lab access, which amount to R3.6k. While I can handle the lab fees over time, the rent is a more urgent issue. I negotiated with the finance department, and they agreed that if I can pay the outstanding lab fees, I’ll be allowed to return to class. However, the problem is, I don’t have the money to pay those fees at the moment, and there’s a very real risk that I could be kicked out of both my home and my job.

I had to borrow money just to secure this place last year, and despite reaching out to family, friends, and even my boss, no one is in a position to offer any help. Unfortunately, this even extends to small things like transport since I work a night shift job, it's difficult to manage without assistance.

I feel incredibly helpless and overwhelmed, as it seems like no matter what I do, things only get worse. I constantly ask myself if I should just pack up and go home, but if I do that, I risk losing my job, which I’m on probation for, and with a promotion potentially on the line, the stakes are high.

As for rent, I’m struggling to make ends meet. I’ve been applying for loans since December and throughout January, but I’ve had no luck. I’ve even tried pawning some of the little belongings I have left. To make things even harder, I’m dealing with chronic depression and ADHD, which significantly affect my ability to stay motivated and optimistic about the future.

If anyone is in a position to help: whether through financial assistance for the lab fees or my living costs, or even advice on ways to manage these challenges, it would truly mean the world to me. I’m doing my best to stay focused and push through, but I’m feeling incredibly overwhelmed and uncertain about what comes next.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and I truly appreciate any support you might be able to offer.

Warm regards,

A 21-year-old trying to figure out his next steps

Thank you in advance.

Looking to Make Friends That I could Learn Afrikaans from

Hi... I (32BM) mostly speak English and French. Been learning Zulu and I think I got the basics right. I speak swahili as well and I can see the similarities between Bantu languages. Makes it easy to understand some things.

I would Like to learn Afrikaans and for that, I need a circle that speaks it. I wanna be able to say more than "eks boerewors nie"

I'm the nerdy typa guy, outside of work, I am mostly at home designing electronic hardware, but go on adventures here and there, with tons of solo restaurant....

I'm trying to get back into cycling. Did a lot of it back in high school... (please sell me your bike...lol)

I play video games too, for those interested, mostly shooters. COD, Battlefield, Rainbow Six Siege....stuff like that...

I love stuff like shooting ranges, Acrobranch, bungees, Hikes and the likes.

I play Basketball, although it's been some time.

I stay in the east, specifically Olympus AH.

If you wouldn't mind making an extra friend, please shout...

I need some guidance & friendship advice

I've been friends with this girl for more than 10 years. We have an excellent friendship and are best friends. We have the type of friendship where nothing is TMI, we can give and take criticism without too much fuss and if we do argue then we talk it out and move on.

She started dating this guy in about the middle of 2023. I'm not the biggest fan of this guy because he's clingy, weird, creepy, has no ambition and not to be rude but he's dumb af. He hasn't got his matric. He works at a retail job with no capacity for growth and it doesn't look like he's trying to make his life any better. I really don't mean to be rude and look down on anyone's job but I feel that you should have some ambition to better your circumstances if they're not great.

He's about 25 and lived with his parents until he very recently moved out. The reason he moved out is because my friend wanted to break up with him due to his lack of ambition. She was crying to me about it and I told her to tell him what the problem is and at least give him the chance to better himself for her. His way of solving that problem? He moved out and got his parents to pay for most of his rent.

So now to my friend. She's 21, has a really good job with a great possibility for growth. She's hardworking and ambitious. It might sound like I'm biased but if I didn't think that I would have called her on her sht. She's been talking to this other guy somewhere else in the country for years now. They were an online fwb thing before her and her bf got together. Since they've been together she doesn't send him any photos but he'll send her some. And she entertains it!

In the same breath of telling me about that other guy, she tells me that her and her bf want to be more serious. Fast forward about 3 months and she's planning on moving from her hometown and parents house to live with her bf. Keep in mind this is her first time moving out of the house anddd he's her first boyfriend.

So sorry for the looong explanation but now we get to the thing that I need some guidance on. The other day she phones me and tells me that she told her bf that he can ask her to marry anytime he wants. (Her and I have always believed that these things should take time and that you should be with someone for at least a few years before getting engaged and married) So they're planning on getting engaged later this year and married next year possibly. Who is going to pay for the wedding?? Not him

I'm sorry but I don't think it is a good decision. He's her first bf, they've hardly been together and for a lot of it they were on the verge of breaking up, he has no ambition and she has boatloads, they're only going to be living together for 3 or 4 months before getting engaged... I just feel like this is hearing to a divorce or an unhappy marriage.

Am I in the wrong? Am I wrong for feeling like this isn't the right decision? I am aware that I am not in a position to tell her to not do it and that is why Im telling you guys instead of her. I'm just feeling conflicted because shouldn't I as her best friend be excited for her and support her without question?

Please help.

Tooth broke, I’m broke

I chewed a fry and a piece of tooth broke off, one that the dentist fixed in December. This is just so depressing.

I don’t have medical aid and paying out of pocket is expensive.

I grind on my teeth at night, suffering from TMJ (temperomandibular joint disorder). It can be very painful.

The tooth was a root canal. I’m scared the dentist will pull the tooth as it sits too close to the jaw bone. Biggest fear I’ve had for years.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Anyone have similar struggles?

Any advice on good medical aides?

I just want to vent and maybe get some advice

Hello

I hope you guys are well. I just wanted to vent for a bit. I am a recent Medical Science Honors graduate and have been accepted to do Masters. The thing is that I still owe R90k for the honors degree and I'm unable to register. However, I negotiated with the finance person and we got to the agreement that if I paid the registration fee,I would be able to register but the registration fee is R4.5k. I don't have that kind of money, I had to borrow money just to get to the university. I tried all my family and friends and they all don't have it

I feel helpless because whatever I do, feels like I'm just making things worse. I don't see any progress in my life.Should I pack up and go home? I keep asking myself that. If I do continue with this masters, will I get funding with my 63% average? If not, what am I going to eat here? What do I do? I Also Don't want to stay at home. It is frustrating for me, I have been sending job applications for the entire December and this month. I didn't even get a single interview. I would Also like to note that I stuffer from chronic depression and it is not nice.

Regards a 24y/o contemplating her life choices
