I have applied to CSUSB, CSUF, CSUCI, and CSUS for the upcoming Fall 2025 semester. If I have a 3.8 GPA, all my pre-req science courses are A's except Physio B, and have a 92% on my TEAS. No work experience as CNA or volunteer and not a bilingual. What is the likelihood I will get accept? After reading this subreddit I feel as if my application doesn't stand out as I don't have any experience or speak another language.
guys i need tips! i start nursing school in a month and IM stressing!! im such an anxious person. I need tips on how to survive and maybe even thrive in school. Anything helps
Hello!
I recently confirmed an interview time/date for a local BSN program. However, they require submission of a resume in advance as part of the evaluation process, and I'm not sure if there's a particular format that should be followed (such as in a CV) or if a normal work history resume is what they're looking for? I asked the program director and was told they could not provide any direction on the matter.
If anyone has experience or advice that would be appreciated!!
Hello guys I'm a pre nursing student who in spring will be taking my last pre requisites. Unfortunately though I have 0 work experience related to this such as CNA MA etc because I made a career change from one that was completely not related to the health sciences to now nursing. My question is how hard would it be to get into a nursing program, mainly a CC nursing program without this type of work experience? Most applications I see give points for having this type of work experience so im gonna be missing those points. How should I go about this?
After applying to ABSN programs the second time and completing my prereqs, I got in! Most schools were rlly good at updating me abt my status of admission, but one school ghosted me lol. I am excited to start my program this upcoming January! I plan on keeping my job while in school. I just wanted to share the news with like-minded individuals. Thank you for reading.
so this month i'll be starting my pre-reqs for nursing school. i've been wanting to leave my current job, bad, but i of course need work while i'm in school. i was looking into cna jobs or medical assistant jobs, but the ones I've been seeing at my local hospitals require licensure or a certificate. How would I go about that while I'm already working and enrolled in school? Hopefully I'm making sense. Thanks in advance!
Hello, I am a pre-nursing student working as a medical assistant at a doctor’s office. It’s been just a month since I started this new career in the medical field.
I applied for this job because they were willing to hire someone with no experience or license. During the interview, my manager assured me that everyone would teach me step by step.
However, this office is incredibly overwhelming every single day. It’s mentally draining, especially dealing with patients. Many of them are constantly complaining and arguing because they urgently want to make same-day appointments with their primary doctors, but our office doesn’t allow walk-ins.
For example, some patients will call and say, “Can I walk in TODAY? No? Why not? I’ve been seeing my primary doctor here for 10 years!” even after I’ve explained that walk-ins are not allowed.
I know our office is much busier than others, but I’m completely exhausted handling what feels like 100+ phone calls an hour. I don’t know the exact number, but it seems like the front desk gets 3–5 calls every second, sometimes all at once.
As for my coworkers at the front desk, they’re nice people, but a few of them ask me to answer phone calls for them because I’m fluent in English. While my manager and supervisor also speak English, they don’t step in to help with calls. I don’t understand why.
At first, I didn’t mind helping because these coworkers put in effort to teach me during my first few weeks. But now, I’m swamped with my own tasks and can’t keep up with answering phone calls for them.
The problem is that the more I pick up calls, the less my coworkers seem to answer, even when the phones are ringing like crazy. One day, a coworker even complained that I wasn’t picking up enough calls, even though I’d answered more than they had.
On top of that, whenever I make a mistake, my coworkers are quick to blame me. I understand I’m new and still learning, but it feels like they’ve forgotten that I’ve only been here a month. The workload and pressure are overwhelming, and it’s causing me to make mistakes despite being a detail-oriented person.
When I do mess up, patients complain, my coworkers don’t help, and I’m left to deal with the consequences on my own. It’s a vicious cycle, and I feel like I’m constantly under immense pressure with no room to breathe.
Even though I took a break for Thanksgiving from Thursday to Sunday, I decided to take two more unpaid days off because I’ve run out of energy. I’ve never needed unpaid breaks in any of my previous jobs, no matter how stressful they were.
So, I have a couple of questions:
1. Does a nurse usually work the front desk?
2. If I don’t like working the front desk, can I still become a nurse in the future?
By the way, I love clinical work because I genuinely enjoy helping people. But sitting at the front desk, answering endless phone calls, is just not for me. Unfortunately, at this job, I have to do both clinical and front-desk tasks, and it’s proving to be too much for me.
I really wish I enjoyed front-desk work, but I don’t.
I need teas advice!! Where do I practice?? Are the quizlets a good source?
Hey guys! Is anyone taking Portage Laerning Chemistry II w/ Schiren? I'ts a bit horrible and no trace of anything in quizlet or coursehero. Are you struggling too?
I am about to start my third semester of my pre-nursing degree and am set to apply for my nursing program this time next year. I just don’t think I want to stay on that path. I am struggling so much with just the four classes I have this semester, and I don’t think I will be able to handle the actual nursing program. I know I don’t want to work in a hospital, as I am not a fan of the hospital atmosphere. My plan was to go into corrections as a nurse since there are two different prisons and a county jail within 20 minutes of where I live.
I am 25. I started college a little late after having a baby right out of high school. Once he started school, I decided I would too because I would have the free time. I am a certified phlebotomy technician and left the job I did have at the hospital to pursue my education. My boyfriend is super supportive and has taken all the financial responsibility while I pursue my education. Since I have put in the effort and spent the money, I know I need to finish something, but I don’t know what.
If I did change majors, I don’t even know what I would switch to. I have tossed around education (specifically becoming a high school history teacher), but I know that comes with the same stress and less pay. I have thought about forensic science, but I know those classes are even more difficult than what I am taking currently. I also have considered criminology and criminal justice, as that is a special interest to me, but I don’t even know what jobs I could get with that.
I feel like I am in a rut. I don’t want to drop out, but I don’t know what I want to do anymore. I thought I had everything figured out a year ago, but currently, I am just stuck in a place between “just do it” and “I shouldn’t have gotten myself into this.”
Hello! I’m taking the TEAS test on Friday, and even though I feel fairly confident about it I’m nervous about the science section. I’m a medical assistant so I have a good background in A&P, but I was wondering specifically what I should be focusing on? What should I mainly be studying? I’ve been studying consistently for 3 weeks, but I wanna make sure I’m well prepared
Hi everyone! As many of you likely know, the CSU nursing programs are extremely competitive, and I’m considering whether I should also apply to ADN programs here in SoCal. While these programs are competitive as well, I’ve heard that they tend to offer more seats, which might increase my chances of admission. I was considering just applying to the CSUs but I’m nervous.
I’m applying as a transfer student from a cc for Fall 2025, and here are my current stats:
Any advice or insights for applying in the Fall 2025 cycle would be greatly appreciated! Wishing the best of luck to everyone applying. :)
Hi everyone, for those of you who have taken the TEAS or are currently studying for it, do you have any tips and tricks to memorize the geometry formulas and/or conversions? If anyone is willing to share their cheat sheets I would appreciate it so much 🙏
Hi everyone! Is anyone on here applying this Spring for Fall 2025 cohorts at Miracosta, Palomar, or Grossmont? If so, what are your stats & how many points do you have? I’m getting preapplication anxiety!!!!
And for everyone who has applied in the past, and got accepted or rejected, what were your stats like & how many points did you have? Please let me know!
i'm hoping to take the teas in may and i've been studying pretty hard, especially because it's been a long time since i was in school. however, i've been using a 2020-2021 study guide that my mother used when she took the test (i am a little tight on funds atm and this was ofc free). she got a good score with the guide and ive been using supplemental materials in addition to the book, but i was curious if you all think it's worth it to buy a newer study guide.
Hi everyone, I am prepping for TEAS, anyone has tips on what materials to study?
Hi all, I'm getting all my pre-reqs and other things figured out and I'm just feeling a little out of it with all the pre-reqs. I've googled what they are and it's a super long list, which was expected, but is there a site I can go to to see a comprehensive list with all the pre-reqs for nursing school on it? If it's any help I'll be going into a peds oncology nursing field once I'm able to, and maybe becoming a travel nurse after that? Sorry if this is a bad question, just wanting to get a plan in order so I can really start looking into schools and stuff! Thank you in advance if anyone does reply ^^
I’ve been lurking in this sub & the Student Nurse sub for awhile. I finished my prerequisites earlier this year, only applied for one ABSN because the competition for local university/ADNs is insane. Plus I have a previous BS (wanted to get into nursing as efficiently as possible cause I’m oooold) I was waitlisted. Pretty much lost hope of getting in and was planning to reapply for next year, just continue grinding at my job and get more patient care experience. I got the surprise of my life last week and I’m in! (Ugly crying)
I don’t remember who commented this Pell Grant info on which sub, but I had to come back and confirm/share because it could definitely help someone in a similar situation. I filled out my FAFSA. To my utter disbelief, I was able to apply for a Pell Grant.
I had applied to finish my last degree in 2017/18, was only awarded a small amount for my last semester. So small ($760?) that I forgot I had even gotten it. I honestly thought I was just stuck with loan and scholarship options. I have most of my max funds showing still available! I might not get a lot this time, but because my program spans 2 application periods, I can reapply later next year with my change in income, hopefully get a little more.
I hope this helps anyone who might have already finished a first Bachelor’s degree, but still be within the 10 year period of when they last received federal grant money.
Hi everyone. I am needing tips on the TEAS reading portion. I took the teas on Wednesday and unfortunately didn’t do great on the reading portion. Please help. I will have to take it again
Hopefully everyone is doing well with their CSU Nursing applications.
I’m not really understanding where everyone is getting the 90+ TEAS score when a majority (if not all) the CSUs with undergraduate BSN programs say 80-85s are competitive. Volunteer/work hours and GPA also matters too! I’m sure they account for these factors as much as they do for the TEAS.
Don’t lose hope for your applications! Best of luck to all.
The CSU applications are happening atm, I was just wondering if we need to have taken the teas by the time the cal state applications are due. I wanted to apply to sdsu. I have everything done except the teas because I was planning on taking it after December, maybe Jan, due to currently retaking my last prerequisite. If anyone has any advice or experience with timelines with apps and teas please let me know. Thank you.
Hi all! The community colleges near me are so competitive that I am not confident I will get in this round of the ADN program. My TEAS scores are on the lower end and my GPA from my undergrad (bachelor’s in business) isn’t the best. I just feel so rushed going into this program and I feel like waiting for ABSN in either September 2025, January 2026 or May 2026. Either option would have me be an RN by 2027 (ouch, I’d be 27 turning 28!)
If I decide to apply for ABSN, I have to take the following classes: A&P I & II, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Developmental Psychology. I’m thinking on taking 2 in the spring 2025, 1 in summer, and 2 in the fall. All this would be while I’m working at a hospital as a PCT. I might move to another department (I’m currently in med/surg!) throughout the year but this is my plan.
What should I do? Should I push to retake my TEAS (will cost another $120) and hope for the best OR take my time and pursue for my ABSN instead? Money isn’t a big factor — financial aid and scholarships are my friend!
Hello all, I am interested in SDSU Upper division transfer Nursing Program on Fall 2025 and have a good shot at making it. However, I keep seeing that there is a Supplemental Application and I can’t seem to find it. Is there another application other than the general school application on Cal State Apply? If so where can I find it?
Also side note, is there two BSN programs within SDSU? I see there a SDSU BSN program and then an Imperial valley SDSU program so idk if it’s the same or not.
Hello, I'm new to all of this so forgive me if I'm ignorant but I really want to switch careers and nursing really appeals to me. I'm 28 and have been at the same administrative job at an arts nonprofit since I graduated from a small private school in 2018 with a bachelors degree in art history, which was great but I just don't want to be in this field anymore.
I'm looking for a way to begin a career in nursing. I know no one hiring me will care about where I went to school or what path I took. I'm just wondering what the "easiest" path to take is, since I already have an undergrad degree. I've been looking at entry level masters programs, BSN programs, RN programs. I honestly don't know what is the best option? I've taken several prerequisites in the last couple years (biology, psychology, A&P 1, abnormal psychology, statistics, and I'm just finishing up microbiology and principals of chemistry) I want to start as soon as possible but its all so overwhelming trying to figure it out, it seems like every program has something that makes it so I can't apply right away. I want to get out of my rut in this job as soon as possible. Any advice is welcome 😭 (I'm in the twin cities area btw)
I am so distraught… I have completed all my pre reqs, scored a decent grade on the TEAS, and have a good GPA… I literally have met all the school requirements if not more but still got rejected?? I’m honestly shocked by the rejection. I sent a email requesting why I got rejected and also sent an email to the director to appeal my rejection. Such a sad day.
Has anyone taken any courses on PrereqCourses.com in order to fulfill prerequisite requirements for Nursing school? I’m thinking about taking Pathophysiology through it after it was suggested to me by another Pre-nursing student. Did anyone who took courses through PrereqCourses actually learn anything? I don’t want to disadvantage myself by taking it there and struggling later on when I’m in a nursing program.
Hello everyone!
Unfortunately, I did not enter my ultrasound program the first time, but I am applying again in 2025. The last time I took the TEAS I got an 89 using the Mometrix TEAS 7 workbooks. I wonder if I should re-purchase that book or buy the Official ATI TEAS Study guide instead. I'm open to any other workbook as well!
Thank you!
Im currently a CNA (new grad) and want to now pursue LVN. My indecisiveness is between going to a community college (which will be practically free tuition - FAFSA) OR go into a private school(FAFSA wont cover full tuition so personal loan). I know, from your perspective so far... why not choose the free schooling route? Right? I considered that. But for the free schooling route ill have to take pre reqs before even being considered for the program and im not too confident in the pre req classes VS going to a private college , no pre req requirement and its fully intimate for the course. For some backstory context i dropped out of a private school already 2 years ago for surg tech. (It ended up not being my.desired field) so i already have subsidized loan debt for that. I guess due to the extra months of pre req i have to do its convincing me to just do the private school route. Am i being impatient and lazy ? With unnecessary indecisiveness when my answer is right in my face - choosing free college?
hi. i’m a 19yo immigrant who’s trying to get some success in my fucked up life. but college has humbled me so much, i feel dumb 99% of the time, i study so so much for my exams and still get low grades, and the pressure is just getting me. i believe i have ADHD (can’t concentrate on nothing), i’m afraid of not getting into the program, and i’m constantly worried about finances (i have money for absolutely nothing and my parents complain about helping me w ≈ 100 bucks per month for basic needs). i feel so unmotivated to keep trying, i feel like this cycle is never gonna end. i need someone to tell me it gets better, because i honestly don’t know if it actually does.
Hi everyone,
I’m currently considering applying for the Pre-Nursing program at college, and I’m wondering how ACT scores are viewed in the admissions process for this program.
• For those who have applied or are planning to apply, how important do you think the ACT score is for getting into Pre-Nursing?
• Did any of you decide not to submit your ACT scores? If so, how did that affect your application?
I would love to hear about your experiences and any advice you might have. Thanks in advance!
Looking forward to your responses!
