Looking to study for the DAT. Decided on the DAT Crusher as apparently that is the most recommended resource for Canadian DAT. Just wondering if anyone has a code?
Second question: For those that recently got into Canadian Dental Schools. What resources/ combination of resources did you use?
Third Question: Did anyone write both the MCAT and DAT? If so can you share your experiences eg is easier to prepare for the MCAT after writing the DAT and how long did that preparation take? TIA
Hey so im a sophmore in highschool and i really know that i wanna be a dentist later on in the future. Assisting at my clinic, a lot of my patients are kids, and i love each and absolutely every single one of them. If my goal as a dentist in the future is to work with kids, what should i major in? I see a lot of people say not to be peer pressured into taking bio as ur maior, and some say take psychology so you know how to interact with patients.
side note - also doesnt majoring in bio help you with the DAT compared to if you majored in something random ?
What does ranked or not ranked waitlist mean?
which one is better?
Does anyone know how competitive the program is like how many people apply to it cuz ik 10-15 get in but how many apply? Also how hard is the program?
Hey y’all, just submitted my application to BarryU for admission to their MBS program. I have around a 2.7-2.8 gpa and they require a 3.0. I demonstrated an upward trend in my last 3 classes with all A’s and I have about 5 classes finishing up by the end of March that should bring my gpa up to a 3.0-3.1 assuming I get A’s which I am doing pretty well with 4 A’s and 1 B at the moment.
Do yall think I have a chance getting into Barry’s MBS? Not sure if they take a holistic approach to the app but has anyone gotten in with below a 3.0? Since i submitted my app last night they’ll most likely review it soon so I won’t be able to show a higher gpa since my final grades for the remaining 5 classes won’t be in till the end of March… they only see a 2.7 probably
Also: should I wait till end of March -beginning of April to submit the rest of my masters applications to demonstrate a stronger upward trend and increase my uGPA some more? I just don’t want to apply too late in the cycle because this will decrease my chances of getting in since admission are rolling. Any advice?
This may be a stupid question but I've looked other places and they've all said fairly different things, so I thought it'd be best to ask some experts I'm in junior year of high school and i'm not taking advanced math classes and have only taken a few advanced science courses. I'm wondering how much math and science I need to have a grasp on before starting college if i'm planning on taking the major pre-requisites for dental school. And I guess a more personal question, how fluent were you guys at math and science related subjects prior to college because i'm not incredibly strong in those areas right now. Thanks!
I am trying to compile all of my experiences, information, and descriptions ahead of time, so I can be ready to fill out my application easily in this upcoming cycle.
What information is needed when filling out the shadowing section? Do I need the dentists’ personal emails and numbers, or will the office number and email be fine? Also, what’s the format for documenting shadowing - will I enter exact days and hours I shadowed or a weekly average over a number of weeks?
Thank you!
Out of curiosity, how many people are currently waiting for waitlist movement at Detroit?
To those who interviewed with Tufts, how many asynchronous Kira questions are there? Also what exactly do they mean by the Academic Supplemental application?
Hey everyone, what is the max number of experiences you can add on the AADSAS application? I’m applying this year. Thanks!
Does anybody have any idea or estimate how much of NYU’s class is filled yet? I’m getting nervous because I applied late and have a candidate day in February, but worrying my chances of acceptance due to rolling admissions. Any insight about this would be good to hear!!
If an application was submitted before a school's deadline but wasn't yet verified by AADSAS, is that application considered late and rejected?
I have an interview coming up soon so can anyone share the format and any tips so that I can prep accordingly. This is probably my last interview this cycle. You can DM me if that’s easier too. Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Was wondering what my chances applying to school like Rutgers, UMD, Stony Brook, NYU, UCONN bla bla and tri-state area schools. Was wondering if my PAT score will ruin my chances, not applying this cycle going to apply next since its my sophomore year and need to build up EC's. Is this super low PAT, or is it just enough to put me in talks?
4.0, building my EC's do ukraine volunteering program online and have like 50 hours shadowing have another year to build up so.
My goal is to get into UIC dental. So far my sGPA is 4.0 and my cGPA is 3.75. 100 hours shadowing and planning on researching this semester (at UIC).
I applied to dental school during the summer around June and July. I applied to about 12 school. I’ve gotten only one interview and got rejected. I haven’t heard from any schools. I also applied to an accelerated nursing program and got in. The program is only 11 months I was wondering if I did the nursing school and reapply for next cycle will my chances of getting in be higher?? I really want to become a dentist.
Hey guys. Wondering if anyone's in a similar situation as me regarding not having received any interviews yet. I applied on November 27th. My stats:
Computer science major ~3.68 GPA 21 AA, 21 PAT 200+ volunteer hours, 100+ shadowing hours
I applied to 5 schools (must stay local) and was rejected from one already. Radio silence from the remaining 4 schools.
Should I call/email asking about my application?
Before I do a ton of work, I figured I would ask if anyone has already made a ranking list of schools by cost. I know a lot of “hidden fees” are associated with different schools, so I am just sending a feeler out there to see if anyone has ever ranked schools by cost to attend, live, eat…etc.
hi! i’m currently a sophomore health science major/ bio and chem minor… i’m super interested in rutgers dental any advice as i start preparing for the dat/ applying? i am a nj resident as well.. for those who’ve been accepted this past cycle, what were your stats? any advice?
just took my DAT for the second time and got a 21AA! I got an 18AA my first time taking it back in October and I felt super discouraged afterwards with my results because I felt I put so many hours towards studying and it did not show. I signed up for another test date and started studying again 8 weeks ago. This time around, I had the privilege of using my friend’s Bootcamp because he was scheduled to take his DAT last Saturday and I got Booster, so we shared. For my first test, the only material I used was Bootcamp and I studied for 3 months. Here is what I did the second time around: Bio- I started my second time studying by watching the bio videos on booster however, I changed my mind because I did not feel like it was a good use of my time. I did not feel the need to go through all of the bio videos the second time because I wanted to focus more on memorization since I already had a good basis from taking the test the first time, but they are extremely useful for gaining a basis on information if you have not studied that content for awhile. I completed all of the bio questions in Booster the second time studying and then all of the practice tests in Bootcamp and Booster- some of the real DAT were repeated questions from practice tests just worded differently so I definitely recommend doing ALL bio bits questions one time around in either Booster or Bootcamp and then doing ALL of the practice tests as many times as you can before your test date. I found Bootcamp’s videos to be more engaging than Booster but both question banks are equally as representative of the DAT. 1st score: 18 2nd score: 23 GC- I hate gen chem and it was my worst along with QR my first time taking the DAT. The second time around, I rewatched all of Dr. Mike’s videos in Bootcamp which are super helpful, and then completed all of the GC question banks in Booster, which I should have done the first time (I did only about half of the questions in the Bootcamp question bank my first time and it showed in my score lol). Also, the second time around I did all of the Bootcamp and Bio practice tests in Booster and a about 6/10 of the Bootcamp practice tests. My score definitely improved the second time, so my overall takeaway is to make sure you memorize all of the formulas and get as comfortable as you can with actually using them and plugging in the numbers from word problems (lots of practice with question banks!) I found Bootcamp’s videos to be more useful but Booster’s practice tests were more representative of the real DAT. 1st score: 16 2nd score: 22 OC: I scored the same both my first and second time taking the DAT in OC. The first time I took it I had just taken OC the semester before so it was a little more fresh. I didn’t focus as much on OC as I did on other subjects like bio and GC the second time. I did all of the question banks in Booster the second time and the first time I did all of the question banks in Bootcamp. I didn’t watch any OC videos the second time around because I felt prepared enough for it, I focused mostly on memorizing reagents by doing Anki at the beginning of my studies, however I wish I kept up doing Anki the whole time because I think it would’ve helped the reagents stick in my brain better. I did all of the practice tests in Booster and also 7/10 of the tests in Bootcamp the second time around. I was expecting a slightly better score in OC this time but I am not upset about it. Overall, Bootcamp and Booster are equal for this section- I love the reaction question banks. 1st time: 19 2nd time: 19 PAT: I didn’t do as good as I was hoping for on the DAT this time. I was scoring 21/22 in practice and I got a 21 my first time taking the test. The second time taking the DAT I think my mistake was having an ego and thinking I didn’t have to practice as much this time, which I was wrong and my score reflected it. I only did 4 practice tests in Booster the second time but I was scoring really well and I would spend time doing questions from the question banks ~10 min a day. However, I did think Booster’s PAT was easier than the real test and I wish I used the practice tests from Bootcamp because those made PAT feel easier the first time around. 1st score: 21 2nd score: 19 RC: I scored just about how I thought I would on this section. I do recommend doing a practice test every couple days for this section to get used to the timing and how tired your brain gets from this lol. Don’t put it off until the last minute if you don’t read all the time (I took a scientific writing class last semester and RC was a big chunk of our grade so I got better at reading through that- i used to suck, but i think with practice anyone can get good at this). I didn’t use any of the question banks in either Booster or Bootcamp. I found passages in both Booster and Bootcamp to be both equally representative. 1st score: 20 2nd score: 21 QR: my score in this section surprised me the first time around, i wish i had studied it more but i definitely neglected it. The second time around I did all the question banks in Booster so i could get familiar with using formulas and ESPECIALLY extrapolating information from word problems and plugging them into formulas correctly. you have to read these problems carefully. the second time around i did a few of Booster’s QR which i found to be a lot easier than Bootcamp, and my friend thought so too. I did 4/10 Booster practice tests and 5/10 Bootcamp practice tests because I was getting paranoid that Booster was too easy. On the real DAT, I actually found it to be more representative of Booster but Bootcamp was still useful. 1st score: 16 2nd score: 21 Overall, both sources are great! The only two big differences I personally think are that you get more out of Booster for the price but Bootcamp has great GC videos. Having both sources allows for a lot more practice- especially in Bio which I thought having both sources helped me the most.
Hi everyone, I'm currently studying for the DAT and planning to apply this cycle. My GPA is 3.45, I have over 1,000 volunteer hours, and more than 250 shadowing hours. I also run a non-profit organization and serve as the president of our Pre-Dental Society. I'm seeking advice because I'm currently on day 40 of my DAT study schedule, but I feel like it hasn't been effective. I haven't been studying efficiently, and it's really discouraging. I'm considering restarting from day 1 with a better approach. I still have 5 months and 9 days before my test date-would it be a bad idea to start over? I feel like my gpa is rly holding be back and that I have to do good on the DAT
I sent a letter of interest beginning of January got an interview like two days later. Did my interview a week after that and send a thank you letter to my interviewers the day after. My questions is would it be too much to send a letter on intent about 2 weeks later expressing that I plan to accept if offered? Or should I just continue playing the waiting game? I haven’t done anything different since sending my letter of interest a little under a month ago where I updated admission on some new things on my application just fyi.
This might be the wrong sub to ask but the other dentistry subs are so strict about who posts. Currently a high school senior who plans to major in biology in the 4 year schools I’ve applied for. Is there any advice you’d wish you had when you started your 8 year journey to become a dentist? Is dentistry even worth it?. I’m going into dentistry because I feel the job fits my personality and I like teeth (sorry if that sounds weird). Any advice is appreciated :)
Hi everyone! I’m a current H.S. junior and I’m currently planning my course selection for my final year of high school. I’m interested in equitable healthcare, specifically would like to become a dentist that serves minority communities, giving patients more through descriptions of their conditions based on native language (I currently know Korean, working on Spanish, and would like to learn another in college).
What schedule of classes would give me the best background for my aspirations? Attached both my current schedule and my options for next year. My course limit is 8 credits.
Also, which major would be best for my current career idea? I’m really interested in social science (hence my community driven approach) but I’m not sure which major would align with this best, most are minors or concentrations. I don’t think I’d like to major in public health, but not sure. I think the major I choose will also make the dental school reqs a bit more bearable if I find a one that is a combo of bio + social science.
Thanks so much everyone! (If this is in the wrong subreddit please let me know :))
Just hopping on the trend with you all, hopefully, this helps someone! I submitted my applications from August 20th to September 10th (very late ik) to 12 schools as a trad student, ORM (Asian) male.

I recently interviewed at UDM JANUARY 11th, and was told that those interviews were for waitlist spots. I got a spot but dont know how fast the list moves and until when will they keep offering spots. Does Anyone have any information about any of this please help.
Is this a good enough score to be apply? I have a 3.8GPA.
I work full time and have been shadowing at a dental office that’s open on the weekends. After I hit my goal for shadowing hours I’ve asked to start volunteering there but I’ve talked with some people who’ve expressed that it might not look good to have a large amount of shadowing and volunteering hours at the same place. Is this a real concern? I’ve haven’t got many options for dental volunteering due to working full time and I don’t have unlimited PTO to volunteer for as many hours as I’d like to at places who are open during the normal work week.
