A friendly Park City, Utah subreddit for visitors to ask questions about their trip. A partner to /r/parkcity. We hope you enjoy your stay and will help us keep Park City a great mountain town to visit!

Be nice. Go to r/ParkCity if you want to discuss actual local topics.

Rules

1. Kindness to others.

Posts and comments should be polite and reflect how you'd like to be responded to if you were asking a question as a visitor. Simply responding that "you should Google that" or "search the subreddit" is not a helpful response and will be deleted.

2. No self-promotion without clearly identified affiliation.

Comments shouldn't direct others to your business or service without a clear indication that you are affiliated with it. As an example, if a person asks for a business that mounts ski bindings, it is ok to say that you own Bob's ski shop and would be happy to discuss a visitors need. It is not ok to simply say "Bob's ski shop is the best" without noting your affiliation.

3. No direct advertising posts.

This is not a place to simply post about your business or service. That is what Reddit paid advertising is for. Per rule 2 - it is ok to respond about your business (noting your affiliation) to a visitor’s post. If you have a non-profit, one-off highly relevant event, or other circumstance where a post would be relevant to the subreddit, message the moderators.

4. No off topic posts.

Posts should be specific questions or information helpful to PC visitors. Posts not on topic belong on other subreddits, including possibly /r/parkcity. The moderators reserve the right to determine what is on/off topic or appropriate, and remove posts/comments at their discretion.

5. Buddy Pass / Cheap lift ticket requests should go to the sticky thread.

Cheap lift ticket / buddy pass requests should go into the lift ticket request sticky thread on /r/parkcity. Sorry - we just get too many of those requests. Mods will redirect posts there and may delete such posts at their discretion.

Not Skiing

Is it worth visiting if we are not looking to ski and just check out new sites? Would we be better off visiting another Utah city i.e. more cost effective, if we aren’t planning on skiing?

Planning on visiting Dec 26-30

New Years eve/birthday recommendations

Hello! Looking for some New Years eve recommendations. We have a party of 7 young adults (ages 21-26) and we're just looking for fun. Our group has an almost even number of guys and gals. We have a hotel booked 5min off main street.

We know that there are ticketed events going on at Downstairs, The Cabin, and Marquis. Was wondering where the best/youngest crowd would be or if we'd have more fun just bar hopping all over main street. Is it also necessary to buy a ticket in advance?

Not really sure the level of chaos/price of cover charges on new years eve. It is also one member of our party's birthday that night (she's turning 23). Looking for a fun but also cost effective night. Don't want to bar hop if there's $40 covers everywhere, would rather just pick one place.

Also open to not being on main street if the vibes are still good! No ski resort parties please!

Don't know what to wear while there for Christmas Vaca. Need to pack smarter not harder. Help please!!!

My daughter and I are coming to PC Dec 17th - Dec 26th. The weather is looking like it's going to be cold while we are there. What I'm seeing is average highs in the 30's and lows in the 10's (teens and single digit #'s). For someone (myself & my daughter) who lives at, or just above sea level, in a high humidity environment (average is anywhere between 55% - 100%), is typically on the warmer side, what should I expect to "feel like"?

Example: Today the high was 54° & low is 32° Humidity level was 42% & is now 67%, Winds were SW 9MPH & now are NW 7MPH. I was cold today, very cold. Long sleeve shirt with a thick cotton hoodie jack, sweat pants, long socks, and tall fuzzy ugg boots. This kept me pretty comfortable walking outside to & from the car. And to the store and such from the car.

I know that nobody can give me specifics, and nobody knows exactly what the weather will be doing those exact dates in December, but I'm just trying to get a general idea so I can prepare mentally and physically. Also, because I don't know what to pack or what to wear while I'm out there. Thanks in advance!

Springtime Visit - Classes?

Hi! I’m looking to come out sometime this spring for an anniversary present for my husband and I. I will be pregnant so we are hoping to catch some sort of workshop or experience. Is there any place that host things like this? Or any recs on what to do during that time frame?

Housing and Food recommendations are always welcome as well! TIA

Is it worth coming with the conditions right now?

Update: I ended up going to Brighton and had a great time! Not busy and the snow was very forgiving, just a couple small icy patches. More than good enough for my green/blue runs, would recommend!

I am going to SLC this week for work and have a few days for myself. I would love to go skiing, but it looks like the conditions aren't great and seems like the snow is mostly from snowmakers.

I'm not a great skier or anything (been a few years, would mostly do blues), so not particularly picky. Is it still worth the visit? Is there anything else worth doing at Park City other than skiing? First time in Utah, so would appreciate any insight!

December 11 - 14 Visit

My wife and I are bringing our boys 2.5 years and 5 years old to Park City for a pre Christmas trip.

We want to experience some snow tubing. Any good recommendations? Doesn’t need to be a speed demon trail. Just something easy and fun.

Also - The North Pole Express has been sold out for months at all times. Is there a black market / re-sell market for tickets for this thing?!

Restaurants that are good for small kids?

Hi everyone! I will be visiting with my family early January. I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. Do you have restaurant suggestions that are good for small kids? We would need either French fries, great bread, pizza, or salmon on the menu (if you have picky eaters you know what I’m talking about). Thank you for any tips!

Visitor Info: 24/25 Season Park City Ski/Board Rental Indicative Cost Guide

There are often visitor questions on where the cheapest ski rentals can be found. I've put together an indicative Park City ski/board rental price guide (based on pre-season published prices) for the 204/25 season. The guide is published as a Google Doc here

Note that pricing can be impacted by

  • How long you rent for and how far in advance you book (earlier and online with advance pay generally gets higher discount)
  • What ski/board package you select (basic or higher end skis / snowboards. Basic packages are often called "sport" or "silver" packages at many of the stores )
  • When you are renting (some shops have varying pricing and charge more at peak periods)
  • Are you picking up or having ski gear delivered to you (some of the pricing in the guide is for services that deliver the gear to your hotel/condo - like Black Tie and Ski Butlers)

In addition, some shops offer additional benefits (slopeside pickup/drop-off or locations, overnight valet, hotel pick-up/drop-off, group discounts etc.). The cheapest shop may not always be the best for your circumstances - especially if you are new to skiing where being close to the shop to change any ill fitting gear may be important and save you time if you need to try different boots etc.

The guide is based on selecting a peak day (Monday Jan 20 - MLK day) as a single day and as a three day weekend (Jan 18-20) hire on each shop's current website. All prices are for the adult ski and adult snowboard lowest price base package (e.g. not demo or high end packages), and include boots, helmet and poles (for skis) unless noted. Entries are in alphabetical order. OP, has no relation to any of these businesses (but has used some of them).

Taxes and other fees will apply at checkout and prices are shown before tax or fees. Sales tax for shops in municipal Park City is slightly higher then locations outside of municipal Park City (Kimball Junction etc.) but its fairly negligible unless you are renting for a big group.

Also, Vail's new rental platform for Park City Mountain is now used by a number of local shops so you won't see True North, Breeze, Burton, Legacy Sports, or Canyon Mountain Rentals listed separately. And Park City Sports seems to incorporate Jakes Ski & Board Rental, Slope Side Sports, and TownLift Ski and Board Rentals (and the pricing looked the same on each)

I didn't include shops outside of general Park City area. I appreciate there are many more options in Salt Lake Valley (and will add some in when I get time). I am happy to take updates as appropriate where I have missed something or made an error and will try and adjust (just leave a comment here)

How is Park City Snow for Family Trip in Late December/Early January for tubing and such?

Hey Park City people! My Family and I have been to Park City twice before and had a blast with the winter activities in the snow. We did a lot of tubing and playing in the snow and even a little beginner level skiing. The thing is, both times we went were in early-mid February.

We have the opportunity to go back this year, and late December/early January is an option. My question is, would we be disappointed in the snow level at that time, compared to what we are used to?

I know that no one has a crystal ball or anything, but I'm a bit worried that we might get there and all the tubing lanes feel very subpar and whatnot. Also, anyone know if the crow levels are a factor around that time. They weren't very bad in February.

Thanks in advance!

Road trip! From down south with no snow, should I visit park city Utah or Breckenridge, CO or telluride?

My family and I are going on a road trip and they would love to play in the snow, snow tubing, building a snow man, and all that jazz. We’re from the south where there isn’t snow, so I would love a recommendation where to on the week of Nov 23-30. Thanks!

Park City - Christmas / New Years Eve 2024

My husband (35) and I (29) are looking for places to spend Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve in PC.

For Christmas Eve, we are looking for a cozy Christmas-themed experience. I know it’s cheesy, but we are looking for “American Christmas movie style“ We aren’t from the USA, so let me be tacky.

On another hand, for New Year's Eve, we wanna a nice dinner and an after-dinner party to go to. Somewhere to enjoy ourselves with drinks and music to celebrate the beginning of a new year.

Ski lockers or storage and hotels on bus/shuttle line?

Currently planning to do a ski trip to Park City and wondering if there are overnight ski lockers or storage for skis, poles etc at the base of the gondola or lift at either the main site or the Canyons village side? In Europe, a lot of the resorts had lockers near the gondola/funicular so I found it useful to just store them overnight instead of carrying them all the way back to the accommodation.

Also, this would be my first ski trip after a three-year break. I'd say my level is beginner/intermediate (skied greens, blues, and easy reds). Would a 7 days/6 nights trip be enough time to get back into skiing and be able to ski around the green and blue slopes of the resort (both sides)? So far my plan is: Day 1: Arrival. Day 2: Group lesson in morning and ski in afternoon. Day 3: Ski. Day 4: Break/explore town. Day 5: Ski. Day 6: Ski. Day 7: Departure.

Finally, how easy it is to use the shuttle? Does the shuttle drop you right at the base of the gondola/ski lifts? In case the ski-in/ski-out or hotels directly next the slopes are booked, which areas or locations is better to stay at to take shuttles to ski lifts and main town? (e.g. is it the Sheraton, Park city peaks, Yarrow, AC hotel, etc?)

Large Group Recommendations

Visiting Park City in January with a large group (~20) to celebrate a 40th birthday. Looking for recommendations for:

  • Private chef/in-home dinner services
  • Restaurants that can accommodate a large group via reservation

Any other recommendations for non-ski activities for larger groups are appreciated, too. Thank you!

Visiting Park City next week- looking for recommendations!

We will be flying in and staying through the weekend at Waldorf Astoria. We plan to ski one day, but are looking for other recommendations! We loosely looked into snowmobiling and dog sledding, and have planned a couple restaurants. We also thought of spending a bit at Olympic Park (curling class maybe?).

Any restaurant (brunch/breakfast, dinner) and/or bar recommendations, especially with a view?

What about activities we should look into? We won't have a car but can travel as needed! We know it's in-between seasons but are hoping for some fun things to do!

Ski on ski off or short walk options

My family of 4 (2 adults 2 tween kids) will be in Park City Feb 14-20th.

We haven’t skied there before and are looking for reccos for either a ski in out hotel or condo, or one with an easy walk or even short shuttle ride.

Any suggestions on:

A) nice property

B) moderately priced property

C) cheap property

Thanks!

Restaurant reservations?

Visiting December 23-27th. I read elsewhere to make reservations now as everything will fill up fast? Is that true?

Any recommendations on which restaurants are a must try in Park City?

I wanna plan out our trip now, so we don’t miss anything.

Thanksgiving Week Recommendations

We're bringing our kids (6yo, 10yo) to PC for Thanksgiving week. It will be their first time seeing snow and we're looking for recommendations for fun things to do with them - we bought tickets to Woodward for tubing and are staying at Stein Eriksen, but that's all I have so far. I'd love to get them a ski lesson, but all the pricing has been outrageous and I don't expect them to ski again anytime soon (we're in Louisiana) and I'm assuming the ski conditions aren't worth it that early in the season. Thanks in advance!

First time visitor

I’ll be taking my family to Park city the week before Christmas, first time in the area.

We are beginner skiers but have been on a slope before except for my youngest daughter who is just old enough now for her lessons. I think we’ll mostly stick to easy stuff, but I want to make sure lessons are good for kids. Convenience is a priority for me.

I have a lot of Hyatt points so considering either Hyatt Centric or the new Grand Hyatt for hotel and Park City Mountain or Deer Valley for skiing which both still have plenty of lesson availability for us on these days.

Any recommendations on what combo is best for both skiing and restaurants, off slope stuff for kids? Hyatt centric has good reviews but with the new Hyatt, don’t know if it would be better to consider than option.

Thanks in advance.

First time to Park City, help needed. Going w Family Spring Break....

Thinking about heading to Park City with some family for spring break first week in April this year. 2 families, 6 young kids, 2 adults in total. Taking a chance on that late in the season but have read great things about the area in late season. Did Breck last year at the same time and got really lucky with the weather, so hoping for a repeat.

Half the group are novice skiers, my family are decent but just want to make sure the other family has a great time, so we aren't looking for anything technical, just to have fun. Anyone have recommendations on where to stay, family activities, anything for first timers in the area. More worried about where to look to stay.

Will be looking for airbnb, or rental just not sure what area to look that will be good with beginners, near town, etc

Thanks in advance for any help provided!

Any snow parks open this early that make snow? (Nov 10-14)

Taking my 1yr and 4yr old up to Park City, but see there's barely any snowfall this coming week. Curious if any parks make artificial snow for them to just play on? Thanks in advance!
