Looking for your recs for both season long ski rentals and short term ski / boot rentals. The few I’m aware of are of course Christy’s, Jans, Cole’s… any local intel recs I’m missing out on? Especially if better pricing :)
Thanks
Wifey and I are in for the weekend from Colorado. We would love to see the Warren Miller movie at the Ray but do not have tickets to the sold out show. Any ideas where we can meet some folks that might have an extra ticket or two?
https://www.parkrecord.com/2024/10/30/lucky-ones-coffee-closes-kamas-location/
The business’ three-year lease was up on Nov. 1, and the new terms were served at the start of the minimum 15-day notice period required by state law. Matkins and Manhart said they were surprised by their landlord’s proposal, which included a 150% increase in rent and other contingencies the business owners thought were “unusual.”
The rent rose from $18 per square foot in 2021 to $25, and the lease asked for Lucky Ones Coffee to sign a personal guarantee and pay for any work that might need to be done in the building such as a new HVAC system, according to Manhart.
Lucky Ones coffee is part of a non-profit organization with a mission of providing job opportunities for individuals with disabilities. They currently operate two locations (Park City Library and Kamas), and are in the process of opening up a third location at a city library in the Marmalade district.
As I've gotten older, a good, convenient coffee place has become a more and more important part of my life. Just something about getting a fresh coffee and pastry to start the day just makes me joyous. The Park City library location came in really handy last winter, as my toddler and I were both on the struggle bus, and a quick fix from the Lucky Ones location there made us both happy.
It seems like non-profits running coffee shops has been a trend. Good to see, in that it's always good to see a non-profit succeed in it's mission. Still though, troubling to see an economic environment where the only way to make a coffee shop feasible is by it running it as a non-profit.
You read these kinds of articles, and it's tempting to immediately see the landlord as the bad guy (and the article does seem to be biased that way).
At the same time, it cites a "150% increase in rent," then elsewhere talks about going from $18/sq ft to $25 a sq/ft. That's a $7/sq ft increase, which by my math is a 39% increase. Still a lot, but that doesn't seem to be wholly out of line, given the inflation of the past several years.
The aspect of paying for any needed work definitely seems more suspect. Ultimately, I assume the landlord has a line on getting a more profitable tenant in there.
Bad on both parties for running the lease negotiations down to the wire. It seems like any kind of negotiations should have occurred long before the lease expiration. Although, easy for me to say as a non-business owner, sitting here behind my keyboard.
Sad to see Lucky Ones close this location, but encouraged that they're opening up a second location in the Marmalade district. Maybe the model of co-locating in libraries is the only way to make that business model work.

Hey all! My wife and I are coming through town for 4 days the week before Thanksgiving. We often visit areas in off seasons so we are aware of that. Less crowds, more opportunities to support local businesses, etc. Hiking is always our go to activity but wondering what else may be open or any suggestions on non-tourist things to do.
I have a couple hikes in mind, but we would like to spend time relaxing or doing other activities as well. From my research, it seems like most mountain sleds, coasters, Olympic Park activities for Fall are closed and Winter activities aren’t open yet. A massage would be nice, but they all seem about $200/hr in town.
We are foodies and drinkers, but that can only go so far after. I do want to see the Banksy pieces and other art galleries. Any other suggestions to enjoy the area? Snow or no snow. Even a cozy coffee shop would be nice. Being from Illinois, just being in the mountains is enough. Thanks!
Hi, we are visiting Park City for Thanksgiving and want to have Thanksgiving dinner at our rental home, but I don’t want to cook a turkey. Can you recommend a place to order one that I can pick up the day before? Thank you!
Hello, I’m moving to park city soon and was wondering if there are any good gyms near canyons village or kimball junction.
Hi there - I'll be visiting Park City this weekend with another couple who is currently pregnant. Are there any indoor activities or classes you guys recommend? Thanks in advance!

Any progress rumors of a climbing gym coming back to the area?
The last I heard it was looking promising but it’s been over a year now since this article https://www.kpcw.org/summit-county/2023-04-27/the-mines-new-quinns-junction-climbing-gym-is-back-in-the-works?_amp=true
What's a great housewarming type gift for a guy that is Park City-themed?
Example would be a bottle of High West Midwinter Nights Dram.
What other ideas?

I already looked through judges.utah.gov at our Summit County judges but the website isn’t too helpful. Does anyone know anything about these judges? Any that are problematic and whose retention shouldn’t be supported?
Hey so we have a family trip of skiers, non-skiers and toddlers and babies coming to ski first week of February (right after Sundance) and having a hard time deciding where to stay
Seems like actual downtown is all AirBnB’s and any hotel is on a different base of the mountain
How difficult is it to get between the two bases? Car required? Is one better than the other for people who don’t ski and want to just shop, eat, get coffee and hang out?
Thank you!!
My wife and I are traveling to Park city for the first time, with no kids. I will ski one or two days, but we’d like to be close to Main Street and all the action.
Where should we stay??
We are OK with Airbnb or we are OK with potentially a ski resort. Where are we going to have the most fun?
What are we thinking about Prop 18 (emergency services sales tax in summit county)?
I’m inclined to vote no but was wondering if there’s a compelling reason to vote yes.
My name is Bruce and I have lived in the PC Summit County area for 12 years plus, worked grooming and hillside the whole time. I am originally from the Appalachian mountains that just got smashed. Lot of politics and BS going on but people need things.
If anyone out there has a contact or access to propane heaters? Bottles, burners, etc. That is in desperate need. Please DM me. We have a way to get those things in the hands of people in need. Thank you to anyone who can help!!!
It’s my first time to ski swap, any tips that I should know? I’m looking to get a snowboard w bidings and all the ski gear for my bf, how much you think I should spend?
I’ve been commuting to Salt Lake for years because I have a barber that I really trust with my long beard. I’ve been to barbers that don’t know how to work with long beards in the past and they have really screwed it up. I’m tired of the commute, and want to find someone local that is trustable. Any references would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry, but the overly aggressive drivers entering the roundabouts in KJ who routinely fail to yield the right of way to vehicles IN the roundabout need to be stopped.
Today, I witnessed this twice: once as the driver who had to lock up the brakes to avoid t-boning an older black Porsche Cayenne at the roundabout near the Wendy's at around 5:05PM.
Then just now, at almost 9:45PM, I was behind a car inside the roundabout who had to veer right OUT of the roundabout to avoid hitting a late model Chevy or GMC pickup.
I'm not a violent person, but I'm thinking about getting a brush guard on the front of my truck and just not hitting the brakes. These asshats need to be stopped.
With a little bit of snow in the forecast for tomorrow/Friday, what's your snow dance?.
Mine is finally doing an oil change on the snowblower, and obsessively checking forecasts.
The FutureSnow (https://futuresnow.co/) storm forecast (not a weather forecast but a storm cycle forecast up to 60 days out) released their early season test forecast for November including Utah. It's a paid service so I'm not going to copy and paste it all, but for Utah they are predicating storm cycles +/- 2 days tolerance for Oct 29, Nov 2, 4, 8-9,17, 22, and Dec 3rd.
They were pretty accurate last year - getting 19 of their 21 Wasatch storm predictions (https://futuresnow.co/predictions/) right within the +/- 2 day tolerance - with many of those predictions being 45-60 days out.
