looking for a day pack for an X-mas present. Trying to pick between a few options, including some osprey and some patagonia ones, wondering how people have found them or if anyone has additional opinions on them? will mainly be used for day hikes in the bush and the mountains (they have a 15 L one, but looking for a 22-30 L one that can fit a bit more gear for longer and potentially colder hikes). Picking out of these ones:

- Osprey Sportlight 25

- Osprey Hiklight 26

- Patagona Refugio (26L or 30 L)

- Terravia Pack 22L

I volunteer at a dog shelter where the dogs are outside. Now that it's cold I've been wearing a fleece hoodie and pants over layers to stay warm, but fleece attract a lot of dog hair, which has to be removed before I can wash it.

Does anyone have recommendations for affordable cold weather gear that wouldn't attract dog hair? And is easy to wash and tough enough to survive dogs.

Looking for advice and suggestions. 15 years ago, I bought a lightweight Montbell down jacket that used stitchless baffle construction. It served me well for a decade, but slowly the baffles have pulled apart, and the down insulation is all falling and settling to the bottom by the hem. The jacket has now lost its shape and does not keep nearly as warm.

I don't think trying to repair the jacket would make much sense in terms of cost or quality of result. So my question is if there is anything I can do with the down. As I understand it, goose down is very durable and should still have its insulation value. Should I cut open the jacket and use the 800 fill down for anything? Any ideas? Thank you.

Hey everyone! TMI but i purchased a Patagonia Nano Puff from Depop but it absolutely reeks of BO from the previous owner… I’m not super grossed out by stuff like this and it seemed clean enough so i just threw it in the wash with a regular detergent hoping it would go away and that maybe the previous owner just didnt wash it well enough. But i took it out and it still smells awful. I wanted to wash it again with some nikwax hoping maybe it just needs detergent for outdoor gear but is there anything else i can do? Has this happened to anyone else with their nano puff/down jackets?

Hi, I just got the Patagonia torrentshell L3 and it can be packed into its own pocket. Does this decrease its „lifespan"? Or can I put it packed into my backpack till I need the jacket.

I'v been looking for a good hardshell for some time now but im not newbie when it comes to outdoor gear so I decided to ask help from here. My budget is around 300 euro under 350 atleast. I want it to stand rain well and to be durable.

What base layers would yall reccomend for women? I definitely need some new one for this upcoming winter and the ones I’ve used the last few year just aren’t cutting it anymore.

I want something that will keep me warm through the winter months and I love Columbia’s Omni Heat technology but this isn’t a deal breaker. I also need something that will be waterproof or I could get a water proof shell for. I’m willing to spend a good chunk of change on it since I know I’ll have it and use it for years to come since I live in the north west. I won’t be dealing with negative temperatures but definitely ones where I’m going to want something that will keep me warm and dry. I’m open to any brand I just care mostly about quality and performance.

Hi all, I'm currently in the market for an insulated, midlayer jacket that I'll use as my winter hiking jacket in the Mid-Atlantic (along with a base layer) and for the one-two hiking trips I take out to Utah/Arizona in the winter time. I'm not a big skier (I only ski maybe two times a season) but I also plan on wearing it under a waterproof shell for when I do.

I've pretty much narrowed it down to one of the four:

Does anyone have any suggestions for a mountaineering backpack? I climbed Mount Adams, and other peaks requiring being out for ~12 hours using a black diamond 32 liter dawn patrol backpack. I found that backpack was just too small for ~12 hours days where I need to carry like 4 liters of water, an ice axe, crampons, food, and extra layers etc. I am looking to upgrade to a larger backpack. Maybe around 40-45 liters, so getting into my backpack is just more convenient. Most of the "mountaineering" backpacks I'm looking at seem to be "Backcountry skiing" backpacks, and have the option to carry skis on the pack, which I don't mind as it seems they have all the features I want, PLUS the option to carry skis, which is cool to have that option for Backcountry skiing too. I'm hoping for a pack with the option to carry a helmet, ice axe loops, straps to carry poles, and 40-45 liters. A pocket on the hip belt would be cool too. I'm looking at the black diamond Cirque 45L, but am open to other suggestions, as that one doesn't have hip belt pockets, or many straps on the outside for me to strap poles and wet crampons. Thanks

Hi! Looking for a new winter coat in prep for the weather changing in WI. However I have some requirements and am looking for advice:

• warm in 0°C
• longer length (thigh or longer)
• more than 2 pockets
• waterproof (or strongly water resistant)
• good for standing around (coaching outdoor winter sports)

Some I've seen are the Outdoor Research Coze parka but that isn't waterproof for my coaching days. The Patagonia 3-in-1 is another recommended but I'm unsure. The the Arcteryx Liatris checks a lot of my boxes but is a little pricey.

I'm in the process of buying a winter jacket to use for temperatures of around 5 to -5 c° for everyday use and hiking. Purchased a BD Cosmo headlamp (might also apply to Spot and Astro models), worked fine and well until the battery reached about 50% of its capacity. It started to auto-dim the LED down to impractical levels, rendering it utterly worthless for my use case; every 10-15 minutes I had to readjust the brightness back to 100% since anything less would not let me evaluate the ground conditions properly. What is this madness? Is BD having agreements with battery manufacturers to indirectly coerce customers into replacing the batteries prematurely out of sheer annoyance? What could the engineers have possibly been thinking when designing such silly function? I don't need a power-saving economy mode when I require maximum luminance until the juice runs out and I replace the cells. I don't need a fancy smart auto-management feature to boost operation time but the highest possible performance until the very end! As with the Internet of Things and AI technology trend, every device nowadays seems to need a life of its own.

I know arcteryx doesnt have one and i usually buy used but are there any stretch goretex jackets

I admit winters aren't easy for me. I come from a tropical climate zone and even there my problem in winters was cold felt in thighs specially. Upper part of the body is relatively warm with jacket and layers. After moving to Germany, I feel legs, specially thighs as ice cold in winters when I am outdoor. Tried some base layers having fleece and cotton but the problem I face is, they become too warm to handle or itchy the moment I am indoors (like in office).

Of late, I stumbled upon Uniqlo heat tech ultra warm tights which I am considering to give a try.

I got recently a sailing jacket (as a present) and I started to run more. It's autumn so in my country its pretty cold already. I started to wear this jacket for runs and its good at protecting me from rain and its pretty thin but warm at the same time. its a bit long tho. Since its getting even colder I am thinking about buying winter gear and idk should I keep this jacket or buy a jacket that is specifically made for runners.

I was planning on buying a Woodsman Anorak from an EU retailer.

Helikon Tex's sizing is super weird and I have heard people mention different things about their sizing.

I do realize they have a sizing chart, and I have looked at it.

I normally wear a US men's size small jacket. I am 5'8" and 145-155lbs.

I do NOT want it extra baggy. But I do not want it super tight.

I would wear this over a T-shirt. At most I would wear it over a sweatshirt, or a hoodie.

Anyone have experience ordering Helikon Tex EU sizes to the US?

I am leaning towards the EU medium, but I am not sure.....
