Hi, I'm looking to buy a kayak for my boyfriend for his birthday.
I don't know anything about kayaks or fishing. I think he is looking to mainly use the kayak for fishing but other versatile options are ok too. My budget is around 600$.
We live in ontario, canada fyi. He has a smaller coupe car open to getting a roof rack. I know there are foldable kayaks now but I'm not sure they are fit for what he wants.
Please help me !!
If anyone has any tips or tricks, that would be great. This kayak has one tiny drain hole and at least a pound of sand inside of it. I’m thinking maybe fill it with enough water to slosh the sand around to where I could at least get it deposited on the end of kayak where the drain hole is. And then drain all the water out, wait for it to dry and use a vacuum? if I decide to drill a hole in it, what product should I use to seal it back up?
Gorgeous morning, looks serene, but I worked my butt off keeping pace with the slack tide.
I just finished up a long weekend of white water kayaking with friends in Llangollen, Wales. Before leaving this morning, a couple of us paddled over the nearby Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, an 18th century aqueduct which crosses the River Dee we’d been kayaking on all weekend.
It’s the highest canal aqueduct in the world and definitely a unique place to paddle :)
Making my Christmas list. What's a reasonably priced Amazon paddle that everyone likes?
Looking for something around 240cm.
I'm installing a roof rack on my Tacoma and bought two sets of Thule Hull-a-port Aero racks. I'm debating whether or not to leave them up year round or if I should remove them whenever they're not being used. I only use the kayaks a few times a year, or else it wouldn't be a question for me. What do you guys think?
*Edit-the roof rack is a Prinsu-style rack that will be up there permanently. It has t-slot cross bars that the j-hooks with be installed on.
*Edit #2- in Florida, if that matters
Hello,
I am looking for some thoughts on which boats to look at to replace my Old Town Adventure XL 14'
It is an old boat, set up for fishing, that is showing its age, especially in the seat. I am looking for some thoughts on which boats to look at to replace it. I prefer a used boat, but am willing to go new if that is what it takes.
I am a larger paddler, 6'2", 275 lbs, so size and weight capacity is important. Additionally, I like the speed of a 14' kayak, but value lower weight and the ability to carry it in my short bed truck without a trailer so I prefer to keep the length 14' or under with 12' being ideal.
I also value a boat that is easy to paddle and tracks well. No preference on rudder or skeg. I definitely prefer a sit in model.
I would like to hear some opinions, especially from larger paddlers on which boats you have found that you think I should look at.
TIA
Enjoy this short film from a whitewater kayaking expedition to the island of Madagascar.
I have a 75lb Lifetime Teton Pro 116. I’m thinking of adding a trolling motor to help me go upstream on rivers. I’m looking at the Newport Kayak Series. Should I get the 36lb or 55lb thrust? I’ll likely get a lithium ion battery to keep the setup light.
Just picked up a Feelfree Moken 10 and was curious how I can store it. I found a post on here saying if your boat has a flat stern you can store it upright resting on that which would be great but it didn’t say that on Feelfree’s website. Can I store it outside, and on the ground? I know ideally it’d be stored inside but I have nowhere to do that. I do have a small awning outside I can put it under.
I just scored a Stratos 14.5s and I’m looking for spray skirt recommendations. What neoprene bungee skirts are y’all using?
I already use IR and Snapdragon skirts on my longer sea kayaks (Cetus MV, Tempest Pro) but they don’t fit the Stratos. Obviously Snapdragon can’t be had anymore, but I’m hesitant to buy another IR skirt because I’ve had pretty bad leakage problems from the IR (Shockwave) skirt. The length on it is good on my long boats, but it’s too wide to get a good seal on the sides so when I edge hard, roll, or play in the surf there’s lots of water ingress. I’m hesitant to buy another Shockwave only to have the same problem since I bought the Stratos primarily for surf use.
What is everyone using?
My concern is if I fell out of my kayak in to the water. I could be dead from exposure in less than 10 minutes
Unlikely, but the consequences are too severe if there's an issue
Is there any way to mitigate this risk besides just not kayaking?
The places I go aren't really remote, but there isn't necessarily help within a few minutes
Hey, I’m looking for a Kayak to just do some light cruising with my best friend. I have some direction but want to fact check my logic and maybe grab some recommendations. Thank you.
Dog: 70lbs husky
Terrain: large river
Kayak style: sit-on (incase we fall in, it’s easier to get back on)?
Length: 10ft+?
Accessories: Roof attachment capable
We recently kayaked in super clear water and it got me thinking about mounting a go pro or something similar to the bottom of the kayak so I can see what's under neath us more so....
Has anyone done this and how? I'd prefer not to screw anything in but any advice is welcome

Everything i try to assemble my tuctek one of the inner latches breaks off and requires a new rivet, does anyone else have one and have these issues
Half-inspired by the recent reddit post in this subreddit asking for ideas to buy for someone, and half-inspired by the fact that I am about to start being hounded for my own Christmas wishlist and frankly have NFI:
What kayak related gear are you going to ask for this holiday season?
New to Whitewater Kayaking. Looking to get some Roll classes in during winter in NC. Anyone know of place around Charlotte?
Called a few Ys, but no luck. Thanks!
I've managed to find great deals on two inflatable kayaks and I was hoping to get your opinions on them!
Option 1: Intex Excursion Pro (w/ one seat and one paddle) - $40
Owner states the kayak has only been used twice and has no history of holes/tears.
Option 2: Sea Eagle SE 330 (w/ two paddles and two Deluxe Inflatable Kayak Seats) - $50
Owner states the kayak is 3-4 years old, has a history of a 1/4" tear which was patched, and it sounds like it's gotten some decent use (including by owners younger son).
I'm new to kayaks. Based off what I've read online I'd be leaning towards the Sea Eagle if they were both new due to the build quality and potential comfort with the deluxe seats on the Sea Eagle. The main thing that's holding me back is the fact that the Excursion Pro is relatively new without history of reported damage. I'm not sure how detrimental prior patched tear is in an inflatable kayak.
I appreciate any input you can provide!
