Hi folks. I’m possibly relocating to Norfolk for work in the next few months. Office will be near downtown and I’ll be looking for a place to live relatively nearby-ish. I’m upper 30s m, single with a dog. From what I’m seeing, considering Ghent for sure, but open to other options. Generally looking for walkable neighborhoods with coffee and restaurants and maybe a brewery or two. Wondering what resources you’d recommend for apartment/townhome/house hunting? I'm looking to see if I can canoe from Norfolk to the Dismal Swamp via the Glimerton Canal. The canal goes from the Upper Reach of the Elizabeth River at the St Juliens Creek intersection down in a direct line to the Deep Creek / Dismal Swamp Lock. I'd like to travel that path, it saves me about 5-6 miles.

Using Google maps I can see docks along the water from Rt 64/17 south, but I can't really see clear water north of there. There is a bridge at Shell road where it crosses the Canal. I can't see from the sat view if there is bridge there or just a culvert.

I only need about 6" of water to get through.

Is it me or did the flavor quality of Benny's drastically decline? I had a couple slices from there the other day (1 cheese 1 pepp) and was shocked at how bad they were.

I'm curious to know what you all think? Any better pizza places with large single slices like this? I know the area pretty well and some of the pizza spots like Cogan's. Any recommendations?

Many people will remember a tree in the middle of Interstate 64 near the Mercury Boulevard interchange.The cedar tree stood in the median and was decorated for various holidays, including Christmas, Thanksgiving and Fourth of July.

Who was decorating it was a mystery, the only thing known for sure was they were fast and unpredictable.

For at least seven years the tree became an unofficial landmark, while decorations became more elaborate and frequent, the culprits remained a mystery.

On May 5, 1999 a State Trooper happened upon three people decorating the tree for Mother's Day. They were Sandra Paton, a Hampton nurse, and her son and daughter.

It was a rainy night and the trooper told them they had to stop and get off the Interstate. The son, Bruce Paton, returned to hang the tree to hang up one more decoration and was ticketed.

Finally identified, Sandra Paton, stated that her family would no longer decorate the tree. Her son pled guilty and paid his fine. Soon thereafter expansion of the interstate required the tree to be removed.

Sadly, Ms Paton passed away in July, 2014.

I need someone with more experience than myself to help replace my front door and storm door. Possibly need the door frame replaced as well as paint on the new door. I can provide all materials needed for the job. I want to stay within budget on labor but am more than willing to pay a reasonable price.

I used to play in heavy and emo bands years ago but got really into solo stuff and producing. I’d love to start a serious group/band locally. I’m a pretty accomplished guitar player and singer and have a decades experience producing.

Artists and bands I really like include: (Rock) Nothing But Thieves, Radiohead, The Strokes, The Killers: (R&B/Soul) Lucky Daye, Victoria Monet, Earth Wind and Fire: (pop/singer songwriter) Dijon, Finneas, Mk.gee, Hozier. I’m not really attached to genres I just gravitate towards artists and sounds that I like.

Looking for ppl with similar taste who also have production experience and want to write and release original material. Hopefully perform as well!

Hey y’all. Been living here for a few years now, and VNG got us good for a second year in a row.

Not a surprise bill or price hike. The family was greeted with a frigid home when we got in from work, conveniently after customer support hours.

Spoke to them this morning, and they “ACCIDENTALLY” terminated the account (which was in good standing). This would be easy to chock up to monopolistic incompetence…but here’s the kicker. THEY DID THE SAME THING TO US LAST WINTER.

They refuse to reactivate the gas to reestablish our account until Saturday. So now, we have to figure out how to do our own Thanksgiving dinner while the incompetent people at VNG get to enjoy theirs.

Anyone have any similar beef with VNG or hear of this happening to anyone else? Is there any avenue of voicing this to someone that actually gives a sht at the company? I’m near insane with rage at this point because there’s no way it accidentally happens twice to the same family at the same address.
