If in a box for years all you might get when connecting to power is a flickering screen. This will apparently go on forever, it will not charge in situ via the circuitry in the unit.
Solution:
Chop the USB micro plug off a sacrificial cable. Strip black and red maybe 10mm. Prise the back off your N7, not difficult.
Disconnect the battery lead from the board and poke your red and black wires into the colour matched pin sockets at either end.
Connect your modified cable to charger and leave it like that for maybe 20-30 mins.
Plug the battery lead back in and then connect a USB micro to the unit. It should light up with a charging symbol.
Put the back back on and let it charge up.
Then (like me) wonder what you're gonna do with Android 5, but that's the fun part
hello im trying to install Lineage OS on this old device but when i do the steps and enter the command
fastboot devices
nothing works, it doesn't detect the device and i get a yellow triangle in device manager, thats there an error with this usb port , i dont know what to do
Hi guys.
Just got one of these (2013 version) for 15$ to watch live tv and small stuff like that. So i would like to know if there's some stable updated rom for this tablet.
LOS 18 seemed to be good but i would like to know more options.
I yet again have a another question regarding the system sounds. Is there any app or easily flashable item that is free that would let me change my system sounds? I am already rooted and have an unlocked bootloader running stock Android 5.1.1.
Hi, I use nexus 7 (2012) running Android 5.1.1(lollipop) as my daily tablet, what apps would you recommend for this device?
Hello I bought a nexus7 2013 really cheap I directly installed lineage os Only the charge is much too slow 4 hours of 35% now I don't know if it's like that basic or the battery is causing a problem? or the jack? I changed the cable and charger nothing to do thank you for your help
Hey every! I recently found my Nexus 7 2012 Grouper and am trying to get it usable again. I have already unlocked it but am having trouble flashing a new recovery. I have a Mac, and when I am in the Terminal I am able to get it to recognize the device when doing adb devices. I then fastboot the Nexus 7 and do fastboot devices and it is once again recognized. I then input fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.3-0-grouper.img and continually get this error:
ERROR: usb_write failed with status e00002eb
fastboot: error: cannot load 'twrp-3.2.3-0-grouper.img': No such file or directory
I also have tried dragging and dropping the file after typing fastboot flash recovery in Terminal and still get the "No such file or directory."
Does anyone know what might be going on? I am not super computer literate, so please be kind, especially if I am making a simple mistake. Any help would be appreciated.
so,i have this asua nexus 7 2012 3g,i got android 7.1.2 on it and runs fine but it only has around 600-700 mb system partition which is too small for me to get pico gaops working, any reccomandations?
Good evening, I have my old nexus 7 from 2013 and decided to fire it up after a few years of letting it sit. The battery was stuck at 0% for a good 8 hours of letting it charge and now it boots but charges at 1 watt from my anker 65 watt power brick. Could the battery be bad or the micro usb charge board?
I have been trying to update my 2013 Nexus 7 from Android 4.3 to 4.4.2 but it either says that storage is full even not or gets forever stuck at installing update part. I want to keep it stock and not have any custom ROM.
I want to install Ubuntu Touch (for curiosity) on my Nexus 7 "grouper", but I can't find the image files on the Internet.
Where can I download them?
I found Ubuntu Desktop imgs, but I searching for the Touch version.
Thanks for your help! :)
If i flash a rom will i retain otg functionality?
Can someone give me a firmware JELLY BEAN or the oldest firmware to downgrade my Nexus 7 me370t I searched everywhere on google I can't find
A couple of weeks back, I read posts on this forum about updating from the Official Nexus 7 (2013) image, and most recommended LineageOS 18.1, e.g. https://redd.it/15x0r5m. I checked the LineageOS 18.1 download link given in that thread, and I could have sworn that there was a downloadable image, but I can't find it now.
Has anybody got a link?
Hi I use my tablet only at my desk so I wanted to leave it plugged in all the time but didn't want to ruin my battery. Since ACCA is not working is there any alternative anyone can share? Thanks.
I have read that even Lineage wont help me much since this model is weak and too old; Id like to flash it so I can use it to browse wikipedia and stuff like this, so web browsers mainly. Is it too much to ask with this device ?
Went from 41% yesterday evening to 51% now, the tablet did not charge in between. Why? Could it be a sign the battery is dying ?
Is it worth bothering reviving it, maybe with an alternative OS ? (Linux stuff ?) it seems buggy and slow now if I can even manage to boot in the first place. Also would there be a spicy pillow problem with the battery since its so old now ?
My first tablet of any ecosystem was the original Kindle Fire. I rooted it and put Android 3.x on it. I ran into storage limitations and ended up going back to stock and un-rooting it.
In 2012, I was very stoked to get the Nexus 7 2012. It could do everything I needed and perfect size. That was until Android 5.x. Need I say more? I shelved it after that. It was a good 2 year run. I felt like I wasted my money to only use a tablet for 2 years.
I have always been an Apple iPhone user but never jumped on the iPad bandwagon because of the high price point. After my distaste for the Nexus 7 2012 after the Lollipop fiasco, I begrudgingly went with iPads. I got an iPad mini 2 and then sold it 2 years later to get an 2018 iPad. I am still using the 2018 iPad.
I was cleaning out my closet 2 days ago and found Nexus 7 2012 collecting dust. I put it in a pile to electronically recycle next week. As a last ditch attempt, I started googling to see the resale price of Nexus 7 2012. I stumbled upon a YT video showing Nexus 7 2012 running Android 7.1.2 without any lag that drove me crazy using Android lollipop. I was in disbelief. In 2019, as a last ditch attempt to not give up on Nexus 7 2012, I had put it back to Android 4.4.4. It ran well and no lag but it couldn’t run any streaming apps I use on my iPad so I threw it back in my closet.
I have the Nexus running on 7.1.2 with all my streaming apps (Plex, Jellyfin, HBO Max, Amazon Prime, Movies Anywhere, Fandango at Home, YT, YTTV).
I am working on getting Disney+/Hulu working but doesn’t look hopeful.
But I am just stunned that it’s 2024 and 12 years later, I can run 98% of what I want to run on Nexus 7 2012!
Update: I installed magisk and set that all up to “hide”. I just got Hulu and Disney+ working which Nexus 7 is supposed to be unsupported device for Disney+/Hulu.
Update 2 (after 12 days use): I am still quite satisfied with how I was able revive a 12 year old Nexus 7 2012. I would like to add that once I added the apps I wanted to try and use (basically the streaming apps I mentioned already), you must disable the “enable auto update” option for those apps. There’s no guarantee that future revisions of the apps that are working right now for Android 7.1.2 will continue to function adequately for nexus 7 2012. Timing is everything as they say. So I have disabled auto update for every Google play app and hoping that will keep this nexus 7 2012 with Android 7.1.2 running for a while.
Build number MOB30X (I think this is a 2013?)
It has android 6.0.1 on it.
The play store says "Server Error". I breifly got it to load but all the app updates failed.
Same after factory reset.
I want to get Home Assistant on it so I can use it as picture frame.
Can I load an APK or anything to get either the play store going or Home Assistant?
I have an identical nexus that runs Home Assistant just fine so I know it can do it. But I think it might depend on newer chrome etc. So I think getting play store ticking is important.
What are my options? Can a different OS be put on?
Hello,
My N7 is working great as an ebook reader but the case is falling apart. Any suggestions for a case replacement?
I think I have the original N7... How can I find out?
Thank you
it doesnt show up as a device even though usb debugging and mtp is on.
