I dug up my old nexus 6 and was thinking about installing lineage 18.1 to it and using it as a degoogled "dumbphone" but I've been reading some posts saying that the phone doesn't even work with Google Fi anymore and the volte wouldn't work. I have mint mobile (T-Mobile nvmo) and was wondering if it wouldn't even work as a phone to be worth it. Thanks!
If yes, where exactly can I get one? Also, are there are any non Nexus batteries that might fit and work in this phone?
It's been years and years, I've had loads of phones but I still miss the width of the Nexus 6.
Which phones are the closest in size? I use a Realme GT 2 Pro at the moment and they never released the GT3 pro in the UK.
Max budget £600.
hello,
in many countries, 2G will be disabled next year, in others before or after, and what i could read is that the unique option will be to use VoLTE.
i also read on some Lineage post that after Android 8.1, VoLTE cannot be enabled on N6.
also, i could read that carriers can decide to accept / reject some models of phones and i am wondering what is the status for N6.
i livre in France.
is this correct? any other option? (except Whatsapp :) )
thanks
hello guys,
don't laugh, i'm still on stock 7.1.1 mainly due to lack of time.
i plan to do it in the incoming weeks.
is there a method somewhere to flash from scratch, with all prerequisites? what i fear is that most of people flashing already flashed before so have everything installed both on computer and device, and in my case some thinks might be not documented.
also, what is the best version today? not sure i need the last android version.
many thanks
Hi all. I'm putting a new battery in my N6 after the new mid plate comes and was wondering if I can just eliminate the wireless charging ring? I've never used it and don't see me using it at this time but wanted to make sure the phone will still work if I clip the cable off the board. Thanks!
Hi, I've been fighting all day to get my Nexus 6 to work again after it suddenly got corrupted all and it stopped booting up.
Using WugFresh's toolkit I've been able to update the USB driver and see the device in my device manager.
However when I try to unlock the Bootloader, WugFresh's toolkit just won't work.
Is there any other way to unlock a Nexus 6 without being able to launch Android and enable USB debugging?
Anyone using Graphene OS? Can it even be installed on a Nexus 6?
Big screen, dual front facing speakers, headphone jack, clean OS environment without bloatware (just an ASUS gaming app that you can ignore). It's like a modern Nexus 6 but useable with today's environment.
Is it possible to get a custom ROM onto a device with bootloader unlocked using computer?
I hadn't bothered using anything but stock on my N6. It's only been a house-bound phablet for the living room, wifi-only but has a Fi data-only sim for outages, lives on a charge pad so the usb port is fine. Battery not so good and I was always annoyed by how sluggish it got when the battery was getting low.
Swapping it to the latest Lineage, and damn. New phone. Just like everyone says. Buttery smooth, better screen-on time, the works. Since my daily driver is a Note 9, I don't really need it as a phone still, but I feel like I could get a few more years out of this no-problem.
Anyway, boasting in hopes that it will push one more of you on the fence like I was. It didn't take long at all and the directions are pretty straightforward.
Happy new year all,
My mother's Nexus 6 is acting up - there's a specific number that behaves like a blocked number - can't place calls to it or get calls from it, but it's not in the blocked list (in fact we emptied it).
We're sure it's the phone and not the provider or anything associated with the sim or phone number, because we switched sim cards with my phone and got the same result for the same number and my phone number.
Any suggestions on how to solve this? My mother (bless her heart) is still using the Nexus 6 as her only phone, and she's really not willing to part with it.
Purchased mine in *2014 when they first came out and am still using it today. Replaced the screen once, battery twice, and been using it with Lineage, Magisk, and Niagara launcher for a few years now. No plans on replacing it anytime soon. Curious if anyone else is still using it.
Let's look back at some memorable moments and interesting insights from last year.

I just want that same Nexus 6 awesomesauce but with 5G. I love using a custom Rom with root and nandroid, so I can load a complete backup on a new unit if I need to. Not really interested in beefy hardware. N6 has been perfect for me, good speakers, generous screen size, and ROM support. It's exactly the right phone, except for 5G.
I think I already have the official USB to wall-plug adapter thing, but I want to know what the USB charger looks like because I have a lot of random USB chargers around my house and I want to know which one is the Nexus 6 one.
UPDATE 8/25/22:
I talked to Simple mobile and after having to drag the information out of them they verified that T-Mobile IS blocking these phones by the IMEI from the network, despite the phone having working VoLTE on Lineage OS 19.1, T-Mobile does not care and is blocking the phones - and that is for ALL data channels, no 4G, no 3G and no 2G - zero. This change had to have been made maybe 8-10 days ago because these phones worked FINE before that.
So if you are a Nexus 6 user on a flat rate carrier like Google FI, Simple Mobile, Mint, etc, or are a direct T-Mobile customer --- the Nexus 6 is no longer going to work. The VoLTE blocking by IMEI was started some time in the last 8-10 days --- even though the phones are VoLTE capable, they are not with factory images, so T-Mobile says: No Soup For You.
Bummer!

OP
I have two Nexus 6 phones. One I purchased back in 2015 during the 1/2 price sale straight from Google and is factory unlocked. The other I purchased in the last year, factory sealed, new in box --- this phone is basically brand new, also factory unlocked.
The original phone is on Simple Mobile, which uses T-Mobile and I use this phone for work. The newer phone is on Google Fi, which also uses T-Mobile, and this is my personal phone.
In the last 72 hours, both phones will not connect to LTE for more than about 30 seconds before switching to Edge and staying there. They will NOT reconnect to LTE unless you toggle airplane mode or reboot, and even then it's only for about 30 seconds before switching to Edge. T-Mobile coverage in my area is perfect and has been for years. While connected to Edge, there is NO DATA connection, even though it says connected. My office is about 15 miles from my house, across my city, both locations have excellent T-Mobile LTE coverage, the behavior is the same in both locations.
If I swap the SIM cards between the two Nexus 6 phones, the behavior is the same, LTE connects for about 30 seconds, then drops to Edge and stays there. Now, if I place EITHER of these SIM cards in my Poco M3, they will both immediately connect to LTE and work just fine, it's not the SIM cards and it's not the coverage. Both plans use very little if any mobile data most of the time.
*technically* speaking, Google Fi is no longer supported on The Nexus 6 since 2020, but, it will work just fine without the Fi app and manual APN assignment. Simple Mobile however has no restriction.
Both phones are running unofficial Lineage OS 19.1. To make sure this wasn't the issue, I flashed both phones to official Lineage OS 18.1. The behavior was exactly the same with both versions. I then flashed both phones back to factory Google images and the behavior was exactly the same, will only connect to Edge and will not send/receive data at all, even though it shows connected.
Anyway, I am not sure what to do about this. I love these phones and honestly don't want a newer phone, which is why I bought the second NIB phone this year. Just thought I would share.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the "old" Nexus 6 is on the FACTORY modem firmware, same as it came out of the box with. The "new" Nexus 6 has the latest modem firmware. So the firmware doesn't seem to matter.
After my 2013 Nexus 7 became lethargic with LineageOS 18.1 (I'm too lazy to flash back to stock), I purchased a Nexus 6, unlocked the bootloader, and loaded 18.1, to use it strictly as a home browser to save battery wear on my LG G8.
It runs a little slow compared to the LG (of course), but between the occasional delay and the fact that it's my only device using Micro-USB, I'd like to sell it and banish all the Micro-USB cables from my home.
I imagine that only enthusiasts would be interested in this phone. I'm in Canada, so I think Swappa is not the best place to list it. Any ideas?
i have a softbricked nexus 6 that could use some fixing
hello all
i have a 32 giga N6 with very few apps, almost no videos, DCIM size = 2,43 giga.
i have whatsapp (size = 2,2 giga) and a big sms history...
so, memory is full 99% and i am just wondering if this is normal?
i have stock rom 7.11
maybe its time to switch to Lineage, but will this save space?
i know that despite keeping same OS version, a lot of android components are upgraded by google so this causes possibly increase of rom size..
also, possibly a hardware problem or corruption somewhere?
what is the best approach to analyse the device?
thanks!
I have a Nexus 6 originally brought from Google store. I want to unlock the bootloader in order to try some custom roms. In Android OS, I have these switches set on:
I can run adb reboot-bootloader
on my windows command prompt with the Nexus 6 attached and it reboots the Nexus 6 into fastboot mode. So it seems adb commands are working on the phone.
Here's where I'm stuck. When I run fastboot oem unlock
, all I get is the "waiting for any device". On the phone itself, it just sits in the fastboot screen, I'm not getting the prompt to allow bootloader unlock. Here's some screenshots if I neglected to mention the pertinent details. What am I missing?
...just keeps waiting for device
device stays in fastboot, never get prompt for bootloader unlock
Here's the screen showing that OEM unlock and USB debug is enabled.
So my nexus 6 is about dead what are some of the phones you guys are going to ? Looking at the one plus and a pixel model with 5g ? But I yearn for a phone that is shaped like the nexus 6 so bad why did they think y'all and skinny was a good idea 😭
I can't enable wifi at all because anytime I enable wifi networks, the actual on/off switch just clicks over once and off with a single vibration. Do I have a dead network card and the phone knows it so it won't even let me attempt to make a connection with the router? I've tried multiple router types and networks.
Fellow Nexus 6 fans, my N6 is not taking charge any more (tried with multiple micro USB cables including the cable that came in the box). I love the device and it has served me for so many years. It was working even a few days ago though the battery has been showing signs of age but now it won’t charge at all. Can the battery completely die just like that or is the charging port the problem ?
