Thoughts on Hythe?

I know it's not quite in the Forest but I'm looking to move into or near the Forest. Are the people nice? What are the cafes /restaurants like?

Quince!

Hi everyone!

I'm in the market for some quince - if anyone knows of any wild quince trees, or has one that's fruiting in their garden, I would love to know about it :)

Friendly cafes and restaurants

Hello

I'm a bit of a nomad, traveling with my rescue dog. I'm looking for a few quiet, friendly places to go and eat. Preferably with a few vegan options on the food menu.

Thank you

Early November 3-night couples holiday suggestions

Hey all,

Me and my wife are thinking of taking a couple days off for a short holiday to relax in early November and we were considering visiting New Forest as we are looking for something quite, to relax and enjoy the nature.

Never visited that part of the UK before so it's pretty unfamiliar to us. We are looking for suggestions in terms of accommodation, trails and hikes, food and other activities.

Unfortunately we don't have a car so we'd be looking to get a train to get there and potentially look for a cottage or cute cabin that's close to hikes and trails but also allows easy access to a station and other amenities as we'll need to walk to go around most likely.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Suggestions for a proposal within the New Forest area?

Hey guys, going to propose to my girlfriend and I'm trying to find beautiful outdoor locations, preferably within the New Forest (I'd be coming from the east). She loves horses so I was thinking around the Hatchet Pond area? I've not been there before but it looks gorgeous so maybe we get down there around sunset?

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Edit: you guys are the best. Thank you so much

Followed

Have always loved the New Forest, not living too far away has always been a place for walks and camping.

Years ago, probably 10+ now I took my boyfriend to look at sundews and as we got back to the car, the only other vehicle parked in the car park was a small white van and the driver was watching us. He then proceeded to follow us in his van, after visiting three different car parks I managed to shake him off when he got caught up behind some cows stood in the road. It was really horrible at the time though…why might he have been following us? what for? has it happened to anyone else?

Day after wedding place

Our wedding guests are staying in Lyndhurst in mid October.

We wanted to do something simple the day after the wedding in the town. We thought something like a picnic but that’s pretty weather dependent.

Any ideas for a relaxing place to gather mid day that could be outdoors or indoors.

Half the crowd is American and I’m sure they would love being around the wild horses.

Best way to get from Heathrow to Lyndhurst

Hello!

Apologies in advance if this question is commonly asked, non of my searches found any information.

We are arriving from Sweden in middle of September and will have to get from Heathrow to Lyndhurst. The current alternatives are as far as I can tell:

Taxi - £155 each way. Simple and quick but a bit expensive especially considering the weak Swedish Crown.
Bus - Taking a 2 hour bus from Heathrow to Southampton and then either taxi from there or another bus depending on what time we arrive. Around £100 including return as far as I can see
Train - Not really viable, seems very difficult, expensive and time consuming

My question is am I missing something and do you have any suggestions? Taxi is easiest and quickest of course and I might just bite the bullet and pay it but wanted to see if someone know something obvious that I've missed.

Thanks!

Edit: Thank you all for the advice! It seems we are going for the tube to Waterloo and train from there.

Traffic today Roger Penny Way

Early afternoon traffic was queuing from halfway between Deadmans car park and the Downton turnoff Fordingbridge bound all the way to the Fighting Cocks. Coming from Fordingbridge the queue started at the Stuckton turnoff. Cause? Tourists feeding Commoners animals and posing for photos outside the pub. Right in front of the dirty great yellow signs saying do not touch or feed the animals. Considering there is PSPO in place regarding this perhaps some education or enforcement is needed? The knock on affect was that the Bolderwood to Moyles Court road was also gridlocked. Traffic wasn't an issue for me but it must have been for everyone stuck in the queues on such a hot day.

What are typical flat rental prices in New Forest?

I know New Forest is a large area, but it's difficult to find many examples of flat lettings online, almost everything is a house letting. Among the various coastal towns in New Forest, what would the typical flat rental price be for one or two bed flat in a town centre? Thanks!

Desperate for wedding taxi 13th July

Plea for taxi company recommendations who might be available on the 13th July to transport 13 guests from Lyndhurst to Boldre (and back in the evening). We previously booked a minibus and a large taxi for our wedding but the company has dissolved with only 6 weeks to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Where to Stay?

My partner and I are planning a weeks stay in the New Forest this May and are a little overwhelmed with the options. Where would you recommend staying if we are looking for somewhere for a relaxed stay, surrounded by nature? We'll likely be looking to do some walks and prefer somewhere quieter and less fast paced. Budget wise, we are fairly flexible. We don't mind paying a premium for the ideal place, but we are mindful of cost. We won't be camping out and would prefer somewhere we can hire a cabin or cottage, or a nice hotel or B&B. Do you have any recommedations for a specific area that would suit us?

Walking ACROSS the New Forest. Any help with planning a route?

I have a target on my bucket list to walk a marathon. I'm thinking of walking ACROSS the New Forest, probably from West to East or vice versa. How joined up are all the walking routes? Can anyone recommend a route? When I look it up on Google Maps, it just suggests main roads.
