Visa (traveller from UK)

What is easier to get the VISA for 30 days when I arrive at the airport or to apply before online and send documents? Is it better to just get the VISA before to be safe?

Andasibe tips

I am planning on staying in the Andasibe area for 4 nights from 9-13 November. I am primarily interested in seeing as much wildlife as I can. I believe the parks to visit are: Analamazaotra Reserve, Mantadia National Park and V.O.I.M.M.A Reserve. I plan to do day and night tours if possible.

Can you recommend a good place to stay? I have a mid range budget. In other parts of Madagascar I've been staying at 3 star places that I thought were very nice. My main focus is feeling close to nature but I'm also heat sensitive. I'm guessing an air conditioned place will be too expensive but at least I need a good fan.

What tips can you give me about maximising my time there? Any "non mainstream" things you'd recommend I do in this area?

I was thinking I might stay in one location if possible and I wonder if the accomodation can simply arrange drivers and guides for the individual parks or do I need to bring my own driver along?

Antsiranana- Montagne d'ambre

Hello! We’ll be in Antsiranana for 11 hours from 7 AM to 6 PM in late december on a cruise, and I’m hoping to visit Montagne d’Ambre National Park to see the beautiful lemurs, chameleons, and waterfalls. The tours advertized online cost around $200-250 per person, which is more than we can comfortably spend, so I'm looking into organizing the trip independently if possible or with a local guide (french or english speaking would be ideal) I read that Joffreville is about a 45-minute drive from Antsiranana and close to the park entrance. I understand a guide is needed for the park, does anyone know if we can hire one at the entrance and how much are their services? or if there are guides available in Joffreville/Antsiranana that won't charge an arm and a leg? And would hiring a taxi from Antsiranana be a good option, either to wait for us or to find a return ride from Joffreville afterward? I really appreciate any local insights or advice on making this experience happen within our budget. I really wish I had more time to explore your country.

My plan B would be Three Bays of Antsiranana: For scenic views and beach walks, this area is closer and accessible by taxi (according to the internet.) If we have to settle for it we will but I would really love to go to montagne d'ambre. Montaigne des francais looks really nice as well.

Thank you!

Gaming in Madagascar?

Hey guys! I look at gaming cultures around the world and I am a racing game fan. I have asked all of these questions on different subreddits, simply because I am curious about how each and every single country on this planet experiences video games. I am also curious about gaming in Madagascar. My questions are:

What is more popular? PC or console?

What was more popular in the late 90s and early 2000s? PC or Console?

What racing game was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s!

What do racing game fans in Madagascar play today?-(I get it might not be the most popular genre, but for people who like it, what do they play?)

In general, what games are played there?

Also, what years did gaming become popular there? 2000-2003? 2004-05? Before 2000?

Thanks for your responses!!!!

Seeking Information for our Madagascar itinerary from locals and anyone else who has been there!!!

Hello everyone, me and about 7 of my friends booked our flights to Madagascar for a sum total of 10 days next month with little to no research with a vague understanding of what we want to see (Baobabs, lemurs and nosy be). So our trip will be like this... Antananarivo(2 days), for the Baobabs and other sights on the way (4 days) and Nosy Be (4 days). Our/my question was, what can we do in this short amount of time that will make our trip worthwhile??? Some have suggested Tsingy but idk please let me know if you have any ideas or thoughts. mostly for our drive to and from the Avenue of Baobabs!

Does anyone here needs dropshipping service?

Well, the thing is, I just started a business with my friend but unlike him, I only had one client. So, I was wondering if somebody here needed some dropshipping service ☺️

Are there any good AND cheap restaurants, in Antananarivo?

Along with my friends, I want to try new restaurants. It doesn't have to be Malagasy entirely. And well, thank you in advance :)

Living in Madagascar feels like a true nightmare.

Antananarivo in Darkness: When Power Cuts Turn Daily Life into a Living Hell

#Madagascar, known for its beauty and culture, is now trapped in an endless energy crisis. In #Antananarivo, we are living a true nightmare of daily power cuts: Approximately 16 hours without electricity, every single day of the week.

For remote workers and businesses, it’s a disaster. Workdays are shattered, deadlines are impossible to meet, and essential household appliances — fridges, TVs, computers — are constantly damaged due to surges and outages. With each blackout, repair costs pile up, leaving families in financial distress.

And daily life? Residents race against time, struggling to complete even basic tasks before darkness falls. At night, unlit streets become danger zones. The lack of security is alarming: thefts and burglaries are on the rise, and what was once our home feels increasingly unsafe.

When electricity becomes a luxury, is Madagascar becoming a living hell for its people?

👉 It’s time for authorities to act, and for all of us to demand a future where living in #Antananarivo doesn’t mean just surviving in darkness.

Am I going to the wrong parts of Madagascar or is this simply what it's like?

I was looking forward so much to my trip to a place with such unique fauna and flora. My tour focused mostly on wildlife parks, but in the first week we haven't seen a lot and the natural landscape was very depressing for me on the whole. We drove for two days straight through the inland, which has been turned into bush savannah style landscape (ie, deforested) with plenty of burning going on and not a wild bird in sight.

I visited Ifaty Spiny Forest Isalo Ranamafora Morondava

Will visit Grand Tsingy/Petit Tsingy Kirindy Avenue of baobabs Mantadia national park Andasibeb national park

Is the natural heritage of Madagascar really so reduced or is there a route I should take or place I should visit to change my mind?

EDITED TO ADD: I was expecting deforestation and I am aware of the tough situation the locals have that they need firewood daily simply to boil their drinking water. But it is a bit of a shock to see that the natural ecosystem has been all but wiped out.

Catholic University Law School in Antananarivo – Experiences?

Hello, everyone!

I’m curious to learn more about the Catholic University in Antananarivo, especially the law school. Could anyone share their experience or any insights about the academic structure? I’m particularly interested in whether the university follows a GPA-based system, what the law school experience is like, and what career opportunities are available after graduation.

If there are any alumni from the law school here, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the overall experience and any advice for prospective students.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Money withdrawal antanarivo Airport

Hi everyone, I was hoping someone here could help us. My boyfriend and I are traveling to Madagascar this week. We booked the trip via a tour guide who would like us to pay in Euro's on arrival. This is a rather large sum as it is the money for the hotels, guides and transportation. This is where the problem arises, we are both Europeans but we are currently in South Africa and we are unable to withdraw foreign currency here. We could withdraw Rands here and exchange them at the airport but we would prefer not to as this would mean paying 2 times the exchange fees. So therefore my question, could we withdraw Euro's from an ATM at the airport? Do they take Visa cards? I asked our guide if we can also pay in AR but he has not responded yet, and also I think this might not be ideal with the amount of bank notes we would end up with. Thank you in advance!

Sambava

Me and my friend will be going to Sambava on the 29th of October, and we will have a full day there. Is there any local market we should go to, so we can buy vanilla back as a local souvenir?

We would like to support local farmers, so we are considering going to the local market, but we do not really know, if it would be safe, what the price should be and how to look for good quality vanilla.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated (we are also going to Antananarivo and Nosy Be, if you think these are better spots to buy vanilla).

Looking for a hira fihirana

Does anyone know the number of the song in the Fihirana which uses the "God Saves the Queen" music ? And also, if I'm not mistaken, another song in the Fihirana uses the music of the German anthem. If you have any idea, thanks for telling me in the comments.
