Hi. .What would the cost of MACROSS VF-1S Super Valkyrie 1/55 in the 80;s cost ? What are they worth today?
Just got off a chat with Disney + USA and still no dates. They are using the spin that none of the articles I showed them are from Disney directly and that the USA rights are still not correct. I will admit. The Keith guy was nice.
It's been a while since I made my post about finishing Macross Zero, and I said that I would watch SDF Macross as well. Well...I've finally done it! Admittedly, I have also watched DYRL before any of the other Macross titles (although that was over a year ago tho), but I remember the movie's plot pretty well.
Anyway, onto my thoughts. SDF Macross was a wild ride, and it was a ride that I enjoyed a lot! I love the story and how everything unfolds, although those last nine episodes were a little rough imo. It was pretty frustrating to watch Hikaru flip flop between his relationships with Minmay and Misa, but at least episode 36 was able to bring a satisfying conclusion to the love triangle. Speaking of conclusions, it is incredibly obvious that episode 27 was supposed to be the final episode, and because of that, the last nine episodes feel like an overly long epilogue of sorts. The slow burn development of the love triangle there definitely contributes to this. Aside from that, the animation is pretty good for the most part, but it's definitely a little rough sometimes, with quite a few still frames and slightly wonky character drawings in some episodes, but it's forgivable. I have also heard that part of that is due to the fact that some of the animation was outsourced to some Korean studio, and that's why it sometimes looks funky. I will say though, the animation of the battle scenes in the latter half (and sometimes the first half) of the series is EYE MELTING and ASS TEARING. It's so friggin awesome. That's also why I think that the battle in episode 27 is peak Macross. When this series means to go all out, they go ALL OUT. I also gotta appreciate the mechanical designs by Shoji Kawamori. The VF-1 and its variants are all awesome and *sexy*. My two favorite VFs from the series are the VF-1J in first place, and VF-1S in second. They are both awesome and a delight for the eyes. I also like how after Roy dies, Hikaru starts using the VF-1S in his place. That's awesome storytelling right there. I am however a little bummed out that Hikaru's VF-1J isn't used anymore after he starts using the VF-1S. I mean, it makes sense why, but I'm still a little sad about that, since the J is my favorite craft from this series. At least Max and Milia start using the J variant in the last nine episodes, so I'm glad that the VF-1J wasn't abandoned entirely. I do think that after Hikaru starts using the VF-1S, they could've replaced the J variant with the S variant in the opening and eye catch, but I imagine that they didn't want to make another one of each. The titular Macross itself has also become one of my favorite ships in all of sci fi. I mean, it's so fucking cool! I love the other Macross ships, including the Macross Quarter and the battle class ships, but something about the OG just feels different, and I love it for that! I also gotta appreciate the opening theme. It gets me pumped every time I listen to it and got me pumped for each episode. It's one of those openings you NEVER skip. However, I have to admit, I started to get annoyed hearing "My Boyfriend is a Pilot" almost every episode after it was introduced. Hearing that almost every episode made me also appreciate when other songs would be played, like "Zero G Love" or "Shao Pai Long". Those songs are actual bangers! As for the characters, well...Misa and Claudia are best girls. There, I've said it. They're both better than Minmay, and you can never change my mind. I love Misa's design and her personality (she's a little like me tbh), and Claudia is such a nice girl, and I always like when she is on screen. That one episode exploring Claudia's relationship with Roy is probably one of my favorites of the series. I think we all need someone like Claudia in our lives. I also gotta show some respect to my boy Max. He's such a badass AND a chad! He literally had a knife fight with Milia, somehow got her to calm down, and proceeded to MARRY her because he loved her! If he's not the definition of a giga chad, then I don't know what is.
Anyway, this post is quite long, so TLDR: I FUCKIN LOVE MACROSS!!
I’m sure there are others, but in my watch of all the Macross stuff, these are the ones that stuck out to me most as being referenced off of irl planes. It’s a neat trend, I vastly prefer it to the Frontier/Delta VFs, they tend to all look pretty similar.
Okay. Here’s the deal. I’ve been watching the original 3 Robotech series since the 80’s. Love them, though Macross far more than Masters or New Gen. So, my question to all of you is…. What do I watch next? There is a lot of Macross out there I haven’t seen, I’d like to watch it but I’m a little lost on the watch order, as well as any series that are “known” to be crap and skippable. It can’t all be gold, can it? I’d appreciate any help. And yes, I know what Google is, but don’t always trust it. The Community, now that I trust.
Over the past two weeks I have been catching up on as much Macross as I have been able to get my hands on in the order that they arrived to me. First Macross II, then Frontier (and both movies), then Delta, and now Plus.
I absolutely loved Frontier, it was such a gripping story and great characters. Delta was ok but felt like it went in way too long. I’ll revisit Macross II, but I don’t think I really care for it.
But Plus feels so different. So gritty and compelling.
It felt like a special experience to finally get to see it.
Part of me wishes there was more of it but at the same time am content with such a small portion if that makes any sense.
Release date: 24 March 2025
According to the Anime News Network article:
It will include a 128-page book including artwork and staff interviews; an A3 folder poster; and eight art cards.
Back when I was a kid, I distinctly remember seeing a VF-1 toy that was really big back in 1990 that was at least 16 inches long in Hong Kong, don't know if it was possibly a knockoff but it has been stuck in my memories since then. Are my memories wrong or did a VF-1 toy that big really exist back then?
Did anyone pre-order this set? Crunchyroll is scheduled to drop on 11/30, but curious to know if those who ordered received shipping confirmation.
Comes out March 10, 2025. Can be pre-ordered from Amazon JPN. I remember seeing the post about the artbook that was suppsoed to release in 2019 but was seemingly cancelled.
Was a real pain to get it from Japan, and it finally arrived today. Stupidlu missed all previous releases and now I finally own a VF-1J DX after all these years.
Which type of Minmay did you like the most?
So I been being watching a lot of vintage mecha anime & I’m started on SDFM so how do I start collecting my macross collection? Anyone has a list of where to start? What versions do I get & what do I not?
