"According to the Nebraska Farm Bureau, those three countries alone purchased 95% of Nebraska’s corn exports, 90% of soybean exports, 57% of soybean meal exports, 32% of pork exports and 23% of beef exports."
So what happens if China, Canada and Mexico decide to stop importing corn and soybeans all together in retaliation from Trump's idiotic tariffs?
Let me shed a tear for all the farmers who voted against their interests...
In 2023, Nebraska exported 1.7 billion in goods to Canada, representing 21% of Nebraska's total goods. Over $500 million was ag machinery and natural gas and itwas steadily growing. Still think a trade war is good for the Cornhusker state? It is not Canada that will pay these tariffs, but all of us Huskers. This does not include any numbers for Mexico, China or the EU.
Edit: Corrected year and number amount. State Information sited for this post can be found at the United State Trade Representative website.
I work at a Sam's club and the meat prices have risen by almost 50% over night.
For reference, our ground beef used to be $2.98/lbs, it's not $4.76/lbs.
Stock up before it gets too late and stay safe!
Hello,
I am looking for an honest opinion. I found an article that listed Lincoln, Nebraska as a city with affordable cost of living and a decent job market. Does anyone agree with this? Currently we live in Arizona and are looking for places to move to that have a good cost of living to job market ratio.
Thank you
With all the talk of tariffs against Canada, how much electricity does Nebraska actually get from our northern neighbor? I’m just trying to be realistic about this when Canada said they’d hit red states specifically. Don’t we make a lot of our own via wind and hydro and coal?
I’m just trying to be educated on this topic and settle some fears. Thanks!
Since Thursday I have called Flood every day. So far I have mentioned how he was not on my ballot in 2020, it was Bacon and a few months later it's Flood. I've blasted him for falling in lockstep with trump and asked how he squares with his Christian faith and supporting trump. My intent is to have my voice heard which I have never gotten this involved in politics but I feel that as a white male I need to do all I can to help those being targeted by hate.
Are there any tips or "ammo" (rest assured I am not crazy and in no way would resort to violence as I own zero guns) for my daily calls.

Repost had to edit the user on the you know what site.
This bill, LB89, was introduced to discriminate against transgender individuals in our state. It's absolutely ridiculous. I have never felt like I needed protection from trans women in the bathroom, and I'll bet you haven't, either. Shit, I've had regular cis men in the lady's room, and it's not anything but funny. If you agree with me, this bill is open for public comment. Please support our transgender community.
Follow up: I've never had a post go off like this before. It's interesting that the first, idk 400 comments were of quality and substance, and the last 50 or so include a lot of vitriol.
Are we doing this?
Recently President Trump has indicated his desire to eliminate FEMA.
Nebraska has faced devastating disasters—from historic floods to destructive wildfires—that state and local resources alone couldn't handle. In these moments, FEMA has been the difference between recovery and catastrophe.
Here are three key examples of FEMA's impact in Nebraska when the state couldn’t handle disasters alone:
🔴 2019 Historic Flooding – One of the worst floods in Nebraska’s history caused over $1.3 billion in damages, destroying homes, roads, and infrastructure. The state declared a disaster, but the scale was too great to handle alone. ➡️ FEMA’s Response: ✔️ $27 million in direct assistance to Nebraskans ($24 million for housing). ✔️ $516 million in public assistance for infrastructure repairs. ✔️ $31 million for flood mitigation projects.
🔴 2024 Tornadoes & Severe Storms – Devastating tornadoes struck Nebraska in April 2024, particularly impacting Douglas and Washington counties. State resources were stretched thin, especially in rural areas with limited emergency response capacity. ➡️ FEMA’s Response: ✔️ Immediate assistance for housing repairs, rental support, and essential needs. ✔️ Disaster aid for food, water, and medical supplies. ✔️ Public infrastructure repairs are underway.
🔴 2012 Drought & Wildfires – Nebraska experienced one of its worst droughts, leading to massive wildfires that burned over 500,000 acres. 65 structures were destroyed, and the cost of fighting those wildfires was in excess of $12 million. The state lacked the firefighting resources to manage the crisis. ➡️ FEMA’s Response: ✔️ Fire Management Assistance Grants (FMAGs) for emergency firefighting and suppression. ✔️ Aid to local fire departments to restore critical services.
There are more examples, but these three show how FEMA is not just a bureaucratic entity—it’s a lifeline when disasters overwhelm local capabilities. Nebraska, like every state, faces disasters too large to manage alone. Eliminating or weakening FEMA would put lives, property, and infrastructure at risk, leaving communities without the crucial federal support they need to recover.
Where Does Our Leadership Stand? 👀 Will Nebraska’s congressional delegation and State leaders support strong FEMA funding & disaster relief?
📢 What’s your take? Should our elected leaders push to keep FEMA and strengthen the agency through targeted reforms and strategic enhancements?
Conspiracy of silence was never aired. PreDiddy, PreEpstien, PreCosby, there was BoysTown. Thoughts’?
I emailed my senator and was surprised I recieved a response. What are your thoughts on what he says? Some things actually make sense to me, while others are more sketchy.
First, I think it is important to clarify that LB645 will not “raid” any existing retirement plan. The legislative intent behind the bill is that once a retirement plan is 100% funded, meaning the plan has sufficient funding to satisfy all of its future obligations, then the state can relax its 2% contribution to the plan. Teachers will continue receiving the same level of benefits that their employers and the state have promised to them.
Second, it is important to note that this bill will not apply to OPS’s OSERS plan, as this plan does not currently enjoy the same funding ratio as the state plan. More importantly, it is also worth mentioning that no changes to any state retirement plan can be implemented until an actuarial study is conducted to show that with those changes, the plan’s funding will continue to be healthy and sustainable. So, if the plan’s funding level drops and it needs the 2% contribution from the state, it will continue to receive full state support.
LB 645 aims to reduce the state’s contribution as our retirement portfolios perform better and become more able to self-fund all current and anticipated obligations. For example, if the funded ratio is 92% or lower, the state will continue to contribute the full 2% to provide stability to all portfolios that are less able to cover their current and projected obligations. The state will continue contributing to all portfolios until they have a 100% funded ratio. Only those fully funded plans will no longer receive the full 2% contribution from state general fund dollars.
In linking state contributions to the portfolio’s funded ratio, LB 645 aims to keep the system stable and well-funded over the long term while saving taxpayer dollars when the portfolio is already performing at a high level. At the very least, this bill begins a conversation our state should have about what changes should be made to our retirement systems once they surpass 100% funding.

Posting so that people are aware of what the Unicameral is thinking about.
I’ve searched on this sub for more info, but I have been seeing talk of nationwide peaceful protests at every state’s respective capitol on this day. Does anyone have any additional information on more specific times and such? I really want to be a part of it, if i am able to.
Thanks in advance. :)

🏳️🌈 Nebraska friends! If you consider yourself an ALLY, here’s one super simple but incredibly important thing you can do— but it needs to happen TODAY! 🏳️🌈
🏛️ Did you know Nebraska’s Constitution STILL defines marriage as only between a man & a woman? This outdated amendment was passed in 2000, long before our society evolved to embrace equality.
💍 Of course, this was overturned in 2015 by the Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage nationwide. But Supreme Court rulings can change, and with recent political shifts, there’s concern that marriage equality could be at risk.
⚖️ GOOD NEWS: Nebraska has TWO constitutional amendment resolutions that can fix this outdated language! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
📅 The hearing is TOMORROW (Jan 31) at 1:30 PM— but you can submit your online comment TODAY to show support!
📢 Here’s how you can help in just 5 minutes:
✅ LR5CA – Removes outdated language restricting marriage to only a man & woman. (Submit as a PROPONENT / FOR) 🔗 Submit your comment here: https://nebraskalegislature.gov/bills/view_bill.php?DocumentID=59576

The so called "Stand With Women" act directs all state agencies to systematically discriminate against trans and gender nonconforming people. It is nothing short of an attempt to eradicated trans and GNC folks from the state of Nebraska.
There will be a hearing on the bill Friday Feb. 7th at 1:30pm in room 1507. Show up and stand up for the trans and GNC folks who are being targeted with the full force of the state. We are in danger. We need your help.
From the bill:
Sec. 8. Each state agency in the adoption and promulgation of administrative rules and regulations, the enforcement of administrative decisions, and the adjudication of disputes by administrative agencies shall define a person's sex as such person's biological sex, meaning either a male or female.
EDIT: Something went wrong with the quote so I fixed it.
