Anyone know general cost to ship a small car from kauai to big island?

I was looking online but can't find an exact answer, or the info is from 10 yrs ago.

My car is 1800lb so it would be in the 'small' category.

Looking for a ballpark estimate.

Just a tip for those filling up their water at the fill stations.

Reverse osmosis filtration works great but it also removes all good minerals from the water. Because H20 is naturally attracts minerals it will actually deplete your body of minerals over time as it passes through. A well balanced diet would have you not even noticing it but it can cause electrolyte imbalances and it's advisable to add minerals to the water either with a pinch of sea salt or mineral packets. Source: I went to urgent care after not being able to digest water anymore but not feeling sick.

If you take your dog to the dog park, it does not mean… I’m going to sit down go on my phone and ignore everything going on and let my dog do whatever it wants..🐶

People please… When you take your dog to the dog park, you still have a responsibility to keep it ‘semi’ under control and to clean up after it… I’m seeing way too many people come in let their dogs go and then they go on their phone and totally ignore everything else going on.. it’s rude to everyone being responsible for their dog 🐕..

Kokee Cabins

Thought I would post here because if I posted on a fb or public group I would get roasted for starting the dialogue. Folks are all fired up about the Kokee cabin leases. Which has comments reverting to “all lands in Hawaiian hands”. I get that the land was illegally overtaken and the Hawaiian government was overthrown. No questions there. I enjoy a good philosophical conversation so here we go…

What would people like to happen to non Hawaiian owned land? Should it be taken from non Hawaiians? How far back do they go? Anyone that isn’t Hawaiian gets their land taken? How much Hawaiian heritage do you need (50%, 10%)? Or are Portuguese, Japanese okay? But only if they lived here a couple of generations? But how many generations? Do we compensate the people that get their homes taken? Who gets the land? How do we decide what Hawaiian gets what land?

Other strange thoughts on the topic I have had… What do you think Hawaii would be like if the US didn’t overthrow the government? Do you think another Government would have taken over/ colonized it? Would it be like Tahiti and ruled by French? Maybe like Australia and NZ and influenced by the British.

What if not one country influenced it at all. Would it the Hawaiian islands be like today? Would it have a decreasing population like some Pacific islands?

Anyway. Just some random thought about the subject.

El Rey del Mar has a new brick-and-mortar location in Kapaa

The Mexican food truck that used to be next to the Otsuka building, then moved across the street from Tamba, has a new sit-down location in the old Foodland shopping center.

They soft-opened today so we went to check it out and it's very good. The ceviche was superb. Prices are fair. The menu is the same as the truck, plus a bunch of new items.

It's definitely a lot better than Monico's.

Invasive species spear fishing?

I heard from a buddy that there are charters on Kona where you can spear fish invasive species like lion fish. This sounds super cool and I’m curious if anyone else has heard about charters on Kauai doing the same.

North Shore Preserve

I must have missed the news but this is a huge development going in near Anini. Between this and Kukuiula the island is being inundated with McMansions.

Koke'e Cabin Auctions Results

This is an early result of the recent cabin auctions in Koke'e. It's not finalized until leases are signed etc., so this is not posted publically yet. Absolutely wild early numbers though.

Note that this is what the winners would pay per year, not including any property taxes, insurance, maintenance, etc. I think leases are 14 years, so they will likely be paying upwards of $600,000 for access until about 2039.

You can watch this video to see what the cabins look like to match it up with the chart. Some of them are sweet but some are decrepit. You can only use your cabin for 6 months per year.

Is access to Uluwehi (Secret) falls closed?

I heard DLNR closed access due to the boardwalk getting washed out, but I don’t see any mention of it on their website.

Is the Nawiliwili Tavern supposed to reopen?

I'm moving back after years away and was sad to see my favorite dive being gutted. I can't find much info on what the plans are for that building. Is the tavern coming back? Any idea who bought it?

Polihale Road

Has anybody been out to Poli since the rain? Supposed to go camping there this weekend and I was wondering how bad the road is. Don't mind some bumps, but not looking to kill my car.

Water Testing Post-4.11 Rain - PSA

This is a public service announcement for both travelers and locals alike.

(locals, in particular) You may intuitively know that heavy rains mean water issues (re: brown water advisories). We (Surfrider) happened to do our monthly testing this past Saturday, a day after the heavy rains on Thursday evening/Friday. In reality, it's been raining pretty constant since Thursday night.

I'm not posting the full data here as I'm still going through the calculations (you can check out the Kauai Surfrider Blue Water Task Force for posted data sometime tomorrow), but I wanted to let you know that our fresh water streams/waterways are absolutely gross right now.

Here are the biggest offenders that have high fecal bacteria counts well over (like, by a lot) the known limit for human health:

- Wainiha Stream - Hanalei River - Moloa'a Stream - Anatolia Bay Surf (by the river) - Kealia Surf (by the water way) - Wailua River Park - Koloa Landing (the highest of all tested) - Hanamaulu Bay Beach (by the water way) - Hanamaulu Stream (second highest) - Kalapaki Shore - Nawiliwili Stream - Pakala's.

As an infectious disease dr my best advice is to not go in the fresh water here at this time. If you must go, some simple precautions: don't go in if you have cuts/scrapes, do not get water in your eyes/ears/nose/mouth, etc., rinse off thoroughly.

Aloha.
