Created in response to poor management of /r/holocaust, this is a safe, secure, and passionate community dedicated to full discussion, reflection, and conversation about The Holocaust.

Language Facts:

  • HaShoah (השואה) is the Hebrew name for The Holocaust (The Disaster by fire).
  • In Yiddish, The Holocaust is called Hurban (חורבן) (also transliterated as khurbn or churban) roughly translates to "Destruction."
  • Porajmos refers to the Romani aspect of The Holocaust. It means "Devouring" in some Romani dialects. There are other terms in other dialects that also refer to the Roma, Sinti, and gypsy genocide(s).

Rules:

  • No bigotry, hatred, or discrimination of any kind. This rule cannot be emphasized enough! This community is expected to follow redditquette.
  • No outright Holocaust denial or revisionist history. Relevant discourse will be allowed on a case-by-case basis.
  • No anti-semitism and any form of racism against anyone. This is so important, it's said twice in two different ways in this list.
  • No statement, link, or expression in support of National-Socialist Parties (i.e. Nazi) from anywhere in the world.
  • Any quotes or references in comments or text posts must be cited either to an active webpage or a legitimate, scholarly source.

  • Mods must be notified with a reason for any reporting on comments, posts, or links. The message to the mods must either reference an existing /r/HaShoah rule or reddiquette standard, or include a legitimate reason for the report. Failure to do so may lead to your report being ignored. PLEASE help us and send us a reason why a link is being reported.

  • Do not editorialize headlines. This will result in a post being removed, although you of course have the option of resubmitting with a more appropriate headline. If you have an opinion concerning the post, please express it in the comments.
