Where to buy marvel legend figures?

I saw a small shop in Dongshankou but figured there must be a large shop somewhere. Ideally just marvel legends or even Star Wars black series (yeah I know people are going to mock a grown man for wanting figures but I’m going through a hellish mental phase and I just want something to remind me of my home and life back in the West).

Legal assistance

My mother is said to be arrested and the only information i have is a picture of the hotel address. Located in Guangzhou. Nothing more. We wanted your help in finding out which station she is at and what could be done to get her out as soon as possible. She is a foreigner and we dont have the best consulate to depend on.

Please assist with any information in regards to finding legal assistance to take possible action. Before flying all the way to China with no heads up.

Best places to live when working near South China Normal Uni metro stop

Hello! I've just moved to Guangzhou and the closest metro stop to my work is South China Normal Uni.

Ideally I'd like to live around a 20/25 minute cycle from work and not spend more than 3,500RMB/month for a studio.

What would be good suburbs that would fulfill those criteria? :)

Staying in a hotel & PSB registration

My understanding is that as a foreigner I will need to register with the local police (PSB?) within 48 hours of arriving to Guangzhou.

The XANA hotel I am staying at has confirmed they're approved for foreign guests. But when I ask if they can help me with aforementioned registration, they said they can not.

In some places I read that this sort of thing happens automatically. So perhaps the staff answering the question is not aware of that happening.

What is the right approach here?

Stores like shoes and electronics

Hi everyone. I want to find stores that sell authentic brands but they sell cheaper than the original price. I was hoping I could find some but its just quite hard to find info when everything is in chinese and I cant even verify the legitimacy of the product.

So far for shoes like big brands such as adidas, nike, new balance, i have only seen in malls and big shopping areas which have similar pricing in other countries. I have seen shoe stores in some areas but they are either fake or replica with bad quality.

And for electronics, recently I went to Donghu lu where theres a big electronics stores and theres was a bunch of foreigners and they were selling stuffs like ipads, macbook, drones, cameras, headphones from big brands like apple, samsung, sony, canon but I cant help noticing that some of them are too cheap or too expensive which i dont even know if they are authentic as well. For example I saw the sony xm5 headphones for like 150 yuan but in other countries it would go for like 2000 yuan. I wanted to buy but it feels to good to be true haha.

Sorry if this is a rant, I just wanna buy stuff here with good quality cuz im poor lol. Thank you in advance for responding!

Are there any Diecast stores in Guangzhou?

I’m looking for stores (not E-shops) that sell 1/18 Diecast car models?

I’d like a store that sells models such as LCD, Norev, Minichamps, Autoart, KK-scale.

Heads Up If You're Considering WeWork in Guangzhou

For anyone looking into WeWork in Guangzhou, note that WeWork China operates separately from the rest of the world. This means you can't use your international membership here if you're from another country. It took me a bit of time to figure this out.

Despite this, the setup is quite similar to other locations. I visited one of their sites today, and the front desk staff was extremely helpful and gave me a tour.

Here are their current pricing options:

  • Basic access to a desk: 1240 RMB/month
  • Permanent desk: 1840 RMB/month

Additionally, they offer a separate PASS program, which allows access to various WeWork locations across China at slightly higher rates.

I'm planning to opt for the basic access next month. Let me know if anyone wants to join!

Free Guangzhou Tour Guide

Hello everyone, I am located in Guangzhou, China. I am a data analyst but have been laid off for about half year and unable to find a new job. I want to explore more possibilities for myself, and also practise my spoken English and make more interesting friends to broaden my horizons.

Therefore, I am tentatively posting this message to see if there are any English-speaking foreigners who would like to come to Guangzhou for a tour. Below are the services provided and some important details:

  1. Free tour guide service. If you are satisfied, tipping is appreciated (although I am not a professional guide, I will do my best to research and explain things to you in English).
  2. Assistance with payment for expenses (I can help you pay for any costs, and you can transfer the money to me later).
  3. Hotel reservations.
  4. Itinerary planning.
  5. Take you to eat authentic and affordable local food while avoiding expensive influencer chains.
  6. Other cities in Guangdong Province are also available, but travel fees are required.
  7. Chinese language teaching, including Mandarin and Cantonese. My English level is normal and I can also speak Japanese (with N1 certificate).
  8. I am a 30-year-old male with no vices or bad habits.

If you are interested, please contact my email(hlz455@qq.com) or WeChat(18826417711), DM may be missed.

Accommodation and commuting to LongXue island

Hi, despite having no knowledge of Guangzhou, my company has asked me to look into accommodation for 3 foreign engineers who will be coming to work in the shipyard on LongXue Island in around a year's time. I would be really interested to get your opinions on the best place for them to stay, at least temporarily until they get used to the city. I'm traveling to Guangzhou next week. So far, based on other posts in this sub, I'm going to look at Nansha for the convenience of getting to the shipyard, and Zhujiang New Town and Liede for easy living for expats, even though it will be a long commute for them. I don’t know the people coming out very well, other than that they are expats who do not speak Chinese. Are there any other areas you would recommend looking at? Thanks.

Do any of you know if it is possible to rent a computer monitor for a couple of months? I will be in Guangzhou (Clifford Estates) for a couple months, and looking at a 15 inch laptop would sure be nicer with an external monitor!

Few Questions

Hello,

I have been in guangzhou the past couple of days and it’s been fun so far. I just have a few questions.

  1. How do you pay for the bus and use it? Thankfully someone showed me how to use the metro so it’s been my main go to for certain places but some places that it doesn’t reach the buses go.

2 how good are the products on taobao? Been using that to buy small trinkets and a few snack. Are the clothes there good quality or is it a hit or miss?

3 I have been craving korean bbq and Cambodian food, do y’all have any recommendations near Taojin station or walking distance of that?

Thank you
