The Grand Rapids beer scene is exploding. I wanted to create a place for like-minded individuals to further enjoy "Beer City".

Can we talk about how City Built Brewing co. is the most overrated brewery in Grand Rapids? From the food, the service, and ESPECIALLY the BEER!
Would love to find out!
EASTBROOK MALL FRONT LOT / BACK IN THE DAY / A BIG FAT RUBEN SANDWICH AND A SAMPLER BOARD OF HOMEBREW ON TAP.
DOES ANYONE KNOW OR CAN HELP ME WITH A LOCAL LAGER / I USED TO LIKE BOSTON LAGER BUT HAD LOST THE TASTE FOR THIS AFTER COMPLICATIONS THE NEXT DAY AFTER FEELING OF PARALYSIS AND FUZZINESS? I GUESS YOU COULD CALL IT OLD AGE BUT I THINK THE FORMULA WAS OFF ABOUT A YEAR AGO. STILL LOVE THE TASTE BUT CANT CHANCE THE NEXT DAY AFTER EFFECTS, BUD TASTES JUST FINE BUT WOULD LIKE A FULLER TASTING BRAND.
WOW! For a very active beer swilling city, this grbrew community (812 members) has really surprised me. I know the beer aficionados are out there so you must be more into drinking than typing. Posts prior to mine are a year or more old! The Bars are back so that may be it. I'm heading down to The Score.
Oh well... ENJOY!
I am going back to my Dragon's Milk (with a double shot of Jamiesons for chaser) YUM! 😎
[ps: Yesterday 2-18-21 there were 812, today 811 members. Someone dropped out. Can NOT be the quality of the beer being brewed here in West Michigan. Go figure!]
Years ago we used to have a small homebrew club here in the Grand Rapids area. We had a newsletter affectionately called The Rubber Chicken. I cant recall any of the active brewers from then but it was fun meeting and sampling other beers and bringing some of my own to share. I even made and brought some melomel (fruit mead) which was a hit. I was just getting into mashing too. FUN!
One of the places we would meet was the home of the original owner of Ogies Party Store. He was a supporter of the homebrew scene at the time. I no longer homebrew because of all the great craft brews available now.
I am particularly fond of all the various stouts but I LOVE DRAGONS MILK! 💖😜🍺
Porchdrinking.com would love to expand our coverage in Michigan. We’re looking for creative writers who share our same vision to promote craft beer in a positive light through strong storytelling. We’re also looking for people who are deeply involved in the social scene of their region.
Currently the focus of the site is on national brands and press, however, we are currently setting up regional pages for each state in the country. To do this, we need to build a team from the ground up in every state. Michigan is one of the richest states for beer culture. With over 300 breweries and counting, getting complete coverage is difficult with only a handful of people. We are hoping to add a minimum of 20 writers and other roles in 2021, hopefully more. This is not a full time gig, and it is not paid, yet (as we expand coverage and attract more advertisers, this could change), we hope to find Michigan writers with a passion for craft beer and who can commit to at least one article per month.
Regional Team Roles:
News Writers- Cover new beer releases, brewery news
Feature Writers- Write long-form stories, city guides, lists
Events Editor- Compile a weekly round-up of your city’s beer events (Beer Beat)
Release Editor - Compile a weekly round-up of packaged beer releases in your region (Release Watch)
Events Writer- Cover events with both previews and recaps
Photographers/Videographers- Shoot events and beer
Ad Sales- Reach out to local businesses to sell ads for regional pages
Event Planner- Work with breweries, restaurants, bottle shops to set up events
To apply, please go to https://www.porchdrinking.com/about/join-our-team/
I got one haven’t tried it yet. Thoughts?
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the great bottleshop recs. I wanted to share my breweries with all of you and see if I was missing any, or if there were any I should skip.
On the way: Arclight Brewing
New Holland: Odd Side Ales Grand Armory Ales New Holland
In GR: Brewery Vivant Speciation
Thanks for all your help.
Heading to GR this weekend. I know the big players in the area Founders/Vivant etc, but which of the smaller, more local breweries are the best? Smaller places that have a strong local following would be great.
Has anybody seen the new Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere mixed 12 pack yet? The SN online beer finder is useless.
Anyone know of any spots that have Waldo's from Lagunita's hanging around still?
This isn't a Michigan brew, but I'm having trouble finding it sold anywhere. It's Destihl Brewing's Dasvidanya Stout. I had it at a bar, but can't find it sold anywhere. I go to Destihl's "Beer Finder" and so far 0 out of 3 of the stores that supposedly sell Destihl, have had any from them at all when I physically checked. Does anyone know any place in GR whether it's a party store or gas station that may sell them?
Heading to Grand Rapids next weekend to drink our way around your lovely city. Trying to find some great breweries/brew pubs that are dog friendly since we'll have 2-3 dogs on the trip. Appreciate your help!
Going to in GR at the end of November, does anyone know if most of the breweries are open on Thanksgiving Eve?
According to the ticketing site, this years Founders Fest has sold out. Does anyone know if tickets are still available at the brewery? If not, I am ISO 1-3 tickets.
