A MCH's reaction to new SMN

The design is fine, it's clearly got something to do with Lunar Bahamut and would make a cool boss, but as SMN's new demi it comes out of absolutely nowhere.

This thing almost looks like it should have been MCH's capstone, it's so neon, mecha and streamlined compared to the chonky OG. It's bad enough that it's just 'Bahamut, Yet Again', but it also really doesn't fit in aesthetically with any of the summons right now. I know the lore supposedly prevents more egis, but any lore that results in some clone instead of something new is way too restrictive for a playable class. I mean, I call forth an army's worth of machinery out of hammerspace including drones, satellites, and a freaking mech powered only by my own magic, I'm sure the SUMMONER can manage to summon more than 5 guys.

(I'm extremely happy with MCH's 'Say Hello to my Little Friend' capstone, so I don't particularly want Solar Bahamut either - I'm just positing why this design feels off to so many people.) What are your thoughts on Dawntrail SMN or your own main jobs?

For those concerned about SMN and other classes

Yoshi p stated that

The reason they made solar bahamut is that the current bahamut that we know is based off the allagan's idea of bahamut.

Solar bahamut is something closer to its form or something we have cooked up.

Yoshida also said that, now that 7.0 is in place as a base state that they want for jobs, he said that 8.0 will be the time for job identities to differ hugely.

This means that, we might have summoner with even more customizations, and primals in never before seen forms.

Instead of doom and gloom.

I'd say, let them cook.

XIVLauncher on Linux - Steam doesn't close/stop game after you close game via XIVLauncher

When running XIVLauncher and closing it, FFXIV is still "running" on Steam. Ticking option for game to ignore Steam works for closing and opening the launcher, but when playing the game and exiting the game, Steam still displays it as "running", and when clicking "stop" via Steam the game doesn't close. System monitor doesn't help either as I can't find the game there or XIVLauncher, and the only way to stop FFXIV from displaying as "running" is to "kill" Steam via system monitor. It's always counting hours in the background unless I kill the process every time I choose to stop playing the game.

Dawntrail Bahamut Upgrade Lore

So as some people have seen by now, demi bahamut is getting an upgrade, likely the 100lv cap trait to do so. Im curious though if smn will get a special return of a job quest to explain how this is even possible?

I dont recall much from smn's storyline but what I do recall was something about only being able to channel bahamuts power because the lands were soaked in its aether and all around you, therefore you could start to harness it.

So imma need a lore reason as to why suddenly demi bahamut gets a new look that he never was shown to have. They tied bahamut powers to smn with lore, so if they try to handwave the why I'd be disappointed.

EDIT: It's also a giant plot hole now, since tiamat was the only one involved in his summoning egged on by the ascians and then later captured by the allagans. And Heavensward showed it clear as day dragons have REALLY good long term memory so how'd she end up forgetting what her lover looked like?

If anything this new bahamut should at least be the one she did summon since if its closer to her lover, surely it'd be the one logically that she would make up, even tho the one we know of should be THE bahamut since it was his lover that created that version.

And before anyone tries to say "She was under extreme duress! That probably molded her view of him!" Nope doesnt work, the kobald kid was also in immense duress and yet he (a child as well) was able to summon a picture perfect view of how the kobalds envision titan with no amoralities at all.

Pictomancer Question

Hi I was wondering if there is a way to play Pictomancer without progressing the story all the way. My GF loves the look of it but is still in ARR. And she'd love to play it through the story. With the level skips purchases would it be possible to get the class before reaching dawntrail?

Upgrade House Sizes in FF14

Hi guys,

well I plan to buy a small house. Just to get into housing for now and because I dont have the money for a medium sized one yet. But I was wondering, lets say in a few month you have the money for a medium house how does that "upgrade" work. Do you first have to get rid of your small plot? Or can you just get in the lottery for a medium house while you have your small house? And then in case you get the medium house, do you then have to bulldoze the small? And do you get the money then back? And what about the furniture?

Thanks for the answers btw. <3

RAF Question!!

Hi WoLs!

I'm just wondering how this works. My boyfriend is on the free trial on xbox and I want to recruit him for both of us to get some rewards. Does he need to buy the full game first then enter the recruitment code on the MogStation for it to work? Currently, there is no redeem code option which I assume is because he is a free trial player. Is that why? Please clarify thank you!

FFXIV x Mountain Dew Calculator (I did this in 20 minutes)

Hi Everyone,

I made a rough spreadsheet on how many days it would take to get any combination of items from the Mountain Dew x FFXIV Collab. Please let me know if there are any questions or advice! I did this on a whim to help a friend and thought it would be nice to share! :)

NOTE: Please save your own copy to make any edits.

Lots of work but happy with the result overall. I am hoping DT update will expand the item limit. 100 is too little to furnish.

Dawntrail AST rework is enigmatic and confusing

Hi I'm Ahri.

We've known AST was going to get a rework in 7.0 for 2 years, right? Wrong. We've known it since it was first revealed back in June 2013.

Okay lighthearted joke about how the job gets reworked every expansion out of the way, this is the first time the changes have seemed..enigmatic. Since 4.0's adjustments I have had a good bead on the direction the devs were going with AST, what philosophy they are employing, and what the intentions are. It has been a fun job overall to me for the last 7 years! Frequently controversial, but usually understandable, the job design has been pretty consistent at core levels every couple years. While the micro mechanics of the job constantly change - which, understandably, leaves some people miffed and displeased - the core essence of the job has been stable, and that is what has kept it fun and engaging to a majority of its raiding population:

The upcoming changes, honestly, do not make a lot of sense right now.

EDIT: And to be clear at this point to those that only make it this far but don't read the rest, I am not particularly doomed or upset unlike some of my peers. I'm mostly just confused. I think this rework could end up being pretty good when all's said and done. It could also end up being pretty bad. Both opinions can exist.

AST is a job which has always forced one to receive unknown variables, and had to react to the situation to make the most out of them as possible. However there is another aspect to the job: investing resources early, to get higher value out of them later. It is a very satisfying job to execute when your decisions are efficient, and intelligent. I feel this latter idea is where they are trying to shift cards - which currently represent the former - towards. Unfortunately, there is a chance that this may fall flat in execution and reduce AST away from the type of job people enjoy for those who currently play it, versus the type of job people who do not play AST want it to be. It is okay to try and appease the latter to bring more people into a way to play the game, and very understandable why someone who feels a job is inaccessible would want things to change so they can. However, we do not live in a zero sum game of healing options here. I warn against the dangers of alienating people in lieu of trying to overstuff accessibility.

Perhaps a rare opinion from my side here, I am not actually all too upset about the removal of RNG. I do not feel that randomness is somehow intrinsically necessary to the job. It makes it fun, yes, since they have done a good job using randomness to offer skill expression without having a significant impact on your own performance. You can high roll and low roll, of course, but negative outcomes are extraordinarily rare and we got to the point in EW where even a low rolling AST still performs at a very good level. It adds some exhilaration and interest to the job--how no 2 pulls will be necessarily alike.

However, I have great concerns about the manner in which they have decided to take this 0 RNG trial route. Making our 4-pack Sleeve Draw possibly* give us 1 DPS card per usage, has some grievous consequences on gameplay. It means there will be a frequent occasion our rotation ends up consistently trashing half our cards, which will end up feeling extraordinarily awful knowing that half our deck is going to do nothing. On the flipside, during prog season those mitigative and curative cards are going to feel oppressively strong. Some people have grievances about feeling forced to play AST despite them not liking its current state because of its performance capabilities in the best hands (which is not actually a problem nor the current state of healer balance, but that's another topic); this has potential to be exacerbated even further when AST can have this much defensive utility in one button. It could be fun and interesting depending on execution, but there's a very real chance it will feel rather boring and uninspired. The chance we will not really be..reacting, to a situation, per se, but moreso we will know every rotation we will utilize x card for y purpose, and the cards will feel like Just Another Button, I Guess.

(* - based on wording we do not technically know if each 4-card pack is 1 Damage/1 Mitigative/1 Curative + Lady/Lord. It is the most reasonable interpretation, makes the most occam's razer-style sense, and I am 95%+ sure this is the case...however we do not, actually, technically know this is the case. Their wording was somehow just vague enough to give me pause here. I do not think Yoshi was being coy on purpose, but nonetheless...)

This will feel quite strange.

This is all speculation. We do not know tooltips, and do not know what is to come. I am not particularly doomer about the upcoming situation, since I can already envision ways the current 60s Sleeve rotation could end up being pretty fun overall to execute. I am open-minded and welcome the opportunity ahead. However, the direction they have chosen does not make much sense, does not currently line up with the way the job has always played since its inception, and has potential to be a real albatross for Square.

Of course this could all be for naught and maybe the job ends up a banger once we see tooltips. I can definitely be missing something since I have not been involved in the rework process because my dad does not, actually, own Square Enix. Even if things look grim, there is opportunity for things to become fun even within the restrictions we already know of. I caution against excessive concern, but also implore a skeptical eye. I will keep an eye on things and may make another post once we see tooltips.

I will leave off with a good quote I saw earlier today as a sufficient-enough tl;dr:

"I can't say for certain whether new Astro is fun or not; I can say for certain they've removed things I find interesting about Astro."

Also that Galaxy From Beyond looks hecking AMAZING I can't wait for it to provide 40% mitigation and we get one step closer to AoE Hallowed Ground AST celebrating 4 expansions in a row with the best capstone baybeeeeee suck on them apples

Opposite job of SAM?

Hello! I've been on a pretty big hiatus from xiv for a while, and I was wondering which job I should play!

Instead of telling you random facts that may or may not help, all I want to ask is, what is the opposite job of samurai?

The reason I'm asking this is simply because my best friend and I ALWAYS play opposite things in videogames, and he mains samurai! Though he also likes reaper.

For some further context, he tends to play highly mobile and high damage classes with low defensive capabilites in most games we play. LS in monster hunter, mai natsume from blazblue, scout in deep rock galactic, hunter in destiny 2, etc.

I tend to play the opposite of those things. Heavy/slow things with good defense or high damage and high health. Stuff that I play are heavy bowgun in monster hunter, grapplers in fighting games (tager from blazblue), gunner in deep rock galactic, titan in destiny 2, you get the picture.

There's a certain dynamic between us that I'm fairly sure exists in xiv, but im just not sure what tbh.

If they announced there was to be a 3rd ultimate an expansion what should it's "theme" be?

Imo alliance raids as ultimates would have so much potential and would eventually mean a nier ult lol.
