Helene/Milton refugees

This is a rough ask.

My family (myself, my husband, disabled aunt, best friend) have been living on the Florida Gulf coast for 16/22/34/28 years, respectively. Hurricane Helene took most of our lives, and Milton is set to take the rest in a few days.

I am the youngest, by a bit, at 42. I work in construction operations, my husband is a postal worker, my aunt is still waiting (7 years now) on her SSDI, and my best friend is a city planner.

We all thought we’d live and die here, but we don’t want to simply die here. We know that no one wants a bunch of hurricane refugees, but we are considering relocating to your area.

I haven’t been to Fayetteville since I was a LITTLE kid. My people from there have all passed, so we’d be starting new with no one there.

If you would, could anyone offer the where to move with a pretty big family. We’re not adverse to rebuilding a property but none of us are spring chickens. We still need to work for another 20 years or so, and none of us know shit about your hometown.

Is there anything that’s close enough to work in town where folks like us might be welcome? We always intended on moving our elderly family members down here with us… but… it’s getting scary here.

Thank you to anyone with information, and I totally understand if we’re unwelcome. It’s just been a rough few years here and we’re not rich enough to pay for fancy shit to not drown.

Am not from area but I bought post malone tickets. I received paper tickets in the mail. Are they still a thing? Little iffy I'm getting scammed if I drive all the way up there and get turned around at the gate, I'm going to be sad. Bought off of stub hub

Support Creation of a Cafe off the Bike Trail Near Gulley!

There's a church for sale on Township Blvd, and the buyer plans to convert the beautiful building into a cafe/restaurant concept (details TBD). It's such a perfect location for a cafe in the Gulley area because it backs to the park without taking any park land, but it's also on an arterial street, so hopefully people are more open to a restaurant there than smack-dab in a neighborhood.

It's also going to be the only eating establishment along the east side of the Fayetteville trail loop so far! It's a huge win for bikeability and walkability in this city, and I hope you all support it!

I strongly, strongly support this project, and I urge you all to write to city council (or, even better, show up to the meeting in person on Tuesday, 10/15) to support this rezone! The project already passed planning commission, so anyone opposed will be coming out now that it has advanced to city council. I cannot think of a single reason to oppose this project, and I hope you agree that it's worth reaching out to support it! The property is being purchased and run by a local in Fayetteville (right in the neighborhood), not an outside developer. It's exciting!

Anyway, here is the request to reference when you reach out or show up in person to support the project. THANK YOU!!! You can email your comments in support to agendaitemcomment@fayetteville-ar.gov

Potentially need a new home for a kitty

This post super bums me out, but I think I have to find a new home for one of my cats. She's the sweetest thing- but my senior cat HATES her. It's been over 6 months and they still can't get along.

I found her as a stray when she hopped in my lap when I opened my car door when I parked on a street in rogers. She has a microchip but the old owners never answered.

She's about 3 years old and very playful, vocal, and cuddly. I really don't want to rehome her but it's stressing my senior out a lot which just isn't fair to either of them.

If you or someone you know is looking for a kitty to adopt, please DM Mr so we can chat about it.

Just moved here, and found this “thing” on my inner porch near the roof. I’m from Los Angeles and I’ve never seen something like this before. What do you think it is?

Restaurant recommendations

Hello everyone. I’ll be visiting from Louisiana for the LSU vs Ark game later this month with some old college friends and my son. We travel once every year and try to eat at local places that are local institutions.

We are looking for a 1)steak restaurant for Friday night and 2) campus area classic for Saturday.

Which NWA breweries are good employers?

Hey y'all - my partner and I are beer industry folks from Asheville, NC on the hunt for work in the Fayetteville area. We were here visiting for a final "do we want to live here?" convo when Helene hit our town.

So, our timeline to move to the Ozarks has moved up. We'd love to hear which breweries are worth applying to that are good employers. I have experience in marketing, communications, and design management, and he in production and logistics management. Any advice is appreciated!

A good fit?

Hey there, I’m a 22 year old college student looking at possibly transferring from a commuter school in LA to University of Arkansas. I’ve recently been concerned about the idea of missing out on “the college experience,” and thought spending my last couple years of college in an actual college town might be nice. Fayetteville looks like a nice place, and from what I’ve been reading is fairly liberal, but I’m wondering if it’s the right fit. I’m not a particularly outdoorsy person, not huge on parties or drinking, and am queer. I also have grown pretty accustomed to being right in the middle of a big city with a lot of options/event opportunities, and am worried I’d have trouble adjusting to the culture shock of being somewhere smaller. (Though, it’s also worth noting that I’m originally from a town of less than 500 people)

All that being said, I’m also looking to expand my horizons and try new things! I don’t know much about sports but your gymnastics/football games look like so much fun, your nature looks gorgeous (I miss living in a place with all four seasons), and I love a good small town farmers market. How’s the community- Do you have a, “run into people you know at the grocery store,” kind of culture there? (Also, how bad is the commute to Trader Joe’s?)

Any advice would be much appreciated.

30th birthday get together suggestions

I’m not from the area, but one of my good friends lives in the in NW Arkansas. I’d like to come to town to surprise her and do some fun things for her birthday. I’m thinking brunch + another activity.

She’s a mom of 2, so I’d like to do something that is a good time, but also not too strenuous. She spends all day chasing around little ones, no sense in adding to her exhaustion.

I’ve never been to Fayetteville, so I’m open to any and all suggestions.

Thanks!!!

Edit: The kids will NOT be joining us. I love them, but this is scheduled time for her to be herself without the title of mom.

Looking for First Road Bike

Hey all, I’ve lived in Fayetteville for about 10 years now, and I’m looking to get my first road or gravel bike. I recently did the square to square ride and I borrowed a friend’s Cannondale synapse carbon. It was a really fun ride and got me interested in cycling.

I am wanting to get my own bike now but don’t know the best place to start. Does anyone have any recommendations for a bike shop that could give me a quality fitting for a new bike? If it helps, my budget is about $2200 all in. Thanks!
