Option paralysis

I'm looking to buy a new 8-string, and the amount of options is making my head spin.

I don't really have an option to try different guitars out because of where I live.

My budget is around 2k € and some of the guitars I've been considering include Ormsby, Legator, Ibanez Prestige RG5328, perhaps even Solar cause of the evertune.

I'll be tuning down to drop E, so the scale length is pretty critical.

I guess I'm just looking for some feedback on the guitars I have listed and maybe even some new options I haven't considered. Thanks.

Would you rather...

Mesa Mark V Extreme into a reactive load and custom IR

or

Neural DSP IIC+ plugin into Baby Bomb and Silent Sister

Elaborate your reasoning!

Pickup swap for Ninja N8FS

Thinking of swapping out the stock Hive pickups on my Legator to a set of Seymour Duncan Black Winter 8 string pickups. Is there any reason this wouldn’t work? Dimensions, wiring, etc? Anyone with experience swapping them out, I’d love to know, specifically if you have swapped for a Black Winter set, even if it’s 6 or 7 string variants.

First extended range guitar purchase

Hey everyone. I recently played an LTD SN-1007HT and decided that I want to get a 27" scale 7 string guitar. This will be my first extended scale and first 7 string, so I'm looking around for my options. Ideally, I would like to spend around $1500 US, with $2000 being my top end. I'm not a fan of strat shapes or derivatives of them, so the LTD that I played is out. I've also never played an Ibanez that I like. I've been an Eclipse and Les Paul guy for most of my 20 years of playing. I have played Schecter 7 strings before and had no problems with them. Evertune isn't necessary to me, but I'll deal with it if the other options are right. I should also mention that I've used EMGs for most of my time and have no problem swapping pickups if necessary.

Tuning will either be Open C or Open B, so the lowest string will either be G or F#. I play mostly metal and use a Line 6 Helix for my sound. As I said in the title, this will all be new to me, so feel free load me up with information and tell me where my thinking is wrong about certain things. If you guys have any questions for me, I'll try to answer them quickly. Thanks in advance.

Budget 8-String guitar

Hi all! I'm looking into buying a budget 8-string so I can dip my toes into the world of extended range guitars. I mostly play djent type stuff. I would love to get a pretty cheap one, which I can upgrade down the line if I end up liking the 8-strings.
I'm stuck between a few options here but finding it very hard to decide because of the many reviews that say different things, most of which are outdated as well, and me not having any prior knowledge about buying an instrument like this.

Here's my options:
-Harley Benton R-458FFB LH Roasted Multiscale (https://www.thomann.de/nl/harley\_benton\_r\_458ffb\_roasted\_fanfret.htm)
-Harley Benton MultiScale-8 QBB (https://www.thomann.de/nl/harley\_benton\_multiscale\_8\_nt\_qbb\_dlx.htm)
-Jackson JS32-8 DKA SBK AH (https://www.thomann.de/nl/jackson\_js32\_8\_dinky\_dka\_sbk\_ah.htm)
-A used Schecter Omen-8 (there's an offer for 500 euro nearby)

What do you guys think? Thanks f or helping me out!

UPDATE:
Thanks for all the help guys! I ended up getting the Jackson js32-8 dinky, because it's quite affordable in the Netherlands and specs-wise it's really close to some models that are more expensive here such as the Ibanez RG8 or Schecter Omen-8.

The guitar is quite good for the price! I had to replace the strings and adjust the action (although it was pretty good already) as well as doing some minor intonation adjustments. The fretboard was dry as f*ck, but some lemon oil helped that and the frets themselves were really nicely finished (couldn't find any sharp edges or too high or low frets).
The pickups sound a bit muddy, which is to be expected with this price range and stock pickups. I've found that if you work on the tone and eq a bit you can get a really powerful and more clear tone out of them as well, which is great for the price.
The only real problem I've found is that there seems to be some ground noise when you up the gain, for which I'm probably going to bring it to a luthier at some point.

Somewhere down the line, if I end up really liking the 8-string I will get some locking tuners and put Lundgren m8's in it or just buy a more expensive model.

Conclusion: if you want to try out an 8-string on a budget like me and you're not afraid of doing some finishing work (or bringing it to a luthier), I can really recommend this one!

First Drop!

A bit different from the usual musical offerings here. The guitar recorded is in fact a seven string. Hope you enjoy it! Any feedback is welcome.

Question - Difference in timbre between bass and guitar strings?

Recently got my first 8 string and I'm very happy with it (post soon) but despite the 28" scale length on the F# and the .80 gauge it came with, it's still incredibly flubby, and when I do open notes it clangs against some of the frets and turns into a harmonic. Annoying.

Since I have some spare bass strings lying around that are a slight increase in gauge, I was wondering if I could just try and use those instead to alleviate the lack of tension.

I play a lot of meshuggah and aal so brightness is pretty important to me, and I was wondering if bass strings would be any warmer than guitar strings of the same gauge? Or are they packaged differently just because people wouldn't normally use this heavy a gauge on guitars.

Edit: Sorry guys, might be helpful to add that they're the D'addario NYXL 9-80 set, and I have about 3mm between the F# and the top of the 12th fret.

Cheers everyone!

Javier Reyes vs Abasi Fluences

I want to put some new pickups on the ibanez arzir28 i got my mitts on recently, because the emg808X pair on it are quite muddy and don’t have the sound i want. I intend, somewhat obviously, to chuck a set of sweet sweet fishy fluences on it, and i’m torn between the two sets—abasi and reyes. I loooove the neck pickup on the Reyes set. The jazzbox voice is just melting something in me and i am here for the flatwound cleans, but the bridge pickup isn’t as tight as i’d like. The abasi bridge slams in all 3 voices, but i’m not as big a fan of the neck pickup. Thinking about doing one and one, using some eq magic to tighten up the reyes bridge, or some quad cortex pedal magic to butter up the top end on the abasi neck pickup. Unsure of the path forward, but i know both seem suit my playing (tight chugs and occasional ‘90s solos) but don’t know about doing one-&-one with the sets.

Tldr: abasi bridge rocks, reyes neck is great, reyes bridge a bit loose, abasi neck a bit too punchy. Any advice from owners?

help with tune-o-matic string gauge

Hello... so, I have a small doubt. I have a 7-string guitar with a 25.5 scale with 11-58 strings, but I'm going to change it to 11-70. Do you think I will need to change anything related to the bridge for adjustment? the bridge is a tune-o-matic before you ask. Sorry for not so good English, I'm Brazilian.

His stuff is really sick and I can’t for the life of me find it.

Best 8 strings out there in the 1000-2000ish range?

Hello! Starting to save up for my first 8 string, wondering if people have recommendations?

My current fav guitars are my PRS Mark Holcomb 6 and 7 string guitars. Ive always kind of been a signature model fan but none of my favorite artists have an 8 string under $3000 bucks lol so looking to see if people have any good bangs for their buck at the roughly 1-2k price range

9 string guitar selection?

Hey guys, long story short I mentioned to my wife that I've been kicking around getting a 9 string... and she's looking to make it a reality for our 4 year anniversary, but she knows nothing about guitars and though it's a little awkward to help her pick out a gift for me, she really wants my help to guide her to the right one.

I was wondering what options exist reasonably priced for a 9 string. I've read a lot of people say it pretty much has to be a multiscale, and the cheapest 9 string multiscale I can find is an Agile for 799.99. Any thoughts or input on 9 string guitars is welcome, especially anyone who owns one. Thanks in advance.
