As the title says, I've been playing guitar for about 7 years now and I'm thinking about buying my first 8 string. After some research I've found some suitable candidates based on my preferences and budget:
Ibanez RGDMS8 CSM
Jackson X series soloist SLAT 8 MS
Schecter Omen Elite 8 MS
I'm open to other suggestions if you guys know any good gear, as long as it's an MS (preferably 27.5" and above).
I’m wondering if there might be any issues considering the Ibanez is a multi-scale.
I’m new to extended guitar stuff any info/ help is greatly appreciated thanks.
I am thinking on buying one just to play in this tuning. Do you tune it this way? Any tips?
I was wondering if anybody has any experience trying to use the THR with something tuned that low? On the djent setting it's great to like G#, but when I go below that I feel like I mostly hear mud/harmonics. Is this user error? Would trying to use an overdrive pedal with this help, or am I better saving my money until I can buy a decent computer for neural DSP?
Hey everybody, the title say it all but for some context: I got an Ibanez RG8EX and would like to swap the pick-ups. I'm thinking between the two options mentioned above, however, don't really have an option to try them out beforehand. My considerations are:
Does anybody have experience with both or at least one of them and can help me out? :) Thanks a lot!
was looking to get my first 8 strings and the budget is under 400. My current choices are the g4m 529 pro fanned fret, Harley Benton r-458, and Ibanez rg8. Can't really find anything great on the used market besides the Ibanez and 2 other brands, and I'd appreciate some recommendations
Hey guys, just wondering how these two stack up against each other in terms of tone brightness, longevity etc.
On my 6-string guitars, I usually play 11-49 D'Darrio XS coated, for my 8-string, I've been using a custom Stringjoy set of 11-68. I've asked Stringjoy about whether their coated orbiters are coming in custom sets to extended range/7 + 8 string guitars and they said they are on the way soon but that was way back in June earlier this year, they are still yet to make these available so I was just seeing if anyone here had an experience with both of these strings and see how they compare? I'm thinking of trying out the string source for my next custom set order.
Apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any info or other comparisons on Reddit/other forums.
Cheers
Like the title says, I need some tuning suggestions for a couple of baritone builds I’m planning. Long story short, I have a bunch of spare parts and cheap instruments to modify for the hell of it, so I’m open to any tuning including weird alternate ones. I usually play in 6 string drop C#2, drop A#2, seven string drop F#1 or 8 string drop D#1
Build specs:
34” 6-string with a non-recessed Floyd rose, dual rail J pickup in the bridge only, 24 frets
34” 7-string with a Hipshot Gibraltar, EMG 808x with an Ibanez 3 band Eq preamp, 24 frets
30” 6-string with a regular hipshot, one EMG 81 and one volume, 24 frets
I was actually kinda considering buying this same guitar b-stock on Reverb, with some cosmetic damage, for close to $1900 with tax and shipping! The color I chose, Lavender Sparkle, wasn't even in stock before the sale went live, so this is insane. This will be my second Ormsby and my first 8-string guitar so I am PUMPED!!
Hey guys
I’m looking for my first 8-string. I’ve been playing guitar for almost 10 years now and I’m looking for a very specific 8 string… but not sure what it is. My budget is $1500 and I don’t mind buying second hand or b-stock.
I really like the sound of the Abasi Laradas, but price-wise they’re a bit out of reach. I like how full-bodied and warm they can be will also retaining high end.
I’m looking for something like that with maybe a bit more twang (but still have humbuckers) and that has a pretty versatile sound. I like the playability of my strandberg, but not sure if the strand 8-string will sound like what I’m looking for.
Does anyone have any recommendations?
I have the issue when I play a hammer-on on my low string (74) while palm muting. I'm trying to play they intro riff from immolation of night by invent animate
I can hear the string on the other side of the fretted note resonating and it sounds terrible (similar to headstock noise but between the nut and the fretted note) . It happens on both guitars I have but a little more on my ormsby multiscale
I thinks that the difference has to do with my hand position. My hand is muting more of the string on the multiscale because of the slanted bridge and letting the left side of the string resonate.
Do you guys have this issues? I can't find any thread or information online.
I just picked up a used Ibanez 7 string with fishman fluence moderns in it, and cannot for the life of me get anything remotely okay to come out of it. They sound unplayably bad, and I can’t really figure out why, idk if anyone here has experience with them and can maybe share common problems, but I’m pretty shocked at how bad they sound right now
Hey, I have a Harley Benton R-457BK MultiScale and in my area its crazy difficult to get XL fret wraps - does anyone know if the gruvgear Large is alright for it? its not cheap so I wanna make sure it fits beforehand, thanks to anyone who can help :)
