Denmark to Kalmar Union

1 March 1571

Normally I don't play EU4 without cheats of some kind. I usually struggle as nations like Castile and the Ottomans. Yet recently I decided to come back and give it another go. This time as Denmark with the goal of integrating both Sweden and Norway.

It was difficult for me as a newbie as I had gone into debt a bunch of times and barely prevented the Swedes from declaring an independence war. I'm currently at peace with a huge deficit of -19.16 and 62 loans.

Now Canada is firmly under my control, the north is dominated by me, and I have Scandinavia all to myself. Only 3rd world power though with the Ottomans and Castile ahead of me. I'm pretty proud of this since I am still don't really understand the game or how other people are so good at it.

Can I WC?

I have never went for a WC before, I just revoked only Venice left and the Pope left about 10 years ago while allied to me and an Elector. I have reduced him to Roma. Killed Reformation very early. Ideas are Diplo Religious Quality and Admin. Spain is my ally and a Habsburg sits on her Throne. France is my pet lol. Just wondering if its too late at 1607?

Continuation of Trebizond's story

Trebizond AD 1777

Here's the update of Trebizond's story, as four decades have passed. Our mighty themata armies managed to secure some crucial victories over the combined forces of Spain, Austria and Tuscany, which allowed us to sign a long sought after white peace. After securing peace, we abandoned several of our eastern forts, as well as recalled our merchant envoys from Genoa. Basileus Alexios VI implemented reforms which curbed down the massive inflation and gave us temporary economic respite.

Nonetheless, peace was not meant to last long - soon we found ourselves in a counter-revolutionary war against Spain. Austria once again joined Spain in war against us. It was said that Archangel Michael himself was on the battlefield, leading us to the decisive victory and complete destruction of Spanish Armada. This time, we forced harsh terms on our enemies, including restoration of monarchic order in Spain, as well as liberation of Croatia, Sardinia and Corsica.

Our long-term ally, France, was not as lucky. In the midst of war, French king died childless, thus ending the Bourbon dynasty. Cunning Dutch Republic smelled blood, and immediately invaded. Our divine emperor, Alexios VI, made the decision to press his claim to the French throne, immediately ordering naval invasion of southern France. Since Frankish kingdom was already heavily depopulated from the numerous wars, Byzantine Themata cleaved through the countryside like knife through butter. We reached Paris before the Dutch, and Alexios VI was coronated in Notre Dame by catholic Pope as Emperor of France. Since we were depleted from the prolonged war, we quickly sent envoys to the Netherlands, offering them Champagne, Picardy and Lorraine in exchange for peace.

Basileus Alexios VI died soon after, leaving Empire to his son, Manuel IV, who ruled together with talented Romanian consort, Flavia. Manuel IV made the decision to reintegrate Papal States directly with the Empire, forcing Vatican's clergy conversion to Eastern Orthodoxy. Just like that, Pentarchy was restored. However, it was Basilissa Flavia, not Manuel IV, who led our armies to victory in the long and tedious war against Mughals (former Timurids), resulting in annexation of Basra and subjugation of Mecca and Medina. Manuel IV died after prolonged illness, leaving the Empire to his and Flavia's son, Alexios VII.

Today, as Alexios VII is coming of age, we boldly look into the future, dreaming of establishing new Exarchates in Spain and Northern Italy.

Trebizond Empire

My Trebizond ironman game at it's current state.

I started as Trebizond, and managed to regain Constantinople from the Palaiologos usurpers with the help of the Ottoman invasion. After that, I made alliance with the Austro-Hungarian monarchs, which paved the way of the Byzantine Komnenoi reconquest. Almost three centuries later and with the destruction of the Turkish menace, fall of the Egyptian Caliphate, betrayal on the hands of the Holy Roman Emperor and subsequent dissolution of the HRE, I stand tall as the resurgent Roman Empire. My subjects include the Papal States, Wallachia, Crimea and Exarchate of Africa. I'm allied to the Bourbon France and Solomonid Abyssinians.

However, things are not as great as they would seem. My economy is in shambles, as I lose 300 ducats per month. I'm at war with the coalition of the Spanish, Italian and Austrian Empires. I lost several important battles and my armies were forced out of my Italian possessions, while Exarchate of Africa was overrun by the enemy. I hope to force Austrians into the negotiation table and give my Frankish ally some breathing room, while also ensuring Ethiopian entry into the war in exchange for paying off all of their enormous debts.

No one knows what the future holds. Are we witnessing the final downfall of Rome? Or is basileus Alexios VI Komnenos wise enough to ensure survival of his resurgent Empire?

Suggestions on what to do next are most welcome.
