Honestly every couple months or a year, I watch the conversation Earl had with his mother Cheryl. A lot of their talk, the interview before and his album at the time Feet of Clay, is about the death throws of America's empire falling.
I have been reading the Peoples history of the United States by Zinn (I'd definitely recommend it) But they talk about the foundation of the country being based on cheap or free labor, racism, imperialism, genocide, oppression etc.
Cheryl, a huge academic in her own right, mentions how when Earl asks her is the USA is even sustainable as a culture/country, she says she felt it is not sustainable at all.
Who knows who will win the election, I voted Harris cause she is better than trump. But as the richest, most powerful country in the world, homelessness will still be rampant, college and healthcare will not be covered by the government like many poorer countries than us, we will still give money to Israel to bomb Gaza , regardless of who wins.
Side note, I feel Earl jumping on more of a fun/lighter vibe lately is related to this

Bro can someone get balance uploaded on spotify ASAP😭😭
I’m not sure if this already been talked about in this subreddit before but if it has already it’s fine but I just want to say that Earl got so many unreleased bangers that he needs to release soon so I want to know what songs y’all want to appear on his next project Of the top of my head some songs I want him to drop are Heaven Knows, Wake Forest, Easy Target, Albatross, and Tapped In
it feels very cozy yet unique. I like names like this that kinda sounds like an actual name but has a vibe to it
Next year is the 10th anniversary of both I Don’t Like Shit and Solace. I’m expecting something for IDLS but I’m really hoping for an official release of Solace
So many mfs keep saying they miss earls flows. Then go listen to his old shit lol 😅 I love all of his stuff but Earl sounds so good on these trappier beats. Dude is one of the most dynamic rappers ever, he can his whatever flow he wants. Been loving the last 5 years of his music in particular
Greatest intro of his whole discography can’t stress this enough. Hauntingly sets the tone and piggybacks off of the climax of the jam and losses that SRS encapsulate, showing in reflection that even amidst the bruises scars and losses in war, Earl remains victorious. The topics he touches on r just insane I feel like he’s accessibly esoteric. everytime I return to SICK! I’m reminded of how truly underrated this album is and am surprised to see ppl place this album anywhere else but top 3.
I’ll preface this by saying I’ve never been a huge fan of earl, I’ve heard his stuff a bit here n there but was kinda put off by his style, and never understood why he was so acclaimed. Id hear songs from this album on Spotify radio and thought they were cool but nothin extremely captivating. Thought Riot was cool but didn’t know why it had so many streams.
I’ve never played an album first-listen three times back to back and wanted to go a fourth. This album hits really hard when you’re at rock bottom. It feels like it’s breathing. His stream-of-consciousness raps with occasional punchlines and condensed truths perfectly fit the shapeshifting, Lynch-ian music. It’s the sound of a fractured mind that’s very mentally unwell and influenced by drugs. It’s definitely a different kind of musical masterpiece. Something I’d consider putting in a museum. Some of the most interesting and uncanny beats I’ve ever heard (Red Water, Loosie, Peanut). Hearing it front to back is absolutely the best way to hear it. It feels like someone blended Madvillainy and Everything at the End of Time with a bit of Donuts. The back half of tracks here pack a wallop, and Riot is such an amazing closer in context. I hope Earl is in a better place now, RIP to his father and uncle.
I just listened to some rap songs and I’ve looked at other peoples reviews and they almost always put azucar at one and a lot of people say it’s top 1 OAT, why?
Youtube only gives the bong spill freestyle and it's not that one.
I like imagery in hip hop lyrics and earl sweatshirt, any recommendations? or is this a stupid question?
In the 2nd part of Solace after Earl's verse and a few more piano loops. We hear this awfully loud and high pitched sound and I have trouble on finding out what it is.
I HATE NEW EARL alr not all of it but idk i can’t get into new earl as much as i can get into old earl, i don’t like shit, his self titled and Doris are where his discography stops for me, the new song he dropped w el cousteau was cool ig not really if I’m being honest earl literally sounds like he’s just fuckin around 😭 and i understand that’s prob the vibe he was going for but shit wasn’t it or shi wasn’t for me at least, idek why I’m even writing this kinda jus wanna see if anyone agrees w me or not, still love earl no matter wha 🤷♀️
