Two intact males living peacefully together?

We have a 1-year-old intact corgi male at home. His personality is absolutely brilliant - very laid back, a bit lazy, not hyperactive, doesn’t show any dominance (usually walks next to us or behind us when outside), very submissive towards other dogs and does everything to avoid conflict (immediately shows belly when unsure to both females and males, smaller or bigger), he loves playing with other dogs - as I call him - a social butterfly.

It is clearly visible that he is bored when he isn’t with other dogs. Although we spend with him 99 % of the time as I work almost always from home, playing with us doesn’t give him the same satisfaction as playing with other dogs. So, we decided to get him a brother from the same breeder but different parents.

The second puppy was already born and will start living with us by the end of this month. This is a second (and last) litter from this combination of parents and we know that we can expect more active and confident dog. We dabbled with an idea of getting him a sister but we gave in to our intuition and chose a male puppy.

We’ve heard many horrible stories of two intact males fighting (also females) so I’m looking for some tips, experiences (and reinforcemnt 😅) from dog trainers and other dog owners who have or had two intact males. Our current dog is also a show dog and we want the second one to be too, so the neutering is the last option (and I’ve also heard and read that it is not always a universal solution as it is often presented).

So, what can we do to lower the possibility of a fight to as low as possible?

Thank you all! 😊

High anxiety corgi

Wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks for a high anxiety corgi. Mine is about to turn 4 years old and he’s very high anxiety. We have a hard time taking him places because he starts barking or crying until he gets to go home. We’ll take him to places he’s been going to his whole life and he still can’t settle. We exposed him to a lot when he was a puppy and tried to bring him everywhere, but he’s always struggled being in an environment that’s not home. Wondering if anyone else has similar experiences they could share as well as some tips, or is this just something he’ll grow out of as he gets older?

Thanks corgi community!

Hug your babies

I took my 3 year old corgi to the vet today after him being picky with food (which was him not eating, personality vise very normal). I left him at the vet for emergency monitoring and more testing over night after they said multiple times he should not pass tonight. Surprise, they go to do blood work and he passes. Thinking lymphatic cancer. Hug your babies extra tight, 3 years should have had much longer to go.

Adoption advice

Hello fellow redditors, I'm looking for advice about adopting a pembroke corgi from the local animal shelter. I interacted with the dog and he seems like a friendly dog but apparently he has bite history with the pervious owners child. The dog bit the kids face is basically what the shelter handlers told me. Should I be worried, I have no kids in the house, and all my family have grown up with dogs all our lives. Should I proceed with adoption or not, because I have the paperwork done already and I have been going to the shelter everyday to interact with the dog and I have not seen any concerning behavior. Am I getting too overconfident inthis situation because I have have owned many bigger dog breeds

Also if do adopt a corgi, are 2 hour jogging sessions okay for the dog? What are good recommendations to handle the shedding?

Sorry for the bad grammar. Please help!

Names???

My husband and I are rescuing this sweet chunk of a corgi this weekend and we’re looking for a name for him. :) We’ve got two cats named Egg and Toast but his name doesn’t necessarily need to match. TIA

People with corgis with longevity… what are you feeding them? Preferably brands made in Canada but I am open to anything that will help my boy live a long and healthy life.

Just like the title states, in search of the best dog foods for my new corgi puppy that I can get for him to live a long, happy and healthy life.

Curious as to what foods people with long living corgis have been feeding theirs. Responses appreciated! Puppy pic for tax of my baby boy Colbi.

My corgi never rests/sleeps on her own

As the title says. I never got to enjoy that puppy stage where she would play her little heart out then flop asleep. I realized after a few months she was getting cranky because she was overtired (started with the witching hour crazies as a puppy, but has progressed to showing resource guarding behaviors when she’s tired - she’ll lay down near shoes or a spot then snap when we come near her).

I learned that I needed to enforce naps in the crate. That has worked decently, except now we have a 1.5 year old who’s forced to nap in the crate from 1-5pm and overnight. If we miss a crate nap and let her stay out, her resource guarding behaviors come out like clockwork. Once she’s in the crate, she falls asleep and doesn’t make a peep.

I work from home upstairs while she spends most of her time downstairs. She seems calm and content and lays down throughout the day, but I swear she doesn’t let herself rest.

•I provide mental and physical stimulation every day - no matter how much or little, she doesn’t choose to sleep. •She has plenty of comfortable beds and quiet spots in the house to retreat to. Her crate is always open but she doesn’t choose to go in. •I have just recently completed the relaxation protocol which has strengthened her down/stay and place command, but no discernible change in relaxation. •Calming treats/licks seem to do nothing.

This does not seem normal to me. I’m well aware corgis are high energy dogs, yet I see that so many other corgis snooze through the day. Aren’t dogs supposed to want to sleep most of the day? Is there anything I can do?
